........ okay starting to have a hard time buying that the regal sisters would have done so little as to send some ill equipped troops to here. it is close to being a humanitarian crisis here and the wolves need a veyr heavy hoof against them. far more than what has been given. celestia owuld have probably realized that.
or, at least, begin to realize that now. perhaps the apperance of a regal sisters and a lot of dead wolves would send a message.
functional replacement eye? lasers, i am expecting lasers

You actually think the solar guard would fare better than those who are well practiced?
You missed the earlier chapter I guess where it was admitted that the solar guard were mostly ceremonial.
Celestia did send help. One of her students. Whom she believes in.
thanks for the update!!
Hmm, Bucky, Prince of the Isles. Wonder how the Princesses would deal with that if Keg Smasher steps down and puts him and his stormy queen in charge.
I'm not going to do a long review today. I could, but I feel that it wouldn't be prudent to do so. Instead i'm going to say that I enjoyed the chapter. I love what's going on and that Bucky is getting to perform his destiny. I can see a more of Sombra in him now. You know, I've always believed that before he became a terrible tyrant Sombra was in fact a kind pony. neurotic and withdrawn sure, but kind. I think it was looking into the abyss that drove him over the edge. Bucky seems to be able to look into the Abyss and not fall in. He's still a kind soul, but he's learned to be hardened when needed.
4551941 that would work in scenarios like Sombra, Discord, and similar, where the threat was individual entities. here it is a nation of seeingly cannibalistic canines (in the sense they are sapient eating sapient), and one individual will not tilt the odds. you need a lot more soldiers... and it is unlikely celestia would simply have nothign but ceremonial troops all things considered. if troops she might use to make sure equestria is defend from without, thus why ceremonial at most troops within.
hell she could have luna pay the wolves avisit and give them an idea of what power equestria really has. it is her duty to fight monsters every night...... also mean the night guard is experience in combat and especially against things with claws and teeth.
not saying that, oh this was a horribly executed idea compeltely. could be that celestia was simply feeling out the situation. but as the threat is greater than it first appeared, she needs to escalate. or at least make the wolves afraid.
4551993
Luna is a prisoner in Ponyville and cannot leave. She will not leave the captured guard. At least, that is the stated reason. The real reasons are obvious.
Celestia is back at home keeping riots from happening. Keg Smasher offered to send troops to her. Think about that for a moment.
Right now, you don't know what is happening in Canterlot, and it is intentional. You as the reader are just as cut off as Bucky and his herd.
Canterlot is going to be a very different city when they return
4552038 .......... kay for one thing, how would they keep her captive, along with the guards? we are talking about keeping something that one could argue is as powerful as a dragon, if not more so, hsotage and her not somehow rescuing those captured............... definitely lost in these events now.
and with canterlot, how would they change it? either it would become more restrictive or they somehow overthrew a demigod when she wields ACTUAL power over political power. as in if someone tried to throw a coup or attack her, she would literally beat the shit out of them.
4552060
The guard does not want to leave. Luna wants to stay and keep an eye on Twilight, guiding her, and Luna is protecting what her sister holds most dear.
Celestia's big problem right now isn't ponies overthrowing her. Nope. Your thinking is too narrow.
4552076 unless it is a small squad of dragons it is hard to think of anythign overthrowing her. even with chrysalis victory it was largely a fluke and luck. hell part of it WAS that chrysalis did not realize she was actually stronger than her. if celestia knew she would have played the defensive and let chrysalis waste her power boost.
can't think of anything trying to overthrow her that the ponies wouldn't fight against themselves. and even if there is something i am overlooking, i highly doubt that canterlot would survive such a situation. unless you mean that it being not the same is that it fell off the mountain after a battle between demigods that is.
4552107
STOP THINKING ABOUT CELESTIA!
I just told you your thinking is too narrow... She is in no danger of being overthrown. You think the other soft squishy ponies around her are immortal?
4552060 she volunteered to be prisoner
4552122 considering the ponies thrive in a world with sapient thre headed predators, dinosaur sized beasts, wolves made of wood and crocodiles made of stone, they are probably not that soft and squishy.
regardless, can't understand what you are talking about. guess i will have to see and judge then.
So, love, mad science, and the continuing renaissance of the Shetland Isles. I have to say that I'm very proud of Rising Star. He's grown a lot over the course of this story.
Bucky, meanwhile, is walking a dangerous road. Those close to him will keep him from going too far, so long as he lets them. I look forward to more, especially how brewing beer with magic will lead to transgressing against the natural order for the greater good.
4552173
I am hinting at something I don't want to actually spoil, but if you sit down and think about it, it becomes PAINFULLY OBVIOUS.
What usually happens when the highest court in a nation suddenly falls and is rendered useless, and the laws holding that country together are essentially rendered null and void?
4552182 problem with that is that they have a unifying singular being who will survive such an incident. if there is ANY advantage of a monarch or a diarchy, the individual or individuals in charge surviving is advantageous.
though it would not prevent chaos from reigning for a time............
Is there a point in the forseeable future where things will settle down, and the story can go back to being adorable fluff? At least for a little while?
I aspire to be a writer myself, and I know I can't ask you to make Bucky a relatable, awkward goof again after he's dealt with his revenge plan--that would destroy his character development, or at least upset it--but as you are writing him here, with his anger and purpose... he's coming across as fairly one-dimensional, and that makes me sad.
Derpy is coming dangerously close to the forbidden craft of baby armor. She's on the right track, but you need something to tie them to you with.
