*has not read chapter yet* HOLY CRAP, SIR! You are a machine! You are a MACHINE!!
Oh, well, uh... that happened.
And I thought the way I'm portraying TES Imperials was cutthroat.
You, however, are taking it to an entirely new level.
Don't you have books to be writing, George RR Martin?
Disturbed by last nights? Oh no... now, Fillydelphia... my friends and I are coming for a visit.

Those foals are not going to be pawns in your political schemes any more, and one they are free, your city will burn in holy fire!
Disturbing but enlightening. Still, times change and the current laws of their society don't seem to be warranted like they were back then. Also, I'm getting the feeling Bucky may be leaning more towards Berry romantically than he is with Derpy. Am I misinterpreting that or not? Update again soon!
Being able to read a chapter in the morning, a chapter at lunch, and a chapter on the way home from work is the best.

I am hesitant to reveal this, but here we go. Bucky gets his intellectual rocks off from Berry. He's getting his physical needs looked after from Derpy. Derpy gets physical needs looked after from Berry and Bucky, and Berry gets the intellectual stimulation she needs from Bucky, but also from observing the dynamics between Bucky and Derpy.
Everypony is getting something they want, that they need, and it is a mutually fulfilling relationship for very different reasons for all those involved.
4357543 Oh okay then, fair enough.
Edit: Nest Mother Derpy is adorable by the way.
4357551
In my mind, you wouldn't love an earth pony, or a unicorn, or a pegasus in the same sort of way.
Bucky clearly had physical needs, but he isn't going to let go of them all that easy. Somepony is going to have to wrestle them free. He has intellectual needs, which he is a little freer with, which is why it seems that he is currently closer to Berry, but that is only in spoken words. Berry is merely acknowledging out loud what is already taking place.
Derpy remains constant if you pay attention. He affections are constant and physical with very little verbal acknowledgement other than the spoken words that Bucky keeps looking after her foals, which is her way of summing up her feelings about the situation. Think about the mama bird bits, here and earlier, and then place things together in context. Think about Derpy sitting beside the bathtub, resting in the bed covering Bucky, all those mentions. That is how Derpy communicates her growing love and affection. It is a very difficult thing to communicate for me, and I worry constantly that I am going to fail or botch things, and people will think that Derpy is a third wheel. Derpy's affections are shown almost entirely through actions, not fancy dialogue. They are subtle, but powerful statements.
When the time comes, Derpy is going to be the one to destroy Bucky's V-card
4357567
As Sparkler would say, "hawt". I have noticed how much focus Derpy puts in her physical affections and her adoration for Bucky protecting the foals. I was just less certain on how Bucky himself regarded her. He obviously has affection and attraction for her and Berry both, but as you said he's just so much more verbose with Berry I thought that was indicative of who he was going to choose to be with if he couldn't come to terms with the herd family structure. That being said, I'm glad they all look to be okay with the arrangement thus far.
4357586
Also of note, look how many much pegasus Bucky is starting to speak.
He can look at Derpy now and understand what is being communicated. He's paying attention. He's understanding what used to be miscommunications.
You know, there's an OC floating somewhere around here called Sweet Cheeks. He's of the very....fabulous persuasion.
*has now read chapter* ... *gulp*
good story deep but still comprehensive might need a little more news on buckys healing process and maybe a little more in depth about horn, related injuries that would be cool, and finally: do pegasi even lay eggs?
It is a bit odd to see this cautious from derpy because she looks more like an animal (yeah i know she is one), than a actually more bright being.
I think it woulld be funny if Lyra oor BonBon actually question this cautious, but maybe they know about it.
I like Derpy right now a bit more than i already do. At some point i don´t understand why she protects him from actually nothing. I mean the threat was the spell right? Well ok a bit is maybe normal about the protection, but i don´t know why she is going to obsess about the nesting. It is maybe a compulsion from being a pegasus?
Now she named him egg it is just cute
I want to say that the issue could've been resolved by forcing monogamy only among the nobility... but I get the feeling that class and tribe were strongly correlated at the time. Harshly punishing the first poisoner could've discouraged others... but she probably covered her tracks very carefully. As noted, there were no good answers at the time, so Celestia had to try and pick the least evil. The only alternative I can think of is casting the eye of suspicion on the other mares in a herd when one's foal dies... and that incentivizes monogamy to avoid such suspicion.
As for the memory modification, I'm with Luna. Unsettling, but necessary.
And the history behind Derpy's family name was both unexpected and quite clever. Well done, there.
Looking forward to more. Especially since I can recognize the foreshadowing in this chapter, based on that one blog post. All's fair...
*gets home from a long day at work, sees three new chapters*
....
KUDZU, I LOVE YOU. This story has its claws in me, and to see you updating it so quickly makes me jump with joy.
So, once again, it was all the nobility's fault.
Slight logical problem.
Why are foals - including thunderlanes - in orphanages, unloved, when the reason for their foalnapping is to get fillydelphias mares foals?
Perhaps placed in abusive homes?
4443366
That was Luna's speciality remember? And she kinda was on the moon at this time :/
4966819
We can take that to mean she allowed Luna to do so - by ordering it done, it becomes her fault and burden. Weren't you one of the ones who was all against it in the first place? Then said she should have done it more?
That was overly depressing, I am sick and disgusted by this. This is a first for me, I can handle the foal crap from To Dance in Shadow, but mothers murdering other mothers, their foals and their own; convincing and forcing stallions to do the same. I just don't know how to act upon this, I need some time off from this. A few days maybe, maybe not.

