Which is why I did my research on donkeys because I wanted a believable character. As a nanny, she's going to be a damn good one. Why else would pegasi trust their young to her?
You did good
5098452 There will come a day when I am not surprised to find you've done your research, but today is not this day.
The Diamond scene was good. She seems like she's trying really hard not to be the brat she used to be, fighting as much as she can to not fall back on her old ways.
Celestia did something to Rising's memory?
Did Celestia make Rising (and Zecora) forget that he's just fathered a group of pyrodryads? Or did something else happen?
5098493
5098492
What do you think happened?
What are the implications here?
5098485
5098478
**tentative sigh of relief**
Wait, other people could still hate it...
5098478
I concur
Diamond has been seeing a lot of action lately, hasn't she?
5098627
What do you mean?
In The Chase?
5098644
In general.
5098645
I dunno, there has always been stories about her.
Good, bad, and otherwise.
I intend to give her some meaning and actually have her life fit her cutie mark.
Ok, so Celestia's daughter (as Spike is Twilight's Son) had finally found a mate (of sorts). Celestia must protect her own, it was going to be bad either way. As much as I want to rage at Celestia here... she is right. Bucky has no right to be indignant here. Were it his foal he would do the same.
DD (DT) Im really loving her in this. Sentinel is the best pony to teach her what true nobility is. The true path her Cutiemark is destined for. A true Noble is a servant not one to be served. Her past gives her a great place to start because her fight to redemption will be her proving ground. She, like Moonbow will have to endure her own gauntlet. I really believe she was made for this pair. A Mother, her Knightly Prince and their Princess.
5098651
Good luck to us both then.
5098659
And that is kinda what I was trying to say (more or less) without actually saying it directly. Thankfully, people can and do read between the lines. **faints**
We also begin to see the rift between Celestia and Bucky. It's been there for a while, but the crack is now noticeable.
5098539 Well, other people can go fuck themselves
5098697
with the emoticon it looks like scootaloo is cussing those people out.
betting people are gonna ship celestia and zecora for the lols.
so celestia planted the tree. no it doesn't piss me off cause obviously she would not plant it for a sinister reason, and hasn't. still something went very wrong here, and it further makes me wonder why she would leave it as it is if something went very wrong.
everyone can make mistakes, and celestia herself has admitted to have made so many of them.
though i do have one other issue to be honest. the tree creates some kind of influence to the everfree, right? then why didn't something in the forest get agitated when it was planted? the tree is extremely alien, a plant of the fire element; played enough pokemon to understand why there is no fire grass combination. seems to me something would get its panties in a twist when it was planted and would want to be rid of it.
5098659
And with the above quotes selected for illustration and the conclusion reached by one very astute reader, I wanted to take a moment and simply breathe a sigh of relief. A lot of people have criticised that I have made The Chase too hard to understand. While there is some truth to this, I have made certain parts intentionally difficult to comprehend because I want readers to work for it. Some readers clearly do understand complex layered subtlety and undertones, that, while difficult, are not impossible to figure out.
And it is little moments like this that are the reason I keep writing, keep tapping away on my keyboard, that makes all of my hard work worth it.
So thanks.
5098691
I love the way you portray Celestia, I actually Identify with this version of Celestia the most. I too see my self in the light of the eternal optimist who believes in the good of the universe. Who has to play the villain at times manipulating conflict so everyone becomes better. Who blames themselves for every failure, knowing what she did wrong but failed to correct the problem, then over compensates the next time. And at the end when the world has turned against her she will smile and say that shes so proud that her ponies have outgrown her.
Hmm...So Celestia is constantly trying to arrange things for the best outcome while covering as many bases as possible. She knows she can't be certain of success, but she believes in the ponies she's trying to nudge in the direction she wants to go. Bucky did the same thing with Sparkler and Star and even to Dinky to some degree.
Yeah, he can be mad, but he shouldn't allow hypocrisy cloud the larger picture. He should know of all
peopleponies change is often painful. As to what Celestia is doing with Zecora? I would bet the clues are scattered somewhere in this current arc, but I haven't the foggiest what they are. My mind just doesn't work that way.
5098739
I admit, I'm still confused. If Celestia messed with Rising Star's memory, why was that necessary? I assume she wanted to make sure that the tree's existence, and its location, did not become too public. Maybe she expected some sort of retaliation? The thing is, I don't see anyone in Rising's herd as being vindictive enough to do any lasting damage to the tree. Yes, maybe the pyrodryad would get a number of wing slaps, but I think physical damage would be a bit much.
Or maybe this is Celestia being overprotective again. Would this count as assault, mental assault, if there were still laws? If Rising Star was already elected, could this have been viewed as an attack on a public figure? Even if not, if it got out that Celestia (and presumably Luna, and then presumably Twilight) has done this before, that could spark a whole new wave of civil unrest and distrust.
