One of the things I have to remind myself of whenever i read this story.
Boadicea is somewhere around 9-11 years old, by her own admission.
Man I feel bad for her.
So then there's a chance Sentinel's face can be restored, right? It hurt so much to think that even if he survived, he'd be scarred in a way just as bad as his father had been!
Oh man, these past chapters have been pretty damn intense.
6783369 I... don't think there's any hope of Sentinel getting out of this without a nasty scar, at the very least.
6783410 Well, at the very least I hope they can save his eye!
6783443
Did you ever read the glimpse into the future with Sentinel?
6783447 Refresh my memory

6783443 I tried to read your reply when it got to my email and it just vanished. wtf.
I'm not particularly fond of Hearthfire. It seems like a crutch and a "Get out of consequences free (or at reduced cost)" gimmick.
And here I was really thinking it would have been Derpy to break the sound barrier in pursuit of Dinky.
6783470
It certainly sheds light on why Princess Celestia is obsessed with it.
It was the whole point of the Crusader Project and the Ponyville Project. Restore Hearthfire into the world.
6783456 Thank you
6783483
Celestia is Equestria's Nuclear Option that can't be used because she'd destroy everything pretty much. Hearthfire would make her a SAFE Nuclear option. Man that is such an oxymoron right there.
6783483
I stand by my opinion of it.
6783553
6783470
Power without consequences
or
A little protection while learning how to be a hero.
YOU DECIDE!
- You know, if you want to. No pressure.
6783567
Definitely the first option.
6783571
Why?
Edit: the first group of heroes were propped up by Hearthfire as well. It will only be around for as long as it is needed, and then it will vanish for another turn of seasons until it is needed again.
6783581
Because Hearthfire makes everything better at no cost or insignificant cost for those who use it.
For someone who obsesses over self control, this was a pretty bad lapse. You't think Sentinel would know better by now.
Also, Id like to make the observation that Sentinel seems like the type to be in danger of turning to the dark side, even if he would never allow it to happen. His fear and anger definitely prevailed over his control. With how poorly his first attack was, it at least seems that way.
6783589
So why power without consequences? Why have Princess Celestia become even more powerful? Why not let other ponies bask in the limelight for once? Why should she be the one getting all of the glory? If ponies grow dependent upon her saving the day, and something happens to her, then who saves the day?
Oh, that's right, the ponies with no experience to be heroes!
- Egads, another one is eaten by the dragon! And not in a good way.
6783598
He was berserk.
More about this in the next chapter.
6783369
6783410 He's lost the eye
6783602
*shrugs* Don't care. I despise power of that nature without consequence. Boadicea and Piña should have both been hospitalized with exhaustion at the very least.
I am not going to be convinced otherwise.
All those comments ´bout how the foals were let loose doing dangerous things without supervision...soon we´ll see the consequences.
I´d like to be the Alicorn of Popcornhood...that would be the only way to get enough popcorn for what will soon come to happen.
6783640
Boadicea? Why? She stabbed something a few times. She trains, endlessly to build up her endurance. Why would she be exhausted enough to be hospitalised?
As for Pina, she has other problems. You just haven't seen them yet.
6783629 https://www.fimfiction.net/blog/455429/a-super-spoilery-peek-into-the-future-of-the-chase
His eyes.
6783673
He lost his eye though.
You know, Bucky has two eyes as well.
**Walks away whistling.**
6783676 Well, based on this evidence, it appears his eye is restored, or perhaps even replaced
6783680
Sentinel gets the Eye of Odin, as has been discussed in other places.
6783642
Or maybe someone has finally had enough about ancient evils being left under the rug that have all basically come out of the woodwork the last few years. Which were pretty much left there by Celestia and Luna.
6783685
Of course. Say, it'd be pretty cool if, seeing as they each have one of his eyes, Sentinel and Bucky could see through each other's replaced eye
6783699
No, there is only one Eye of Odin. Sentinel becomes the bearer not long after a funeral.
6783656
Why? She ignited the Hearthfire and kept it burning around them. When unicorns do large magical feats it burns through their calories at an accelerated rate and as in Dinky's case can be life threatening. When others do other feats it wears on them too. But Hearthfire? It's the magical bean that fixes everything. No effort required, no cost associated. You'd think what was required to save Sentinel and Dinky would have been exhausting for Boadicea as well, but apparently not. No cost what so bloody ever despite her use of it. And as far as I can tell Pina's cost is more due to her using her own magic reserves rather than the effects of the hearthfire.
So Hearthfire remains "power with no consequences" gimmick in my mind. One that The Catch would be better off without unless it's workings were altered.
You're not going to convince me otherwise, and I can already tell I won't convince you, so we might as well both drop it.
6783707 OHHHHHHHHHHHHH.... Still depressing
6783733
Hearthfire doesn't come from within, it comes from friendship, and Boadicea can't make it happen if she's alone.
She has to have friends around, and the more friends she has around, the stronger it is.
Also, you seemed to have missed some vital details. Like the voices. Hearthfire isn't regular magic. It's something else entirely. Soon, we'll be hearing a very specific voice within the Hearthfire.
6783757
*shrugs* Still the same. Power without consequence is power without consequence.
Oh I didn't miss them, they're just irrelevant from my point of view on Hearthfire's status.
Sombra, right?
I fear dinky and pina may need to be mentally analized considering the hag escaped her death last time by taking over another pony she could be in the recesses of their subconcious! (Or yknow, she ded)
And what about Sand Piper?
6783817
Power without consequences was actually referencing Celestia... I think you missed something. You keep using those words as if they apply to the current situation. They don't.
6782116 why must degrees be so confusing? Isn't it enough with just 1 system?
6783844
Patience.
6783817
When the Elements of Harmony are used the bearers aren't drained. They are revitalized. Normal magic is like standing in a stream using your body to direct the flow, but the magic macguffins are like a fire hose the work of controlling it is done for you you just have to guide it.
6783856
Allow me to quote my original post:
Never once have I brought up Celestia. I've been pretty clearly been talking about how broken and gimmicky Hearthfire is since the start. I never brought Celestia into it. I never even spoke of Celestia. Only the Hearthfire.
6783875
The Elements are also physical objects that act as focuses and can be taken away. You need to have the element to use it. Typically you need all six of them to do anything. Hearthfire? Apparently not so much. In fact it only gets stronger the more are around Boadicea. Tis a cheap "get out of consequences free" gimmick.
6783937
6783567
Referencing my own post. I guess you weren't paying attention or it slipped your mind. See the confusion?
6783944
Isn't that how miracles typically are? They come out of nowhere, they usually cost nothing, and the more they usually require some great ideal like love or friendship, or heroism.
6783960
............... and where is Celestia mentioned in that, exactly? I do not see her name anywhere nor any other sign of it indicating her.
You said: "Power without consequences was actually referencing Celestia..."
Really? How was ANYONE supposed to associated Celestia with that?
And the Hearthfire is power without consequence.
6783970
I also hate miracles, because they're also bull$#!^. *shrugs*.
6783973
You lost track of the conversation and how it started, didn't you?
Celestia, in the story, is obsessed with Hearthfire and wishes to wield it. For her, it is power without consequences. It would allow her to become the walking nuclear option without worry of consequences for her own power.
Hence, the first option in the post I made. I guess I have to carry over every relevant detail from every previous post. My bad. I give up. Too much to type and too much work to do. I'm sorry. There is just too much to explain, I suppose.
6783977
Elements of Harmony are miraculous items.
Unicorns are animals that perform miraculous feats.
Alicorns are creatures made of miracles.
