The Mew that never Grew

Author's Note:

Reaching 700 next chapter. Sweet. Just a teensy bit more till 1000.

Holon Region. Mirage Forest. Late Afternoon.

The fieldworkers that were working and researching here in the entirety of the Holon Region had seen the arrival of Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash and Rarity.

"Oh. You're the ponies that arrived at Holon this afternoon." said a Fieldworker. "Are you all alright? There were heavy rumblings that went across the forest."

"We're fine. We just...came across something." Rainbow Dash scrunched her face, replying as to try and not give away Mew's location. "What are you all doing here?"

"Mew has been theorized to be here in the Mirage Forest. We knew of Mew already inhabiting and roaming practically all of the Holon Region. Professor Pine and the other scientists said that they spotted pink blurs on their screens and your colours were there a swell. Did you see Mew?"

"Did we see Mew?" Rarity gave a rhetorical answer even though she certainly did. "I'm afraid that pink blur was Pinkie Pie over here."

"That can't be right...They said that the blurs were each two Mew and Pinkie Pie. Did they see wrong...?" A fieldworker removed his hat, scratching his hair.

"Nah. I can just move super fast." Pinkie Pie giggled as she had suddenly appeared behind one of the fieldworkers without warning, scaring her. "Like this."

"GAH!" She jumped after Pinkie Pie's sudden presence. So did the others as they were fully convinced that Pinkie Pie was just that fast to become an absolute blur. This was further confirmed once she appeared next to another fieldworker.

"I mean, that's fast but..." Rainbow Dash decided to seize this moment by showing off. And she certainly did, zooming around the skies as fast as she could to become a blur. "How's that?"

"I guess we were wrong about it being Mew. What a shame..." The fieldworkers were greatly disappointed by this revelation. And because of their disappointment, Pinkie Pie felt bad for lying to them. She did want to know one crucial thing.

"Say...Why do you all wanna see Mew so badly? I mean, almost everyone wants to see Mew, right?" Pinkie Pie asked. Mew was a Pokemon of great importance to many researchers. Even certain teams had great interest, which led to the creation of Mewtwo and Newtwo.

"Why? Well, part of the reason is to know all about Pokemon, of course."

"But uh...don't you all already know about Pokemon? I mean, everypony back home doesn't know everything, that's why we've got that Pokemon School." Rainbow Dash replied.

"Sorry, my little ponies. Believe it or not, while we know so much about Pokemon, we still know little and everything is still hidden to the rest of us." The fieldworker explained as it was revealed the humans in the Pokemon World still had so much to learn. "We had just learned about the Holon Region and the existence of Delta Pokemon years ago. This region is still new after all. There are other Pokemon out there that we have never seen before or heard of. There could be some that have yet to be discovered."

"There are most likely more Pokemon than there are sands on a beach. Maybe every beach out there in the world Maybe even the stars in the cosmos." Another fieldworker explained to them. "We might never reach a limit to how long it will take for us to discover every possible Pokemon out there. That's why we look to Mew as the ancestor of all Pokemon. And more recently, Arceus since it created our universe."

"So that's why..." Rarity understood it all so clearly. It made sense, no doubt. And when hearing all of this, Rarity's mind put everything into scale. Her world and everyone living on it were minuscule. Nothing compared to the titanic size of the Pokemon World and Universe that was boundless. It made her nervous even. "Sweet Celestia...We are tiny..."

"Makes me kinda nervous, ya know..." Rainbow Dash felt the same.

"Well...what if I told you I know a Mew?" Pinkie Pie nudged one of them as they chuckled.

"Haha! No way." They denied it. No one could just have a Mew with them. All except for the individual standing with them. Pinkie Pie then gazed at them, keeping a smug look on her face that did not change. The fieldworkers stood there for a while, reading Pinkie Pie's expression. That's when they realized she wasn't bluffing. "W-Wait...Are you serious?!"

"Well-" But cut off from her words was another rumbling, most definitely the result of the two Mew. However, one Mew was being the major cause of it. Holon's Mew to be exact. Feeling this, Pinkie Pie was worried. Despite her having high faith in Mew, she couldn't help but also worry about what could happen.

"We should head back. I'm not sure it's safe here in Mirage Forest right now." The fieldworkers all left the scene to avoid any more rumbling in case it got worse.

"I need to eat too..." Rainbow Dash's stomach rumbled as she was ready to devour any form of food that she could. "But I don't think we can leave him behind, can we?"

