Dark Return at a Dark Time

Author's Note:

I'm a happy fellow right now, grinning the most I've ever grinned since my birthday. And if you know why considering what day it is today, you might be grinning too.

Alola. Poni Plains. Poni Meadow. Resolution Cave.

"Hmm...Why'd that Aura have to get in my way?" Over at Resolution Cave, staying away from the dazzling sun was Opal Vivacity and the vampires. She held up a mirror, adjusting her newly massive hair and fixing up her face which was met with a full force smack of Aura. "I swear. Wish there was a counter to that thing too."

"But at least you got what you wanted, Miss Opal." Another vampire replied, looking at the positives.

"I did. Bayleef's ability to change fate is now mine." Opal quickly remembered the positives and they certainly outweighed the negative. "But, what good is that ability if there's something to get in my way?"

"What do we do about that then? Are we still going to go after Fluttershy?"

"Have no fear. We'll handle the whole Fluttershy thing later. But, despite what I mentioned, I believe I can handle the Aura the next time I come across." Quickly, Opal devised a plan. "It reacts to Rift Energy at a volatile level, doesn't it? If I dare use this ability, at the right time, the Aura will resonate."

"Seems like a hassle to me having to deal with that. Maybe we should get out own Aura?" A vampire suggested.

"Even better. I'll use this new ability of mine to absolutely crush Aura!" Opal declared, making the entire cave tremble. "Who was the one who messed around with it? It was a Gardevoir, right? I'll just take lessons from her and get some advice from Queen Rosa. But aside from that, I can do whatever I want with this power. All I have to do is always keep my hair fresh which is a given."

"Seems like a clear match somehow...so, what now? Where do we go from here?"

"I want some payback, obviously. That farm girl and especially that mutt are going to pay more than anything. They're crazy if they think this is over. That Riolu is the one I'm worried about the most. Queen Rosa allowed us to do whatever we wanted ever since that event from last night and frankly, I have nothing else to lose."

"Can't we go elsewhere?" A vampire groaned, preferring to do something else.

"You all do your own thing. I'm not afraid to go at it solo." Opal finally finished polishing herself up. "With this ability, I'll give her a fate that she'll never forget. Humiliating me like that is unforgivable. The next time we cross paths, I'll make it all the more personal and my victory against her will be all the more stupendous."

"Hm. Can't argue against it." Her fellow vampires shrugged. Revenge is something they weren't against. If anything, they thrived off of it, especially Opal.

"But I need you all to do something for me. While I deal with my payback, think you could all cause a ruckus at the nearest civilization?" Opal requested. The vampires would gladly do so. They had the means to cause some more mayhem and already, Opal knew specifically what she wanted them all to do.

Seafolk Village. The Pokemon Festival.

"Bay...!" Despite being sent to the Pokemon Center to recover, Bayleef was still uncomfortable. After what happened back at Poni Meadow, the Leaf Pokemon began squirming. At least she was awake but in a painful state.

"Oh, dear. You're still not feeling any better?" Nurse Joy observed Bayleef, putting a warm towel over her head. "I was sure you'd be fine eventually..."

"Bayleef..." Waiting patiently for Bayleef to recover as Fluttershy. Raboot, Sceptile, Riolu and all the Goletts had been nursed back to health except for Bayleef who was still suffering.

"So, that's what happened. And you're sure they're around Resolution Cave?" Sharing this news to Officer Jenny was Applejack who also informed Spike and Nurse Joy about everything.

"I think so...That's the only place they'd try and hide at. That or they went somewhere else." Applejack replied, unsure as to where the vampires would be right now after their surprise attack. Realistically, anywhere without sunlight would be the obvious answer.

"But there's a vampire running around with Bayleef's ability now. What do we do about that?" Spike questioned. "I mean, you've got your Aura to help us but she might mess up some stuff that we can't fix."

A troubled Applejack crossed her hooves, thinking about all the horrific possibilities that could come from this. "She can do whatever she wants. If anything goes wrong, it'll go right for her."

"But can Bayleef still use it, Applejack?" Spike peered over at the window. "I mean...Audino still can hear better than everyone else and that Parasite Demon took her ability too."

"Eehhh...Probably. Just gotta give Bayleef more time to recover. Right, Nurse Joy?"

"I believe so." Nurse Joy walked over. "Give her some time instead of rushing her. From what you told me, it sounds like the biggest shock to her system has happened to her body and may be unmatched by anything else. How important was that ability of hers?"

