interesting wedding.....

It was, in fact, a wedding. I was wondering how many people would get that. You've made me happy.
I know there's this whole "aww look, it's okay they really do respect him and love him" but I could really do without the ritualized humiliation.
6296832
There is a reason for it though.
Have to keep the big brutes submissive and docile. They're conditioned from a young age to be submissive, gentle, and harmless.
Think about Sentinel when he loses his temper and then try to imagine something like North Star losing his marbles for a few minutes. This culture of control and submission is what keeps everyone safe, secure, and happy.
Well, it doesn't always go so smooth between mother- and daughter-in-law.
Tradition... Tradition (wonder who will get it)
Luna is best mistress

We need a fiddler.
Gosh, the cheese in this episode.
6296844
Just because it is effective, necessary, and works, does not mean it is the best way. Now obviously this is the wrong time to try social experiments to find another way without somewhat breaking the big brutes, but when things eventually settle down I do hope research is put into a kinder way of conditioning.

Uhm, isn't a harsh and repressive culture exactly what caused unicorns half a million issues earlier in this story? And we already know what unicorns do when they go crazy.
I mean, I know they've got immortal alicorns around to remind them that not all of the shame and repression is as serious as it seems...unless you're really going for "We can afford for the Myrmidons to have those amoral and heartless attitudes, because their only purpose in life is war, and they're never meant to reintegrate into normal society ever" and we're really, really pushing for these ponies being weapons, and they will only ever be weapons.
6297376
But they are weapons.
And they live to serve. Luna keeps them from the madness that is at the core of their being.
In the Chase Verse group, there is a good thread about lunar pegasi. Go and give it a read. I recommend it. It has a lot of insight.

Could i have a link to the thread? I'm lazy and searching is for ponies who like to hunt radishes.

They literally are weapons. If you could turn the mother of all killing instruments into a living being and make murder the very core of its existence, would you then decide to try and treat it with compassion (knowing that it sees compassion as weakness, making you prey), or try to tame it (knowing that simple beasts find strength makes worthiness)?
That's all this was. Taming. People seem to forget the Lunar Pegasi were Discord's perfect pony-killing-machines in pony form. Most aren't... technically ponies, not until they're shaped into people. I imagine that most can't or won't take that sort of shift in their personality - goes against the instinct of holding strength and domination to be civil and make compromise.
While I could do without the constant domination of males, all Lunar Pegasi have to be controlled in some form or another. Sentinel's safety-shackles are his family, his position, his sense of duty and love. Others can't have that, can't understand it before giving in to their natures. If you're the kind of person who'd invite a serial killer over for a sleepover and expect to wake up in the morning, by all means keep your opinion. Otherwise, understand that this is a kindness for them. This is mercy. It gives them purpose, serenity, self-control, usefulness, family, love, restraint.
6297890
Yeah. Sentinel's ability to police himself makes it a little harder to remember that these people are, even centuries later, still living beings turned into weapons, still predators who's list of potential targets includes talking things, and are basically a form of war-crazed supersoldier.
6298355
Think of Sentinel's response to smelling Boadicea's sex pheromones.
That was almost a disaster for Boadicea.
6298355
6298396
Exactly. You can't just tunnel-vision on Sentinel and go 'oh he's a prime example of his species'. He's an exception. He didn't have a chance to get set in the ways of lunar pegasi or to give himself over to his instincts and go feral before he found the chains that molded him into the good person he is now.
The #1 Son is never common.
If anything, what Luna does is like the concept behind boot camp in reverse. The idea behind boot camp is to break down the person you were and those restraints you picked up through life, and make you a dedicated fighting machine. Here, Luna takes dedicated fighting machines and instills those same humane restraints in them.
6298458
Luna turns murderers into trustworthy citizens.
You could, in fact, leave a helpless foal around a big giant Myrmidon and do so with a clear conscience.
6296823
people didn't understand that? by the end of the chapter I thought it was obvious.
A spoon that leads to spooning.
With the rise of the Alicorn of Love it makes me glad there are so few Earth Ponies on the Warfront.
6297383
So this is what your getting at. Intended to devastate their race and instead becoming their saviors.

I don't even know what that is.

Halo SPARTAN-IIs. They were created to put down human insurrection fro the time they were six. The started going on missions from the time they were 14. They fought an intergalactic war against aliens who out gunned them in every way. If not for the SPARTANs humanity would have been completely irradiated. Created to destroy their own kind but then save it.

Before he left Canterlot when Bucky came home.
Myrmidons: the Spartans of the Chaseverse.
6302029
I wonder then, is there a "John Forge" pony in the Chase-verse?
I don't mean a ponified John Forge from Halo Wars, I'm referring to the fact that he got in a fight with a Spartan, which led to extensive damage to the ship, including a fractured bulkhead, it got to the point that the commanding officer ordered them to cease and desist and for the duration of their time on the ship, they had to share a table during meals.
To put that in perspective, John Forge is a regular human with absolutely no genetic enhancements whatsoever, and he fought a 7-foot-tall, super-strong, super-tough, born-and-raised warrior and HE HELD HIS OWN.
Not only that, he actually fought and KILLED an Arbiter, a creature that even Spartans consider a credible and substantial threat.
So basically, I wonder if there's a regular pony out there who can actually fight a Myrmidon and not die.

............
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....Well, that was a bit harsh...kinda......
The spoon does not actually change his size.
It simply gives him a very, very tiny penis.
HOO RAH!!! Now that's a wedding!
YOU SUCK, AND YOUR PUNISHMENT IS... MARRIAGE!
Great chapter.
The point of laws isn't to enforce them. Enforcing laws strictly is usually a dumb idea. You punish people when they're bad, assuming you can find laws that they've broken, which you usually can.
The point of laws is so that you know what you can't be punished for even if it pisses off certain people. Anything that isn't forbidden is permissible.
...not in this story's Equestria, though. They've got some powerful arbitrary justice going on.
