Updating before I go to bed is fine, but before I go to work? Are you trying to do this?
5126618
How do I know when you go to work?
5126619 Because this isn't the first time you've updated right as I was about to head out the door. Unless...
5126630
Not quite like that. More along the lines of a well educated populace that knows powerful offensive magic and has ironclad loyalties to their friends is a stable society.
Another fine chapter though I'm starting to think it's updating to much if ideas start infiltrating my dreams. Last night involved a really long rollercoaster that had to be saved by magically creating tracks for it as well as a door proclaiming a training centre run by Surprise. I woke up not long after that.
5126643
Yes, but it is more than that for Luna.
How do you keep hardened killers under perfect control?
5126621 For me, Kudz's updates all come at perfect time during the day. I get one kudz uploaded during the night, one there when I get home from school and one when I'm about to go to bed. However the updates have slowed down a bit recently. This made me sad
5126619 Oh you know...i don't know how, but you do. I gave sleeping already, waiting for your late night chapters.
NEST OF........Ah, forget it. They're all dead now. My arachnophobic hatred is sated.
You mention a typo hunter... and I imagine a vampire hunter, but with a bottle of white-out instead of holy water, a massive brick eraser in place of a holy book, and freshly sharpened red pencil instead of a stake...
If these ever get published, it could lead to a pony goth movement. (I'd normally have first gone to hippy for non-conformist movements, but most ponies are closer to nature than most humans).
Or it could lead to the Individual Eleven. whatever.
5126648
You don't. Firstly, perfection is impossible. All you can do is try to give them as many good reason to not wreak havoc as you can and hope for the best. i find this tends to work best in the form of giving them something else to focus on besides the killing. Other loved ones tend to help, as do constructive or constructively destructive hobbies that allow for cathartic release.
And now a philosophical spattering for discussion:
To paraphrase Gregory House, "If an alcoholic never takes another drink in his life it's because he didn't live long enough."
Discuss.

Someone needs to draw this.
Was this suppose to be "us"?

Sentinel's a bit naive here with his thoughts. He comes from the Isles, and we all know how that works on his perspective.
The whole concept of that herd mentality is one of survival and integrity. If someone exposes themselves to be consistently problematic, you drum them out of the herd so they won't continue to cause problems. Sure, they might be able to change - or they might be faking change, or they might change back after changing for the better, or they might not change at all. It's just too much to risk when they need stability.
It's not like they're kicking ponies out for getting into drunken brawls. That sort of thing is understandable and permissible. But the kind of things Diamond Tiara was doing to her fellow children, and Iron Sky, made them extremely caustic and damaging to those around them. It's only natural they be removed.
Afterwards, if they can make it on their own, they can wait for an opportunity to PROVE how much they've changed and that they deserve a chance to show the herd they are safe for reintegration.
Which is why I have problems with Bucky's tribe being so protective of Diamond Tiara. She did horrible, monstrous things. Just because she didn't physically hurt them (most of the time apparently) doesn't mean squat. We can look at Bucky and see that psychological damage is far worse than physical damage, anyway. The other foals have a -right- to be upset with her for as long as they want, because THEY are her victims. Blaming them for not just... accepting her after they suffered at her hooves is absolutely dumb.
They should be coaching her. Showing her how to toughen up, how to ease the worries and well-deserved hatred of her peers. How to fit back in with the herd. Not defending her. That'll just cause more bitterness and hatred.
"Hey, that guy who used to kick my ass every day and never got in trouble for it now has bodyguards! This is bullshit! Fuck that guy!"
Along those lines. I'm rarely one for a redemption of Diamond Tiara, but I think it could work if she does it on her own without Sentinel trying to protect her. If he can just get past that sort of naive thinking.
5126828
They're not really defending her though. Just being her friend and giving her a chance to prove herself.
She's a foal. A rotten foal, perhaps. But a foal. Bucky doesn't make distinctions.
5126832 ......this, and this all the way. diamond tiara is spoiled, privledged, but a foal is a foal. and more the situations are going towards something that is fairly believable that the rotten little filly can change.
5126832
That's an absolute without conditionals that isn't bound by logic. One of Bucky's flaws, then. I wonder if that might come back to bite him, some evil filly in the future who turns out to be an actual threat or something. Don't think he could... pull the trigger, so to speak.
As for the defense, it's more you've communicated that when the subject of DT and the other foals is brought up, that the tribe (insofar as Bucky, Dinky, Pina, and Sentinel - but the others probably agree with them?) doesn't approve of the other foals' not accepting her. They're not empathizing with the victims, they only seem concerned (from their own perspectives) that she's sad and not being accepted.
Which I interpret as taking sides rather than... assisting her in overcoming her trial of redemption by giving her the advice she needs to hear.
This is something I keep an eye out for. Too many redemption stories or arcs or subplots tend to just be... skewed? I suppose. Or too simple.
