If only the things were the same in our world...
6871375 If only.
Politics are not an easy thing for most to put into writing without it becoming incessantly boring. Its quite refreshing to read something involving politics of any kind that didn't leave me wanting to gouge my eyes out.
Ten points to Griffindor.
Also, in this chapter i saw something that is unusually simple to solve the whole "homossexuality in politics" problem. It´s amazangly simple to see that, when a governement needs to medle with ones sexual life, things go hayware easily. So, just don´t mess with what don´t affect others.
Sure, I´m not that naive. I know politicians LOVE to assume a position, in favor or against, in face of homossexuality ´cause that´s a way to garantee votes. The guy can be the gayest thing in this side of the planet, if he/she thinks he/she can get votes by opposing gays, that´s where he/she´ll go.
And I think that´s the fundamental problem with politics nowadays. None is trying to defend their REAL position, or what they think is correct. They only tries to keep being elected, no matter what means, or what "ideals" they must use.
I swear, only Kudzu could find a way to make politics interesting...
This is what politics would be without the miles of paperwork designed to hide loopholes and create nepotism, without money in the process. Just people who genuinely give a fuck about their country, and aren't entirely stupid.
This story is so fucking long, maybe sometime after I retire I might have time to read this.
6871640 Too bad the most prominent politicians seem to focus solely on their personal agendas instead of focusing on the needs of the nation as a whole, and not just the constituents/party they represent.
People is greedy and stupid, yo.
You see, marriage is a tool of politics. It is incredibly powerful and can start or end wars. Marriage and love are two separate topics and should be treated as such. We think that married people love each other and that is ideal. But this a social construct that pollutes the issue. Marriage is a tool of politics and always has been.
In a free society we are theoretically allowed to love whomever we want, (age and ability to consent presumed ofcourse) but marriage is something else. It joins to people both in a symbolic sense but also financially and within the eyes of the law. A spouse is protected from testifying against their partner because in they eyes of the law they are like the same person. There are alot of rules that are bent or waved for married couples, and rules and exceptions marriage becomes more of a tool to circumvent the law and less about its intended purpose. Provide the foundation of starting a family.
6872155 Better start now, it's just gonna get longer ^^ Seriously though, it's a good read. It's not just "Happily ever after, the end!" but a few chapter here or there and you see why some people have been sticking around.
The aftermath is always the more interesting.
This is far more productive than what we got. I can dream.
6872155 by then it will be twice as long, better to start now, a couple chapters a day, then later, killing yourself to plow on through.
- Pierre Trudeau.
If Rising Star puts out a charter of rights and freedoms, I guess we'll know where some of the inspiration comes from, eh? :P

first chapter: *clickity*
I agree with Rising Star, why focus on the differences when enough similarities exist?
Homosexuality is a bad thing, yes, but people still have freedom of choice; for better or worse, that liberty is vital.
So while that liberty can be misused, (i.e. bad societal choices), that same liberty (when used correctly) is what enables civilization to thrive.
Government is never right when it tries to take away that freedom of choice.
I have spent 2 months reading this story to get caught up. There have been many times I wanted to comment but decided not to as much of what I wanted to say has already been said. I love this story. I like a good long tale and this is the longest brony fix so far and based on research it is the second longest fictional work in history at this time. It is only beat by a Pokemon fic that is 3.5 million words as of 2014. I can see this story won't be ending any time soon and I suspect it will break that 3.5 million mark and most likely go on to be the longest piece of fictional work to have ever been written. Where will it end. None of us lowly readers know. The author might not even know. We will just have to sit back, crack open a cold one (if you are old enough to drink alcohol), and see where this plot takes us next. I look forward to what the future brings. I won't even invoke my future sense to see if I can figure out what will come next as I want to be surprised. (Yeah. I can predict the future quite accurately at random times. Go on, give me shit about how I'm faking it. I know it to be true and that's all that matters.)

6873882 Welcome to the chase, where we chase a story that advances at often time over a chapter a day.
6874326 If you mean religiously, yes, but what right do we have to judge? Some of the friendliest people are gay & they would not be true to themselves if they denied it. It'd be like you or I being forced into homosexuality by someone else's laws. Other than keeping the population down (and the "crime" of sodomy in some places) they do no harm by making that choice.