"Very. She had it when she was Chikorita. Bayleef got so used to it that it became a part of her everyday life. And all those leaves around her were connected to it." Fluttershy explained. "But I never imagined something like this would happen."

"That explains it. This shock to her system shouldn't be disturbed. I'd advise Bayleef to take a back seat from now on. At least until her system recovers itself."

"And thank you for telling me about the vampires. I already have my family across certain parts in the world handling with them right now." Officer Jenny sighed.

"Right now?" Fluttershy, Applejack and Spike repeated.

"Oh, right. You don't know. Not too long ago, all of a sudden, reports of attacks had been sprouting up recently. It's from the Dread League. They're as active as ever right about now."

Kanto. Lavender Town. Afternoon.

Indeed. Ever since Rosa Maledicta's bitter mood, the order for the Dread League to do whatever they wished to this world was made. Music to the vampire's ears, they chose different spots in different regions, unleashing terrors upon them. Whilst Opal had the Box of 100 Demons, some vampires used other items exclusively from Magehold to cause mayhem.

And beautiful Lavender Town was under attack at the moment. In this case, the people, ponies and Pokemon here were trapped. They were being held back by shadows of themselves, surprisingly. Shadow variations of their original bodies restrained them, preventing the originals from moving at all.

As to be expected, this was all because of an item. In this case, a mirror. One of the vampires held up a mirror that shared a fitting property. "Here you go!" She aimed at another victim, showing the pony her reflection. And upon showing her reflection, her shadow had been stripped from her body. Once her shadow emerged, stunned by fear, it paralyzed the original owner, taking advantage of her fears.

Another victim joined the crowd. As for Officer Jenny, she was active but was faced with a problem. Multiple mirrors were in the custody of the vampires. She was currently in hiding, making sure not to be caught by the mirrors and their cursed powers. When aiming to take in the vampires, she did not expect to be met with this.

"How am I supposed to get past this?" Officer Jenny said, taking deep breaths. It didn't help that the vampires were flooding the area rapidly with their flight. Jenny would have to find a way to get past those mirrors.

Unova. Lacunosa Town.

Lacunosa Town was also under attack. But the difference here was that Officer Jenny and her fellow officers could retaliate. The vampires had their usual objects to cause mayhem but in this case, it wasn't working in their favour here at Unova.

"What do you mean it absorbs fire?!" A vampire gasped as the object in question set things ablaze. However, there was one issue preventing total destruction. Jenny's Arcanine and Swanna. One can absorb fire with Flash Fire and the other could put it out as well as the other officers and their respective Pokemon.

This came as a shock to the vampires. Setting the town ablaze did not pan out at all, not when there were Pokemon that were tailored made to handle the flames.

Their only defence now would be their own Pokemon going up against the Pokemon of the law. But with all these attacks, despite the vampires doing it just under Rosa's order, there was another reason for it. Ros wanted Daybreaker to appear. Or at least her forces. After all, Daybreaker would also stand in her way.

Back at Magehold, Rosa, who could communicate with her subjects even from another world, was waiting patiently for Daybreaker's appearance.

"She wants to stand in my way, does she? Then...even if this world isn't hers, something precious exists here that she wouldn't want gone." Of course, Rosa also referred to Equestria rather than the Pokemon World.

The power of Yveltal was dangerous enough to garner attention from Daybreaker, prompting her to make sure that the Dread League never find this Pokemon or even harm Equestria and the world. The Pokemon World to an extension, only because of Necrozma.

And of course, the Pokemon World wasn't the only place under attack. It was Equestria as well. Rosa expected either possibility. Either Daybreaker shows up to prevent further discovery of Yveltal or she steps in to prevent anything important in Equestria from being obliterated. Either way, Rosa's Dread League would be there in response.

Kalos. Couriway Town. Afternoon.

And then, there was Luna. The one who truly mattered to Daybreaker. She left Snowbelle City, taking to the skies and witnessing the events happening above. Specifically at Couriway Town. Before she could have the chance to reach Galaxy Master, wherever he may be, there was this issue.

Luna didn't hesitate to get involved with them. And the appearance of the Princess of the Night stunned the vampires who attacked this peaceful festival.

"Princess Luna?!"

"I need to make this quick. Galaxy Master's out there somewhere and this crystal isn't going to go to waste." Luna declared as she was rather annoyed by this. She already had to deal with Galaxy Master and now this new issue was just a hassle more than anything.

When facing Princess Luna, the vampires were noticeably intimidated. Compared to everyone else, Luna was of the highest importance and was definitely strong enough to handle things without her Pokemon. Certainly stronger than a vampire and all the capabilities of a Pokemon as she wasted no time in casting a spell.