Real redemption is hard. It's actually easier to 'earn' redemption when you don't actually deserve it, because being manipulative will get you just about anything you haven't actually earned. It should be rough on the person trying to earn it, it should be a constant uphill battle simply because they feel it's important for themselves, and the people they've wronged that they be seen for the better person they've become - and the even better person they want to grow into being.
I will probably froth if things come down to it and Sentinel actually does defend her without her getting on his case about it and showing everyone she doesn't need protection to earn tolerance on her road to forgiveness. Despite not actually liking the character, hating bullies, and having been one myself, I am pulling for DT. I'm just hoping the subplot is sufficiently... powerful. That we, the audience, can FEEL she's earned it rather than it just sort of happening and being accepted because we can personally see she's changed. She scarred up the whole next generation of Ponyville, and having the civil war land on their heads would only have made everything worse. I feel her redemption is something you are capable of making a strong point of.
5126911
Her subplot is going to take years to resolve.
We are only just seeing the beginnings of now, the groundwork. Her good qualities, her potential, what she has to offer so to speak.
5126911
Don't forget. Dinky and Pina were both her victims. Dinky chose a better way and she has the sort of unrealistic idea that she can hold other ponies to her own standards. She's young and immature, so this seems logical to her.
5126918
Good, very good. It's rare to see redemption done right on Fimfic. People think if a bad person is sorry, that everything should be okay. Or that the people who don't accept the apology to be some sort of universal truth are now the bad ones. Or it's just sort of... "I made you hate me now I saved you we're best friends forever." and completely ignoring what justifiable hatred exists for, nevermind psychological and emotional damage.
It's always too easy. Or those who don't actually deserve forgiveness even after turning over a new leaf still get it. They let their audience-omniscient view of the character poison and control their thinking. "I'm seeing things from (villain)'s point of view, and I can tell they've gotten better. Anyone in the story who disagrees is obviously wrong and unnaturally mean." Eurgh.
5126925
She hasn't realized yet that the main reason she feels this way is that she felt horrible for almost killing DT? Not that it's natural to NOT forgive her? Also, I forget but wasn't Dinky not a normal target for DT? Or was she also one of the regulars?
5126952
Dinky and Pina, being smaller and younger, were constantly under attack from DT and SS. Until one day all of the rage boiled over.
Bees.
Dinky isn't fully self realised. She's young and even though she has a grasp on a number of things, there are some things she is woefully unaware of. Same with Pina. Both can act remarkably adult, but as we've seen in the story, certain situations completely undo them. They only have a thin veneer of maturity that is easily rubbed off. Maturity due to circumstances is NOT the same as maturity due to growth, and this was a lesson I had hammered into my head repeatedly during psychology class. Remove the conditioning of the circumstance and the situation and the maturity will vanish, leaving behind a child that is even more childlike than normal, and completely unable to deal with situations outside of their scope and scale. This can be seen in Dinky and Pina on multiple occasions, and even in Sentinel now and then, when he goes crying off to one of his parents and loses his seemingly well collected shit.
.....a foal beat to death likely dozens of giant spiders, presuming the gryphon killed the majority that is.......... only two beings killed hundreds of spiders and one of them is a foal..........
why were these creatures dangerous again?
Sadly, Sentinel, ponies will always find something to pick at; you could be the straightest arrow and someone will still say you take up a little too much space in the quiver.
5126977
Ripple isn't exactly a foal. Nor is she an adult.
Think teenager... a body type somewhere in between.
fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/295/2/c/commission__windy_flora_age_chart_by_masamunya-d5ikljg.png
See, she and Loch are in that middle area between foal and adult.
*cough*bullshit*cough*
5126993
Come on, he just had his first wet dream and there really is a lot he doesn't know or understand just yet. Plus, this is not he isles where he grew up.
5126990 even still it does not chagen that only two creautes managed to slaughter all those spiders. it leaves me questioning how dangerous they actually are if it took only two of them, badasses as they may be. maybe if there were ten or at least five i would not be questioning their threat as much, five is a balanced kinda grouping. yet it took only two.
......also do you have a reason why earth ponies are not more often seen in battle..... sorry but the shetland island battles are vague in my memory and i can't even remember when they began anymore.
5127009
Well, he IS very mature for his age, emotionally speaking. Physical maturity and intelligence/wisdom are different from emotional maturity, which I was getting at.
5127067
Sour Mash played a huge role in the final battle aboard The Scorned Mare.
Some of the spiders were bigger, some of them were smaller, some of them were only soccer ball sized.
Ripple and Lugus both have combat experience fighting mobs.
Well I suppose that takes care of my last comment about a doctor...
I anticipate the griffon arc like a kid on Christmas morning!
5127087 simply thinking something with the force to uproot tree and shatter stone would see a whole lot more battle. and i am pretty sure they still have those features in your story.
then again thoughts are thoughts.
5127148
Berry Punch started the war.
Earth pony.
5127409
That was the parallel I was hoping to draw upon. A foal learns from their parents.
Silly herd psychology confounds me.
Lots of good stuff this chapter. I'm not really disappointed we missed the spider fight.
