Also... this.
To be fair, Berry Punch warned him.
Hmm, yeah that's about as much chaos as I was expecting though I was more thinking on the lines of and experiment involving Pinkie Pie and pure caffeine or something.

6571732 Sentinel has a long list of mares to keep him in line, just like his father...he's really in for it when he gets back.
edit : it's nice to see DT really coming into her own :) It takes a lot to stand up to someone the way she did.
This gonna be good. This gonna be REAL good
bridle (assuming you're equating the reference to 'bodice rippers')

Oh heck no! Discord just wanted to create a distraction, not blow up Ponyville.
Maybe nobody is coming to stop them because they know they'll be fired upon. Or somepony back home called it off, or maybe hundreds of Pinkie Pies is that severe...wouldn't surprise me.
Story has more words than the library of Babel.

My only problem with it is that the story's overall tone around this part seems to make him out to be doing some great heroic thing. Like he's doing good. When he's risking his life, and the lives of his loved ones and family - not out of the desire to protect Sunset's life, but because he wants the kill. The line between honor and bloodlust is lost here.
The reason I was disappointed is because he showed a greater mental ability than this. From what should be his perspective he is throwing away his life, his herd's lives, and his sisters' lives, because he was upset. And apparently everyone who found out agreed that they shouldn't send the immensely powerful paladin with the specially prepared item, knowledge of darkness and powers of light, to go face the big evil ghost, and should let a bunch of other people die and still have a massive chance to fail. Since this was no longer an option, the letting people die while Sentinel trains, instead of letting other people die he's throwing himself at a being far more powerful than him and the other bunch of children.
I thought better of him. In this sense, being a child isn't about age. There's no magical age range where you're just incomprehensibly stupid to the point it goes against everything you know. There's no magical cut-off age where you stop being that stupid. He's proven that he is smarter than this, and then... ugh. Just. This. All of this. I hate this setup in every story I see it in, regardless of how well it ends up being written or played out. 'The children feel like they can win! Off they go, into adventure!' Reality check: They all die halfway there like we were playing Oregon Trail. Somebody's getting dysentery and someone's getting eaten by a bear.
Kudzu's mostly allayed my fears that they'll be seen as having done something heroic, or that it was brave. If Sentinel's supposed to be a knight, I don't see how anyone who holds him to the standard he holds himself could be proud of him in risking the lives of the royal family. That's what I dread most happening. Awards, medals, feeling of pride or vindication. For doing what should have been utterly impossible and best left up to someone arguably more suited.

You can already begin to see the consequences in the current chapter. The bad stuff hasn't even happened yet.
Also, before this is over, somepony is going to die.
Heh, Sentinel is screwed, he better kiss his ass goodbye. *chuckle*
6571255 ooo! That's goood!
I vote Sentinel becomes an alicorn! He has the heart for it. and the mind.
Someone's gonna die, huh? It's going to be one the the CMC. It was bound to happen. The funeral will be given by the Impressive Clergyman from The Princess Bride.
6572536
Um, I think you missed something. Sentinel does not become an alicorn. His body might, but he won't be there to enjoy it.
6572847
" his body might but he won't be there to enjoy it"
Wait.......WHAT?!
6572867
If he stabs that horn into his brain, Sentinel would ascend. Well, his body would.
6572867 He is refering to the fact that Sentinel was tempeted by the remains of Sombra´s Horn to shove such remains in his forehead to become an alicorn. A lunacorn, to be more precise.
Sure, the moment that happen, Sombra would possess such powerfull body, and goodbye Sentinel.
As for everyone complaining ´bout Sentinel making such stupid decision. Yes, it is stupid. But, no, it´s not from his will of revenge or glory. It was very, VERY, clearly stated that Sentinel is, indeed, thinking ahead and, even, tactically.
You see, Sunset will die if she fights Sombra. She may draw breath still, but she´ll be dead inside...in the best case scenario. Worst case scenario is...worst.
Now, her death is only the beginning of the downfall. Between Bucky cutting relationships with booth Luna and Celestia, his impeding worsening of his mental state, that will prevent booth his power to plan the war, and, also, may push him towards ascension, wich will, pretty simple, end the world (Sentinel stated that SEVERAL times in the chpater he made his decision to leave), the fact is that Sentinel have plenty of reasons to make this stupid, but tactical, decision.
It´s pretty simple indeed. Go and put himself (and his friends, herd and sisters) in danger, or the world ends, one way or another.
When you put this way, it don´t sound that stupid anymore, huh ?
6572919
Somebody was paying attention to the little details.
6572922 Little !? For star´s sake, you wrote the same thing in that chapter, what, six or seven times ? Even I was able to understand, and I´m slow as a rock !
6572123
Speaking as the author, I can tell you, if Sunset went and faced Sombra, she would die. She is not prepared. She does not have the means to defeat him. There is a weakness that Sombra has, and Sunset has no means to exploit it. Sombra would shred Sunset in moments upon meeting.
As for Sentinel, he also lacks the means to exploit it. Nevertheless, Sentinel is bringing with him the means to put an end to this menace once and for all. However, no one single pony in his party has the means to put an end to Sombra. This is a hint.
A group of ponies are going off to battle winter itself.

