Badass Bucky is best Bucky.
Oh boy... I wonder what he looks like now.
6523316 Noooo, smartass Bucky is the best Bucky !
Prediction: Now that what he feeds on has changed he will now get drunk off of it at the first opportunity and then proceed to make a new booze with it.
So is anyone going to discuss how feeding on love rather than fear will affect his further performance?
Things that could be issues:
how does feeding on love rather than fear affect his vampirism? Does it just change the diet or could regular love infusions possibly cure him now?
how does it affect his shadow powers? Can he never absorb fear to refuel himself in battle now? are his shadowy powers fueled by love now?
tangent to above could (and should) the other Shadowbolts be changed to also be fueled by love to avoid whatever problems Bucky would have faced if Chrysalis hadn't done what she did.
how will this affect Sombra's shadow if Bucky is juicing on love now?
related to several above, will being fueled by love speed Bucky's recovery and tolerance for sunlight?
(not completely directly related by relevant discussion questions)
now that he is fueled by love will licking Bon Bon's frog leave him even more catatonic?
Will saving Bucky from the fear feeding spiral earn Chrysalis a pass from Bucky's wives?
More issues may be posted as I think of them.
...Wait. How will Cadences Love beams affect him now? Will they still disable them like before? Or will they be like a supercharge now?
6523492
I knew I was missing one.
what does it mean if War is now fueled by Love?
6523498
6523492
Who said Chrysalis was doing this to help him?
Bucky will be able to feed off of a variety of emotions now, just like changelings do. Love will be the strongest.
As for Cadance, have a minor spoiler. One of her little love taps will do a lot to heal and restore Bucky, but it will conflict with his nature as War. It will still turn him into a puddle for a while.
6523492
And that's how Cheeselegs killed the world.
Couldn't he have just turned to shadow to get away?
6523539
Too distracted. He had his guard down.
Bucky and Chrysalis are going to make one hell of a general tandem.
Kinda like Patton and Montgomery. Those guys had one of the most storied rivalries between allied generals ever.
Bucky's going to mutate even more, isn't he? He used to gain power from the hatred and violence of the world as the avatar of War. Now he's going to be gaining strength from love. Pretty much the opposite. And he's got little miss love-beam as a devoted, overprotective daughter (shouldn't that be the other way around???)
It's nice to hear that Cadance and Shining Armor will be able to have some children after all, once they find a surrogate mother. I keep picturing Rarity accepting to carry their foals.
Crap. I was hoping the Changeling race couldn't survive without Chrysalis' brainwashing phylactery magic. Too damaged to ever be individuals, aside from the rare experiment or strain with its own intelligence and free will and such. If Chrysalis gets undone, Changelings just become another breed of pony with different magic instead of their unique niche. Here's hoping it still turns out like that.
Still hoping he ruts Chrysalis like a whore and makes her jealous of his wives.6523817
Not so much gaining strength as being able to feed from it. There is a difference. He'll gain some, but it won't be infinite cosmic power. It will be the ability to heal up a bit, sustain his body, and keep his spirits up. This was done by Chrysalis to repair his failing mental state, which had become the deepest, darkest hole in all of Equestria. Think of his ability to feed on love as opening the curtains and allowing the sun to shine into a window in a dark room.
6523822
I'm pretty sure his wives would be mad he got happy husband hugs from someone who isnt a wife.
6523822
Ultimately, the outcome of the Changelings' fate will not be seen in The Chase. It will be left ambiguous. You will see the groundwork laid down for change, and some reconciliation, but end result will not be a part of this story. Just a background element.
Chrysalis will be attending the funeral at the end of The Chase though.
6523860
Berry Punch would fertilise her garden with thousands of bug queen corpses.
"Strangulation foreplay"
This is why Chrysalis is my favorite.
I thought I remembered something about Chrysalis being a body jumper. Just more proof that the majority of the mirror travelers are morons.
Something very important to remember for this chapter.
You are what you eat.
You eat fear... and you become afraid.
6523545
No, bucky respects Chysalis, Patton, while spectacular, was an asshole. (I wrote a 26 page essay on the bastard, i fucking respect that asshole!)