You've got to be kidding me. That kind of barbarism has been happening since the dawn of mankind. The amount of atrocity and bloodshed that runs down the river that is humanity could fill a million swimming pools, and still overflow in every regard.
That's just life kiddo. You wouldn't have survived a war in the middle ages my friend.
But then again, this is coming from someone who has watched videos of people killing themselves, and reacted without and semblance of empathy and emotion.
Low and behold
1. Lo.
And thus problems eventually flow down river affecting everyone. It could be wrong to say that it started from the 'source' since there is no definite source in this case but you could probably say it just started off from one part and eventually it affected the others. History passes, lives move on and definitions change. One has to wonder how much our own history changed and how much it will stay intact considering all these retellings and so on.
my
ballsegg is sleeping"egg"
What, pegasi lay eggs now?
And I'm assuming just living with your "not husband" still has other problems?
There are rarely any nobility in stories I like, save for ones like Fancy Pants :P
Nice job man, jeebus that story behind Fillydelphia.. wow...
Nice job.
So is this the way The Catch is going to end then, with herd marriages abolished?
I asked this once before but: are you saying that there's an unequal birth rate; leading to there being far more mares than stallions?
6786744
When the Catch happens, herd marriages are already verboten.
Yes, Chase Verse birth rates mimic real horses and equines. Females are far more common than males by a large number. Real world biology at work.
6786755
Are you sure there's a disparity in real life? I studied horses for about 4 years, including breeding them, and I never heard that, and I just did several google searches and didn't find anything.
In a wild herd there will be far more mares and stallions, but that's because the males kill each other and drive each other off to keep the mares, who only want to breed with the strongest males. (Similar to lions and many other creatures.)
For fiction purposes only however, this does change a lot. How much is the disparity exactly? Can you estimate?
P.S.
Was adorable btw.
Could leave out the 'to' or 'to be happy'?
I like the sleeping egg analogy.

Brilliant... Brilliant, brilliant, BRILLIANT
the more the story goes the more it gets interesting
creating an advanced, and in some ways relate-able problem in the social norm
and even going as far as to bring up a social standing that is an issue in our world to top it off
everything you setup and the way you do it just feels like gold
It's still weird how unrefined this is. Like... I know why it's unrefined compared to the weed world, and it's still not crazy enough to get me to stop, but it's like reading Terry Pratchet's Discworld. I'm still only like six books in in that series, but I could see the improvement from book to book. It's the reverse here, but I am kinda reading the precursor second, and it's like the awkward gangly teenager that grows into the weed world. I can see the things you kept and the questionable mistakes you tossed or toned down or spun differently or learned to pace, because -- as I'm sure you know by now -- the awkward and uncomfortable become the fascinating and engaging with a proper spin and pacing.
But yeah, The Chase is weird.
*snerk* hehehe!
hmmmmz...that explains alot.
