Harper, if the big white pony makes you cry, you could give her a little zap!
Well that escalated quickly
5274011
Um, it was Twilight that made Harper cry.
Drop the 'and'
Wait... The Fates... Clover being 'alive'... Celestia sulking in the sun...
memeshappen.com/media/created/kjhvnz.jpg
For fuck sake, Twilight just got married! This is NOT how she is supposed to spend her honeymoon! She should be below decks, getting her mind bucked senseless by Dash and Flash!
5274012
Yes... yes it did.
why do i feel like something is gonna go wrong...
And Twilight called her on it! I raise my hands in joy!
'Cadance's'?
So, if you can transfer the soul and essence of a pony into a crystal, you can use essence and talents? Makes me think of how the Crystal Heart was able to turn everyone around into crystal ponies and how crystal ponies work in your verse.
Hating Celestia more and more in this story. From show cannon, we see that she is wise and powerful. She usually hides in the background and gets others to take care of the bad stuff outta complete faith that they can do it.
5274076
Then you have missed something vital.
Celestia is the victim in this story... she is quite literally the damsel in distress.
I mean, in every great story, somebody has to rescue a princess.
I want to see Rainbow get some input on royal decisions now that she's royal by right of marriage. It would be hilarious
Random polititian: "We have national budget issues and 40% of the population refuses to pay taxes due to recent decisions by Celestia!"
Rainbowdash: "well, I'm awesome so if they think I'm the one that gets tribute, they'll pay"
Two weeks later, 100% taxes paid
oh woe is Celestia the unpopular.
5274080
Obsidian has a point, Kudzu. We've seen/heard of her greatness uniquely maybe all of two-three times. Meanwhile we keep seeing everything from the perspective of shallow ponies who only understand their own transient wants and needs, and these blind mortals somehow keep showing her up. Half of the vocal readership seems to hate her due to this. I cautioned this a long time ago when I started reading. Regardless of the truth, Celestia's essentially being played as the villain-at-home, and this lot here keeps whinging on and crowing whenever she's shown to be beaten down.
She's not defending herself, she's not showing any of her wisdom - only desperation. Everyone keeps relying on Luna, and Celestia is the one they more or less treat like... well, we see what exactly in this chapter. Twilight was -supposed- to be considering what the Fates told her. Instead she just comes right out and tells Celestia she's wrong about everything in her many thousands of years of life. That everything she was focused on, everything that makes sense in more lifetimes than Twilight could possibly ever understand, is all lies and betrayal. And with the way the story seems to be going, with everyone but Celestia being right, Twilight will also be correct about this.
Really hoping you manage to salvage her character soon, because she's essentially been played out as emotionally oversensitive, vulnerable, and weak, her decisions are all doubted and she hasn't even really made any lately, she's been counted 'wrong' far too often in such a short span of time as this story covers. As much as I understand the whys behind all of this, and I do - it doesn't change the fact that your characterization of Celestia is suffering horribly. Meanwhile Luna can pretty much do no wrong, still, and is the bastion of defense against Celestia's supposed but impotent rage. She no longer appears to be the wise ruler who kept the world's nations from tearing everything apart and becoming too dangerous to one another through diplomacy and cleverness, or force when required. Someone who has done so well for so long should not be tripping up this badly and this often. Where is her poise? Her steadfast determination to do right, no matter what sacrifices must be made? Her legendary composure? She's -sulking in the sun- because what's effectively an alicorn infant who's not even thirty years old, scolded her. If it continues like this, she won't even be recognizable as Celestia if you painted it in glowing orange letters at the top of every scene she appears in. Plus, again, Luna is still pretty much infallible - yet Celestia can do nothing but wrong.
She -is- the victim, but the way your readers are seeing her, what's being translated to them, how you are carrying across in the tone of the story, is that she's essentially the not-evil bad guy with a load of punishments on hand who doesn't get anything right, yet mortals like Bucky and Twilight seem to have more confidence and comprehension than she does. This may not be the case, and I know it's not, but this is what you are ending up giving your readers.
5274080 Cause she thinks her parent is all glory and wants to be loved and accepted like a good ruler, instead of feared.
She is the "damsel in distress", which is why I dislike her in this story, I see her as strong, wise and a benevolent ruler, not an emotional wreck with daddy issues.
5274147
You are right, she is sensitive and emotional. But it's understandable. The being she figured her daughter, the one she trusted after the Shimmer-dilemma, is throwing all that right into her face. How would you feel after trying hard and having to take nothing but blame?
She had to have confidence all those centuries. She is the figurehead of Equestria, she was it even before Luna turned into Nightmare Moon. And she wasn't doing well, she was just holding things together to the bare necessities. OK, she was doing well with that, but you know what I mean. She's tired, her nerves are bare, she had to take so much, and now, with new alicorns, new sisters, it shows. She's slowly giving away responsibilities she had to take because no one else was there.
It's like with Dashie, breaking down after so much pain and suffering. But not over the course of a few months, but a millenium.
And I think much of the hate comes from her secretiveness. But again, there weren't many immortal minds to talk to. Our mortal minds defy us. Maybe the talk with Clover will resolve something.