6523880
Good Fertilizer that is.
Welp, I am actually disgusted at what Bucky is deciding to do. He's made artificial races without the idea of sacrificing them, having to do so as a last ditch effort, but now he's making children just to kill them off.
Unless we say that the changeling race does not exist and it is only Chrysalis, which is probably accurate enough, but still horrifying because she deliberately makes it so.
Oh dear...
This just went from bad to worse.
Again.
6524213
Bucky is doing what must be done to strike back at one Equestria's enemies before they can come up with something new. And he is doing so with the knowledge that he only has a limited amount of time to live with the consequences. And you know how much he cares about those. As long as his friends and family know the true him he couldn't give a flying fuck about how the rest of the world remembers him.
6524959
Yeah, I guess the ends justify the means, and even something horrible is totally okay as long as Bucky's still a good person underneath it all.
Even if he's done terrible things, he's still a good person. Even if he leaves the world in shit he's still a good person, because he doesn't like consequences. Remember, the world has indicated that slavery is totally fine, so slavery and unwilling sacrifice is also fine.
Without snideness, though, can't I at least say he's doing something horrible? Something that is going to be among the most terrible things he's ever done, creating slave-children just to die for him, and giving a sociopath even more power, to boot?
I've stuck through this a lot, but the whole ends justify the means extreme edition is getting to me.
6525026
He admitted to hypocrisy, or did you miss that? He knows what he is doing, he knows that it is wrong, but he also knows that thousands to save millions is a worthwhile trade. At least, in his mind. He's having Chrysalis create an army of drones to buy time and push the mirror travelers back. He remembers what a few bug bombs did to Las Pegasus.
He's already remembered as a monster. He burned Griffonholm with the sun. (Well, took the blame for it anyway) He caused what is arguably the largest explosion ever seen and caused an entire mountain range to disappear. (By accident)
And now, he will be remembered as the pony who sacrificed thousands to save millions, maybe more, by crippling the mirror travelers, he's not only saving Granum, but other whens and wheres. The mirror travelers are going to find out why you don't pick fights with the Manifestation of War.
It comes down to the old moral quandary: Do you eat one human baby to save one hundred other babies, or do you bitch about morality and let one live so a hundred others can die.
There is no simple easy answer. I personally don't think there is a right answer. But there is an answer, as awful as it may be.
6525081
I didn't forget he said he was a hypocrite. That doesn't mean that I am not getting sick of the fact that it always seems to come to it. That there's a constant "even though we succeeded we are even more desperate and need to take even more drastic measures."
However, the world isn't really blaming him for anything. I mean I guess it is but I never feel it because it never means anything. You just say people are pissed. No one protests at his house, no one blocks his family from working properly because they hate him. No one does a single thing against him, and if they did, they would be the bad guys and karmically punished. Luna would delete their minds or something, then everyone would be all on how bad it was that nobles had created this system that shields them from consequences.
Actually, overall, it seems this story is free from consequences. Every terrible thing Bucky did has been justified back and forth, and nothing too bad ever really happens as a result. Terrible things happen, but it's never Bucky's fault, even though he keeps doing things that are supposed to be bad.
While the characterization is still enjoyable, it's been a very long time since anything was tense. I assume everything will be justified back and forth and no one important will judge Bucky and it will mostly have positive consequences, no matter what is happening.
6525169
It has in fact been brought up as a background element. We don't see it often because we don't often see things away from Bucky's perspective.
Will things be okay? Not really, in the short term, a lot of bad things are going to happen. In the long term, which is the end result, things will get better.
6525169
Civilisation collapsed.
Mast of the upper ranking structure of the military varnished, becoming disloyal.
Seeing weakness in Equestria, other nations began the drums of war.
And things spiraled out of control.
6525295
Which of those did Bucky cause? Because none of them seem to be his fault. Civilization collapsed because the nobles were corrupt. The military vanished because they were corrupt. Other nations attacked Equestria because they were evil or something.
Those aren't things Bucky caused, they're things that were already bad and the events happened, and were mostly solved by Bucky, rather than causing.
