Wait, we were practising?

Unova. Undella Town. The Pokemon Festival. Day.

Right now over at Undella Town, Cynthia and Celestia would engage in a quick practice battle for the sake of Celestia getting adjusted to her newest Pokemon, caught from Vast Poni Canyon. Totem Kommo-o. They had their Poke Balls out and all they had to do was throw them to begin the practice. The people here at Undella Town stopped what they were doing just to see Cynthia battle.

"First for everything. I haven't battled with more than two Pokemon ever." Celestia looked at Totem Kommo-o's Ultra Ball before throwing it into the air. "But here I go! Kommo-o, please come out!"

"Kommo-o!" Here he was. Totem Kommo-o. In tip-top shape and ready to throw down against whatever Pokemon would appear. Granted, Kommo-o is a Pokemon that prefers to battle strong opponents and is most likely to avoid battling weak opponents. Lucky, all of Cynthia's Pokemon were strong. Stupidly strong, one might say.

"Then here! Kommo-o!" Cynthia would fight Kommo-o with Kommo-o, sending her own out. Her Kommo-o was a regular-sized Kommo-o, making Celestia's the bigger one. But size wasn't everything.

"Who is that by the way? Doesn't she look a lot like that princess from Equestria?" A swimmer spoke to one of the people here, pointing out Celestia's appearance. It was so different from everyone else's and that crown was strikingly similar to Celestia's regalia. Even her mane.

"She does. You don't think it's actually her, right?"

"This'll only take a few minutes or less. Just to get you adjusted. You've only ever done practice battles, correct?" Cynthia asked.

"That's right. I practice with my sister but I've never had a proper full-on battle before. Maybe one day I'll get to have it. But right now...who should make the first move?" Celestia vigorously pointed at Cynthia as any of them could attack first and initiate the practice session.

"You should come at me first Tia." Cynthia encouraged her friend to go first as Kommo-o performed a gesture that was also encouraging the opposing Totem Kommo-o to do the same.

"Right but uh...just one moment!" Abruptly, Princess Celestia put the battle on pause before it could even begin. She did this just to take out her Pokedex and hold it up to Kommo-o. "I just have to remember his moves from before and check them first. Sorry."

"Oh. Well, take your time." Cynthia allowed it. Celestia just got Kommo-o and remembering his moves were crucial, no doubt. Everyone was surprised to see how she was forcibly taking her time to do this. As if they had zero hope for her in the beginning since she was facing Cynthia but now, she seems like a complete novice to them.

"Okay...Clanging Scales. Poison Jab and Flash Cannon and finally Close Combat. Alright! Now, I'm ready!" Once she read all the moves, she adjusted herself instantly.

"Splendid. Don't be shy. Attack me." Cynthia's eyes flared, prompting Celestia to take action.

"With pleasure! Go, Kommo-o! Strike hard with Close Combat!" Celestia started things off, thrusting her arm back and forth to replicate Close Combat. Cynthia would get to see how Celestia's movements helped her in battle.

"Ko!" Totem Kommoto rushed in, blowing some of the sand from his movements. Now it was up to Cynthia to respond accordingly to this opposing Kommo-o.

"Kommo-o. Outrage!"

"Kommo!" Instantly, Kommo-o retaliated by putting his arms up, covering them in a raging red aura that also gleamed from his eyes. Right when the opposing Totem Kommo-o came close, Cynthia's Kommo-o engaged in physical contact. Both Kommo-o, instead of hitting each other, locked claws as Totem Kommo-o came to a screeching halt.

It was a physical struggle for strength as both Pokemon were locked in a pushback exchange. One Kommo-o was trying to push back the other with their respective moves as neither had managed to hit the other yet. Even though Celestia's Kommo-o was a Totem one, size certainly wasn't the big factor here.

Seeing that they neither could push the other back, both Kommo-o had jumped away from each other, but their exchange would continue as Celestia's Kommo-o went in for a strong claw strike only for Cynthia's Kommo-o to not only block it with its tail, but it also ended up wrapping its tail around the opposing Scaly Pokemon's arm.

"Ko?!"

"Now, slam your fellow Kommo-o to the ground!"

