I think Dinky needs to learn how to keep Piña's developing neuroses in check, just as Piña tries to do for Dinky.
I'm so excited!!
The best laid plans never survive first contact with the enemy.
I think if I was the evil force behind the wolves I would have plans of my own. It knows they're building an airship, if the wolves are earth ponies then it needs Pegasi. I bet he has a few shades, or a banshee or two to deal with flying threats. Also If I were the evil entity I'd developed some anti air artillery. As for magic... thats a bit more tricky.
Im starting to think that this entity has a power similar to Dinky's. I wonder if it can block out her magic with a barrier or if it was just countering her magic.
As for my prediction on what it is, Litch... most likely some descended of Sombra made it as far as Bucky then died to Sombra's malice.
A brigade of widows fighting to protect the foals of the ones who ended the sweeps and are fighting to end the wolves! I'd rather fight a pride of manticores with sore fangs.
I keep saying this, but it is very true. Eery bucking time i sense something wrong with this story, kudzu comes with a chapter and everything look so right !
Sure, Bucky is preparing his herd to fight, but it´s not just "power up and charge"...you need training, prepare, you need some experience. As the final fight approachs i kept thinking how the herd would battle witout proper training. They had a good test against the undead but, at the same time, the fight showed they weren´t that ready, with Sparkle almost getting herself killed, Bucky with sight problems, and enemies even more dangerous then they thought.
Then comes this chapter and we see that the end really is nigh. Final preparetions, proper military training, focus on strengths, an army being rised...gosh, kudzu, you´re good man ! My F5 key is almost broke ! I donpt know wich trick you´ll pull from your hat, but must be a good one if you have anything even better to use i the next arch, considereing how good this one is !
I'm completely lost as to how electromancy would be used to create a storm. I could see electromancy being used to supercharge an existing storm, but not to create one from thin air.
If there is a convenient body of water, then maybe Unicorn fire spells could be used to cause enough evaporation for the Pegasi to come in and make the thunderstorm, which Lyra could then charge.
I'm also curious why Sparkler would be on the airship, instead of on the ground. When she's in her stone form, I imagine she's better-protected than Bucky.
Similarly, wouldn't Rising be liable to damage the airship, if he's slinging fireballs & the like around? That's not to mention his completely-on-fire form.
4875486
I'm concerned, too: I would expect the enemy to move as soon as the first den of wolves is wiped out. Or maybe the power drain is faster than I'm expecting.
So many possibilities!
Crazy Mare Brigade... keep them with foals to activate deadly motherly instincts... this is a terrible weapon to unleash upon any evil forces... the battle will be glorious
This reminds me of the feminists a bit. "Let's stop violence against women, but violence against men is funny! "
Still though keep it up
We need an earth pony for the earth pony.
Specifically helping Piña's magic problems the way she helps Dinky.
4875821 I thought the same thing for a moment, but, then, i understtod that she was not under magic neurosis, but it was the anxiety of being the only foal around so many adults, and being responsible for a VERY important decision.
4875853
She will still likely need it, even if not now.
I still want pictures of the cuddle-puddles this herd forms drawn at some point. Pina and Dinky, Bucky and his mares, Derpy and all the foals ever, Bon-Bon, Lyra, and little Harper, etc.
Pina is right. Damn clever little filly.
4875683 I think you're confusing real feminists with Tumblr's brigade of Social Justice Warriors. Fair enough, I don't know much about it, but I thought what feminism was about was gaining equality amongst men.
Between intuition and intelligence, Piña is a frighteningly competent tactician for a filly her age. Her plan definitely makes sense. The question becomes what complications they'll face in trying to enact that plan. After all, all that harvested energy can likely go towards replacement harvesters. They'll need to time this carefully...
Also, glad to see Deadspin got his head screwed on straight by the end of the meeting. Or so I hope.
Looking forward to more.
4875594
Storms fall under the sphere of electromancy.
Bucky can create blizzards with cryomancy.
It isn't a stretch.
Put Lyra and Bucky together, and you could create a nor'easter of devastating proportions.
I mean, scrub civilisation off of a continent sort of magic.
Thankfully, most unicorns are too wrapped up in their studies to bother.
Pity I'm not in this version of Equestria, They'd do well with a Star-child on their side.
4875683
4875970
This isn't about violence against males.
This is about females wanting to avenge their husbands.
Wolves have balls too.
4876248 what does that have to do with what I said.
The intent does not matter. Only what is interpreted by readers. What they got out of it. You have a bad habit of trying to explain what you have written. Your writing should have informed me itself or in this case not falsely inform me.
to put it another way, The reader can't read your mind only your words through their perception.