There was the moment Rosa was looking for. Luna. She knew clearly that Daybreaker would certainly have to come here just for Luna after what was shared about her universe. Rosa saw an advantage and knew she'd be foolish not to try and capitalize on it. What better way to do so than to endanger Luna?

Universe 11. Equestria. The Solar Empire. Canterlot. Afternoon.

Over at the Solar Empire in this universe, Daybreaker already had to change up her plans. Aside from healing Necrozma, now she was concerned with what the Dread League does concerning Yveltal. After all, they threatened to attack multiple worlds now.

It was only natural.

"Hmm..." She even took the time to write it down. She gathered a list, writing down what needed to be done. First was healing Necrozma and right behind that was stopping the awakening of Yveltal. And behind that was everything else that Daybreaker would get to eventually. "Ah...I can't expect either to come sooner. Perhaps, I can-"

"Your majesty." Interrupting Daybreaker and entering her prestigious throne room was no one other than this world's counterpart to Raven Inkwell. "Ghetsis seems to be finished."

"Hm. That was longer than the 10 extra hours he requested." Daybreaker put the list away. "But that's strange...I would've been the one to let him out. Don't tell me he escaped by himself?!"

"He did." Raven bowed. "By himself, he left that dimension immediately. And well...he looks to be heading elsewhere, your majesty."

"Elsewhere?" Daybreaker pondered. "Ghetsis. I wonder what you've learned back in that world and what you could possibly bring to the table now. Because that world only exists for a reason."

Couriway Town.

Back in Couriway Town, Luna had successfully wrapped things up here. The vampires stood no chance as immediately their items were restrained via the usage of Luna's chains. The same chains that could even restrict the terrifying power of Nightmare Moon.

All these vampires had been restrained by the chains alongside their Poke Balls, unable to have their Pokemon help out.

"That should keep you steady for Officer Jenny and the rest," Luna commented. "I genuinely don't have time to deal with you. I fear the full revival of the Rift more than I do the awakening of Yveltal."

"No fair..." A young vampire commented.

"If I knew where Galaxy Master was, however...I would find him. The only thing I can bet for is the night sky and the golden light he leaves behind." The alicorn sighed as she was certainly far from finding Galaxy Master. He could be in any region right now but the trouble was knowing which one and where.

The vampires would try their last-ditch effort. Exploding. Much like how Night Sprout horrifically blew up in front of Celestia, the same could happen to Luna this time. But they had nothing to fear. They had that special chamber that would retrieve their bodies no matter what. However, that never occurred.

The chains said otherwise, restraining their power. Unfortunately for them, they were stuck until something else was done by this and their only hope was that Queen Rosa would interfere with this.

And something would interfere. Luna, who was about to depart, halted her imminent flight for something else. Her ears twitched as a new noise came by. This was a peculiar noise to Luna. It didn't sound like anything from Couriway Town. By looking up, she spotted something. Something devoid of colour but very visible.

"A black...comet?" Luna uttered, witnessing something dark coming this way. "Or a black shooting star? What is that?"

"Could it be her majesty?!" The vampires immediately thought about Queen Rosa, believing that this was her, coming to their rescue.

Alas, that was not the case. The second this black form of energy showed up, touching the ground, it immediately struck fear into the vampires. They shuddered in a heartbeat, even feeling their hearts skip a few beats. Judging from their reaction, this wasn't Queen Rosa.

This black form of energy expanded itself, reaching the vampires after scaring them. Luna stood her ground as her mane blew in the wind from this striking entrance. She was almost lifted from the ground even.

"Seems I get a bit dizzy after using that with how I am now..." A voice came from this veil of darkness. A familiar and intimidating one that Luna never forgot about. "Oh well."

"That voice. Isn't that...!" Luna shuddered, knowing exactly who this was. But she couldn't believe that this individual would make an appearance now of all times.

Ghetsis.

Ghetsis had returned to this world after finishing his time within that strange dimension. With his black cloak flowing menacingly, he immediately gazed at Luna with his crimson eyes. This was the third surprise in a row for Luna. First Galaxy Master, the vampires and now Ghetsis' arrival.

"Why are you here?!" Luna growled, staving away her fears to try and intimidate Ghetsis, but that wasn't working, even with a magical aura appearing around her horn. But the second her voice was raised to him, that's when Ghetsis responded with true intimidation.

Without him needing to say a word, he instantly made Luna silent. Luna could feel something new from Ghetsis. It was invisible to everyone's eyes except for her as this dark pressure was sending chills down her spine.