"Kommo-o!" Cynthia's Kommo-o ended up slamming Celestia's Kommo-o to the ground, causing the sand to fly up from the heavy impact. That was a guaranteed super-effective hit as the Totem Kommo-o growled. However, Cynthia's Kommo-o didn't stop it there.

"Ko?!" It started spinning Celestia's Kommo-o, dragging him through the ground and causing sand to get in his eyes, which was very unpleasant.

"What do I do about this?!" Celestia growled, thinking of a way to escape this since Cynthia's Kommo-o had her Kommo-o in a bit of a compromising position. But Celestia was a fast thinker as she had a few options that came to mind. "That's it! Grab the ground and use Flash Cannon!"

Celestia shouted as she gave the spinning Kommo-o glances on what he could do to break free. She started by getting down and digging her fingers into the sand and opening her mouth, telling Kommo-o to do the same. The people watching this battle observed Celestia's movements and how she was she was pulling off this pose. It was odd to them but entertaining and interesting as well.

"K-Ko!" Kommo-o caught glimpses of this. He was already aware that Celestia loved to battle this way due to the battle against Gardevoir. So seeing Celestia do these actions gave him the right action to execute. Kommo-o did just that, using the strength of Close Combat to smash his claws into the ground.

He managed to get them deep in the sand, causing Cynthia's Kommo-o to suddenly feel an abrupt halt. Cynthia's Kommo-o lost its momentum from all its spinning, stopping in a 180 degrees direction. After it had been interrupted, Totem Kommo-o released a beam of silver energy that hit the ground. The result was a sliver explosion that not only hit the opposing Kommo-o but even the original user of the attack.

Both Kommo-os were blown back by the silver explosion, releasing the tail grip. They both fell over, rolling on the sand as now Cynthia's Kommo-o got sand in her eyes as payback.

Cynthia had already seen how quickly Celestia could think when in a compromising position. And especially for a Pokemon she just recently befriended. However, Cynthia wanted t keep this battle going for a bit longer just to see what else Celestia could do. From her experience, Celestia had the skills of a prodigy, despite coming from a completely different world.

These prodigal skills had to be revealed.

"Now, Clanging Scales!" Celestia had clapped her hand, using her magic to replicate a sonic sound. And since Cynthia's Kommo-o was confused thanks to the effects of Outrage, Celestia's Kommo-o could get a free hit in.

"Hit yourself with Sky Uppercut!" But Cynthia had an answer for that too. A way to break out of Kommo-o's confusion.

"Ko!" A direct smash to its own face and the confusion had been eliminated. Quick and efficient. At the same time, Celestia's Kommo-o folded his arms before then unfolding them, sending blue shockwaves towards his fellow Scaly Pokemon.

Cynthia's Kommo-o received a super-effective hit from these shockwaves, causing it to stagger, but not fall over. Totem Kommo-o couldn't make the opposing Dragon-FIghting-Type fall over again like before as Cynthia's Kommo-o was showing more of its strength gradually.

"Now, blaze through it with Flamethrower!" Cynthia shouted, holding her hand out. Kommo-o's eyes flashed for a split second as flames were flaring up in its mouth.

"Mo-o!" Out of its mouth, Cynthia's Kommo-o unleashed a powerful stream of fire that was so strong that it even burnt through Kommo-o's scales. Celestia's Kommo-o was blown back once he was engulfed by the ferocious flames as it beat out his signature attack.

"Ko!" Kommo-o cried out before falling on his back, groaning. Celestia gasped, believing that Clanging Scales would've won that exchange just by Kommo-o's biology alone. But that wasn't the case. As she had a stunned expression, she got to see how exceptionally strong Cynthia was.

"Kommo-o! Are you alright?!" Celestia bellowed as Kommo-o could still stand. But he was already on the losing side, holding his head once standing up. He growled, shaking his head while also hunching over, showing that a few more hits might finish him off. So soon too.

"Hm. I suppose with such a new Pokemon...she wouldn't get too far." Cynthia closed her eyes, expecting Celestia to go further. But that wasn't the case. "Oh well. It's a start. Let's finish this practice battle, Kommo-o! Outrage!"

"Kommo-o!" Cynthia and her Kommo-o were ready to end this right here and now. This practice session would seemingly come to an end and Celestia certainly didn't want that. Not when she wanted to grow with Kommo-o. She wanted this growth and session to last longer as the opposing Kommo-o was approaching. As for everyone else watching this, they expected this much from the result.