4876369
I like a bit of intentional misdirection and I allow people to mislead themselves. I want people to make assumptions so I can challenge them.
Crap...I knew Lyra was powerful, but if she has that much potential, I'd hate to be on the wrong side when she drops the neurosis and really gets pissed.
4876377 Remember one of the very first definitions you wrote ´bout this story ? A pegasus chase a unicorn. He does not understand why.
For all new readers, The Chase essence is misleading, misinterpretations, mistakes. And make no mistake, you all WILL make mistakes if you try to forsee what the author is trying to do. That´s the fun in this story !
4876482
Type threes.
Always just one eye twitch away from major disaster.
4876492 ...I'm using that phrase from now on.
Question.
Bucky is an type 4 ice elemental, and lyra can conjure up storms yes? So you said watermelon sized hailstones.... boulder sized hailstones hmmm? Or is that overkill :3
Buck that, what about lyra+rising star combo.... FIRESTORM MUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
The possibilities of powerful unicorn elementals combining are ridiculous
4876377 that is insanity. Your writing is portraying something then when someone points it out you reveal something you left out then say they were wrong?
That either means you are a liar or an asshole. Cause that's not doing anything but falsely fulfilling your own ego.
4876899
The Chase is all about assumptions.
I brought up equine feminism and people immediately cried out about human feminism. Even after it was posted that it was equine feminism, people bitched about human feminism.
Which was sad, because I think a lot of people felt threatened by it.
4875970 I use to think the same. Until I saw a bunch of girls campaigning to prevent female rape while laughing at male prison rape.
Because you know rape is fine against men while catcalls are a real problem.
4876916 by feminist in real life? Yeah, many do.
They are sexist and demented while having a huge say in how the countries are run. They claim that leadership roles are withheld from women but never notice the few who do succeed matching up with the number presuing. They are a sickness in western modern society and need to be treated as such.
Even so with the pony ones needing some liberation you have shown that those negative aspects exist as well.
4877374
There is something wrong with you. There exist a group of females who have had their husbands taken from them by a particular group, and wish to get revenge, and that is the same as our feminazis who promote double standards and hate men? You must have missed the part where a.) they were MARRIED, and b.) that makes no fucking sense at all.
4877529 What I was speaking about is not this one instance ( if he actually said they were mares who lost thier husbands and wanted revenge I think that's sensible) its the general feel of the story and how it insights emotional reactions.
The author needs to see its not the readers fault what is gotten from the words. It is the writer.
If this is a feeling that is drawn from the work then the work is conveying that message. Regardless of the intent of the writer. I have been trying to make him understand that. As an author he choose to use a word for a movement that exists in our world. This draws parallels. He should understand that we will automatically assume it shares the same attitudes unless he goes out of his way to show how it differs.
That drawing parallels is simply how the mind works.
4877763
But see, the problem is that you aren't doing the same thing. The author is doing their best to help you understand what they're trying to do, and you aren't even budging your notions. If someone is misunderstanding something that kudzu wrote, kudzu goes and tries to explain what was meant.
On the ongoing discussion of feminism, I have to say is that it's just like Homestuck. All you see is Mordor, where if you actually go just a bit further inland, there's a beautiful garden of lovely awesomeness and, in the case of feminists, equality. Feminism is that everyone should be equal. Period. End of statement. Close curtains, high five everyone, pay the cast/crew, go home, sleep.
4876899 so what if he's insane, he probably became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.
4878037 I have gone inland and found only hollow words. Third wave femminism has caused great harm in the world. It has done nothing but to make females a more privileged gender. Treating them as weak. You see, I believe women and men are equal but different. That the type of reproductive organ you have should have no effect on the law. Femminism as a movement has lead to women getting reduced sentences, to the destruction of rational thought, to increased violence, to the treatment of boys as criminals and to millions of young children left with no fathers. I have a very big problem with femminism. I have seen it destroy to many boys and girls to allow fear of being labeled a misogynist to stop me from speaking out against it.
The point that I am honestly surprised is still not in your head is that whatever the author says the story is about is pointless. What matters is what the story says. Not what he says the story says.
He failed to convey what he meant in story. This is a problem. One he refuses to see and so has no chance of fixing.
4878158
4878214 I just read it for the plot >.>
Its not.. Bad.. That I have this page on a 2 minute refresh loop, is it?
4878214
How bout we call it equality and stop the conversation. The entire chapter had instances of Keg Smasher and others thinking about changing how mares are viewed in the isles, instead of just as weak and only good for foal birth, but instead as vicious protective mothers and wives, whom would be able to kill you with like... A glance.