"We're not leaving Mew behind. Not with all of that happening." Despite the showcase of hunger, Pinkie Pie didn't want to leave Mew behind. She loved food, but her friends, she loved more. "Well, I won't. You can go and eat."

"No way. If you're staying, then so are we." However, Rainbow Dash could put aside her hunger for the meantime to stand by Mew. Her loyalty was definitely showing. Rarity and Castform would do the same as Pinkie Pie was thrilled to know this.

Just then, their stomachs rumbled along with the ground. They may have high determination and loyalty, the body still needed something to consume as they each laughed.

"On second thought, I'll be right back." Rarity had a solution to this. She sent out Pheromosa once more, choosing to use her speed. Rarity had been picked up by the Lissome Pokemon as the quest to gather some food had been made. "Let's hope I remember where that settlement was. Onwards, Pheromosa!"

"Mosa!" Pheromosa was off, leaving behind a dust trail. Now it was just Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie to see that Mew was alright. The hostility that Holon's Mew was fairly intimidating but only someone as passive as Pinkie Pie's Mew could counteract that, despite how it may turn out.

Within Mew's Cove.

"Mew!" Even though he chose a passive approach, Pinkie's Mew was met with his body being pushed onto the walls of the cove by Holon Mew's psychokinetic push. He cried out upon making contact with the wall as Holon's Mew approached him with the Desire continuously exuding out of her.

"Mew...!" As time passes on, Holon's Mew was showing that she was hard to get to. Even when facing another one of her species. The obsession she had over Mew staying behind was tremendous but the Desire was only strengthening it.

Seeing how most of his attempts were failing, Mew had another approach. Trying to talk her out of it wasn't working. He went for the next best thing that Celestia and Passion usually go with when dealing with a Desire. Mew had transformed into a Beheeyem for one purpose. To see within the other Mew.

"Beheeyem!" He was already a powerful Psychic-Type but mind-reading and other antics such as that wasn't his forte as opposed to other Psychic Pokemon. Once Holon's Mew approached, Pinkie's Mew could seize the moment. He had used Beheeyem flashing fingers and the colours that they radiated, causing Holon's Mew to stare right at it.

"M-Mew?!" Frozen in place. Pinkie's Mew had successfully caught her in place. Now she could act. Once Holon's Mew was caught within the entrancing lights of Beheeyem, the Pokemon of the Party Pony had approached. He had used Beheeyem's ability to interact with memories.

But instead of erasing them, he decided to look further into it. Into previous memories before this encounter. Mew's eyes as a Beheeyem radiated the same colour as Holon's Mew's eyes. Once controlled, Mew started looking into the past of his fellow Mew, seeing what could be found.

The memories showed him a familiar sight. Something that every Mew in existence will recognize. Or rather, the Pokemon that were once Mew would vividly remember. Mew certainly does as he had seen it previously when within the 18 Realms.

The Earth when it was still young and when the Mew populated the planet. However, the location was on another side of the planet, but still familiar. The sight of an area that slightly resembled the cove and the forest that was above it. There, trillions upon trillions of Mew could be found.

Mew himself was within this Mew's memories as he observed his surroundings. "Mew? Mew!" Mew felt nostalgic once more by returning here. This would be the second time he's been to the past via someone's mind. Truly a bizarre experience but he's used to it.

Mew witnessed the rest of his species frolicking around before they would eventually evolve into other Pokemon and have branching paths. There wasn't much for this species to do at the time. They didn't even have the ability to transform into many Pokemon. The only Pokemon they could mimic were the few Legendary Pokemon that were scattered across the world and even those were rare to the Mew.

"Mew..." Mew searched for something to go off of with Holon's Mew. Something that he could understand. He phased through his species since they were all shadows of the past, moving across the lush forest and the glorious flowers that tinted it with a grandiose grace that could be unmatched by many and only counteracted by very few. Or rather, new glorious sights had yet to be made in the young Pokemon World.

Every Mew interacted with each other at all times. They had each other and that was satisfying to them. All except for one Mew. Pinkie's Mew had noticed how there was one Mew lurking in the shadows. This Mew hid behind some of the trees, clinging onto the leaves and peering its head over, watching its brethren.

Its eyes glowed in the dark, watching all the other Mew play. Mew spotted this sole Mew as that was the one he had to approach. And from Mew's guessing, it was the Holon Mew that he had encountered.

Mirage Forest.