"No...I want to enjoy it a bit longer!" But Celestia refused to let it end here. Her eyes flashed a beautiful divine yellow as the same went for Totem Kommo-o's eyes. "Get ready, Kommo-o!"

"Ko!"

"Oh?" Cynthia's eyes opened up a small bit. Something had reignited in Celestia already. Perhaps, she had more to show before it could end. Or rather, she was going to make it wouldn't end as quickly as Celestia and everyone else were thinking.

"Give it a taste of its own medicine! Close Combat!" Celestia suddenly smashed her fists together as Cynthia was wondering what that meant.

"Ko-Ko!" But Totem Kommo-o knew very clearly what this meant. And it was all thanks to the light that was gleaming in his eyes and Celestia's eyes. The second Cynthia's Kommo-o came in swinging, instead of hitting back, Celestia's Kommo-o had used his opponent as a means of counterattacking.

He swayed to the side from one of the incoming claw swipes before then using the strength of Close COmbat to knock Cynthia's Kommo-o's claw back at it.

"M-Mo?!" Cynthia's Kommo-o had its claw redirected towards its face, causing it to receive damage from its own attack which caused super-effective damage in the process. Cynthia was amazed as Celestia used Kommo-o's method of breaking out of confusion to her advantage.

"Ko!" Totem Kommo-o then did the same for the other claw, making Celestia's hand gesture finally make sense as the other claw had been sent back at Cynthia's Kommo-o, dealing another super-effective impact.

"Yes! Now Flash Cannon!" Fangs had been bared by Celestia as the more enthusiasm and energy she was putting into this battle, the longer she was going on. Cynthia was starting to notice just how Celestia battles.

"Mo!" After stunning Cynthia's Kommo-o, Totem Kommo-o jerked his head back, gathering light energy before expelling it with his breath. The beam was large enough to engulf the opposing Kommo-o, sending it back as Celestia was still in this. Cynthia's Kommo-o was now the one to receive multiple hits as it slid back on the sand, growling.

Everyone else was surprised that Celestia was lasting this long against Kommo-o. They weren't even aware that this was a very recent Pokemon of hers.

"She can still go on..." Cynthia gawked. "But it's more than just her spirit being reignited. There's something else with her."

"It isn't over yet! Poison Jab! Let's leave an effect!" Celestia then viciously held her hands out and made them into claws, swiping at the air. She even put magic on her nails to replicate poison.

"Kommo-o!" Kommo-o went in, lacing his claws with poison as the opposing Kommo-o was now confused after using Outrage. But once again, it used Sky Uppercut to break the confusion without Cynthia having to tell it to do so. It just knew that it always had to be done in this scenario.

"Fight back, Kommo-o! Flamethrower!"

"Mo-o!" Kommo-o would quickly try and affect Totem Kommo-o first before any potential poison could come through by unleashing a stream of scarlet flames.

"Cut through!" Celestia then swung her hand and sharp claws through the air in a forward motion.

"Ko!" Kommo-o followed suit. By using Poison Jab, he slashed the incoming flames. Surprisingly, with Celestia trembling her arm, this encouraged Kommo-o to add some strength to his arms. And with sheer power, he clashed right through the stream of flames, reaching his fellow Scaly Pokemon and delivering a strong slash to the face. Not only that, but the flames received a nice pattern that separated them thanks to Poison Jab.

"M-Mo?!"

"Flash Cannon! Up close and personal!" Celestia then mimicked a grabbing motion, nearly putting her heads together and opening her mouth.

"Kommo-o!" Kommo-o knew what to do as he grabbed his opponent's head. And this was easier since he was the bigger Pokemon due to being a Totem Pokemon. After that, he was ready to unleash Flash Cannon in his opponent's face holding him in place.

"Quick! Iron Head!"

"Ko!" But Cynthia's Kommo-o quickly retaliated by smashing its hardened head into the Totem Pokemon. Princess Celestia's Kommo-o had been interrupted before flinching right afterwards, receiving some knockback that garnered distance between the two of them.

"Not quite." Celestia grinned along with Kommo-o. It was astounding that they were surviving this long. And Cynthia was amazed by what she was seeing. Observing Celestia some more, she could finally understand what this kind of battling style was.

