Ash Ketchum vs Rainbow Dash

Equestria. Canterlot. Day.

A stage had been set for two great friends to battle. Ash and Rainbow Dash. After having a close talk about each other's dreams and how one affects the other, they both agreed to have a battle. But not just any battle. This wasn't like their usual training sessions that they do together. Instead, this would be a serious battle where both of them would give it their all.

And what better place to have this battle than the Equestria League Stadium? But it wouldn't be as packed as it usually is. Their closest friends were here to view the battle along with a few Canterlot residents who wanted to watch this. It wouldn't be a spectacle at all but it would still be an enjoyable time.

"Hurry! I think it's about to start!" Arriving at the stadium was Spike as he had dragged Twilight along. In her hooves, Twilight had the cube that she, Zero and Starlight worked on. Speaking of Starlight, she would be present here but not Zero. "You're lucky that they're working on those suits here at Canterlot. That gives you plenty of time to watch this battle, doesn't it?"

"It does, but I'd also like to complete the process of making Technomagic," Twilight replied. "But this does sound fun and I can still spare some time."

"It won't hurt to do so," said Zero. "I can still work on it while this goes on."

"This is their first serious battle together?" Starlight added. "Would it be safe to be inside the stadium if that's the case? You know how destructive these battles get..."

"There's fewer of us around here so it won't be so-" Before Spike could finish his sentence, he would find himself bumping into a rocky substance. "Ough!"

"Oh! Sorry!" A voice would apologize to Spike once he fell over. This voice had an echo to it as it was near the rock. Or rather, in and out of the rock itself.

"It's fine..." Spike would then look up to see what he bumped into. Right then and there, the ghost of Pear Butter was the one being projected from this rock. The meteors from Meteor Mountain were brought here. Naturally, she was essentially a ghost as her spirit caught Spike off guard. He didn't expect to suddenly see her. "Gaha!

"My bad. Gave you a fright, didn't I?" She would once again apologize as Applejack brought over both meteors of her parents just for this one battle.

"What's up with this?" Zero naturally had questions about these spirits that were emanating out of the meteors.

"Oh, they're just spirits of Applejack's parents within meteors. Nothing too crazy." Starlight casually explained in the easiest way possible without even going into further detail.

"Alright then." And Zero wouldn't even try to comprehend it. He would simply go along with it, sitting down as if this was all casual. In a world that was so centred around magic, why wouldn't this be casual? "Anyway...We saw Giratina standing out there near the stairway. Why would it be there?"

"I heard something happened with Flurry Heart and she just left Giratina here," Fluttershy replied. "Apparently, Giratina might have to return to his universe and his own world."

"The Distortion World? Mm, that makes sense." Zero said. "You need Giratina to keep watch and rule over the Distortion World. Or else...the consequences will be vast, especially if Giratina is away from it for too long."

"Do you know what would happen if Giratina leaves it for too long, Zero?" Twilight asked.

"Believe me, Twilight. I do." Zero definitely knew exactly what kind of consequences this would bring. Aside from potentially Flurry Heart, no one here knew more about Giratina than him.

"Okay!" Raising his voice and starting others, Ash would put his fist in his palm, already showing the right amount of energy to start this battle. "We're both packing six Pokemon, so let's make it a full 6-on-6 battle! Thanks for being the Ref, Luna."

"Mm." For this, Luna would be the overseer of this battle, calling the shots. "You have as much time as you want. And by now, all the rules are clear to you, so you don't need to hear them from me."

"I'm ready, Ash. Do your best, please!" Rainbow Dash took her position, holding out her first Poke Ball.

"I always do my best!" Ash would then slide to his position as well, adjusting his gloves. The wind would sing for this imminent battle as everyone else here would make themselves comfortable. Pinkie Pie brought them all something to eat while they enjoy this battle, catering to everyone's tastes. Apart from Bright Mac and Pear Butter, for obvious reasons. On the plus side, this would be their first time viewing a Pokemon Battle from this position and scenario.

"Send out your Pokemon at once!"

"Pikachu! I Choose You!" Ash would start with his tried and true partner, Pikachu, who would hop off his shoulder to jump into the fray.

"Pikachu!"

"Go! Luxray!" Rainbow Dash would fittingly send out her own Electric-Type. Luxray would be up first.

"Luxray!"