"So that was your magic. I picked up on something here that was flowing magic but I should've guessed it would be you." Ghetsis commented.

"So, you came here for me?" Luna replied with a sweatdrop as her fears about Ghetsis were starting to usurp.

"I'm not here for you. Or anyone else. I was just gravitated here by what I felt. I thought I'd come to find something worthwhile and take advantage of. But that's not the case." Ghetsis turned around as surprisingly, he wanted nothing to do with Luna at all. He'd rather be elsewhere.

"Wait!" Luna thought otherwise, halting Ghetsis. "You can't just leave outright. Not after everything you've done. We've been trying to reach you ever since you hid away at Universe 11...As if I'd waste this opportunity to try and detain you. I've already done it to these vampires."

"Are you sure you want to do this right now?" Ghetsis questioned before turning to face her. "These past 30 years are something that many shouldn't bother to try and tackle."

"I'm positive." Luna retained her steely resolve, deciding to tie up one more loose end before she gets to Galaxy Master. And that was stopping Ghetsis here and now. "I'll make sure you can never escape again!" She declared holding out a Poke Ball.

"So be it." Ghetsis would stay behind just for this. Out of his black coat, he revealed his arm and his Poke Ball, throwing it into the air. "Go, Hydreigon."

"Go, Aurorus!" Luna knew which Pokmon to use against Ghetsis' ace. She easily expected him to use Hydreigon first before anyone else as Aurorus and Hydreigon had entered the scene.

"Aurorus!"

"Hydreigon!"

"Freeze him over with this, Aurorus! Ice Beam, now!"

"Auro...!" Aurorus was going in for a full-on super-effective attack without wasting any time. Her opponent was Ghetsis so it had to be taken seriously no matter what as Luna was expecting Ghetsis to use his magic in this.

"Hydreigon. Dark Pulse."

"Hy...Drei...!" Hydreigon would respond in kind. By cocking all three of his heads back, he built up darkness from within, channelling his dark thoughts. All those dark thoughts became power before being unleashed in the form of spiralling black and dark purple waves.

And as soon as they emerged, at unprecedented speeds, Dark Pulse immediately obliterated Ice Beam. It was barely a contest. Aurorus gasped as she was consumed by this darkness but it wouldn't be just her. The speed it moved at not only gave it little time to crush her Ice Beam and consume her but it would also have enough time to reach Luna.

Princess Luna, flabbergasted by this, was quick to try and put a defensive shield. Dark Pulse reached her right as she made the shield, brutally attacking it as Luna was taken aback. Dark Pulse came to an end as quickly as it arrived, finishing off by turning into a black dome, covering Luna and Aurorus in it respectively. It didn't leave any destruction surprisingly once it fizzled out, but what it did leave was the downed body of Aurorus.

"A-Aurorus..." Aurorus dropped to the ground, fainting with just one attack.

"I-Impossible..." Luna almost fell to the ground as her barrier was cracked, failing to defend against it. But at least she managed to stay conscious. "Aurorus..."

"I told you I don't have time to deal with you." Ghetsis replied, returning Hydreigon. Luna breathed in and out as there were tatters all over her just from one Dark Pulse. Withstanding it could be seen as a miracle, almost. Getting back up seemed to be troublesome as well as the Princess of the Night growled at Ghetsis.

"How...? How'd you get like this?" Luna lowered her head, trying to make sense of this great jump in strength that Ghetsis obtained. "I can't lose here..."

"Of course you won't. Your determination to get back up will let you persevere until something victorious can be claimed. But for now...stay down and accept your loss. I'm headed to Unova." Ghetsis walked off. "There's something I need to do. I should've done this a long time ago,"

"Why don't you just finish me off here while you have the chance?" Luna questioned, noticing how Ghetsis left without doing much. He just showed up, defeated Luna and simply decided to leave. "What is this all about?"

Ghetsis had a reason. And the unknown dimension was to thank for that as he faced Luna once more. He didn't say much before continuing to walk off. As for Luna, she dropped to the ground, finally unable to stay steady. All she could do was keep those chains active and watch Ghetsis leave as Officer Jenny and her forces were on their way.

"I'm coming home. And I'll rebuild what I left and lost back there." Ghetsis said to himself, having something new on his mind. "And as for you Luna...I can't rush things now. Besides, you have friends by your side who will come for you. Won't they?"

Princess Luna, Suffering a shocking defeat, could only watch as Ghetsis was headed to Unova. What could he be shooting for and what was he trying to rebuild at where he considers home? Time would tell as the journey continues.