A lot of the chapter lead into the introduction, however brief, of these 'Ball Busters', as these mares decided to call themselves. Anyways, it was meant to be funny, and I for one took it as such. And I know that most of kudzu's readers did as well.
It's how kudzu writes, anyone who's been reading knows that, and if you don't like someone's writing style, then deal with it. If you're gonna get snippy because you don't like something, then you are not respecting the person who's put their work into it. You cannot change how someone writes.
There are no grammatical and/or spelling errors in the story. Kudzu is open to corrections about grammar and spelling. Overly critisizing the story, and insulting the author, because it has a component you don't like is rude and ignorant.
Now, I'm tired, sick, and I have to work early
tomorrowtoday. I'm going to bed. Good night everyone.4878553 I am for equality. But calling a dog a cat don't make it so.
It is the message I object to not the style.
This is easily my favorite fanatic because of the story, the unique view of the three types of ponies, the beautiful character development, and it is ongoing, good work my friend.
4878214
You might have failed to see what he means, but I haven't had any issues following it.
4878701 neither have I but it is conveying subtext he did not mean then he is dismissive when people point it out.
4878653
Shhhhhhhh. Only sleep now. Shhhh. Shh.
Oh this is going to be fun...
4876916 For me it was much like creamy potato soup. When I was like 9 I got sick and because "soup is good for you" when you're sick I had some "Velvety Potato Soup." Tasting the soup the second time around was, well it wasn't pleasant. I've never once had anything with the words potato and soup in the same phrase since and I don't intend to regardless of how good it may actually be. The term feminism is potato soup for me. While I know its mostly the radicals blasting their propaganda across the web, per usual, they've managed to sour the word on my tongue. Do I get what you're saying? Totally. Do I cringe every time its brought up? You bet your sweet ass I do. I can't imagine no one else has made a similar statement in the comments here or a pm but just in case, there ya go.
As an after thought, I'm not real big on the "Ball Busters" name. For abused women, er, mares perhaps? looking for empowerment I could see it working, however stereotypical it may sound. Widows? Not so much. Then again the Isles seem a bit hard on their women so they could very well be one and the same.
4878729 What are you talking about I got hours before it's time for sleep l
For too long, I have been taunted by the ammount of chapters you post.
For too long, I see the distance between the current chapter, and the chapter I'm on, increase in distance.
WELL, NO MORE.
I have initiated plan; "sleep early," and it has proven sucessfull!
Now I can finally read the other fics in my read later category!
As soon as I catch up on my other favorites...
I'll have other humongous storys to read... Shite
Also: calling it, the one behind the wolves is... Probably someone from house Averice (It's too late for me to spell, or look up if I spelt it right)
Or it could be Fell Sombra. <-does that make since?
Alright, too tired to sleep.
Keep writing, I'll read it, Although, I feel the buildup is kinda... Alot
4878715
There are just so many problems with what you're saying, I don't even know where to start.
For one, there's a difference between him CONVEYING subtext and you reading things into it. I could say "red is my favorite color," and you could decide that what I meant was that I was a communist. That's not my fault, nor is it my responsibility to change my statement because you decided to read subtext into it.
Second, I don't even understand what subtext you're even picking up. You're linking it to a flawed, misogynistic perspective of modern, HUMAN feminism, yet the closest thing I can find is the general idea that mares are ponies too and should be respected just as much as stallions, rather than abused and treated as livestock like they have been on the isles. Unless what you're meaning to say is that they SHOULD be abused and treated as livestock, and the main characters seeing and pointing out this injustice is wrong, in which case you are just an asshole.
Third is your general attitude that, if you don't like something with the story, then it is inherently bad and the author needs to change it. That's just egotistical, delusional, and dismissive of the intent of the author and the tastes of the other readers. It's not your story. You may not like aspects of it, but you're not the only reader. The story was not made for you. He's not going to change one of the main themes of the story just because you would rather it be about how men are better and women don't deserve equality. If that's what you want, then find something else. Other people like the story, including myself and -- most importantly -- the author.
Fourth is your stubborn refusal to understand what people are telling you. Particularly, all of the above, but not all at once or so bluntly. GET OVER YOURSELF.
Fifth, you're an asshole.
And that's all I have to say about that.
4879012
First of all ( see I know what numbers are as well) This is not in the context of a conversation or my opinion alone. By his own words many have voiced concern over this subtext but he claims many are seeing something that is not there.
This is a false equivalence by the way:I could say "red is my favorite color," and you could decide that what I meant was that I was a communist.