I can't say I love Celestia in this, but I think that is the point. In fact, I pity her more than I like her. The more you know about a ruler and his/her closet, decisions that had to be made, long term goals and such, the more you start being judgy and start to don't like him. Her current state is believable. It is due everything that happened, she tries her best. She has faith in the Omnicorn as Twi had faith in Tia, that he has all the answers and that he is guiding her towards a good future, she doesn't know the dirty details of world extinction.
5274189
Twilight wanted to be love by her teacher/parent, too. And she slowly learns that agreeing to Tia isn't everything. But Tia had no one to talk to, except for the Omnicorn and Clover, for one thousand years.
And for one thousand years, she had to be the shining sun and stars of Equestria, one had to appear trustful, wise and all powerful. Almost no one to rely on other than those mentioned above.
Well, did not see that little revelation coming!
5274291
I have such devoted fans.
5274147
My reply
5274289 I was expecting Clover to come into the story somewhere, Trixie was mentioned close the beginning and was used as a character later, Sunset shimmer was mentioned the same chapter and Bucky will be going to see her, as told by The Fates. Clover was mentioned close to the beginning as well. You just have to pay attention to the way Kudzu says stuff. Like I said when he used Pinkie's depressive side and now she is still in that state.
5274341
Somebody is observant...
5274258
Until kudzu officially names the alicorn creator god entity, this is how I will refer to that character from here on out.
Clover the Clever trapped forever in a crystal. I actually had an edge of an idea about such a possibility. Twilight should definitely meet her, Bucky... well... it will be memorable I'm sure.
5274348 Of course I am. My IQ is 173. And I love reading. But I try not to ruin an authors reveals. Those little surprises are always fun to read about in the comments. I will admit that several things have caught me off guard with this story though. You are good at hiding details.
5274378
Anything in particular that was obvious in hindsight?
........ okay, i gotta question that idea. making it that it is only because of clover kinda puts big ass question marks on everything that has ever happened, even with bucky here.
not to mention the 'luck' thing makes no sense to me. that is basically manipulating reality itself. and of course it kinda.......... yeah it would make no sense that she would be abducted by sombra if she had the power of luck on her side.
i did not question when it was brought up before because i did not think they literally meant she altered reality to get what she wanted. not to mention how could she possibly do that with the fates existing? she would have to seize fate out of their control, if even for a moment.
this si especially confusing after you have implied there is no way to subvert fate. and here is something that can.
5274391 Rainbow marrying Flash and Twilight. After she said that she is too awesome to marry just one pony.
Bucky's marriage to Belisama. After after Platinum said he could marry a Griffon.
5274394
Sombra, have you come to your senses?
Yes... I need you and some quiet time to sort out my head.
Okay.
**one slightly drugged meal later**
Sombra, I feel funny.
I'm sorry, but I can't bear to lose you as well.
Clover can't actively use her talent. It works passively and it works randomly. In a sense, Clover WAS lucky when she was transferred into crystal. She has been one of the main reasons why Equestria has survived and become the nation that it is, and she's been alive to allow it to happen. Well, alive in a very general sense.
In this instance, her luck wasn't looking out for her, but the nation she helped to found, and Clover is aware of this. Her luck helped her friends and those she loved as much as it did her.
And it has been Clover and Princess Platinum, two founders of Equestria, who has helped Celestia through the long years of separation from her sister, as well as Sombra through the mirror.
But now we head into spoiler territory.
5274394
I guess it happened before she could think about opposing him. Sombra probably caught her off guard. As far as I remember, Berry said she was lucky whatever she was doing. She most likely struggeled rather to not die than to oppose Sombra, and succeeded.
And luck is an omnious force. Probably she had some sort of blessing of the Fates?
Edit: I will never lern to refresh the comments...
5274419
Two unicorns, notably.
I wonder what Clover's CM moment was. Realizing how lucky she was?
I guess I'll save that for the next Q&A.
5274444
CM moment?
**Confuzzled look**
5274419 so basically they won despite themselves? that sadly is what is coming to mind. that the victories they have had were never under their own power. celestia only kept things in order because of luck and not because she is competent.
perhaps that is not the case but it certainly put the comptence of equestria, the mane six, bucky, and celestia into question. what parts were because they were competent individuals and what parts were them solely succeeding because of the ill soul with ill luck connected to her?
5274459
Cutie Mark Moment/Scene.
In case that her cutie mark depicted that talent of hers.
Wow didn't see that coming! Poor clover. I'm sure Celestial will come to her senses eventually. Can't wait to see how this plays out.
5274464
Different approach: How many rulers have failed because of bad luck? You can be as competent and as wise as Solomon, but with things going against you because of bad luck...
Take Scar from The Lion King. I don't think the terrible drought was his fault, and yet he gets blamed.
I don't think Tia would have managed the time of Luna's absence without luck.
5274494
I have been figured out.
5274494 ruling is not luck, it is how you react to situations as they occur, good or bad. scar's problem was that with the hyenas and lions together they had driven off most of the food in the area, and also he refused to leave after the herds because of his pride.
some luck is needed i will not lie, but if you are a good ruler you know how to deal with situations and not rely on luck and even know when you must put aside your pride. more often than not it was slefish and pride that was the end of a ruler.
