I love that movie.
Why I think suddenly in S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier?
Two instances of reign/rein confusion. When in doubt, you probably mean rein, but if you're talking about a period of time or rulership, it's reign, if you're talking about controlling something or someone, or the physical piece of tack, it's rein.
Honestly testing out seems more like losing a lot of money to big beasts tearing aparty everything you throw at em.
I think there has been an untinentional, but drastic, bit of plot convenience going on with the dragons. Suddenly making it that they are in fact a lot more vulnerable than they were originally portrayed. One destroyed the crystal empire and killed an alicorn. All of the sudden the beasts that can create a immenselty destructive stand off against a first stage alicorn is actually a lot more vulnerable to magic and the tricks of ponies... kinda meaning cadance could have jsut magicked the dragon attacking her home into submission.
7195184
Not exactly. A drop ship. See, to launch a gyro, you only need to drop them. In free fall, the blade on top spins and provides lift.
It'll be big though.
A couple of days ago I was remembering the problems with each tribe. Unicorns are neurotic and prone to mental illness, Pegasi have violent behaviour....but I couldn´t remember the problem with earth ponies...
Now I remember....
7195193
Cadance wasn't a skill magic user though.
You're missing the point. Bucky doesn't want to use the dragons for testing. That's an excuse. He just wants the means to get the mechanisation required to build his vision of a worthy army to fight the mirror travelers. The dragons are a means to end. An excuse.
Let that sink in for a while.
The situation with the dragons is as much of a situation as you are trying to make it out to be. Think of it as a cold war. Present the illusion of might and strength and everybody goes about their lives feeling happy, safe, and secure.
The dragons are just a useful stand in for mirror travelers to scare everyone and keep them in line.
I wish I didn't have to explain the painfully obvious, but here I am, saying all of the things that should be pretty easy to figure out.
7195184 Bucky has wanted to be Pony Stark from way back in the Shetlands. Shame the Fates and the Creator would prefer him to be Doctor Strange and Loki respectively.
The longer this goes on the more it seems like "We" are becoming the bad guys. I mean, Hitler did quite a bit of what Bucky has done. And, in the Weed universe, where if you do something "Bad" you get punished so severely that you want to kill yourself from it? It just seems... Bad.
7195196 It'll still need a short runway (or two) to collect returning autogyros though as they don't land vertically.
7195204 you are mixing up the issues here.
i know what bucky is intending. the issue is the set up here. Somehow dragons are a threat, when they are easily killed. Somehow dragons killed cadance, when they are vulnerable enough to magic that mere unicorns can affect them. Somehow dragons can match the power of alicorns yet they were forced to the other side of the world.
There is an ongoing amount of contradiction going on with dragons here. It seems like plot convenience more than anyhting. They die easy when it is convenient, kill powerful beings when its convenient.
Also what the hell does being skilled with magic in general have to do with someone who is an inborn empath capable of an army into a giant orgy if she wanted, and using that on a creature that far weaker magic useres can affect with magic?
7195259
...by trained soldiers prepared to go fight dragons
1 dragon, actually. Probably had something to do with Cadence not being very good at magic and not very good at fighting either.
Do remember that if you get enough unicorns in a room you can move the sun and moon, even if the needed caloric intake is a bit extreme. You are also missing a lot of scale because you seem to forget that while most of the unicorns in the main cast of the Chase are type 3 and type 4, the vast majority of unicorns that exist are type 2s. Where the type 3s and 4s might be good enough, after being trained, to deal with a dragon, simply being a type 3 is quite literally on a completely different level than being a type 2.
Mere is not a word you use to describe unicorns like Bucky and Sparkler. These ponies are standouts among their race and should not be considered a baseline to judge other unicorns by.
Cadence never showed any capability to do such and never learned Bucky's rape bomb spell, and you can bet she would have been disgusted to have witnessed the absolute travesty and horror that such a spell is, and I doubt she would even be able to bring herself to use such a spell. Because it's a complete and utter perversion of her very essence.
Cadence was not a fighter, she was not trained for combat, and she would certainly not have a reasonable excuse to actually know any spells to fight something like a dragon. She is not Bucky, and does not have that intuitive sense of "How to defeat my enemies" that he has, and lacking either combat training or tons of experience in magic she would also not be adept that making up spells to throw at the dragon. And notice how when fighting the dragons has been discussed it's involved intelligent use of ones magical abilities, not just dull brute force of "throw magic at it".
You are the one that expects that just being an alicorn should have been enough for Cadence to automatically win a fight. Well Bucky's been a Type 4 all story, a magician on-par with basically every alicorn around, with an innate, inborn sense of how to defeat anyone and everyone, and look how very unharmed he's come out of it all.
The only reason he's not straight-up dead despite his incredible magical ability is because he innately knows how to win his fights. If he weren't the nascent alicorn of war he'd have died during the Isles arc.
7195560 and you outright ignored half of what i said.......
7195258
Yes, and it will have it. A catch pad with a hook system.
7195244
This is becoming more of "What is necessary?" and will reach a conclusion soon enough.