6572936
Nope, as stated, Barley attends the funeral at the end of The Chase.
6572887
Riiight. I read that part last night in my mad catch up spree and it didn't click!
6572919
Thanks! Sometimes this all gets to be too much for me to connect without help!
6570903 You won't for long *waggles eyebrows and hits oil button* SLIP N SLIDE BEEESH
6572847 Hmm. well then..
6572919
But what if Sentinel fails and dies? Wouldn't Bucky also end the world if his son dies? Why would Sentinel think that his life is any different, aside from the hero's desire to sacrifce oneself?
6573438
Still a foal, still stupid. Still thinks he's immortal and invincible, like all other young guys.
6573438
You´re right...I mean, where, in Equus, would he learn such behaviour ? Surely not from Bucky, his father, who would never, EVER, do something to harm himself in order to save those he loves.
...
Oh, wait !
6573464
I know that he got this from Bucky. There is no question. (okay, so one of the reasons they get along so well is he was very much like this beforehand, too) I was arguing that this logic is flawed.
It doesn't matter who he got it from, if he was acting "tactically" as you said, he would have considered that Bucky probably doesn't value Sunset more than him, and his own death would drive Bucky over the edge just as much as Sunset's death.
As 6573450 said, he also has some suicidal overconfidence going on, and while this can explain why he made this decision, and make it more understandable and relatable for him as a character, it doesn't make it any more tactical.
6573524 Because he have best chances. He received training specifically for that (even if not enough), he already fought Sombra, and won, he have shadow magic.
Sure, Sombra will chew him and spit the remains...but, in his limited logic, he have more chances then Sunset. Again, foal logic: see only the good things, not mature enough to forsee the bad things. Mature or experienced, not sure wich one.
By the way, it just hit me: there is a REMARKABLE similarity between Bucky first try at battle, on The Isles when he was chewed by the wolves in that patrol and what Sentinel is doing right now !
6573524
Name an occasion where Sentinel has lost in a fight.
He bulldozes everything he touches.
And this has given him broken sense of capability.
6572932
The fools. They forgot to pack a thermos of hot soup. Winter will surely claim them.
6574075
This is not the first time that ponies have battled the cold.
6574087 But that world is violent, so we never know what may happen.
6574075
Packing a can of soup is a good idea.
A can of soup inside of a sock or a pillowcase is just damn useful when you need to deliver a beatdown.
6575456 Animal rights demo a few years ago. Basically ta show what it must be like forr the animals. It hurt and 4 years later I still have the mark but it wasn't as bad as I expected.
6572946
they don't even have a full year left in them
do they?
6575401 In The Chase canon, the episode where Twilight ascended, the "harmony beam" turned her to ashes, and Celestia had to reform her body. Interesting things is, if you watch the scene in the show, you can, actually, see ashes ! So the writer just went a little longer on the interpretation of what happened there.
6576065 There are no exact numbers but, considering former blog posts, I would give Bucky another five years, tops.
6576323
X.
6576335 "X" like in "ten" or "X" like in "right on the target" ?
6576356
Read the recent blog post about news for the chase.
It makes it clear.