"So that's it. It's just like how she battles when she becomes Celestial-Gardevoir. Passion and her are one entity so they share one mind and one body to execute things perfectly. And in this case...the same thing is happening with Kommo-o." Cynthia figured it out.

Indeed, Celestia was battling as if she was fused with Kommo-o, much like how she fuses with Passion to create Celestial-Gardevoir. But this time, Celestia wasn't fused with anyone. Instead, she was in sync with her Pokemon's actions.

"But it's probably more than that. That light in her eyes and the magic that sometimes appears around her...That might be the Harmony Phenomenon taking place. That might be what allows her to be so in sync with such a new Pokemon."

When looking at Celestia, this golden light was previously much more visible during her battle against Kommo-o. She shared a strong bond with Passion, so it made sense why the light was so strong. But with a new Pokemon, it was faint but present.

"It's like she becomes the Pokemon itself."

"Don't zone out on me, Cynthia. I'm enjoying this too much!" Celestia said with a bright smile before cupping her hands and generating light magic within her palms. "Flash Cannon!"

"Kommo-o!" Kommo-o would fire Flash Cannon from his hands instead of his mouth this time as he mimicked the motions of Princess Celestia.

"I never zone out! Flamethrower!"

"Ko! Kommo!" Cynthia's Kommo-o retaliated accordingly, unleashing Flamethrower from its mouth as these two attacks would clash with one another. A fierce clash of elements had occurred. Fire and Light Energy. It was a strong struggle, blowing away the sand from their equal ferocities as they tied in strength. After the attacks blew up in front of each other, Cynthia and Celestia were ready to capitalize.

"Close Combat!" Celestia leaned forward, prompting her Kommo-o to run through the smoke. She then swung her arm downwards, causing Kommo-o to do the same when approaching his fellow Scaly Pokemon.

"Sky Uppercut!" Cynthia retaliated instantly as her Kommo-o swung its arm up with such strength, it summoned a whirlwind around it. Both claws had clashed, resulting in some sparks that flew around. The force of Sky Uppercut launched Kommo-o upwards but the exchange wasn't over.

Celestia stomped her foot, prompting Kommo-o to come diving down with a downward kick. Cynthia's Kommo-o gasped before receiving a hard foot stomp from above that went straight to the dome of its head. Everyone felt that as the impact had some stellar weight to it.

"That's it! Let's end this now! Ring Clanging Scales in its ears!" Celestia then hugged herself by putting her arms on her shoulders. That made Celestia's Kommo-o give Cynthia's Kommo-o a bear hug, restraining it.

"Ko?!" After restraining his fellow Scaly Pokemon, he already manipulating the scales around his body, bringing about a devastating sound. And since it was so up close, Celestia-s Kommo-o received heavy super-effective damage as well as some pain to its ears. The shocks caused an explosion to emerge that masked them both. Everyone else apart from the two trainers closed their eyes as Cynthia's Kommo-o flew out of the smoke.

"Ko...Kommo-o..." When dropping to the ground after emerging out of the smoke, it was clear that Cynthia's Kommo-o received the brunt of it all. And by taking that much damage, Totem Kommo-o had fainted, shocking everyone.

Celestia had defeated one of Cynthia's Pokemon and with such a great comeback too.

"Haha! Success!" Celestia pumped her fist in the air. "That did the trick didn't it?"

"It certainly did. Return, Kommo-o. And thank you" Cynthia returned her Kommo-o before smiling. Everyone couldn't believe that Celestia defeated one of Cynthia's Pokemon. Only trainers from the Masters 8 had even done so. And here was Princess Celestia, pulling through.

But instead of ending things here since it was just meant to be a practice battle, Cynthia continued. Holding out her next Poke Ball and throwing it to the skies. "How's this then?!"

"Togekiss!" Out came her Togekiss, who immediately twirled in the sky for style points.

"Togekiss...That might be a problem." Celestia narrowed her eyes at the Jubilee Pokemon. Apart from that, very soon, these two had forgotten that this was meant to be short and sweet. But since Cynthia was getting pumped up by this and especially Celestia, they completely forgot why they were doing this in the first place.

So much for a practice session. Now it had become a serious battle.

