It was in drunken stupor. Not exactly a healthy way to start a relationship... There's bound to be problems...
So about Bluebloo- *shot*
I had just finished reading this and was about to go to another story when you just had to decide to add another chapter.
4406629
I am writing in a special scene with Blueblood.
He gets caught in a scandal involving parasprite insertion. Kinky.
gait
4406643
Nuts. I've had like 4 hours of sleep in the past 50 hours or so. That was obvious, I should of had that one.
i have a good idea for a scene with luna and barley later but i dont want to decide what the author writes in his own story :P
4406629
I'd be mortified if Luna was left as a loose end.
4406654
should've / should have
On a lighter note, the Barley/Luna scenes are GLORIOUS.
Gonna leave this story for a while and try to catch up on others. This story gave me conflicting feelings and i need a break from it.
Glorious...
4406673
Kiss me, I'm shitefaced.
I nearly coughed up my remaining good lung from typing this. And the line that follows. That line.
4406634 ... That's not funny.
Stuff with Luna and Barley? Hilarious.
Blueblood, family of the Princesses close enough to be acknowledged as a nephew openly, being involved in some parasprite kink? ... Not so much.
4406706
I was only kidding mang, I have nothing planned at all for Blueblood. He's not even in the story.
Found another
too
4406721 Lol. Darn. I really would like to see him... but I won't pressure you...
I'll just keep openly theorizing about scenarios involving him, like the idea of him and Harshwhinny being together in Confusing Day and Apocalypse, or them being a couple that, while not necessarily against Herd marriage as the well-meaning concept behind its reinstatement, are extremely uneasy about it.
He is their family, after all. This would drive him and his own Unicorn-brand neurosis up a wall!
One more.
quite
Edit: Another.
Bucky
4406733
Blueblood fixation.
Neat.
4406768 I'mma NUTS!
Yeah, it happened as a result of joining "Give Blueblood Some Character", because I was one of many whom got sick of the character being completely loathed even more than Gilda, even though he did comparitively less.
Thus far, the name of the game is listing all the crack pairings possible and how to make them not-so-cracky. And it. Is. GLORIOSA!!
4406634 I love you.
4406733
Actually, since YOU would be interested, I have story notes involving ideas about a story involving Blueblood as a foal in Celestia's school.
Difficulty, his companion is Trixie.
Both of them blunder awkwardly through school together, hating one another, I mean really hating one another, but nopony else talks to them.
Awkward innocent foal age romance ensues, full of insults, potty humour, and a rated everyone rating.
4406786 ... Eh.
Weirdly, Trixie is a character I never could get behind or care for... We all agreed on that forum that because of their clashing egos that the world cannot handle together, these two actually would not get ever get along or have a romance.
Then we turned around and wrote out different notes and scenarios of him having cuddle-time with Gilda. Or Flutter-Bat. Or meeting Maud.
4406795
It is called Two Blue Friends.
If you watch the show though, you already know how this relationship ends.
4406809 Badly, I say. Egomaniac and Snob. Not a good combo... Snob and Shaping-Up Snob, however... are.
... You want to see some of the odd scenario notes? Just for some quick laughs?
4406818
Sure, why not, private message em.
I think I am going to go to bed finally, now that I have finished writing.
I cannot feel the keyboard anymore when I type. I am dead below the elbows.
4406825 And so the great machine breaks down.
4406829
4 hours sleep in a 50 hour or so span.
I'll probably be awake in a few hours.
Goddess, I hope not. That would suck.
4406838 Yes. Yes it would.
Luna and Barley. .. can't say I want that. Barley is a bit old to be settling down... especially with a mare like Luna. And though I think he would happily be shag/drinking buddies I think he would honestly want a stallion who could give Luna his best years...
The Laird guy however, do I see sails on the horizon. Also it might be interesting to see some Cloudsdale politics come into play and possibly some sexy stallion rivals.
4406849
Keg Smasher has a dozen wives.
He's taken enough. Oh geeze.
4406856
Awww no love for Celly...