5274515
Yes, Scar probably wasn't a good ruler, I never said that.
But a landslide that causes a source of water to cease or a late monsoon is in the hand of nature. He didn't have magical pegasi to gather rainclouds. Or a type four unicorn with a focusing horn and the alicorn of magic.
But also, that is how they tell the story. Ever heard Scar's side to it?
somepony see that she is okay?
5274147
I think I rather remain shallow if these leaders and gods of mine are going to do things like hit the reset button and ending everyone's lives or throwing my friends to the slaughter all in the name of the "greater good" that we're all apparently blind to. Mind you we're all blind to their reasoning when no one is explaining why they're doing it/behind our backs/ulterior motives.
5274494
Yeah leaders need luck to keep things from falling apart. one of my favorite sites on the internet, cracked.com, has many humorous but well researched articles on a variety of topics, though my favorite are in the history section. Here's one about *drumroll* George Washington!
5274682
My little Clover - Coincidences are Magic.
Makes me also think of BBC's Merlin.
Don't get me wrong, Arthur is a good man, but how many times has Merlin playing fortune godess for him with a little magic whim saved his rear end?
5274730 difference there is that merlin was using magic directly to prevent tragedy from coming. he was activelly stoping the things that could have destroyed arthur. here we have some force that automatically does things to reverse or prevent disasters rather than someone actively preventing them.
PLOT TWIST!
5274816
You're right.
It's just that Arthur perceived many things as sheer luck. Rockfalls and such.
Kudzu, why do you hate me?
I just want to comment on something recent and relevant, but you update too fast
So, from where I was going to comment about a week ago, but then I was busy, to now:
I would like to make two things clear.
1. I am a major gun rights supporter.
2. It makes COMPLETE AND PERFECT SENSE for Bucky to globally disarm firearms.
While ponies CAN use guns, griffons and minotaurs and diamond dogs have a much easier time of it, so it makes sense from a tactical perspective. Also, very importantly, unlike most of the gun control attempts that take place here on earth, it's actually properly enforceable. It's an old argument, but still true that in our world, the law-abiding good people that you might be okay with having guns will obey, and the law-breaking bad people that you are not okay with having guns will not.
Here, we will have thousands of dedicated law-enforcement units that will sense every nook and cranny of gunpowder and pyrovision-ify it.
Although, that only covers guns that use gunpowder, and not some alternative propellant.
And that basically sums up what would happen if I met Bucky.
Assuming, of course, that he didn't just kill me on the spot, but wanted to have a good chase first.
Yay marriage whooooooooooo where are my fireworks? Oh, goodie, you didn't ban them.
About 150 chapters ago, this would be my favorite fanfiction aside from some of the raunchier bits, and no I do not even bother reading the side chapters.
Now, this IS my favorite even with them. Thank you.
Poor Celestia. For everyone who thinks that Celestia is being a wimp, while that might be slightly true, it is only slightly.
If you all will remember, Bucky kinda promised to Celestia that Twilight would keep her innocence.
Hmm. Let's see.
1. Severe physical trauma.
2. Personal kill count of OMG HAX IM CALLING MICROSOFT AND YOUR'RE GETTING BANNED FROM XBOX LIVE WOW DOOD HOW MUCH MOUNTAIN DEW DO YOU EAT AND HOW MANY DORITOS DO YOU DRINK EVERY DAY GET A LIFE U SCRUB!!!111!!1!!1one!!!
3. Got married to two ponies.
4. Seeing several of her very best friends almost die
5. Anything I might have forgotten.
Yep. Totally innocent.
Seriously, how many griffons and/or whatever lived in Griffonholm were, as they say, "rekt" by solar fire?
Oh, and Pinkie. My waifu, what has happened to you?
Also, I am unbelievably happy about Ripple's troops.
I can't wait for them to become elite troops and annihilate something evil.
I'm bringing a camera, and a mop.
One suggestion to improve your fanfiction : Give Bucky a mop. He tends to create messes.
5275322
Thanks!
5275335
S-s-s-senpai noticed me (O///O)
Seriously, if you actually read through what I wrote, I am going to try to find a way to buy you a gallon of egg nog.
Or your beverage of choice, assuming it isn't excessively expensive, like liquid gold or something. (Too soon?)
You're going to have to wait four months minus a few days if you want something alcoholic.
Unless I move out of the USA.
Thank you for existing and writing this.
Just found this and it reminded me of Bucky's laugh.
not sure if relevant, but it fits
If anything, Celestia got off easy. Hard as it may seem, Twilight was actually showing RESTRAINT! Remember that thanks to Celestia's little ploy, Rainbow Dash was nearly killed, Applejack now has blood on her hooves, Fluttershy was nearly RAPED, Spike had to roast a sentient being, Twilight went all "WRAITH OF THE GODS" on the Griffon Kingdoms, and Pinkie Pie is just plain BROKEN! None of those things would have happened if it hadn't
Question is, will anyone have the balls to force her to sit down and admit just how badly she screwed things up.
5274341 I try to be, but keeping track of all the details gets a little difficult at times.
