I feel like this summarizes Bucky's life.
Someone was gonna do this sooner or later...or I'm just old
This entire chapter, only one thing was going on in my head.
Looks like they'll need to invent Fuel Injection™ next...
7310360 They already have. The craft uses diesel technology. Diesels from day one have always been fuel injected. Until the late 1990s/ early 2000s they were a mechanical injection system. After that electronic controls came out.
The problem they were facing here was not the engine running out of fuel due to the pumps failing to work but because the fuel pickup tube in the tank wasn't getting fuel and instead was sucking air. It's a classic problem a lot of extreme rock crawling guys face with stock fuel tanks when they get into extreme angle situations.
The fix to the problem is simple. Multiple pickup points in the fuel tank that engage and disengage depending on where the fuel is currently at due to gravity. Airplanes fixed this problem long ago.
Even after they fix the fuel delivery problem there will still be another one they have. Engine oil. Assuming this is a classic wet sump design then the oil sits right below the crankshaft with no real separator. The fix for that problem is a bit more involved but also simple. Dry sump lubrication. Instead of a single pump sucking oil from the sump and pushing it to the engine oil passages, a 2 or more stage pump is used and the oil sits in an external reservoir. One stage with a single suction pump or even more sucks all oil from the crank region and sends it to the external oil tank. A second stage pump pulls the oil and sends it to the oil passages. This way oil won't sit on the underside of the pistons when upside down causing massive power loss and possible parts breakage not to mention starving the sump suction for lube.
This is all assuming the diesel is based on the standard designs used and isn't one of those weird types that use a carburetor to premix the air and fuel instead of direct injection of fuel during compression stroke.
7310326 I double the bet:
later
7310326 And I'd only just dug out my series 2 DVD set to watch again too.
7310732 And here is J.A.F.O.
Watch from 3:50 for loop like Scootaloos.

Damn, I remember reading this when it only had 100 chapters. And everytime I thought I was close to catching up you post more chapters. Then after chapter 200 or so, I stopped reading for a while. Now, that I'm back to reading it I know that I have no chance on catching up.(its almost like me and the story are having...A CHASE.)
7338386 you're evil...

Very true, as you'll find in later chapters.
And that's all I can say without spoilers.
(Hint: unicorn cleverness)