It's kind of hard for them... any romance between Celly and any of her students kinda rub me the wrong way. And the idea that Barley is even having see is.... well let's just say it not an image I want in my mind.
I just... There are no words to describe the feelings I'm feeling correctly. .-.
Could've been worse: The bread could've made snoregasm noises, or it could be begging "Please don't kill me!"
And he said let there be drunk alicorns, and there were drunk alicorns.
And it was -hic- glor...glor...cool.
So, the fate of the Barley/Luna relationship hasn't been decided yet? Well, Luna can start herding with Barley. Luna's stuck in Ponyville anyway, since she has surrendered to Twilight. After the war's end, Luna remains in Ponyville with the task of "monitoring" Twilight Sparkle, to make sure Twilight doesn't plan on any more "revolutions". Both Barley and Luna know that Barley isn't going to be around for much longer, so that will "time out" soon enough (apologies for referring to it that way ). Once Barley passes away, Luna returns to Canterlot, where she can direct all of her emotional energy towards messing with what remains of House Avarice.
With the above, an interesting middle ground presents itself. This related to spoiler-y stuff from a blog post, so under the bars we go!
Thistle herds with Luna and Barley. I'm sure Barley's would be a better place for Thistle initially, since she must be suffering a fair amount of emotional distress right now. Barley would fit very well as both a father figure and herd Stallion, and Luna would work well as both the older sister and the herd's Alpha Mare. I'd also expect Luna's presence in the herd to be placating to the High Laird, especially since Barley is one of Clan Pickled. I expect Luna would also relish the opportunity to avenge her herd-sister by tracking down and "handling" the stallion that decided to mess with Thistle. Luna would have more power than Berry for such an operation.
We can't leave Berry unpunished, so we need to add one more thing. The arranged marriage is still going to go ahead, it's just being delayed. After Barley passes away, Thistle (who is now hopefully old enough to not be freaking out Derpy as much) will join Derpy & Bucky's herd. To help ensure this happens, two more conditions are made: First, both herds must have have their primary residence in the same building in Ponyville. Second, Thistle and Bucky must consummate the arrangement before leaving the Islands.
4407318 You don't know the half of it:
Where oh were to begin. I suppose I should take the advice in one favorite stories from British Literature and follow it. "Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end: then stop." - The King of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland.
So, the beginning it is. I came into this story not knowing what to expect. I soon accepted that this is an alternate universe of MLP, and on top of that I enjoyed the biology lesson given about each and every pony. I'm going to make a point about something, and I think that it's a fair point since it has been brought up several times already.
Yes, Bucky needs help to find himself, unwind, and learn to let go of some of the repression he has. He needs that badly because it has done a wonderful job of fucking him up quite royally. That said, I do think that it is a bit unfair that he's going out on the limb to adapt to the Pegasus and Earth Pony way of life. He's making the attempt, pushing his boundaries, accepting that things are different and thus his upbringing doesn't work here.
Yet, part of finding someone is learning about their differences, and accepting them. Ditzy (I know Derpy is the name being used, sorry I prefer Ditzy) seems to have a much harder time doing that than Bucky does. She wants to accept him, but she doesn't understand things about his upbringing, culture, and how he was raised. He was raised to be an individual. Being part of the herd is something he has repressed for a very long time. The fact that he's trying, and has went way out of his way to do so, proves how devoted he is to accepting Ditzy.
There was a part of the story where she was mentally complaining about his poor table manners. She was nearly insulted that he didn't belch, fart, or allow his muzzle to be cleaned. She felt mortified about his table manners. Yet the entire time he has been at odds with theirs. Still, he made the attempt to change. It seemed a little one sided. I understand the reasoning behind it. After all Pegasus and Earth Pony societies have evolved differently than the Unicorn society. That's understandable. It really is. Still as understandable as it may be it doesn't quite convey the image of Ditzy attempting to understand him.