"Are you ready, Luxray? This is our biggest moment yet before the Equestria League. A real battle with Ash." Rainbow Dash spoke before giving out a command. "We didn't practice for this but...we've been training alongside him for months now. So let's show him how far we've come."

"Lux!"

"Just be careful...we won't let you beat us." A glimmer appeared in Ash's eye as he wasn't intending on letting Rainbow Dash win this, even if the gap between them was large. Ash refuses to hold back or go easy on anyone. Even his closest friends are not an exception.

"Pika-Pikachu!"

"Oh yeah? Because I'm gonna try my best and beat you, Ash!" Rainbow Dash declared as she was looking to topple a paramount trainer such as Ash.

"Ray!"

"Alright. Now that you two have talked big...spend most of that energy on your battle. Battle Start!" Luna gave the call for the battle to begin.

"Alright, Pikachu! Use Quick Attack!"

"Pika! Pika-Pika-Pika" Pikachu runs as a white trail of energy emerged behind and around him. Sparks of lightning would flare out of his body in response to this swift movement.

"Look alive, Luxray! Use Ice Fang!"

"Lux...Ray!" Luxray would prepare for Pikachu's attack, enveloping his fangs in a chilling blue aura. Right as he did so, Pikachu crashed into him at full force, causing the Gleam Eyes Pokemon to stagger for a bit. "Lux!" But Luxray regained his composure right away, throwing his head forward to chomp on Pikachu's arm.

"Pi!" Pikachu grimaced as his arm was met with the bite of Ice Fang. The chill would run through his body as he was then thrown away by Luxray's head swing, flying through the air. "Pika?!"

"Now, Discharge!"

"Raaaay!" Luxray would follow up his attack. releasing numerous bolts of blue electricity from his body as they flew through the air, acting like violent whips.

"Counter with Thunderbolt!"

"Pika...Chuuu!" Pikachu would manage to recover midair, quickly retaliating with Thunderbolt. A flash of lightning would erupt from the Mouse Pokemon as 100,000 volts clashed with the flare of bolts. Both attacks cancelled each other out, littering the air with a combustion of energy. Pikachu would then drop down, landing safely on his feet.

"Are you looking good there, Luxray?" Rainbow Dash asked. Luxray would rustle his fur for a bit as he was still in peak condition right now, raring to continue. "Great! Let's go for an Iron Tail this time!"

"Lux...Ray!" Luxray advanced, hardening his tail with iron before approaching his fellow Electric-Type with an intimidating glare and bared fangs.

"Fight back with Iron Tail!"

"Chu...Pika!" Pikachu would respond with his own Iron Tail. By also hardening his tail, the Mouse Pokemon encountered the Gleam Eyes Pokemon and an immediate clash of tails ensued.

A fierce and reverberating clanging sound would emit from their collision. The impact shook parts of the ground while also creating a shockwave. Luna, who was nearby, would protect herself with a barrier from this shockwave. The two of them would then go back and forth, smashing their tails against each other. As always, a double Iron Tail clash always sounded like two swords going at it.

And usually, neither Iron Tail manages to come out on top. Pikachu and Luxray would swing as much as they could but they both managed to counter and evade each other's attacks. Eventually, they would both push each other back with neither being able to win the struggle.

"Let's wain him down with this! Use Wild Charge!"

"Lux...!" Luxray would growl before then flaring his body with a vibrant electrical aura. This aura would then be accompanied by the sudden take-off from the Gleam Eyes Pokemon, akin to a Thunderbolt.

"Pikachu! Makeshift Volt Tackle!"

"Pika-Pikachu!" Pikachu would move with Quick Attack while also combining it with another move. Once he took off, he used Thunderbolt on himself, enveloping his yellow body with 100,000 volts. This was to compensate for a lack of Quick Attack as he would rival Luxray's Wild Charge, resulting in another direct clash.

This time, it was a head-on collision between the two Electric-Types. The arena lit up with sparks of lighting flying everywhere. They would stare intensively at each other, pushing back and forth with all their strength. It looked like two lightning bolts were pushing against each other from a distance. That was how much light was covering them.

"Pika...!" But the one winning this struggle was Pikachu as he started pushing Luxray back. "Chu-Pi!" Eventually, Pikachu won the struggle, blowing Luxray back with his Makeshift Volt Tackle.