Meanwhile, Pheromosa was still on the move. It had been a few minutes since she left the spot where her friends stood, carrying Rarity. The Lissome Pokemon kept leaving a massive dust trail behind, passing many Delta Pokemon along the way.

But during her rapid movements, Rarity managed to catch something. Mainly something in the air. With the moon starting to show itself, the celestial bodies of space did so too. And with these cosmos showing themselves, Rarity noticed small blue and purple particles flowing in the wind. The colours of the Rift.

"Hm? Rift Energy...That may explain Mew. Or something else." Rarity uttered as Pheromosa had reached Settlement Foxtrot in just 6 minutes. And the restaurant was right before her eyes. Pheromosa moved at great speeds, becoming a blur to many of the residents of Foxtrot. Then again, it was getting late so many would not see her.

Pheromosa finally reached her destination, coming to a screeching halt in front of the restaurant. And as if she didn't move at terrifying speeds in the first place, Pheromosa gently placed Rarity on the ground. Rarity adjusted her mane before checking her saddlebag for Pokedollars. "Many thanks as always, Pheromosa. Return." Pheromosa was then recalled into her Poke Ball.

Afterwards, Rarity had entered the restaurant, making her presence ware to everyone inside. And by everyone, it was only a few employees as there were no customers. Perfect for Rarity to be the only one to order without worrying about time.

"Good afternoon." She greeted them. "I hope I'm not too late for closing hours."

"We're not closing yet." An employee shook her head, walking up to the counter. "You're still somewhat early, my little pony."

"Splendid. Now then." Rarity used her magic to bring over a seat, promptly sitting on it. "My friends and I haven't eaten due to...sudden events that have occupied us. So I would like to order for..." Rarity started counting all of her Pokemon combined with Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie's Pokemon. "A lot. Just as many as you can give me."

"Right, right! Give us a second!" The employee then ran through the door to the kitchen as Rarity started biding her time. A small break from all the action. But she couldn't help but wonder about both the Holon Mew and the Rift Energy that she spotted.

The Desires were obviously related to Rift Energy, no doubt. However, they were mostly scattered across the world. Both worlds. Hitting random individuals and giving them a hidden Desire that had yet to be unleashed unless the right situation calls for it.

But that Rift Energy which was away from Mew raised a different story. Rarity knew that the presence of Rift Energy could be either wonderful or disastrous, depending on how things go. But as she thought this, walking from the side of the counter was another Delta Pokemon. This time, it was different in appearance.

A Delta Dwebble.

It had a greenish appearance as opposed to its Unovan Counterparts original colours and the shell on its back was now a berry bush with purple berries within it, coupled with an even larger purple berry on top.

"Dwebble."

"Ooh. Rarity whipped out her Pokedex as soon as she saw this Delta Pokemon, scanning it.

"Delta Dwebble. The Bush House Pokemon. Berry Form. It makes homes in various berry bushes until they stop producing fruit. Pokemon around its size or even larger tend to flock to this Pokemon when hungry. Although, Dwebble does not seem to mind as much."

"Oh, Berry Form? So there's another, eh? If I knew you existed prior, I would've caught you to feed my friends." She chuckled at the Bush House Pokemon.

"Gah...Walking around without too much of a point..." Suddenly, entering the restaurant as well for something to devour was Team Rocket as Jessie growled.

"Those Delta Pidgeottos were overwhelming..." James groaned as his boy was sparking electricity, indicating that the Pidgeotto in this region were Electric-Types.

"They weren't as bad as that Xatu..." Meowth felt like fainting as Rarity soon noticed the arrival of Team Rocket. She witnessed them in less than tidy states as they had been attacked by different Delta Pokemon this afternoon, leading to now.

"Team Rocket?!" Rarity gasped, almost falling off of her seat. Team Rocket had a less stellar reaction once they saw Rarity. They knew she was here anyway so there was no point in acting surprised. Not with how hungry they were.

"Oh, it's the little twerpette's sister..." Jessie referred to Sweetie Belle, who she had some respect for after the previous contest. She quickly turned her attention away from the fashionista and to Dwebble. She only saw food within her sights. And poor Dwebble was essentially walking food.

"Dwe?"

"Jackpot!" Jessie then lunged at Dwebble without hesitation, having her hands and sharp nails out as her mouth was wide open with the intent to consume life. James and Meowth saw her carnal hunger at its full force as they quickly rushed for her.

"Jess, no!" They shouted as Jessie managed to grab Dwebble, already giving off a powerful grip.