7195651 And you're completely ignoring the fact that Cadence was not a fighter and not a mage and honestly would have been near-completely incompetent in a 1-on-1 fight with a dragon. You assigned her a lot of competence so that you could say that dragons effortlessly match alicorn-level power, but she wouldn't have been so competent in a fight.
Of course, you also probably think the dragon population must be in the low hundreds if you think the 4 combat-ready, magic-trained alicorns that exist on the entire planet could deal with the entire problem on their own even if each of them was a match for a hundred dragons apiece.
You're the one saying it's inconsistent, but the one example you have of a dragon killing a "powerful" pony was Cadence, and Cadence was a greenhorn in both combat and magic. She would have fought it like a pegasus would fight. But without any magical augmentation, which has been emphasized as the thing that makes that fight doable for a pegasus and that without it the pegasus is completely and utterly doomed.
7195259 Let´s put this way: one unicorn is just a meal for a dragon. A group of unicorns can kill a dragon. A well trained unit with a mix of unicorns, pegasi and earth ponies means that dragons flee away, ´cause they are not stupid and they like to live and breed.
"Oh, so, dragons are no match for ponies, why ponies should fear then ?"
They shouldn´t. But they don´t know. All they know is that dragons are big, scary and like to eat delicious pony meat of non-cock variety. Only now the ponies are starting to rediscover their power THROUGH UNITY AND FRIENDSHIP wich, until a couple of months ago, did not exist !
"So, if common ponies can kill dragons easily, why Cadence died ?"
Cadence fought alone. Alicorn or not, she was alone. She did not have ANY combat training. Being a natural-born pegasus, she did not have much magic experience outside the love field (Twilight, in the other hand, with all her magic ability, could kill gryphons by hundreds but, yet, even her WAS NOT ALONE !)
"So Bucky is basic lying to the entire world in order to get the things the way he see fits ?"
Well...that´s our beloved, twisted and manipulating Bucky. That´s what he does best...and he is the best at what he does !
7195884 For starters, i enver said anything about bucky. He has done stuff like this before. Albeit this seems like an immensely bad idea cause dragons are not universally mercury addled hyena birds. Lot more not psychopathic souls in the crosshairs here.
Other than that, even a group of unicorns i have a hard time seeing outright killing a dragon. And that is only if a dragon is working alone to begin with. Could as easily have two other dragons with them as back up. Group might kill one dragon, but when there is three they do not have the time to do so. Cause they have three sets of eyes to notice them, and three fiery jaws that will attack them from several angles.
Also the implication that cadance did not know much magic at all is implausible. Outside of the fact that i am pretty sure celestia would teach her a few spells, as threats have apepared before and might try to harm the new alicorn, but she has shown on Multiple occassions she knows more spells. Hell she held off sombra on her own. In this an apparent specter of him perhaps, but still a threat well beyond that dragon that killed her.
Just saying there is some ongoing inconsistencies it seems.
7195733 Problem is it was the whiskey she give me that got me there.
7196053
It´s canon, even withim the show, that dragons are not social creatures. They mostly roam alone or in couples. No organized dragon army there. And, withim the chaseverse, dragons have no special abilities beyond being big, strong, and breathing fire. A well trained unicorn...ONE well trained unicorn, not even a particulary powerfull or resourcefull one, can just focus his telekinesis uppon the dragons heart and, BANG, instant heart attack. I´m not even thinking ´bout going to the more easy targets, like eyes, inner ears or thraqueia.´
She knows magic. She does not know COMBAT magic. Nor she is trained in combat at all ! You can get an unicorn, teach him all the combat spells in the world but, if you don´t train him to know how to behave in a true, stressfull near-death of combat situation, that´s useless. Oh, look ! Private Pissy Pants, top score in the combat magic class, just pissed himself into complete inutility...he really shound have take those combat simulation sessions...
Actually...she just bubbled the city...she never fought Sombra face to face, magic to magic. Shining fought, and lost, he have combat training and experience, he is a veteran and a soldier, he even fought Tirek, and lost.
Errr, Shining, I´m starting to see a pattern there, my friend. Nothing much to shown since the changeling invasion, huh ?
Anyway, she is not a soldier. She does not know how to fight. He went to fight the dragon out of her protective pegasi instinct, without plans, strategy or preparation. If it was Twilight, they would need to search for centuries for any atom of the dragon.
"But Twilight is not a soldier too..."
Oh, boy, luck are us she is not a soldier. She fought, even withim the show, more times to save Equestria then the entire combined armies of the world ! She knows how to handle stress and against the odds situations (Ursa Minor incident anyone ?) and she is VERY resourcefull. She does not know much combat magic (well, did not...I´m pretty sure that at this point she have a couple ready to use) but she knows how to kill, eviscerate, burn, desintegrate and overall being a very creative killer with what she have.
As for Cadence, she knowns telekinesis, shield spells, love spells and estrus spells...
Ummmm...would an estrus induced dragon being easier or harder to fight ? Well, if it was a male, probably harder...
7196573
- Harder and longer.
7196581 Faster and deeper too ?
Am I guessing right from the Authors Note that the next chapter is going to be a time skip to a marriage or something?
