I must say, the idea of mounted griffins is an interesting concept.
The main shortcoming I can see would be that the Myrmidon-mounted griffins may have to have some sort of harness to hold them to the pegasus in the event of aerial maneuvers being necessary, but these could be an issue were the Myrmidon to be killed or incapacitated and fall out of the sky.
Lol join the equestrian mobile infantry service guarantees citizenship

Griffons can fly. If there's a complicated aerial maneuver, they can just separate, which will make them even harder to hit, and the massive lunar pegasi will draw fire better with their larger and armored bulk than the house-dog sized griffon.
___
Princess Harper's little royal court sounds adorable.
Stark contrast in the use of resources. The Night Stallion touts how important and valuable they are, but treats his like shit...
Tunnel vision will kill him.
6099517 I can´t give you enough upvotes !!!!
6099528 "Oh, look, a big juicy target...let´s fire...wait...TWO SMALLER TARGETS !? Wich one I get first, wich on...oh, never mind, I´m dead..."
........ Wait. I though the bat ponies could teleport through shadows. Wouldn't that allow them to easily cloase the distance between a unicorn andthemselves and just kill it?
6099788
Yes.
And no.
Remember the fight with the Element of Obedience and Bucky could not use his shadow magic?
So, what happens when shadow magic is warded against or the area is brightly lit?
What then?
6099421
The Myrmidon carry heavy armour already, just make dorsal and ventral pods for the little guys to scamper between/hunker down in between shots.
6099491
Lol more like Equestrian mounted infantry
6099793 ....... Energy wasted attempting to sustain a light bright enough to remove all shadows?
Give me explosive shells, Kudzuhaiku. Poison Joke ammo, SCARY. Why? It is not so easily cured.
6099827
So one keeps the lights on while the others kill.
6099902 shrugs. It would require something akin to a flash flare, something so bright that it is blinding, and makes everything look white. because a large number of unicorns would create a very, very large shadow. right underneath them........
I am actually referencing an anime i once saw, where it had a shadow manipulating villain. They temporarily coutneracted him by using a flare that eliminated shadow.....
though he was ultimately rather different. Since his power was shadow, they had to trap him in total darkness. Shadow does not exist without light. Least that was the logic used.
6099938
That doesn't apply here. Shadow diving needs dark. The more the better.
Don't apply other rules here, it creates conflict.
so we have a tank = unicorn + griffon
and a bomber = Myrmidon + griffon
This going to be good
high powered explosive no... you load them with something much worse magical ordnance
Rape bombs for everyone
and just for the sake of making all unicorns un effective, release the shit bomb, may it clean their bowls
THIS WILL BE A DIRTY WAR
6099966 i wasn't. was saying that the light necessary for that would be very, very disruptive for them. Though for the enemy, it would only be disruptive if they try to close in. a flash flare type light would expose them to attack.
...... I honestly cannot see this plan of the mirror walkers actually working. Combine power with either a lack of training or mental instability would create a handicap. But all three together is a disaster that seems inevitable. All it would take is the right amount of panic in the right places, and it would collapse in on itself.
"Guns are the worst thing in the world, and no one should ever use them! We are hereby outlawing guns for every single group in existence on our world. None shall use firearms, it is Wrong."
"Sir, our enemy from another world is using guns!"
"Bring out our secret caché of guns that we've been preparing for this very case!"
"But I thought we outlawed them because they were Wrong?"
"True, but I and the other rulers of our nation that outlawed the guns knew that some day we might need to use these guns to turn the tide of a conflict we otherwise could not win."
"Isn't that the reason other people want firearms? Why are we allowed to use them when we are desperate, but deny others the same ability? Isn't us using them like this sorta hypocritical?"
"Nonsense! We outlawed the guns, therefore we are allowed to use them whenever we feel like it. Our ability to outlaw guns means that we also have the only right to judge when it is appropriate to use them."

If you were paying attention, you would know that Bucky was tasked to do this by Scorch and others, provided he could make ammunition that would keep innocents safe. Guns used for oppression were the issue.
He has made a smarter weapon...
6100134
Freezing shells, poison joke shells, and the like are still totally capable of being used as tools of control. Just because they don't kill does not mean they cannot be used to control, to spread misery and the like.
And there may be some kind of clever way that means some are not able to be fired against people who aren't hostile, but by that manner you can use physical coercion on them... then when they fight back use the firearms. There are a lot of creative ways to use these weapons.
Really, though, I meant that mostly in a lighthearted manner.
6100219
No worries. I am bothered that somebody downvoted you though. Can't we agree to disagree?
Would you like to know more?
6100223
I never agreed to that.
6100232 Ever since Starship Troopers I have detested that phrase with a burning passion. I kind of hate that it is being used here, but I can also understand why.
6099517
Upvote granted. Starship Troopers (the book) was a major inspiration for the Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum.

