Accordion??? Do we get to hear polka parodies of some pony songs?
[First comment!!!!]
*Remmy whispers*Be quiet Slate we don't want to flaunt that in their faces!
Keep working on it bro.
accordion
need to
.............. okay gotta say no bout this.
luna not telling them about what is happening is against her character, because she actually became a monster herself and would not deny them that.
celestia would not have ponies altered to begin because that would offset them in many a way.
more so all this is going to do is create ammunition against them, andthey should realize this. this is them succumbing to the threat of another.
and a guy who is ultimately not really worth the worry. the guy has a blaring weakness that could be exploited, making all this unnecessary.
5939452
Yes... because there is only ONE guy to worry about. The rest of them can be safely ignored!
Haven't seen pinkie for a while...
Also some heavy shit this chapter... Feelz
Pronk. Almost sounds like an onomatopoeia for Pinkie's bounce.
5939463 I liked it, it appears to be setting up for a shit storm on the horizon !
5939471
I hope that changeling magic doesn't give Chrysalis a backdoor into the Shadowbolts.
Fancy presents a problem on many levels. No choice is perfect here...
Poor Larch. More luck than he knows what to do with. The jury's out on whether it's good or bad, but it's definitely luck.
Very good to see Pinkie back to her reality-distorting self. Love and time make for a potent poultice.
5939486 Another one that comes to mind is what Pepe le Pew does when chasing that cat.
5939486
That looks so silly. Like something out of a cartoon.
5939461 he is the larger threat here, supposedly. the cultists are a matter that cannot be settled with armies. and in generally altering ponies for war will have a vastly negative impact in the long run, maybe even the short run.
guess ultimately i am really disappointed after the build up for that night stallion. ultimately he does not seem like much of a threat. his tactics are simply self destructive and is unable to comprehend why scientists would be important despite their lack of ability to fight. its hard to imagine the ponies would have lasted at all under his rule. his tactics destroy those who can help sustain it, even with them stealing food. cooks would be sacrificed, scientists are sacrificed, and even good fighters are sacrificed because he sets them against enemies far beyond their ability to fight, and they are the only ones he wants around to begin with.
5939486 Thanks for the vid! I knew what it meant, but when the word is applied to Pinkie, it makes her sound puckish.
Puckish Pinkie pronks playfully
Try saying that 3 times fast
5939452
I think saying Luna treating her assets like pawns with no free will, who don't need to be treated with respect once they say "yes, I'll follow you" is entirely within her character. It's the same thing that she does with the Myrmidons, after all.
Does that make her a monster? Maybe. But I don't think that makes it out of character for her.
5939631 yes it does. this hwole thing has been out of character to be honest. she is basically going through the same things that turned her into nightmare moon again, and somehow not realizing this herself.
5939647
I think... that's true from one angle, but from another angle a lot of what she's doing could be her responding to her previous feelings that drove her to become Nightmare Moon.
She's definitely keeping the populace at a distance, by making herself out to be the Bogeymare, and that is, presumably, part of the problem she had before. But on the other hand, I think a lot of what she's doing seems a lot like something that someone who is trying trying to recover from the feelings of jealousy might do. She is ensuring she is at top. That she will not be questioned. That she is absolute. That she is definitely of worth, and worthy of being royalty. She is diving into her job, and she is making sure that the things she creates have real impact on the world. Something that someone who wants to find her her place might do...
Could be about something else, of course. I could be way off base, because this is almost all speculation.
Not to mention I have a thing against Luna in this story, and this is an unflattering view of her actions.
Dammit, Luna.
Celestia is getting neurotic.
5939452
So why is using Changeling magic make them monsters but dark shadow magic is all wholesome? Everyone who signed up knew they were becoming monsters in the dark why should it matter what kind of magic they are using. It's like they work for Microsoft but part of the new operating system was coded on a Mac. Who cares, it's not like Ponies are going to have allergic reactions to the magic. It's not like gluten or something.
5939862
Considering what changelings are made of?
"Obscenity" is an understatement. Let's just mention it took a literal bad seed, a cesspool of evil slime, carnivorous fly-eating plants, and feeding the lot the blood of Starswirl (by accident) just to hatch the first changelings and Chrysalis.
