i love the beginning with Firelock....
as for war... it is never good, but it has to be done. at least bucky is now on "bucky" mode of search and destroy and not "celestia" subdue and capture.
when you do war, do it right once not twice because the first time your were too soft, a lesson we learn each day here
ARRRRGH !!!! STOP TRYING TO BEING NICE CELESTIA, you gonna kill someone you love with that kind of atitude !!!!
She seems she is acting like Vietnam War. "Oh, let´s fight the vietcongs will all our forces...except bombers...that would be too harsh, we don´t want that much violence in a war...".

To be fair, there is a valid reason in the background here. Celestia knows about Bucky's non lethal spells... after the Big Boomâ„¢ happened, it was Celestia's intention to have the world see that Bucky can do more than just blow things up. Good intentions and all that.

As in, "The path to Hell is paved with..."?

are another name for more dead bodys in a war.
i like most of Israelis am ex-military, unlike the country i prefer the russian way of doing war... you don't do war, you destroy your enemy, what ever it costs... it isn't "nice" it is "wrong" but it gets the job done and after that no one thinks about doing war again as they know you don't take shit.
the Red Army, the soviet army was feared in the WW2 because they were worse then the germans, when the enemy fears you they will keep their head low
as an extra example: How Russia Responded To The Kidnapping of Four Soviet Diplomats In Beirut In 1985
Hi, new guy here I'm mildly interested in starting into this gargantuan story, but first, two questions: Should I read "The Catch" first? And is this story worth reading for many hours?
6215968
The Catch isn't necessary to start first. It is a separate story that takes place about 200 years before this one.
As for your second question, I'm the writer. I can't answer that. Others might. It really depends on what you like in a story.
6215968 well. like any addiction its bad for you, but you enjoying doing it anyway
6215968
I spent close to three months getting through the first 600 or so chapters, 5 or ten chapters a day. I'm hooked!
Huh, I wonder if somebody is gonna get pissed off at this?
6215968 it's had enough support and enthusiasm that it's become the longest story on the site.
6215968
Its an awesome collection of horse words that updates once or twice a day. It'll take a while ( took me a week back when it had ~300 chapters) but its worth it. Especially if all the other authors on your favorites list decide to take indefinite vacations...

As Kudzu said, Celestia is more than just the supreme general here. She is also the head of state. It's not about trying to be nice. I honestly doubt she has more than basic love-of-life care for the enemy soldiers, as the former Element of Kindness. As I stated before, the moment the public back home starts to falter and fear you, you lose capability and support. Even in a situation as dire as this, because civilians don't realize what fighting for survival really entails - the war is going on elsewhere, they won't understand how serious this is truly until it's right in front of them.
Politics has its place in a war, and sometimes that place is on the battlefield. The decision was wise, but the enemy's capabilities went beyond what was known. That happens, it's not some mistaken fault. One has to plan for what happens AFTER the war, too. Won't do you any good to get back home and everyone wants you out of the big boss chair because they're afraid of you. Then you won't be able to protect them and guide them anymore. In essence, it was a short gamble, and it failed. So now she's turned it over to Bucky to go wild on them. I don't see what the problem is with that. This sort of thing is practically bog standard in any war. Information and image control is -part- of war.

Exactly.

As much as it pains me to say if those damn ruuskies can do one thing right it's fight a war. Maybe not quite to the Israeli level of total victory and the aggressors crying foul in a week but still.
Firelock the unicorn of the forge. Blacksmithing can be seen as a pure act of creation I suppose and powerful. The warfare reminds me of WW1
6215968 I'm an addict and a patron of mr Kudzu. In short this story will make you cry, laugh, angry, scared, D'awwwww and many more emotions you didn't even know you had. If you start this fic you will never want to put it down. I got my start back when it was 200~ chapters or so long. It took me about a week reading every spare minute I had when I was not working or sleeping. Is it worth it? Sure! It helps me get through my day. I look forward to having my fix of the chase, my little escape from the troubles of my day.
Educational moment:
6215968 As my zealous friend has said, yes it is a good read, it is basically an epic adventure story that stretches over a period of time, unlike those short week-long or time skippy ones. It's length is attributed to the Slice of Life sections between each "action" sequence of the main plot, creating advanced character development and day to day life, all the while little bits of foreshadowing present.
If you like the beginning, you should have a blast and not care about slowly catching up. Each chapter is short, 10-20min read. Great for those with a busy life
Oh and no you don't need to read the catch, its more of a prequel with more adventure and less slice of life
IM BACK BEECHES
6217609 The Israelis can't and don't fight total war. For one thing their enemies outnumber them something like fifty to one, and for another their allies are allegic to total war measures. So they tend to fight to the pain, and then make the most of the best state of affairs after the victory. Sometimes that bites them in the ass like the War of Attrition between the Six Days and Yom Kippur and the war with Hizbullah in southern Lebanon, but their options are limited.
But the typical Israeli situation is the end of the Yom Kippur, where they had broken their enemies on the field, and the United Nations comes gliding in to freeze the situation. They were able eventually to make something of it diplomatically, but a total war victory it was not, despite the Israeli forces having Port Said under siege.
7154114 It isn't so much that they can't, but rather that the leadership of Israel cares too much about US continuing as their ally. If the US truly cared about Israel, then they wouldn't place any restriction on what weapons or tactics Israel employs when fighting those nations seeking the destruction of the Israeli nation. Once Israel tells the US to fuck off and mind their own business and actually start fighting with genocidal intentions towards their enemies, then things are going to get serious. The kind of serious which detonates enemy missiles before hitting their intended targets. The kind of serious in which nations are annihilated for seeking the complete obliteration of the Israeli nation. It has and will be quite something to hear news about, no doubt.