Total War, Radi ol' bean. You use everything, or you die. No sense bringing up moral ambiguity until the fight's won, that's when you decide what's right or wrong. It'd be more wrong to NOT have been prepping forbidden weapons and artifacts for a war you knew was coming, so they're available when it happens. That would be failing your people, your nation, your whole world, just because you were too busy thinking about right and wrong while your stallions are slaughtered and mares and foals are raped to death.
The reason they're outlawed normally is clear. They're too dangerous to be widespread and to see common usage or distribution, that was proven (whole point is that an arms race would severely fuck up the whole Harmony thing that everyone's enjoying trying to be part of and make into a solid, lasting thing). But when everything is on the line, that's when you're supposed to stop playing nice. I'd actually feel revulsion towards someone who let their morals about... killing or something, get in the way of saving their family. I think most anyone can agree with that.
I imagine that we'll be seeing some very nasty things come out of some dank vault Celestia and Luna buried underground. Thousands of years of keeping dangerous artifacts out of the hooves of their people, gotta be quite a selection, should be something they can use without it backfiring too hard with side effects and whatnot.
6100522
Well... the tongue-in-cheek lightheartedness is because that's exactly true. They can't exactly hold back at this point. Not against an enemy that is near their power.
And heck, even outlawing them is for safety. (Although, don't forget, this was a controversy, and guns were just weapons anyone could use to Bucky until
the Fates had someone shoot himan unrelated party tried to kill Bucky for reasons unknown).But... it's still also true that preventing anyone from owning weapons that could do harm to you means that no other group can ever contest you. It's a form of control in itself. I'm sure you know the rhetoric from all the NRA style political groups: The first thing an oppressive government does is take away the citizens ability to fight back.
It's a fine line, that kind of weapons ban.
*A Tear opens in time and you look through*
On a battlefield a wounded and dying Belisama lies in Bucky's hoofs.
Thanatos comes to collect her and he screams back.
"THEY PROMISED! THEY PROMISED MY WIVES WOULD NOT DIE BEFORE ME!"
"Nay, Little Brother, the Three promised they would not die in child birth. Belisama has given you a fine cub, and earned her place in Odin's afterli. . ."
"LIES. DECEIVERS! IF THEY WILL NOT HONOR THEIR BARGAINS THAN NEITHER SHALL I. WAR COMES. NOW!"
*The Tear snaps shut*
Good thing comments aren't gospel, eh?

I do believe that Bucky would resort to necromancy at this point.
Gasps....... Catching up on this story is like climbing mount everrest. Quite an experience but draining.
This has to be one of the bests stories in the fandom, though much like Bucky himself, in its own way. For it to remain so consistent and be written in such a short time, it is quite a feat. You put a lot of passion and yourself into it.... Both in good ways and tragic ways too. Heard of ya situation. Keep goin long as you can!
The tale has its flaws of course, but overall it is well told. How you handle character, deduce how they will behave, factors of the world, and so on, really work. Though there are a handful of flaws, mostly minor but some not so much. Though unlike a lot of stories i have read here, the flaws are at least medium rather than large.
Largely i have a hard time understanding how you handle the pony species overall. Dunno, something always seems off somewhere. Such as the pegasi have enhanced strength, which is odd considering their abilities are of flight and weather manipulation, factors where strength seems unnecessary. Earth ponies have a strange, strange purpose, as while they are essential it does not seem a species THAT strong an durable would be easy to subjugate.
Second one is that the use of the mane six can be a bit iffy, and even confusing. Secondary though they are to the story, some situations just felt off.
Third is that the mirror walkers have become a bit underwhelming. Clearly still a pressing threat, but the night stallion just seemed rather short sighted when he finally appeared, and generally i did not imagine them to just be a bunch of brute force barbarians. That mindset seems counter productive in a post apocalyptic world.
The last one is how you use Harmony, and it is the only one i would classify as significant in this list. Mainly in terms of depiction. You basically turned was is depicted in show as this legendary, mysterious, friendship fueled force that has seemingly limitless potential and attributes, into just mundane mana... Having to switch my mind between these viewpoints is like listening octavia play an elegant dirge, to snips and snails playing cazoos. Its a pretty big shift.
Still, without question this is a pretty epic story. Can't wait for more.
6100821
There is harmony magic... which is harmonious... and there is Harmony magic... which comes from the Elements of Harmony.
I chose harmony magic because light magic felt... off.

Knowing Bucky he'd figure out a way to make Necromancy work for him without the negative cost of freeing demons and pissing off Aunt Celery. He's always surprised me before with his
cheatingunicorn cleverness.6100373
you need to remember that in the book anyone could join the military and do a job. if they did not have a job for that person they would invent one. even. if I remember the quote correctly, the job was "counting the fur on a caterpillar by touch". the point being that you were willing to put your own life on hold for the rest of humanity. It was not just the drop commandos who could vote, it included support personnel as well.
You've surpassed Diaries of a Madman in word count and are now the top longest story on FimFiction.
Have a Derpy.
6101004
You are correct any type of service resulted in citizenship military service was seen as the ultimate form of service though. But any job as long as it was for humanity would be able to get you citizenship
6100503 the book what little I've read was infinitely better than the movie.
Yeah you would do that.
Still mounted combat in equestria? You'd think someone would have thought of that after EQG.
Shit just got real dark though, the foals still know how to add levity to the situation, but man they're going all out with this one I mean, to quote team fourstars.
Aw fuck that's an anti-tank rifle.
Aw fuck!!! That's an anti-tank rifle!!!!
6101369
Fun fact: A 10mm round packs more punch than a .45 acp.
Another fun fact: 10mm rounds come in a magnum load.
These have been fun facts...
Equestrian citizenship eh?

6101369 the term is anti-materiel rifle ya dingus

As a member of the NRA, I'm well-acquainted with that line of thought. But we know the differences between their world and ours, so hopefully it'll stick. I don't know many gun-enthusiasts who DON'T wish guns weren't necessary - and I agree with them. That we could be free from corruption and fearing our neighbors and strangers and such. Something that doesn't seem so impossible in Equestria, you know?
Man, watch/read Starship Troopers recently or something?
6101695
6101681
quite interesting
No. No starship troopers refferences.
Conscription, you bastard
6101386. True they are a faster round being smaller and not as much lead to push thats why i like 9mm over 45s
almost there...