4552363
He will level out. Right now, he's kinda having some problems.
Give him a few more chapters to have his breakthrough.
4552377 Alright then. I'm satisfied.
4552384
He just lost an eye. Stuff keeps dying. He feels impotent and powerless to make things change. Imagine if you were a unicorn used to making things change on a whim, you get your way most of your life, you are wealthy and privileged, and you never run into serious failure.
Now, imagine you ran into serious failure and it cost you an eye. First time in your life that you felt the serious sting of failure, and it cost you an eye. Not to mention the lives of those lost that night.
What do you think that would do to someone?
Suddenly, you'd have a pretty serious inferiority complex and the need to prove yourself. Like it or not, even with all of his noble words and intentions, Bucky is still very much a spoiled noble. He just fell out of his ivory tower and hit the ground hard. The only other pony he's ever remotely trusted in his life was Celestia, and she can't be reached. Bucky is slowly realising that he is carrying the weight of the entire isles upon his shoulders. He's doing the right things though. Dinky is his anchor point. There is a reason why he used her as his ground. Instead of bottling everything up, we see him talking to Berry very openly. He isn't falling back on his old neurotic habits. He is using his pain and his anger as motivators.
Contrary to popular belief, anger is not a negative emotion. It is actually a neutral emotion, even though there are schools of thought that claim otherwise. Anger isn't inherently wrong, it is what you do with it. Sure, some angry teenager could go out and shoot up his school, but what of Martin Luther King and his anger? He used it to drive himself towards greatness.
What we do with our anger defines who and what we are. Rather than let his anger sink in and poison him like most unicorns from his cultural and social background would do, he is going to focus it outwards and use it to motivate himself towards greatness. Right now, he is befuddled and confused. Falling out of the ivory tower hurt. He was cocky, he was brash, and he put too much faith in his abilities because he has never been truly tested.
He just got handed his first "F" and now he's experiencing some difficulties. His worldview has to change and he has to realise how imperfect he is. That's tough. Even for a healthy mind. But he isn't healthy. He is going to spend the rest of his life suffering suvivor's guilt. He is going to understand the cost of failure and it is going to make him a better pony. And maybe a better teacher someday. Because he is going to know how that first failure can take the wind out of your sails.
4552450 I wasn't saying I didn't understand why he was acting like that, I was just saying that he wasn't being interesting as a character and asking if that would change.
But as I said: I am satisfied.
Last chapter I wanted him to have a bionic eye, then today talking with my Bonnie she suggested he crystal for his eye and I thought some sort of scrying crystal then he can see while he is seeing. Then I read the chapter and seeing Berry make the suggestion... it was a weird feeling. I kind of wanted him to take her despite the pain, but I'm almost sure that without some major magical pain suppression he wouldn't be able to finish. Hmmm,... Bucky think you can do something about that?

Also keep in mind that if the agreements are even half as bad as the ones that happened to the real life Isles, then the only troops allowed to be sent, 'for an unbiased guard' would be the personal troops of House Avarice and its immediate cronies.
And besides, Celestia is going to be busy for a little while getting to finally cut loose on the little shs in Canterlot that are probably trying (and failing miserably) to overthrow her with 'cunning' political maneuvering and 'subtle' threats and 'keen tactical minds' leading 'precise surgical strikes' against Celstia's 'obvious and glaring weaknesses'. And Celestia laughs as a thousand years of outmaneuvering rather dim nobles finally gets to be dusted off and put into play.
So he IS getting a cyborg eye(sorta)!
I really like the idea of Derpy The Foal Tamer you have going, the happy duck momma(this will stick, no matter what you do, after you described her swimming ) herding her ducklings.
4553668
Even if he could deal with the pain, he wouldn't. Rules. No hiding sex with a single partner. Must be announced first. This prevents any jealousy from taking place.
4555326
Oh I know, I ment later. Why waste such magic when it's only Berry. The idea was just that sometimes as a male the pleasure of your mates takes prescient over your own well being.
Wow, you've been busy. I take some time off for finals and moving, and you put up 12 chapters. This is going to take me a while to read.
It is great to see Rising stand up for himself, and for Sparkler to stand up for him as well. It was getting a painful to watch him fold to everyone else pretty much whenever he was pushed around. Even if he still did that after his "moment of courage."
4556576
Don't forget the kelpie information post.
4556584
I saw that, I'll read it when I'm all caught up, wish well probably be tomorrow.
Yay! Derpy is going to be a Mommy again!
The ends justify the means.
Bad things will happen indeed.
"Oranged tongue?" Ranged maybe?
Another twenty chapters in one day. I need something to do.
If neither the means nor end is justified, it's not justified.
If I burn down an orphanage to draw attention of the Angel of Purity so (s)he could see how corrupt humans are and fix that, does that justify my actions? Hell no.
Five adult eyes focused on him.Two were Berry’s
“Yes,”answered Bucky
Both just need an extra spacing.
Oh that naughty cadence, what hath thou done?
And Star did have a moment of stupidity
Man I could never get into these debates down below, I would suck at them :|
Awesome job dude, awesome job!
That scene with Derpy and all of the foals... jeebus, me heart can't take that much daww.
4552450 Maybe Dinky could replace his eye with a multifacet bee eye?
i really feel the group after fixing every thing stays there and help improve the island
I can see where Keg Smasher got his name...
Wish I wasn't spoiled about Derpy's future foals.