Want him, desire him, sure, but not really understand. I get that Berry does understand Unicorn nature, she pretty much explains that she did at the birthday party. Which that was a nice touch having him get the entire Daring Doo series, the doll, and the letters. It showed how generous he was. That was a brilliant touch. Still, Berry, while she understands, basically says that stepping away from that is the best thing for him. It shows some empathy, but it also gives the idea that she considers the Unicorn way of life completely idiotic. She even admits later that she gets why he is reserved. That he has to hold all of that power in and monitor his emotions so he doesn't have a wild attack like Dinky did.
By the way I love the idea that you've basically made the unicorns more neurotic and have to keep a tight reign on emotions like Ororo Munroe/Storm. That's what I thought of at first. The reason they don't let their emotions rule them is because they have all of this untamed power inside of them, and they fear hurting others. So, like Storm, they have to hold their emotions back. Keep a constant check on how they feel and never fully allow themselves to relax. To do so would be to let the power over take them.
I think that I see why they became what they did. It was out of fear of hurting others. Out of the fear of causing so much pain and strife.
Now... The more current situation. Okay... Not current... Something else... I get the reason why Celestia and Luna did what they did. I understand the reason for wiping the memory of what they wanted to do to Dinky from everyponies' mind, But I've got to think that somepony, somewhere is going to remember. Minds are weird like that. I wouldn't doubt if Bucky eventually remembered. Also... The delectation of war... Good touch, really, and I liked how it was handled.
Luna and Barley getting drunk was a good touch. Also... That said, I've got to consider that there are going to be some ponies in all of this who are going to want to remain monogamous. If Celestia wants to be fair the best thing she could do is to allow both kind of marriages to exist.
All in all you've captured my attention. Held it tight, and kept me entertained. I've enjoyed what I've read, and not once did I ever consider myself getting bored. I did question a few things that were happening, but I went with it. When some of the main characters seemed slightly out of character I reminded myself that this is an alternate universe. This isn't Equestria - Prime. This is a universe which has similarities to Equestria - Prime, but it is different.
Thanks for allowing us to look into your universe a little.

As funny as this quote was, i can't help but imagine the doom bells playing in the background and Barley using a very, very low voice for it.
No clue, where this relationship could end up, but i am soooo looking forward to the glorious awkwardness of the next chapter.
Either that's intentional, as Tia is getting a good buzz, or it's meant to be 'I want what mares want.'
wine for Bucky
Maybe that's the problem. She needs the 'stick' shove somewhere else!
Hmm. On the one hand, Luna's debauchery is sure to cause a scandal. On the other, it'll remove any lingering fear of Nightmare Moon still drifting in the collective consciousness. We'll have to see how that one goes.
It's very nice to see Celestia getting a chance to loosen up and vent. She definitely needed it.
Best filly is a great mage in the making. This comes as no surprise whatsoever.
Twilight's confrontation with Berry should be Berry interesting, because I have no idea what the princess is going to do.
As always, looking forward to more.
4407674 You know... I didn't think of that... Yeah, the relationship is pretty one-sided.
4407674
Ultimately, he had to be broken down to the point of being a blank slate (he was) and then recreate his (Bucky) own sense of culture and placement.
And he will create an entirely new unicorn culture when he becomes headmaster of the school. As has been stated openly a few times now, he will create the pony dependency program, where high functioning unicorns pair up and become buddies with earth ponies. They don't understand why it works, just that it works. Bucky is smart enough to observe that something is up with him and Berry, Lyra and Bon Bon, and Dinky and Pina.
Also, keeping a pegasus friend around is highly advised.
It is literally a paradigm shift as far as cultures go. I hate using that word because of what it has become, but in sociological terms, it is the only thing that actually states what is happening. The pony dependency program is the Equestrian equivalent to the Enlightenment we had here on earth. It will become realised that unicorns no longer need to focus inward, but that unicorns need to make and keep friends. A continuation on the theme that Twilight Sparkle discovered. It will spark social revolution and change the way of life for most unicorns.