I was speaking in the sense of a writer not in the sense of a conversation. When a writer writes something it takes on a life independent of the author. That is why we even have fan fiction.
Second If you don't see what me and others are seeing that's fine. Perhaps you have not experienced the terrible side effects of modern feminism and so are not attuned to it. What you have failed to understand is that I have been trying to convey to the author that by drawing a parallel he draws in all the baggage with it. Including peoples perception of modern feminism. For many it treats women as fragile creatures needing protection while treating men as inherently evil.
Of course they needs equality but that is the problem. The parallels have been drawn and reinforced within the narrative. To put it simply the mares are concerned with making mares equal. A noble goal but like modern feminism it fails to see the areas were males are at a disadvantage in the homeland. It paints males as inherently violent. That if given the freedom then most would beat their wives. Remember that this pony 'feminist' movement was first brought up in the mainland. To put it simply the problem with feminism in both the real world and the pony one is that its goal is to ' make females equal to males' when it should be ' make all kinds equal in there rights' ( Just so you know if that was a real place I would gladly be there to fight for both equality and from the Isles freedom to self determine)
Third. The author should never change anything unless he wants to. Period. Me trying to show him what I reprieve as a flaw and get him to understand it is one thing. Trying to make him turn it into my way is another. If his comments showed that he understood the issue or even acknowledged it but decided not to change it then I would be cool.
Acusing me a misogyny is both cruel and unwarranted. It is a cheap blow so that you may pretend you come from a moral high ground when in reality you are defending a story that gave you great enjoyment from a precieved attack. I want equality. True equality. Where none is judged by gender.
Fourth. Right back at you. Consider that I come from a place of caring and not hate. I really like this story. I wouldn't comment if I didn't. This is for the authors benefit not mine. Try to remember that people who have different views from you are not evil. That they are all human.
Fith. In many ways you are as well. You are presumptuous and ill considerate of the possibility of other views coming from a place of concern. I understand why you are angry with me. Consider for a moment however that you may of misjudged me and my motivations. May you have a good day.
Brony on man. May we all be equal one day
Kudzuhiaku
I just found your work and I am very grateful for your efforts. The characters are memorable and I don't confuse them when I don't see them for periods of time, depending on who the camera is chasing. I read from a phone so please forgive me for not speaking earlier.
For discussion:
I miss Derpy having the camera and character development. She has been reduced in role from where she began and outside smacking around Keg Smasher has plateaued as the matriarch of the herd. Outside "live in daycare" and having a voice in the domestic lives of those under her wings, she has not grown nearly as much as the ponies around her. While its not fair to compare against Bucky and his growth / camera time she was the other half of how this started. Now she is background and feeling helpless over and over while even the children do more and continue to contribute to Bucky's efforts.
She might be his rock, but will she feel outgrown and left behind? New ponies pour in who interact with Bucky more on the level he is growing towards. How does a pony of action who takes life in both hooves, who was at the ground floor when this business started rectify having a nice office and title but is far from the board of directors and can't put her hoof down without being in the way?
I am worried that one day soon Bucky is going to walk in front of a mirror, and while he will dismiss how much has changed and all the high mileage he has endured in such a short amount of time, the back of his mind won't. He is going to suffer a fracture greater than his safety net can withstand if he does not shatter entirely. Yes, the ghosts and other notables have tried to "game the system" by reinforcing that safety net, I don't think Old Bucky (say, six months ago) and Current Bucky can coexist without a lot more collateral damage around him. Yes, the booze and female companionship can cover things up for a while (I know that the companionship is meaningful but quick growth and fluid enviroment are not stability) yet he is so far removed as a pony from before the Derpy crash incident to current status that his stability is highly questionable. He has grown too quickly for his psyche to support and he will fall apart. While Luna has been a dream safety net her current missing-in-action status (did she sign on to be super-glue that holds ponies minds together?) tells me that when he hits the wall at his high rate of speed the flame out won't be pretty.
I am glad that every time Bucky sees his children he does not see the half eaten one witnessed when he was introduced to the wolves handiwork. That may change with the new addition of Harper. The newborns extreme vulnerability might be the last straw, its the little things that add up...
4876199
continueing on from this description on the power level available
Pyroclastic Cloud or how did Pompeii dissapear could be achieved by Rising and Sparkler via a Joint spell.
Solar Flare or Plasma Scorched Earth; Rising and Lyra
nuclear winter all the type three's working together
remember Celestia (type 4.5) moved the sun and moon, Daily, pre series.
I think this chapter broke my badass-o-meter.