The origin story in the comics is...unpleasant.
5939862 shadow magic is not inherently dark. more it is not parasitic in nature, and also not connected to what may well be some kind fo illness that turned ponies into insectoid mutations.
though by all means the shadow magic is pretty much going too far as well.
5939889 also highly limiting and too fueled by coincidences.
5939889
Kudzu wrote the lore for the Changeling far before the comics. It has been hinted at that Changeling are Ponies with some sort of affliction. But regardless of what lore Kudzu uses Changeling magic is just magic. Like Dark magic, or elemental magic, or harmony magic it has its uses.
The point of the shadow bolts was to create warriors who can win at all costs. If they are going with half measures here they might as well not do it at all.
5939417 Was*
I haven't read it since Chapter 327.
5939894
So your problem is with the whole project? You think that just because the enemy is ruled by a psycho with a bad business model they will just disappear overnight? Sorry to say but locust don't usually die off until they've eaten all the resources in an area.
The reason the Night stallion is a threat and the reason he can throw Ponies away as he does is because that is their only expendable resource. They have far to many of an ever growing population with limited space and resources. For everyone he loses there is at least two ready to take their place. Because of their Spartan culture each individual is a born warrior and can offer at least the level of support as basic infantry. Because they do not limit themselves in weaponry and tactics they have force multiplication fare superior than anything Equestria has.
What do you propose Equestria does? What can they do that doesn't violate some moral, or law, or open the doors to Hell? What Luna decided was to fight monsters she would make monsters, in this Fiction, Luna embraced her darker side as a means of protecting what she loves. And knowing that there are others out there like her willing to put everything on the table is what makes this project posible.
What do you propose
5939932 And, again, kudzu lead us to missbelief...
Let´s wait...let´s see what will come from that.
Also, chapter theme: hard "no win scenario" decisions. yes, even to Larch. Actually, SPECIALLY for Larch...he´ll date two hot earth ponies, and will have to talk with two TERRYFYING parents. No, really, between the boogiepony itself and a over-protective and zealous Applejack, I would prefer to just cut my throat...easier and less painfull...
5940009
So the ends justify the means? It doesn't matter how little respect or consideration you give to your future soldiers or employees, because they've already signed the "go ahead" waiver, and they're now expendable?
... Who does that tactic remind me of...
Oh yes. The Mirror Travelers. They threw away everything in their world to win the war against an insane Luna herself. And as a result, now that they've won, they have a culture that is utterly incapable of moving on to peace.
But I'm sure Luna is going to be able to do a better job at that, right?
I'm sure that changeling instincts to consume the emotions of those around them will play very well with the new vicious predatory instincts that putting shadow into people will do, and the fact that they didn't know what they were signing up for won't mean they feel upset at Luna for effectively lying to them at all. I'm sure they'll integrate smoothly into society after this is all said and done and not hold any feelings that they are going to be excluded for being even more alien than the already-separate night pegasi.
This plan of hers certainly has no potential holes in it, and her not telling them what they're getting into definitely wouldn't make it worse.
5940009 Taking your argument and expanding it a little bit.
Like I said a gazillion times before, my personal Chase-verse version relays uppon high tech. So, let´s imagine that, in the place of arcane shadow-empowered changeling augmented soldiers we have, well, let´s say, "normal" soldiers. Only with a high tecnology, ships and transforming fighters.
In a medieval-level of tecnology world.
So you won´t have any modifications uppon the bodies of such soldiers, with the exception of an ocasional implant. So, in that case, it would be okay, right ? No ethical questionable body modification, right ?
Nope.
You have a WHOLE society modified by the introduction o a tecnology level never ever imagined before ! How you thing the whole Equestria, and the rest of Equs, would react, with such radical changes ? Social chaos, conservative movements (asking for the things to stay like they were) and a lot of disarmony.
So, no matter what you do, magic enhancement, or tecnological upgrade, things will be ethical questionable. Or they can do nothing and die. Maybe, if they had more time, things could be smoother...but the travelers are prooving thenselves to be a threat faster then I though. Time is not an avalaible asset. They need more powerfull soldiers, they need a more powerfull army, and they need it NOW !