What you see right now in The Chase is a culture in the throes of death, having reached the end of what it is capable of. We are seeing the French entendre Fin de siècle which means end of the century. It also means the death of an era. In particular, it is commonly used to describe the death of the dark ages era as the age of illumination began, or the end of agrarian societies as the world shifted into an industrial society and the culture that goes with it.
So quite literally, Fin de siècle for unicorn culture and the age of the noble houses.
Twilight was one of the first to show it is possible, but she came from relatively good parents as we can see. Lyra is another example of what is possible, even though in story, nopony knows how or why. And then Bucky, who was BAD. And Celestia knew it. Just how badly Bucky truly was is only expressed during the Want It Need It scene were he completely and utterly denies his need for physical contact and sex, blocking out every last trace of it, denying himself what can only described as a natural instinctual function. His ability to cut himself off completely shows just how wrong his brain is. It is the indicator for deeper problems in his psyche.
As evidenced by Luna, he forced his mental will so strongly upon himself that day that he suffered a mental break. At this point, there was no choice but to rebuild.
Otherwise, Bucky would have only drifted away and died alone.
The break and Luna's corrections are the source of Bucky's dependencies on Berry and Derpy. It isn't an ideal scenario, but it is better than the alternative.
4408815
Dangit, that is where I was going with this. Ponies finally truly see that Luna is a pony just like them. Between Nightmare Night and Luna's drunken revelry in Ponyville, ponies see that Luna is entirely too much like them.
Luna finally gets the second chance and the acceptance she so wants. In Ponyville.
I needed that to play out for further scenes later. But there is still the Barley-Luna bits that need to finished out somehow.
4408937
Sorry I keep anticipating the plot points. Great minds think alike?
Drunk, silly Luna is best Luna.
4408861
Exactly what I had thought as well. Although, I will agree with what kudzuhaiku replied back with. Every society with various cultures in it has a time and moment when one, or all, the cultures need to change in order to survive. If they don't it become stagnate and eventually part of the society, if not all of it, becomes threatened with extinction.
It is something that has been observed by Sociologist before. So, tapping back into my sociological minor I should also bring a few other pointers out. The best and most sought after type of change is one that blends the cultures together. Creating a blended culture. This culture has parts of its 'parent' culture present, but together it is a completely different culture all together.
This has the potential to set that into motion. Still, even depending greatly on others, becoming friends, and learning that they are better as a whole than separate, doesn't remove some things that would need to be retained. Some for traditional reasons aka the Chase, and others for safety. I'm not one to think that the unicorns need to be repressed to the point they've brought themselves, but again as kudzuhaiku it was that brokenness of Bucky that actually allowed him to save Dinky. Even the moment of explaining how broken he was it proved to be useful, to a point, in the saving of another life.
That said... I would think that the Unicorns would need to keep some of their turmoil locked inside of themselves. Express things, show that they care, but at the same time keep their emotions under watch. Not saying that they need to be reclusive, but channel the magic, the power, through control. That control should be maintained. Let the Pegasus and Earth Ponies help them, but understand that in end they are the ones who stand at the gate and keep an unruly power from destroying all they love.
I think that kudzuhaiku has that planned. To show that the control can be maintained without the need of cutting everything else out.
4408916
I've got to say that I agree with most of that. I really do. Regardless, I look forward to the next chapter.
4408916 This is just an observation, I even thumbs-upped the reply to Lordfrieza, but...
...Aren't all these neurotic nobles gonna have Twilight-sized breakdowns of psyche as a result, severely mentally crippling a crap-ton of unicorns into unleashing their magic in defense mechanism?
Honest question.
If the answer is yes, Canterlot is pretty much nuked, and any not-unicorns or not-nobles will be caught in crossfire, spilling innocent blood.
I believe I am either A) overthinking, or B) not thinking enough.
Also, get the PMs?
4410291
Yeah I did. I was writing. Answering posts. I need to actually read them at some point in the very near future.
4410305 Lol. Okay.
I warn you, we finally got a Harshwhinny scenario.
Thank you, Rainbow Dash.
It always bugs me when people Rule 63 the Hearth's Warming Eve characters & tries to pass them off as the genuine version.