"L-Lux!" Luxray staggered and almost fell on his back from this blow. It left him somewhat bewildered as both Pokemon would suffer some recoil. Luxray, because of Wild Charge and Pikachu, because of how this attack perfectly replicated Volt Tackle.

"What an impact!" Goh shouted out. "Luxray looks like he could fall here!"

"Luxray?!" Rainbow Dash gasped, fearing that Luxray would go down this early on. But hearing Rainbow Dash's cry prompted Luxray to keep his balance.

"R-Ray!" He grit his teeth, cocking his body forward. He was not down and out yet.

"Okay! Return, for now, Pikachu!" Ash would call back Pikachu. So far, Pikachu had a slight edge, dealing the most hits to Luxray. "Great work out there."

"Pika."

"So far so good." Rainbow Dash sighed. "Nothing too crazy yet...I just gotta see who he'll bring out next."

Watching this battle, Bright Mac and Pear Butter were getting excited. All the lightning-fast movements, the powerful vocal commands and the flash of energies going around were all too enthralling.

This battle would start to attract more ponies from all the crashing thunder. Watching from the balcony would be Celestia, who was already eyeing down this battle from the start. However, the battle wasn't enough to get her mind off of Flurry Heart's current emotions. The words from Flurry Heart rang in her ears.

"Can't we just send another Giratina there?! "I get that the universe could suffer without Giratina but...but I don't want him to go."

"It's for the safety of that universe. Making that alliance meant that every other world would be safe from any further harm. That goes for the Pokemon World." Celestia spoke to herself. "But..."

"Alright! Gengar, I choose you!" Ash had already selected his next Pokemon. This time it would be the Shadow Pokemon Gengar.

"Gengar!"

"Gengar, huh...?" Rainbow Dash uttered quietly, narrowing her eyes at the Ghost-Poison-Type. "He's gonna be tricky like always. But I've got my eye on him. Especially Luxray."

"Hm." For a moment, Ash would smirk, giving Rainbow Dash a slight scare. That smirk meant that he was up to something. And if there was one thing anyone facing Ash should fear, it was his unpredictable strategies. "Gengar! Shadow Ball!"

"Intercept with Discharge!"

"Gen...!" From one hand, Gengar would conjure up an eerie blob of shadows while giving a wicked smile to Luxray. But at the same time, and with a bit of an advantage in unleashing this attack, Luxray would emit flares of electricity from his body.

"Lux!" Luxray managed to shock the Shadow Pokemon with Discharge before he could throw the attack, getting the first hit in.

"G-Gengar!" But even though Gengar was pushed back by the shock, he still managed to unleash Shadow Ball. In fact, the first one would be a decoy. He would immediately summon up a second ball once the first one travelled to Luxray.

"Incoming! Smash 'em with Iron Tail!"

"Ray!" Luxray would lunge at the Shadow Ball, performing an overhead smash with his tail. The ball found itself being crushed by Luxray's tail as he even managed to split it in half. However, he wasn't quick enough to hit the second one. It already reached him, passing through the black and smoke and crashing into the Gleam Eyes Pokmon. "L-Lux!"

The black smoke would then envelop Luxray who flew through the air once more. Everyone gasped, thinking that this could be Luxray's downfall. But surprisingly, Luxray would still stand strong, sliding on the ground the second he was close to it. The Electric-Type's stubbornness and persistence was just as powerful as his ferocity. Just like his Trainer.

"Yes! You're amazing, Luxray!" Rainbow Dash cheered for Luxray after seeing how strong he stood. Even Ash had to acknowledge this resistance.

"Nice." Ash nodded in approval. Then, the shadow of Sombra would poke out, commenting on this battle.

"I thought you said you weren't holding back. She shouldn't even be lasting this long against you with one Pokemon." Sombra questioned.

"I'm not holding back. Rainbow Dash is tough after all. And I've gotta see what else she does. Gengar! Ice Punch on the ground!"

"Gen...Gar!" With a smash to the ground by a chilling fist, Gengar would cause a flash-freeze. The terrain of this arena would change rapidly, bringing an icy stage. Luxray gasped as the ice already reached him at stupendous speeds, affecting his feet.

"Not this...!" Rainbow Dash had seen this kind of strategy multiple times before. The Ice Ground Strategy was nothing to ignore as it can be very efficient when used by certain trainers. And in the case of Ash Ketchum, the efficiency was at an all-time high. "Smash it all with Iron Tail!"