6525352
Actually, one of those can be pointed at Bucky. The upper level brass really hated him, but a lot of the lower ranking troops liked him.
6525352
Also... Bucky's declining state of mental health. Is that not a consequence?
Heh, their relationship could only be described as gloriously acidic.
6525295 And yet throughout all that not one Alicorn has been made...
I know I sound like a broken record, but I was there for the vote on Alicorns, and the vote was if they earned it...
800 plus chapters...the rise and fall of nations and gods...wars spanning several worlds...and not one has earned an Alicorn upgrade...
The closest we got is Apple Bloom...and she does not want to because she is too young...I agree just as long as later on she has the same problem of staying away from healing magic that Bucky had since she might accidentally ascend.
Sunset can but won't because she misunderstood her teachers ideals...which is as written that unearned titles are useless, and that regular ponies can do just as much as powerful ponies...that does not mean he thinks the princesses are useless and Alicorns in general are better off being raped into extinction.
Bucky would become an Alicorn in a heart beat of he could do so without killing Cadence or destroying the world. Bucky would do anything to get a power boost to protect his family.
Every other race is making a comeback and getting a second chance...except for the one race that was raped and eaten alive into extinction...seems kind of messed up doesn't it...
If you have plans that I am not aware of then I apologize for my misunderstanding.
6526392
I do actually. A loose collection of notes.
The idea is about the other side of world where the dragons live and two of Bucky's children who go over there for the sake of diplomacy. No plans to resolve the changelings.
6525865
This is going to be addressed... it just can't be addressed now. We haven't hit that point yet.
6525169 I have to disagree with you ´bout the "no consequences" thing.
There are a lot of consequences. For Bucky, he is loosing himself, booth mind, body and soul. I mean, how deeper his mood can go ? If it goes any lower he´ll reach Tartarus by it´s own depression strength ! We know that public opinion, at its best, fear him. There is a giant PR taskforce trying to soften that (remember the journal talking ´bout how his punch uppon the mirror traveler that spitted on Celestia was an act of love ?). And, again, we did not see a lot of those consequences ´cause Bucky is VERY focused uppon the farmhouse. He have almost no relationships outside Ponnyville (and even there, limited to hust the closest friends), the school and the royalty. Remember last time Bucky went for a trip ? It was with Piña, in the Tea House, and, even so, way before a lot of things he did, he got more then one stare.
So, for me, it is pretty clear he is buring himself as deep as possible in his confort zone, where ponies understand why he does what he does. His family, close friends, the sisters, that are using him as floggy boy over and over. There are a LOT of consequences...they are there, you just need to see.
And as ´bout anyone rallying his house or family, complaining ´bout him. yeah...you see, you just don´t want to piss the boogiepony, or any of his family. That simple. It´s like going to Siria and screaming towards Bashar Whateverishisname for killing inoccent people. you can see that plan won´t work from the very beggining...
6526622
Hey, let's go shout ugly words at that asshole.
**Sees statues of ponies**
Hmm, nevermind, I think I'll go rethink my life.
6525890 The Chase have a unique power to ANNOY anyone out of its mind. I mean, I´m a huge fan of the author´s work, and by huge fan I mean "fan girl" levels. But he like to annoy us over and over. It´s part of his appeal. So, everytime something sounds off or make you rage on his story, and believe me, this will ahppen A LOT, take a deep breath, take even a break, but keep reading. Over and over again the author have a reason to do what he did. He like to play with our perspectives and expectations. It is very worth the reading. I´ve read almost every major work on this site, asside Fallout Equestria and The Fall of Equestria and, by now, I can assure you, 99% of the time I´m here is for this little story.
6527055
Little... story? 2 mil words is little to you now?
I knew Chrysalis was too smart to get herself caught without it being part of some kind of plan.
6523954 Patton was an asshole, but he knew what he was. Montgomery was a self-deluded little prat, and Bradley was worse than both of them together. Goddamn "soldiers' general", damn I loathed Bradley. I kind of liked Devers, but nobody remembers him...
Moons above, i love Chrysalis!~
6526737 Speaking of trickery, what ever happened to the pyro-Dryad?