5940067
In the comments section: MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING!
The scenario hasn't even played out, the scene hasn't even been revealed, and already so much fuss over what amounts to an incomplete data set.
It is Cheerilee is a bad school teacher all over again!
5940078
Yeah. I went too far with the speculation on this.
I was trying to point out that Luna is taking more extreme measures (which would usually involve more risk), and that is disrespectful to the people she is permanently changing with those extreme measures to not tell them, but I wound up with "And those extreme measures are inherently bad."
Sorry about that... been having a problem with that stuff lately too, so there's no excuse for me being unaware of that.
5940067
What do morals mean if you are exterminated? Yes that is exactly what the mirror travelers do. That is exactly why they do the things they are doing. We can judge all we want but when you are the one starving you can make the call on whether you'll eat people dead or not.
5940076 makes my point, the only kind of magic the mirror travelers refuse to have anything to do with is shadow magic. It's a weakness that can be exploited, to decide if surviving is more important than morals... Yes, yes it is.
5940125
Honestly, the ends never justify the means. The means create the ends, and taking a "darker" solution always creates a different end situation. Like if you kill a serial killer instead of jailing them you have created a different situation. It might even be a better one, because he cannot escape and kill again. Or a worse one because you'd never get the information as to this killers psychology, leading to better prevention or hunting of other killers later.
So, of Luna's actions, maybe the consequences are not worse. But... well the Mirror Travelers are still my example. They took the most brutal solution possible because they saw no other ones, and now they're stuck in an unsustainable situation that is going to get them exterminated. They can't even see another outcome because they threw away the part of themselves in the conflict.
So, like Kudz says, we have to see the end of it. Is the cost of Luna disrespecting her troops leading to a bad end? Or is it something that is brutal but necessary? Or something that's better anyway because they'd be turned away by the suggestion that they are going to be changed to eat fear? Or is not telling them something that is completely unnecessary and just Luna being arrogant enough to consider them pawns in her plan who don't deserve to know the fate she's planned for them? We don't know, so yeah... we can predict all day, but back to waiting.
5940180
Well I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, while I agree with you under normal circumstances doing what Luna is doing would be wrong. But I truly believe that Luna as well as the Mirror Travelers are not wrong in their actions. Yes the Mirror travelers had to destroy part of their equinity to survive, yes had they talked things out maybe they would have had better luck. But in all honesty were I in their shoes I can't say that I wouldn't have supported full invasion. They have every advantage over Equestrian, they are desperate warriors with nothing to lose and everything to gain, and this Equestria was a sespit of greed and overabundance. Luna on the other hand is facing a tough decision, fall back and rely on limited military resources to continue fighting a losing battle, or quickly try to increase her effective forces. Luna has one saving grace the Mirror Travelers did not. She has the Luxury of having a culture to preserve. Celestia and Twilight both stand as guardians of that, to make sure there is a link to come back to.
5940237
No I... even though I am using them as the "bad example", it looks like they have done essentially the only thing they could have, both in attacking Equestria and in how they had to cast aside a part of themselves to defeat both Nightmare Moon, then the demons that took advantage of Luna's fall. Basically, if Luna became NMM, then the world ends, and the Mirror Travelers are doing their best to scrape by with a wrecked world.
Maybe talking over things with Equestria could lead to healing but.. they lack the culture to do that. They are now a warrior culture, and their only way is to conquer anymore. Anything that doesn't lead to that down the line is gone, and completely impossible because of the ridiculously drastic measures they had to go to to not die earlier.
I pity them for this.
As for Luna... actually in this situation I'm more angry that she's displaying a staggering lack of respect and trust in her future special ops team by not telling them what they're actually getting into. I don't see a logical reason about that beyond the fact that she believes it would scare them away, which is still... displaying a lack of trust in them, and it seems like she's hoping that they start to like their changeling magic before they find out about it, because otherwise she's just going to hurt her relationship with them.
I suppose Celestia could have some of the food set aside in a 'defense reserve' and otherwise letting it be equal. Names of things in conundrums like that can do funny things to public perception. The right name and spin, everyone is at least understanding to a degree. Still a painful trap though.