"Lux!" But there was already a way to get rid of this chilling ground. And that was from breaking it apart with brute force. Iron Tail was a splendid pick as Luxray would raise his tail, ready to crush it all.

"Psychic! Move him around!"

"Gar!" But Gengar was prepared for this. By using Psychic, he would outline Luxray's tail in a purple aura, interrupting his attack process.

"L-Lux!" Luxray would then find himself being moved across the ice, unwillingly sliding on it. Gengar would specifically drag Luxray's face on the ice to cause most of the damage, chipping away at it. Luxray's voice was continuously staggering with each hit as he was getting ice inside of his mouth.

"Harsh!" Pinkie Pie grimaced. This was certainly one of Ash's rougher strategies. And Luxray could certainly feel every single roughness that came with it. "Come on, Luxray! You've done so well this entire time, so show us something greater!" She would then cheer him on along with many others who were getting into this battle which was still early.

"You heard her, Luxray! Don't let this get to you! Ice Fang on the ground!"

"L-Lux...Ray!" Luxray roared before encasing his teeth in ice. It would be Ice vs Ice as Luxray would immediately counter Gengar's control with his teeth sinking into the ground.

"Gen?" Gengar would find his control being slowed down instantly. Thanks to those sharp fangs, Luxray, in a rather compromising position that resembled the letter C but from the other side, would keep himself glued to the ground, surprising Ash.

"Ouch..." Twilight could feel the pain from Luxray's teeth being in the cold hard ground. "But, it kept Gengar's Psychic at bay."

"Awesome stuff! But...Pull him out, Gengar!"

"Gengar!" But Gengar would persist, putting more power into his Psychokinetic hold. He attempted pulling Luxray up as the Gleam Eyes Pokemon would only suffer more pain in his teeth. He growled as his teeth were being viciously pulled along with his entire body. He stayed adamant on the ground but that only forced Gengar to try harder.

"Luxray's in a bad position here..." Rainbow Dash gulped before thinking as hard as she could to try and get out of this predicament. "Unless...Luxray! Flash freeze the whole thing! Add more ice!"

"More ice? Why?" Rarity wondered. "Is it to keep Luxray there longer?"

"L-Lux!" Luxray went a step further than just glueing his teeth to the ground. He would use the chilling aura of Ice Fang to create a new flash-freeze. Once again, the arena was frozen over but with the addition of more ice, the layer got thicker and stronger as large ice spikes would then erupt from the ground in response to this second layer.

The spikes would rise up from Gengar's excessive pulling, flying in his direction. Just as planned by Rainbow Dash. Gengar gasped before being hit by the spikes. "G-Gar!"

"Yes, it worked!" Rainbow Dash laughed. "Awesome work, Luxray!"

"Yeah. That was awesome." Ash nodded in approval. Rainbow Dash was also fairly good at thinking outside the box when it came to difficult instances. This was mainly due to how she had watched Ash's battles and how he uses unorthodox tactics to overcome his opponent and throw them off guard. "But we're stopping Luxray's rampage here and now! Gengar! Descend!"

"Gengar!" Gengar would then make himself intangible, descending into the cold ground. IN this state, Gengar was exempt and immune from the cold, allowing him to move without any limitations. Luxray would then reposition himself, removing his teeth from the ground at last. And there wasn't even a single toothache that came from this.

Gengar was now underground, waiting for the right moment to strike and Ash's next command. The Gleam Eyes Pokemon snarled, flaring his face with electricity to show his guard.

"Gengar could show up anywhere...it's all a matter of if we're fast enough to see him coming." The pegasus thought to herself as the stadium went silent for a bit. "But there's one way to see him down there...Luxray! Do what you do best!"

"Ray." Looking back at Rainbow Dash, Luxray knew exactly what she meant. Luxray would use his signature X-Ray Vision. If there was ever a time when this would be useful in a battle, against a Ghost-Type who was moving underground, this was a perfect moment.

His eyes would illuminate a beautiful blue colour as he would avert them to the ground. And just like that, with striking ease, he managed to spot the moving body of Gengar which was constantly swaying back and forth, zigzagging randomly to try and trick the Gleam Eyes Pokemon.

"Great work using Luxray's special trait. I figured you'd do that," said Ash. "But can you react in time?! Night Shade!"