"Return for now, Kommo-o!" And much like a serious battle, Celestia returned her Kommo-o to let him get some rest. She was already prepared to swap him out for someone else. She looked back at Arcanine, nodding at him.

"Arcanine!" Arcanine ran past Celestia, getting in front of her as he would take centre stage.

"Uh...I thought this was just meant to be a practice battle." A young boy brought it up as he finally decided to speak among the crowd. Once those words came out, both Cynthia and Celestia gasped.

As if they had been snapped back to reality and out of their respective heads, they soon remembered why they were doing this. They blinked for a bit before looking back at everyone and their Pokemon.

"O-Oh. We were practising?" Celestia held her head as her crown almost fell off. "Were we, Cynthia?"

"Oops." Cynthia put her hand over her mouth. "That's right. I didn't even remember that. Slipped our mind."

"I suppose so." Celestia laughed, which prompted Cynthia to laugh too. The spirit of a Pokemon battle can do that to someone. They can get so into it that they forget everything else. Such was the beauty of a Pokemon Battle.

"But, thanks to this battle, I've discovered something amazing from you, Celestia." Cynthia walked up before returning Togekiss to its Poke Ball. "I'm not sure even you know it."

"Know what?"

"Your battling style. Does it come naturally to you? The way you battle seems to be similar to when you're Celestial-Gardevoir. Did you plan that?"

"Well, I suppose it does come to me naturally. Being Celestial-Gardevoir a few times gave me a few changes but they only exist for battling. When I first battled with Arcanine as a human, I just felt a natural instinct to do some of these poses. They make me look cool too." She squeed.

"Hm. But it's more than that. You improve so quickly it's surreal." Cynthia turned around, pondering for it. "You are a prodigy yes, but...I've never seen such a leap in power before."

"Oh well..." Celestia blushed. "My mom said I was an early grower in every category. I hope to improve with more Pokemon I end up catching in the future. And thank you for the battle. Um, I mean, practice session."

"It was a pleasure. Your majesty." Cynthia and Celestia shook hands as everyone applauded them both for the entertaining battle. Celestia had gained new respect from everyone here as well. "But, let's see how good you are at everything else."

"I was just thinking that. Come on. Let's take a dive! I want to see how good I can swim like this!" Celestia then pulled Cynthia with her.

"But you'll ruin your look, won't you?" Cynthia gasped, realizing that Celestia's stylish look could be drenched and unkempt.

"They don't call me the Princess of the Sun for nothing. I'll warm and clean myself up in time!"

"I'm not sure that's how heat works on clothes in this scenario..." Cynthia closed her eyes before chuckling. She certainly found a new friend. Someone that shared a lot in common with her. Being around Celestia at this time was pleasing to Cynthia and it was only going to get better from here on.

Sinnoh. Eterna City. The Pokemon Festival. Afternoon.

And meanwhile, over at Eterna City, the Cutie Mark Crusaders had found themselves here. The long-lasting Eterna City. An old city that shows fading and almost-forgotten vestiges of ancient history. But even so, they still existed and kept going.

As to be expected, they were greatly enjoying themselves here for ponies of their age. Everything was enjoyable as they were joined by Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon as well. They've been here since yesterday.

But during their fun, Scootaloo came across something interesting. History was brimming at Eterna City and at this time, photos had been recovered from the past. The people here celebrated their history, placing photos on a large banner that had been set up by some Vigoroths.

Even photos of the present were placed there. This large banner that was exceedingly long, acted as a sort of time capsule. Granted, it wasn't a capsule, but everyone placed these photos on these walls to preserve happy moments or even reminisce about them.

Some of them were even taking pictures of themselves to create new memorabilia. Some of them were a mix of humans and ponies, showing the friendship that both worlds had formed. This banner was large enough to probably hold all of the pictures from Eterna City and more. And if there was no more space, another banner would emerge.

But while this was all nice to look at and heartwarming, there was one picture that was too important to Scootaloo's eyes. She walked past the crowd of people, going up to the banner.

In that picture, there was one Pokemon that caught her interest. It looked like it was a part of the Cyndaquill evolution line. It even looked like a Typhlosion. But different.

Very different.

The young pegasus had come across a piece of history that she was about to learn herself, involving one of her own Pokemon.

As the journey continues.

Chapter 860 End.