On a different note, the conversation Bucky had with Celestia when she first arrived: If Bucky had ascended, then what Celestia just did probably would've generated enough hate to get things moving a lot faster.
5098739 Personally, this is one of the reasons I love this story. You don't just put it out there. I frequently find myself reading the same line for 20 minutes trying to find out what it means. I know who the other fey is now because I sat there and read the same chapters. I know the reason behind Celestia's actions. I delight in the background tale of Sombra and I'm ready to see what becomes of Bucky's alicorn potential because I know you're not done with that yet. I know all of the answers will be revealed at the end, but I want to be able to say 'I knew it!' when it is. So you keep on writing Kudzu and don't simplify anything.
5098845
Well, she just edited Rising Stars mind after paying a visit to Zecora.
Zecora, who witnessed what had taken place and Zecora, who knows that Rising Star just fathered a whole bunch of offspring. (potentially, acorns are fertile now)
So what do you think Celestia was doing at Zecora's hut?
I guess the situation makes me uncomfortable because the Pyrodryad is seemingly getting off without any repercussions (so far) whatsoever while Celestia is doing something Rising and Zecora because of her "daughter's" actions.
5098865
Rising Star: Well, I ate an acorn and I might have fathered a few hundred to possibly a few thousand children when I kissed a pyrodryad.
Wives: We hate you!
Rising Star: Well, I ate an acorn
and I might have fathered a few hundred to possibly a few thousand children when I kissed a pyrodryad.Wives: YOU DUNDERHEAD! That acorn was your undoing!
5098845
If I remember correctly, Bucky did not elevate (if that's the right word) Rising, Sparkler, and Dinky without their consent. You could argue that they (that is, Rising, Sparkler, and Dinky) didn't really have a choice, but Bucky at least laid things out, and explained what he wanted to do, and got their approval before doing anything.
Celestia and Luna have, several times so far (in this story), made changes to the memory of ponies, all without their concent.
Edit: Found it. Chapter 96, and the chapters leading up to 96. There was a fair amount of time spent as the various unicorns made their decisions. I also found this quote from Lyra:
5098878
She was just dreaming of things that made her happy.
On a lighter note, two things:
First, I am disappointed that there hasn't been any talk of growing a hedge maze, or at least a proper hedge. I mean, how can you call Bucky a proper hedge wizard without at least one hedge?
It would be funnier if, when seen from above, the hedge maze looked like two ponies doing it.
Also, I wonder if Cheerilee has recovered yet from reading how Ripple answered her mathematics word problems, with all the body parts.
5098930
Bucky is now an archmage, at least in terms of type.
Hedge wizard is actually something of an insult. It means a wizard who works in the boonies. A backwoods wizard. It was funny because Bucky was on an island in the middle of one of the most uncivilised places ever and it was self deprecating humour that made a statement about his situation.
He's really lucky that Lyra did not electrocute him for calling her a hedge wizard.
Bucky is shockingly vulnerable to lightning.
5098951
I was thinking of Chapter 96, not Chapter 95.
Besides, if someone did call Bucky a hedge wizard, I could see him responding by going out and growing a nice, big, perverted, hedge maze as a form a retaliation.
5098870 Either she was collecting the acorns from Zecora (as our favorite shaman was well aware of the
fae...fay...fae...dammit) or she was getting a report from Zecora as to why she allowed him to eat the acorn (and erasing her memory of him doing it...cause letting demons loose on the world is scary).5098891 Well, even if he did do it with their consent, it doesn't mean he should have. In a lot of ways, he was delving into the unkown because elevating them could have been potentially hazardous to their health...and their mental state of mind.
Bucky is not a very subtle pony. He uses a sledgehammer to kill a fly. Celestia likes to trim as she goes, leaving no trace she was ever there. That's one of the major differences between the two.
5098886
It took me a while to find the chapter where they all got married (it's Chapter 69). I just re-read it, and looking at how everyone acted, I have to ask: Is that really how Rising Star's wives would react? I would first expect a lot of confusion, and a fair number of wing slaps for stupidity.
5099011
Has Celestia read that chapter I wonder... Might be helpful.
5098979
I agree that Bucky did not know that elevating them could cause them to suffer medical issues later, but Bucky did know that he would be able to successfully elevate them.
Unless Celestia thought she could get away with it (which I guess she did), then she took a really big risk (a stupid risk?) by doing what she did in Bucky's home. She could've just popped in, grabbed Rising Star, teleported both of them to Zecora's, and done the deed there. "Oh, I'm just here to grab Rising Star. Since both he and Zecora were in the forest, I want to talk to both of them at once."