6876711
SODOMY!
6876711
No, as I said: liberty and principle.
Principles do not change, regardless of how much (or how little) people value them.
As an example; two hydrogen and one oxygen make water.
If it does not have two hydrogen and one oxygen, it is not water, no matter how much one claims it is.
On the other hand, you can claim that it's mercury, neon, or chicken salad, but it is still water.
It's one of the rules of reality, I didn't come up with it.
If one has a problem with that, then your best option is to find the person who created those rules and ask them what the deal is.
I am not going to support homosexuality, because it is wrong.
But if someone is gay and is having their liberty trampled, then whoever is trying to steal their liberty is more at fault and must be stopped.
If the person wants to choose to be gay, then that's not good, but trying to take their liberty away is much worse.
I am anti-gay, NOT anti-people.
6877001
But how do you arrive that homosexuality is wrong?
I mean, it happens in the wild among animals. There is all kinds of hard science showing that a male body can have a female brain and vice versa. So how is it wrong though? Who makes this determination?
I mean, can chocolate ice cream be wrong just because I say it is?
I really hope this conversation stays friendly. I'm kinda skeered.
6877001 Homsexuality is not wrong. It simply exists and is about preference. Personally speak...... i don' get it. But i have no delusions of thinking that it is 'wrong' in any inherent way.
Besides it has always been used as a means of discrimination and scapegoating. That is the sole, solitary reason anyone thinks it is 'wrong' to begin with. Basically by keeping the mindset that it is 'wrong' you are encouraging a long standing and toxic mindset that has been used to both distract from real issues, and as an excuse to commit murder.
6876674 damn, author must be a fiction wizard
6877012
Indeed, I hope people here can remain civil.
Just because science (a method of thinking) provides evidence that something exists doesn't mean it's automatically fine.
And regardless, "hard science" as people understand it gets things wrong all the time.
Not even 100 years ago, people thought things like chewing tobacco and cigarettes were harmless.
Now, we know that there is a myriad of very bad things that happen to the body when one chooses to use such products.
In all likelihood, in give-or-take 20 years we'll discover some previously unheard detrimental effect from (as an example) drinking coffee, when today we just see it as a mild stimulant.
As for the chocolate ice cream, it's not a matter of values, it's a matter of principle.
Chocolate ice cream has a certain flavor.
Some like it, some don't.
But no matter how much or how little you value it, it contains chocolate and dairy.
That's the "principle of chocolate ice cream", as it were.
I have no doubt that two women or two men or one man and three women or five men and two women or whatever arbitrary number you want can be decent people who love their children, provide education, sustenance, etc... and in other words value their development as human beings.
But the crux of the matter is that at best they get an incomplete foundation and at worst they get one made of the wrong ingredients.
I can choose to mix chocolate and mayonnaise together and claim it's chocolate ice cream; I can spread the word, "raise awareness", and convince millions of people that it's chocolate ice cream.
But it is not, because the necessary ingredients are not present.
A child needs a mother and father to grow and develop into a healthy individual.
That's how it works.
That's how our ancestors did it, and that's how our biological parents did it.
Most foundations for buildings use concrete in some form.
Trying to "replace" it with plaster may be easier than putting in the effort, but if you do so, the building will fall.
So metaphorically speaking, people will have the right to "build" with what they want to use, but since we're all in the same "building" I'm not going to jeopardize our safety and future with incorrect "building" practices.
There is right and there is wrong.
That distinction is not difficult to make and we are free to choose one or the other.
That choice has an effect, whether we like it or otherwise, so pretending it doesn't is silly at best and deadly at worst.
The consequences of the choice may not be readily apparent, but they will happen.
It's a rule of reality.
If you don't like it then your best option is to find the person who created the rules and take it up with them.
I'm not going to pretend that being gay is a good thing, but I don't automatically think less of someone just because they made a wrong choice.
So if someone attacks an individual because they're gay, I will stop them because attacking someone is wrong.
But I won't support homosexuality because it is also wrong.