"D-Dwebble!" Dwebble was reasonably terrified as James and Meowth grabbed onto Jessie, trying to hold her back from eating Dwebble. She was too driven by hunger to notice the berry on the back and within the trees. Rarity gasped, also seeing Dwebble's life in danger.

Jessie's fangs bared as she writhed her body in the pursuit of consuming Dwebble. Rarity quickly hopped onto Jessie's head, trying to stop her as well. Soon, it was chaos as Dwebble's final moments were flashing before its eyes.

"Alright, we already have some pre-made food for-" The employee came out to witness the chaos unfurling within the store. She froze in place, spotting the sight of a crazed woman trying to devour a defenceless Dwebble with a man, a Meowth and a mare trying to hold her back.

Rarity and the others raised their eyes, spotting the employee among others that came out of the kitchen. Jessie soon snapped out of it, dropping Dwebble. Dwebble skittered away as Jessie dropped to her knees with the others letting go of her. Her hunger certainly drove her mad.

"Just give us the food..." Jessie groaned, lying flat on her back. The employees then placed the pre-made food on the table with Rarity carefully handing over some Pokedollars, trying not to make any sudden moments after the antics that had occurred for a few seconds.

Afterwards, Rarity had taken the food, ready to have Pheromosa dash her out of here as soon as possible. But before she could do so, she saw how starving Team Rocket were. Rarity sighed, knowing that her generosity could not be ignored. And she chose to accept it instead of ignoring it. She couldn't anyway. Her friends wouldn't be the only ones eating tonight.

Inside Mew's Mind.

Back in Holon Mew's Mind, Pinkie's Mew continued to observe her past. He found little yet it spoke so much. He saw how Holon's Mew was by far the timidest Mew he had ever seen. Every other Mew were outgoing. Holon's Mew would not interact with any of them for a long time, making no connections.

Thus, she went into hiding. Pinkie's Mew witnessed her make solitude elsewhere. Away from the other Mew across the world. He only wished he knew the rest of Mew's reasons. The Mew species were simple albeit very few in numbers. And during that time, the rest of the Mew began evolving. Evolving into the Pokemon of the past present and future. This was natural for the Mew species.

And by the time many of them had evolved and almost all of the Mew population was gone, Holon's Mew was too late. Too late to spend time with hr species. The moment she came out of hiding, she was greatly confused. "Mew?" She watched as the land she used to lurk and hide in was both lacking in numbers and holding few unrecognizable Pokemon.

She saw a Houndour and a Skitty frolicking in the fields and a Pidgey and Tailow duking it out in the skies. Compared to the other Mew, she never truly grew out of herself. All of them grew to the point where they continued the Pokemon line for years to come and some even matured both figuratively and literally.

But not her. Mew felt that she was too late. "Mew-Mew..." The New Species Pokemon whimpered, curling her body a bit as she began thinking of the other Mew that used to be here. All these new Pokemon that she had never seen before confused her young self. She had been startled by the sound of Thunder. That was the result of an Electric-Type Pokemon in the far distance causing that.

Pinkie Pie's Mew watched it all as he understood it clearly. He felt as if he had seen enough. Mew quickly left the memories of Holon's Mew, returning to reality. He also left the transformation of Beheeyem back to his regular self. "Mew. Mew..."

"Mew..." Holon's Mew shook her head, feeling dazed from that. She then backed away, sitting on the pillow to try and relax herself. The comfortable pillow was nearly destroyed by the Psychic pressures and rumbling. She then looked at her fellow Mew, still showing frustration that he would try and leave.

"Mew." But this time, Pinkie's Mew understood clearly. However, the threat of the Desire still existed. That was when he decided to end it. Aura Sphere would do the trick. "Mew...!" Mew put his arms out, summoning the power of Aura. Upon doing so, the Aura flowed within the cove, already causing opposing Mew's Desire to tingle. Aura to Rift Energy was like Electric to Water.

"Mew-Mew...!" The opposing Mew felt threatened by this once she saw Aura Sphere emerging. She was befuddled to properly retaliate in time. However, Pinkie's Mew would not harm her. Instead, he gently sent the Aura Sphere in her direction, causing it to consume her. Mew closed her eyes, believing that this would hurt.

Except it didn't. She opened her eyes to see how her body was now encased in Aura. The Aura felt warm and welcoming. But it wasn't to the Desire. The Desire within Mew started screeching as it burst out of her body. Mew looked at her Desire, witnessing it for the first time. And the last time. "Mew?!"