7196643
No... just soonish.
7196573 yeah, cause they could somehow focus on the heart of a massive, constantly moving moving flying around and somehow apply the appropriate pressure.
let alone bypass their body's defenses and dense scales with their energy to do that to BEGIN with.
7196867
Teleport the head away from the body. Done.
7196874 and how would that even work?
sighs. nevermind.
She can shun all the aspects of the "Earth pony way" she wants but last I checked there weren't any Earth pony necromancers, demon worshiping summoners, or god killers.
7196874 Sooo..... Is the Authors Note an indication of upcoming events?
7197548
7197549 Yep. Thought so.
7196053
My understanding was that it was an elder dragon that killed Cadence, and given the dragon cultures we see in canon, they would have to be very adept at fighting to live that long.
Cadence, by contrast, lived her whole life as a princess of a peaceful, idyllic (on the surface) country. She had no firsthand combat experience.
Cadence is ridiculously powerful, yes. She probably was taught some combat magic she only half remembered by the time the dragon attacked, because she never used it. The fact is, no matter how strong you are, someone with better technique and more experience in the fray will defeat you. Book learning doesn't compare to being in the trenches.
7196874 People keep forgeting how powerfull and ütterly OP controled teleport is. Nightcrawler, from the X-Men, have the potential to be the more powerfull and merciless killer in the world. There is an alternate universe, where Apocalipse won (The Age of Apocalipse Universe) where, uppon fighting Warpath he just grab one of Warpath´s finger and teleport away...with the finger with him.
It´s teleport ! There are no defendeses, no bonuses, no nothing...you rip space appart and take whatever you want along side you ! Hey, Wolverine, mind if I take your head for a walk...oh, nonono, please, keep the rest of your body there, no need to bother...
But, AGAIN, first you need to be REALLY bloodthirsty (wich most versions of Nightcrawler, and most unicorns too) aren´t You need training, focus and combat stance.
Or you could just be Blink, and create a portal to the other side of universe, where there is no atmosphere.
No, really, if Blink was just a little more smart, X-Men: Days of a Future Past would have a 5 minutes long fight scene, where Blink just could teleport away (away as "you are not even in the same galaxy like the rest of us") all the sentinels !
Yeah, I know, they tone down their mutant powers and all...just saying, the real Blink would not even consider that a fight.
I'm getting an inkling where this feels like the beginning of fallout.
7201039
Never heard of Elfquest, any good?
7203038 so, just to be clear, you're making an argument for someone being alive despite them being exploded?
mawwaige. mawwaige is wut bwings us togever today.
7202818 Cool. You learn something new every day!
Alright man, here's the deal. You are an absolutly amazing and talented writer and you can make a great story, thats why i got as far as i did. however, i have two problems with this story in particuler. Number 1: you made the story way to long. I thought that i would enjoy a never ending story because i hate finality. But after the defeat of the wolves on their first adventure it got a little bit more and more boring until i stopped reading. Number 2: your main character got way to powerful. He can level a town in nothing flat, transform into a dragon, and he is basicly a god in general. You didnt leave much room for the little parts of life that he could get hung up on, its just from one big problem, some filler chapters, and another big problem. I know that alot of people disagree with me but wow dude... This story is almost THREE TIMES as long as the harry potter siries. Thats nuts. On the same token you found something you like doing so good for you. But i would try some other stories or generas. Branch off a bit and write medium length stories, you are a great writer and you have to concentrate that talent in a shorter story for it to get the appreciation it diserves.
7205140
Um, try looking at my other stories? I don't need to try anything.
Already doing it and have been for a loooooooooooong time.
7205143 dude, i just said you were a fantastic writer and you responded with one of the snobiest answers you could have... I didnt mean any insult, what gives?
7205335
Nothing snobby. Just pointing out that I have long ago tried other things. No worries.
7203783
Yes. There is no reason a sufficiently talented and powerful biomancer can't continue to move the blood between his meat hunks. so long as the soul remains in the vessel and the spell casting tool technically remains intact, the creature could move around as a cloud of blood, meat, and bone similar in a manner to how a pony might transmute themselves into water, fire, shadow, or other various elements. Though in the heat of combat they would either have to be a great snapcaster, or to enchant an item on their person to activate the spell should certain parameters be met. Hell, they might even enchant there body to part like butter and reform if a physical item rushes at them fast enough to harm them, and/or make an overshield that forces spells to dispel and redirects a portion of the energy from a spell back at the caster, while simultaneously using some of the energy from the spell to fuel the overshield so it doesn't fail. Magic is OP for those creative enough to find solutions, and intelligent enough to make them work. It's a shame that we have no basis for how complicated such a thing would be to do, and how much energy it would take to keep it from collapsing.
7202901 oh no this made me giggle... good job
Goodness, that's really deep about how some ponies (and people) don't realize they have a problem with someone or something being different until it's staring them in the face.
Wow, with over two million words put into one fanfiction, you must have a sh*t ton of free time!
7207452 well considering that he is more or less completely disabled and unable to work will do that.