"Gen...!" Underground, Gengar would speed up. But this time, someone could see his actions as Luxray would carefully eye down the Shadow Pokemon's direction.

"Get ready...!" Rainbow Dash couldn't see him at all, but she trusted Luxray to anticipate him at the right time.

"Gar!" Finally, he emerged from the ground, right beside Luxray. Gengar fired a dark crimson beam, outlined in red, blue and purple from his eyes, going for a side attack.

"Discharge!"

"Lux...Ray!" Right as the beam approached him, the electricity from Luxray's face was already fully charged, soon turning into a full-powered electrical aura. The two attacks would clash but Luxray's collision was closer than Gengar's. The attacks would explode around each other as it was mainly Luxray who was engulfed by the explosion. Gengar would only find himself being slightly pushed back.

Rainbow Dash would onto her Mega Evolution Goggles from the explosion as it nearly pushed her back. Ash was sternly staring at the explosion while holding onto his hat and barely moving. The way both trainers reacted to the outbursts was perfectly represented by how each Pokemon turned out.

Gengar was fine. He only felt the shockwave of it. But as for Luxray, he was at the crux of the combustion, being too late to intercept, despite his special trait. Once the smoke cleared, the Gleam Eyes Pokemon would faint. He battled valiantly and that could not be ignored.

"Luxray..."

"Luxray is unable to battle! Gengar wins!" Luna declared the first loss of this battle. But even though Luxray lost, he received great respect from everyone else, just from how persistent he was. Applauds from ponies and Pokemon would come in, showing Luxray with praise.

They've all seen their fair share of stubborn Pokemon. Most of Ash's Pokemon and Twilight's Absol were great examples of that. And Luxray had now cemented himself among that group of Pokemon that were too stubborn to easily take out.

"Do you hear them, Luxray? You were awesome to everyone. Return." Rainbow Dash would return the Gleam Eyes Pokemon, congratulating him for a job well done. "Thank you."

"Just like an actual lion...Amazing." Scootaloo said. "Luxray's so cool!"

"Luxray...what a guy!" Pinkie Pie sent out showers of tears, proud of Luxrays' efforts. "But Rainbow Dash lost her first Pokemon. Can she get past all of Ash's Pokemon?"

"Honestly...I'm not so sure." Goh couldn't answer that properly. From how it appeared at the moment, the roles were reversed. Usually, Ash was always facing off against a staggeringly powerful foe, trying to overcome them.

But now, Ash was the staggeringly powerful foe and Rainbow Dash was the one trying to overcome him. And Ash knew this. From all of his battles, it was rare for him to become the equivalent of this towering force that he's battled throughout the years. He first experienced it with Scootaloo and now Rainbow Dash was in this position.

"So that's how it feels, huh?" Ash said to himself, finally knowing how the Gym Leaders and other Skilled Trainers he's met in the past felt when battling him. By now, this stadium was starting to fill up as more and more would appear swiftly. Now, the Golden Stairway was not the main attraction but this battle. Any battle involving Ash was appealing to the eyes.

"Okay...I'm just getting warmed up, Ash!" Rainbow Dash held out her next Poke Ball. "Get ready for what's coming next, okay? Go! Altaria!"

"Altaria!" Ataria was the second Pokemon to arrive, letting out her beautiful melody upon entering.

"Prepare yourself, Altaria! We won't let him get ahead of us! Not now or ever! Let's beat him and show everyone what we're made of!"

"Tari!"

"Hm. Return, for now, Gengar." Ash would then return Gengar, choosing to swap him out. With a quick movement of his hands, he would already have the next Poke Ball out and ready, launching it upwards. "Dracovish! I choose you!"

"Dracovish!" Dropping from the skies was the Fossil Pokemon and Apex Predator of its time. Dracovish. It would be a full-on Dragon Battle at this point between the past and the present. And there was one more Dragon in Ash's team that was waiting to show up.

The Battle between Ash and Rainbow Dash was in its infancy but it was already starting to heat up. The amazing and fierce wall that was Ash Ketchum was something Rainbow Dash aimed to try and surpass, which seemed impossible to everyone here at Equestria who looks up to Ash.

But to Rainbow Dash and even Ash, nothing was impossible. Rainbow Dash aimed to prove it and Ash wished to see her reach and break through that wall of impossibility. And all of this was the perfect way to prepare for the Final Eight Gym Badge as the journey continues.