The Desire to keep Mew could not handle the Aura that was coupled with love. Because of this and the bonus of Mew just having overwhelming power as a result of his bond with Pinkie Pie and the Mewnium Z, the Desire had been destroyed, freeing Mew from it.

"M-Mew..." Holon's Mew felt dreary a bit. Pinkie's Mew went over to comfort her. He gave a far more comfortable spot than the destroyed pillow.

"Mew." Pinkie's Mew let her know that it was alright. However, the other Mew only looked with sadness, not saying much. The destroyed Desire could be seen flowing away as tiny RIft particles, passing through the passageway and the illusion that it had.

Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dah saw this, knowing that a Desire had been defeated. They quickly went back to the passageway to see this for themselves. As for both Mew, the Holon Mew was given some time. However, Pinkie Pie's Mew then hugged her, catching her off guard. "Mew?"

"Mew-Mew." Pinkie's Mew knew that his fellow New Species Pokemon was just happy to see another of her kind and also distraught of the past. But now that another one was here, Mew had some hope to give.

"Mew!" Pinkie Pie shouted, curling her body to roll down the passageway. Rainbow Dash ended up doing it too eventually. She was thrilled to see that not only was her best friend okay but also the other Mew. "Oh! You're okay! Both of you! Yu beat the Desire, didn't you?!"

"Mew!" Mew put out a peace sign, showing that he succeeded. Peace was brought to Pinkie Pie's heart.

"Mew..." Holon's Mew then hovered away, grabbing most of the destroyed objects within the cove. She tried carrying it all, but that was impossible. Not without a Psychic hold of course. However, most of these items were of no use anymore. Not that it mattered much to Mew as she still wanted to bring it with her.

"What's up now?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"Mew. Mew-Mew." Mew would tell Pinkie Pie everything. And he would do so by grabbing her on the face and transferring a Psychic message to her head. In a few seconds, Pinkie got everything she needed to hear.

"I gotcha..." She nodded in understanding. "Thanks, Mew. So...now what do you want to do?"

"Mew." Mew had decided on something. He wanted his fellow Mew to advance and experience more in the world rather than limiting herself. That allowed him to make a temporary decision that he had shared with Pinkie with yet another Psychic message. "Mew-Mew."

"Okay...Sure! You wanna stay by her side and show her everything else, do you? That's my boy!" Pinkie Pie patted Mew on the head. It was revealed that Mew's approach was to fulfil both motivations for his fellow Psychic-Type. Allowing her to experience new things while catching up with the rest of her species with all of that lost time. "Hey...other Mew."

"Mew...?" The saddened Mew looked over, witnessing her kind fly over. Mew held his hand out to her, asking her if she would emerge out of the cove for a longer period of time than she normally does. Mew wanted to show her what she was missing out on.

And as a bonus, she could stick by another one of her species.

"Mew-Mew." Mew smiled, letting her know it'll be okay. He also spoke to her about one last thing. About how there were more like them. They weren't the only two Mew out there. There were still some that have not yet evolved and yet they have grown.

"Mew..." She was hesitant at first, knowing this would involve going beyond her boundaries. But if it meant being with him, then she was fine with that. Holon Mew held her hand out, holding Pinkie's Mew's hand. It was official. "Mew."

"Mew-Mew!" Pinkie's Mew was happy to hear it as he hugged her. They both giggled, flying around happily. Pinkie Pie was pleased as pie, wiping tears from her eyes.

"So innocent..." She uttered.

"Uh...So...is it over?" Rainbow Dash, scratched her mane. "I mean, we could've just let her do this in the first place and all..."

"Pfft! Oh, silly Rainbow Dash." Pinkie Pie chuckled, putting her hoof around Rainbow Dash's neck. "The other Mew just needed that push. Telling her to leave wasn't gonna do it, ya know. And Mew did a great job helping with that. He takes after yours truly."

"Like Trainer like Pokemon, I guess." Rainbow Dash couldn't argue with that. Mew would lead the other Mew from now on, showing her the way. He held onto her hand, guiding her out of the passageway. They all followed as the cove was too ruined to be homely at this point.

Another friend to add on this Holon Journey. This time it was one of myth. As if there already wasn't one already. Two is better sometimes after all. It was baby steps for this Mew. Despite all of these eons that have gone by, she still felt like a child. But there was Pinkie Pie's Mew, who despite having a childlike innocence, had a great sense of maturity to him.

Such is the unique duality and infinite variety that is the world of Pokemon. Neverending in what it can offer and what else can be in store as the journey continues.
