Neat little story. They got it good, foals these days.
So... are 11-12 year old ponies the equivalent of... the mid-teen humans who have accomplished amazing things? Are we talking like... 15? 18? 13?
6282965
I intend to leave that for the reader to decide.
Fun fact!
During the dark ages of Europe, mid 20s was advanced old age. Living into your 30s was uncommon.
Most people were married by the age of 10.
Another fun fact!
The average age of people leaving St Louis to go to California or Oregon for the westward expansion was 12 to 14. Most the pioneers heading west to start a family were 12 to 14 years old... and married. That's right people, the west was settled by kids. Married kids. Married kids who had guns and might have had a child already. Something fun to think about.

That depends. Is there an injury? Torn flesh? Ripped tissue?
If no, then nothing. The spell needs injuries to work.
6283040
Well, little rips and tears happen. Sometimes they happen becomes the opening won't stretch quite wide enough. I was actually just wondering if a healing spell could be used to siphon away the pain but...
Huh, actually healing magic wouldn't be ideal for that would it? Dark magic deals with pain. Could the caster use dark magic to take someone elses pain for themselves so the one who SHOULD be experiencing it, doesn't?
6282986
I'm not sure where you're getting the numbers from, but I think you're falling into the trap of the historical high infant mortality rate skewing life expectancy. While death in birth or childhood was very common in that time period, people who survived to adulthood had much longer average lifespans than the total average suggests.
6283102
Dark magic doesn't work that way in the Chase. It isn't selfless like that.
That said, if a mare gave birth the hard way, and used dark magic later, she could make her target feel the pain of birth. Even a stallion.
6283117
Some.
In other parts of the world, people were living to the century mark.
In the malaise stricken cities of dark ages Europe, death came early.
6283120
I'm not sure you could call it selfless, exactly. It would be a very self destructive method of power acquisition. Sharing pain could be done simply by tapping into their mind, but claiming it for yourself gives you a weapon to use, and more pain to fuel the magic with.
That actually seems like something a demon would do, doesn't it? Inflict unspeakable torture and then gather all that up to be unleashed on a target all at once.
... Plus. I'm fairly certain that would be one hell of a means of incapacitation wouldn't it? In the middle of a fight you make someone experience give birth. Good gravy... Actually that's too cruel. Suggestion/idea withdrawn.

Necromancy can take pain away.
I don't know how far you are along, but Bucky uses a very traumatic experience of his to give somebody a feeling of pain quite unlike any other.
6283185
Yeah. Imagine your average unicorn pony.
Now imagine a fine mist with the sound of splatters everywhere.
THAT kind of pain.
6283320
Maybe. I dunno. Keep reading. I've made a number of people cry that said they've never cried from a fic before.
6283442
No, specifically, ten years on a hook being eviscerated each day kind of pain.
6283185
Yeah I'm familiar with Bucky's second trial.
And yes, I figured Necromancy would have a painkiller spell, I'm wondering what field of magic would involve sucking out someone's pain and inflicting it upon someone else. Like, dark magic feeds on pain and hatred, which suggests that they're distinct forms of energy or fuel. As such, one should theoretically be able to channel it from one source, and into another. Is that still necromancy?
6283561
I'm not fully clear what your going for.
Dark magic causes pain to others and the caster. It doesn't suck pain out. I have nothing set up to make it work that way.
Dark magic doesn't allow for empathy. It allows for domination, force, etc. It doesn't rely on others. It is selfish, self serving, it is me me me all of the time.
Now, as far as necromancy goes, it depends on the demon. He or she might whisper some interesting words or thoughts into a unicorn's head, giving them a spell. Said spell is limited only to the demon's magic, power, and imagination. All kinds of things can go wrong though. If your willpower is insufficient, you might find yourself as a snack or as the victim of said spell. Nothing is guaranteed.
You should never trust the Fates.
You shouldn't trust most fae.
And most (thought not all) demons are horrible, lawyerly dicks.
6283591
...Why have you yet to add a Lawyer from Tartarus into this fic yet? it would be hilarious.
6283648
I am pondering the introduction of Scorch's nephew. A demon. I mean, an actual demon, not just a resident of Tartarus. Made by Scorch and a nice, friendly, but somewhat sexy demoness. The kid is interested in the secretarial sciences and wants to attend school.
6283662 That would be glorious. Especially if whenever he is called for by someone he is employed by he does things dramatically by appeared from a pillar of hellfire.
6283713
Hellfire would raise questions about thermal efficiency. It would cause him to break into hives because of his OCD.
6283718
...Oh. He's one of those types lol.
6283754
Secretarial science. The science of organisation!
6283662 OH YES, PLEASE, JUST YES !!!!! Make her a dominatrix-like character...
6283786
Nephew, not niece.
6283905
Water boils. That is what it does. You are mostly made of water.
6283790 Just a matter of gender, nothing too difficult for a writer...
6284334
I wonder what that makes me...
6284493
Livestock branding goes down past the skin and into the muscle tissue, so it is harder to cut out the patch of flesh and steal livestock.
I went by that standard.
6283523
Oh I remember, but didn't the second part happen because of the pain overload?
Just so you know, Sentinel also takes his oats very seriously.
6284506 Aaaaand, as we will know later dark magic feeds uppon pain...thus, Bucky fells more pain then the average pony...so dark magic can feed upon such pain and grown even stronger...
6286643
Correct.
I'm eighteen and I still don't know what love or responsibility is... but, I don't look on in envy at others who do. I merely take it solemnly that I am the product of my decisions. I am pathetic because somewhere early on I decided to become pathetic. I could change, but I won't because I am weak minded. I will contribute as much as I can to this world and then I will die and be forgotten like many before me. And I'm okay with that. :)
6289915 eh, most people get forgotten in about 80 years after death, average. y'know, 7 billion people and all...
I like it.
Feels are heavy. I'm sobbing quietly to myself. I'm reading this a perfect time. I recently learned of someone's passing. Kudzu knows how to write feels well. Thanks for this.
GOD DAMMIT!!! THIS STORY WONT LET ME FUCKING CRY!!!! i was watering, i was this close, but noOoOoOoOo I can't FUCKING cry for it!!! DAMMIT!!!
Look, I really want to cry for this story, I really do, but you have to do just a little better than that. I have only shed a few tears for this story, no sobbing, no hard breathes, no contemplation. Come on Kudz, i know you can syphon more than this.