5098962
Yes something every school needs... A garden with pornagraphic depictions of the headmaster and his wives.
Ok dear wife let us see the school our children here will be atending.
...
Umm Darling husband is that topiary depicting what I think it is?
Daddy what is that stallion doing on top that mare?
Look dad he's riding that mare like you ride Mommy!
Oh my children don't look at that it seems some rascal students have defaced the school garden.
...
See there's the gardener now, excuse me. What happend here?
Oh the rutting maze? The head masters philosophy is there are only one thing more important than knowledge and that family. And the greatest thing in life is making more family. So this garden is ment to illustrate this point for all to see. If you go to the head masters office and look down you'll see the maze depicts the headmaster and his three wives all enjoying one another. It's quite the sight.
...
...
Umm... guess what kids you'll be attending school in Canterlot!
Awwww...
5098979
Bucky has all the subtlety of a whore's fart in church.
5099022
Wait, you were channeling Celestia? I thought you were saying "here's what I would have written if Celestia had not altered Rising Star's memories."
5099060
I'm lost now. What?
5099056
The Rutting Maze! LOLOL I love it! That's gonna have me laughing during my walk tonight.
Anyway, my response:
5099065
(I don't know if the chapter link is gonna show up right...)
In 5098886 (it's comment #27 on this chapter), the two scenarios that you gave (what Rising says, and what his wives say), I took your post as you saying "Here's how Rising's Wives would react if they heard the whole story, vs. how they would react if they heard the edited story." I then responded, because I didn't think Rising's wives would react with such hatred if they got the whole story.
I hope that helps clear things up!
...wow.
While there have been a few points I apparently freaked out in a discussion over her decisions regarding Bucky's issue, I still understood a lot of her decisions till now were forced by a bad situation she was trying to make the best of. I understand that she was hurt by the fact that a student she witnessed suffering and came to care so much for judging her on her actions. But that line... Pretty much every decision he made was an alternative to watching his family suffer and die but still left him worrying how much of himself he lost. One can hardly call his past actions something he simply chose. Now to hear that coming from the pony who, when it comes down to it, was the closest thing he had to a mother figure all but saying he was a monster? That's gotta hit hard.
This isn't going to cause a major rift between them is it?
Don't get me wrong. Awesome work as usual but everything ending at that line kind of winded me. You really don't pull your punches on those emotional impacts do you? I'm just hoping you have an equally touching reconciliation between these two,
Also, could this having anything to do with earlier discussions about how Ice and Fire elemental fae/fey, still get those mixed somethimes, clashing personality wise?
5099094
Celestia saved him the trouble of having to explain.
5099098
He hurt her deeply just a moment before and traded his mother's soul while standing next to Celestia. Harsh reality is setting in.
5099070
Hahaha... yes at least you know their education will be thorough.
Ink Sketch what are you drawing!
S..sorry miss Cheerilee I.. I couldn't help my self.
Is this a picture of me? Being bent over my desk by Officer Big Mac? A..and being rutted like the bad bad filly I am?
Yyy..yes?
Well the angles all wrong, your proportions are all wrong, and your furry style needs work. I'm assigning you homework I want this full color, on a twelve by twelve high gloss.
But miss this is equish class.
Well then next time maybe you won't doodle in class.
5097555
Yep! She reacted reasonably, no question.
But the end result was that the pyrodryad preyed on Rising Stars ignorance, and then everyone told him he was stupid for being able to fall for it. I was using the fact that Zecora did not think this was potentially dangerous as an example as why it is unreasonable to blame Rising for this, not as a method to crucify Zecora.
5099196 when something preys on the ignorant, especially children, then they are something that has to be dealt with in some manner. especially when rising star was not exactly barging in threatening her.
rising star had no reason to think that it would try to harm him if he did not try to harm it first........... a friendly dog suddenly biting can be forgiven, as it is likely the dog was dealing with something or was surprised. even still it has to be disciplined in order to discourage the biting.
the dryad does not have the excuse of instinct controlling her actions. her behavior was far to clever and manipulative for her to be driven by impulses.
5099117
Yes, when man/ponies first gathered in groups to form societies there really was really only one rule. The strong make the rules. As long as everyone got along and agreed then laws could be made and followed. In the case of the Unicorn nobles they drew their power from society made laws to favor them. So when the fact the nobles did not treat other ponies with honesty, kindness, or generosity this led to the loss of loyalty of the society that gave them power. This aloud a revolution to happend, and rules changed.
So a being unaware of your personal situation is suppose to honor your beliefs? How is she suppose to know what rules mortals hold themselves to in any given age. We change them every few decades. It's like a woman being pissed at a man for not knowing big asses are in fassion.