I support civil discourse, happiness, and sustainability (among other things), not bigotry, or LGBT, or anything that tries to rob someone of their liberty.
I don't automatically hate someone who disagrees with me, nor do I wish to be anyone's nemesis, but I will not compromise on principle, and I will not let fear or reprisal change that.
6876852 If you'll notice, I put that in quotes cuz it's actually considered a crime in my state. If you look up "TN Sodomy Law," you'll find it. Anyway, as for your second comment, I personally don't have a problem with it, but the one I worship does. I at least TRY to listen to his rules, although like everyone, I'm not perfect. If I did have an issue concerning that, I probably wouldn't be here.
6877201 Really? I smoke a pack a day and all it does to me is make me shit rainbows!
6877480
That comment makes me feel both and and
It makes me confuzzled.
i can say after 6 months of reading on and off ive caught up... And looks like i just settled in to a shit storm of an argument. Lol i look at it this way rising said it right... I know not everyone agrees with the gay thing do to their religious backgrounds or if they were just brought up to see it as wrong. But at some point people are going to have to pull their head out of their backside and just get along. Too many people breed hate in to their kids because of something so trival as someones sexually.
Anyways kudz thank you for an awesome story on an epic scale i hope at some point hou choose to use my oc callos, i think i submitted a profile about him but if you want to know more about him just message me. Till then, see ya then.
6877733 The shivers are not a nerve damage disease. It´s a combination of various factors (mostly related to magic-induced stress of high level unicorns...only type threes are reported with this condition) that affects the nervous sytem.
6877992
It is a neurological disease though.
6871515
The thing is, that virtually everything we do impacts the people around us: creates peer pressure, sets examples for kids etc.
Take the example of gay parenting. I've read through a lot of the surveys on it, and pretty much all of it is either done by the gay lobbies and is so horrifically slanted it couldn't possibly show gay parenting in a negative light. Then there's the surveys done by church groups with are done somewhat better, from which I can confidently say that the average kid raised by gays has far more social dysfunction (depression, suicide, drug abuse, domestic violence, divorce rates, unemployment etc) than those raised by straights; but then make the massive assumption that this is caused directly and solely by gay parenting when there are a plethora of extraneous variables.
Something like 95% of kids raised by gays are the biological child of one of them (about 80% of cases the mother) who got a divorce and then took up with a gay lover, or the spouse died. Compare this to the overall population, 63% of whom are being raised by both biological parents and have never been through a divorce or lost a parent, and of course they will fare worse.
There's many other factors like this one, but the honest debate in a nutshell is that gays, and the children raised by them suffer far more social dysfunction, but there simply hasn't been any study with enough participants and enough variables accounted for to say what affect homosexuality has.
6878139 thanks
Oh great... I miss a few forevers of reading ponies and I'm 400+ chapters behind....
Guess it's time to start all over. Good thing the story is so amazing or it'd feel like a job

That is some straight bullshit right there.

Wow, that had to be one of the weakest debates I've ever seen.
Monogamous vs polygamous debates don't usually, if ever, focus on sex as much as they do family structure. Confusing kids about love, emotional exclusivity, full blood siblings vs half blood siblings.
And that's just the kids. The entire point of marriage, post political reasons of course, is for the legitimacy of children to fathers. That the male would supply resources and protection for the female and the off spring in return for her bearing HIS children. That he knew they would be his via sexual exclusivity.
Polygamy wasn't too popular to humans because our behavioral genetics taught us that sexual availability of our partners was a threat to either legitimacy of our off spring or to resources that others may lay legitimate claim to.
Yea, it was good for the rich who could afford multiple wives, but most couldn't afford it, and pre-industrial world's wouldn't favor a vulnerable 8 month pregnant female who didn't have a male to provide for her or farther her bastard.
All of this potential debate, forgone for: "you're right, I'm a biggot."
Disappointing.
6872155 its really not that bad. Just a chapter a day and you will find yourself reading it more and more... i started late febuary and plan on finishing it at around late june or july.
6875383 does the future telling thing happen in dreams? And when it happens it seems like deja vu?
Thats what happens to me...
