Day 7: Last hours of the Festival
Day 7 of the Pokemon Festival.
The final day. And the group have decided to head back to Ponyville for the last day. They had definitely had their fun over at Canterlot and the Crystal Empire, especially after the events that occurred during the festival. From Chrysalis to Adagio, the discovery of Queen Pyrestar and the Multiverses and finally the board game world. Needless to say, this festival won't be forgotten to them at all. And heading back to Ponyville is what they needed. A peaceful moment.
"It's a shame the festival is about to come to an end." Fluttershy sighed. "But I still had a lot of fun either way."
"Yeah. We did a lot. More than I saw coming." Rainbow Dash slumped back on her train seat.
"What did you two end up doing? Sonata, Aria." Twilight turned to the two siren sisters.
"We did a lot of stuff at the festival! More than you can imagine really." Sonata put her hoof around Aria.
"And every second of it was torture. But...I did kind of like that Dance Inferno attraction." Aria responded, trying to act like she didn't have much fun. But in reality, she actually enjoyed herself. The most fun she's had in years.
"I can't wait till we get you to Ponyville, Jade!" Pinkie smiled at her emotionless friend. "We're gonna find you a nice place to live in and teach you all about friendship! In the best ways, we know how!"
"Can't wait." Jade replied with a monotone voice.
"I can't wait for my upcoming Gym Battle at Fillydelphia. My Pokemon and I have grown ever since our third gym." said Rainbow Dash.
"Well, I'm more excited about returning back to my boutique over at Kalos. It has been a while since I've checked up on my employees there." Rarity spoke.
"For me, it's increasing the Pokemon House. With more Pokemon coming along, it wouldn't hurt to increase the capacity." Fluttershy commented. "It might end up looking like a mansion at the end of it all."
"I ain't really doing anything new. Just gonna continue work at home. Although, Rainbow Dash said she'd help find a Pokemon of my own." Applejack said.
"Well, I'm on the same page as Twilight. I want to evolve my Goomy as soon as possible." Spike uttered.
"Seems we know what we want to keep doing. And I know one pony who'll be involved with me." Twilight turned to Cold Colt's seat as the young unicorn turned back to her.
"Hm? Me?" He put his hoof on his chest.
"Yes. Now that your magic can be used for good thanks to Togetic's joy dust, I can help you improve on your magic. It'll be a cinch, don't worry about it. And I'll be the best teacher anypony could ever ask for." Twilight smiled.
"And we're going to head home to our universe once this festival is over." Rosestar said, turning to her friend Cocoa.
"Aww...I wish we got here sooner. We only got to experience a few days." Cocoa sighed.
Unbeknownst to them, the entire group was being followed by Nyx, who had tracked down the one who opening dozens of gateways to other universes with magic. She had disguised herself, sitting at a faraway seat, but with enough distance to see Cold Colt.
"That's the pony. The one who opened up the gateways." She whispered. "But how? Magic can't access Planewalking or any dimensional travel. Let alone opening up hundreds of Unless he's somehow connected to the Rift." She continued to keep a low profile, watching them closely. But more so, she had also noticed Twilight, a familiar face in her own universe. She wanted to talk to her, but she was here for important business so any idle chat was not needed.
The train arrived at Ponyville finally. Everypony coming from the Crystal Empire and Canterlot immediately got off to return back home. The young fillies and colts were the first to hop off along with some Pokemon and humans. Ash, Rainbow Dash, and Twilight got off the train next, taking in that sweet Ponyville air.
"Aah. Ponyville. It's good to feel your cool breeze again!" Rainbow Dash spread her hooves out, feeling the wind flow through her and move her mane.
"It's always a truly wonderful feeling to come back here." Rarity hopped off.
"Welcome to your new home, Jade! You're gonna have the best moments ever!" Pinkie bellowed, still having her hoof around her deadpan friend. "I'll let Mayor Mare see if she can lend you a place to live at." Pinkie suddenly gasped, realising something. "Or maybe, you can live with me! We can share beds!"
"Do friends share beds?" Jade asked.
"Of course! Especially if its a bunk bed. The best kind." Pinkie replied. "Now come on. Let's enjoy the last day of the festival as much as we can."
The group and everyone else made their way to Ponyville to continue the final days of the Pokemon Festival and Nyx kept on keeping a close eye on Cold Colt. She would reveal herself once they arrive in the populated Ponyville. But what also caught her interest were Cocoa and Rosestar. They came from another universe as well.
At Ponyville, the festival was much tamer compared to the larger locations. Not only that, but it seemed like some of the stuff there had been packed up early. Huge events like these always simmer down on the final day. There was only one attraction, the Tug of War by Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee. Some of the group had decided to head back to their homes, specifically Rarity and Applejack. The rest were going to participate on this last day, outside.
But before, they could split up, Nyx finally decided to show herself as she approached Cold Colt who was with them all. Twilight turned her head, being the first to spot Nyx. And what she was another fellow alicorn, just right in front of them.
"Who are you?" Twilight called out as the others turned their heads as well, spotting the new pony.
"Another alicorn? What is she the princess of?" Rarity wondered.
"You." Nyx stopped, looking over at Cold Colt and pointing her hoof at him.
"M-me?" The young pony replied.
"I need you to answer me one question. How is it possible that you opened up hundreds of gateways?" She asked.
"Wait. Are you from another universe as well?" Fluttershy asked.
"Yes. But that's not important right now. What IS important is how he did it with magic of all things.."
"Isn't it possible to perform it with magic though?" said Twilight.
"No. It's impossible mo- I mean, Twilight Sparkle." Nyx almost slipped by calling Twilight, mom.
"Were you about to say, mom?" Cocoa popped her head out of the group.
"Forget what I was about to say. What I am trying to say is that magic cannot access Planewalking. It is impossible." Nyx recovered.
"Impossible? But we saw it with our very own eyes. It was crazy! There were gateways everywhere with so many universes." Pinkie exclaimed.
"That's exactly why I'm here. To deal with that issue."
"Hold on." Twilight flew forward. "Cold Colt was only doing it to help an alternate Celestia and Luna return back to their own universe. We used the endless power of Victini to skyrocket his magic, which is why multiple gateways opened up. I'm sure Cold Colt didn't know there were consequences if there are any."
"Oh no. It's not just that he opened up the gateways. It's that he did it with magic. Magic cannot access that kind of power. It is beyond its reach. The only thing that comes close to it is dimensional travel because it is associated with magic. The only way he could ever even cause universal travel is that if he had cosmic energy flowing through him."
"Well, you're in for a surprise. Because he actually does!" Pinkie Pie patted Cold Colt in the back. This grabbed Nyx's attention even more.
"He does? How?" She leaned forward, narrowing her eyes.
"Cold Colt's a pony created by the Rift. He's basically made out of cosmic energy and dust." Ash explained.
"So that's how you did it. I had no idea that the Rift could create beings that fit our world." Nyx was taken aback by this. "It's certainly a step above what happened in my universe."
"What did happen in your universe?" Fluttershy asked.
"In my version of Equestria, the Rift arrived to do what it does best. It ended up bringing over different beings from other universes vastly different from ours. Meaning that they did not fit our world at all. And I can see that it did the same here." Nyx looked over at Ash, Pikachu, the Pokemon and the humans. "But I was unaware of it being able to do this."
"Ooh. So you've crossed over with another world? Tell us more!" Pinkie and Sonata leaned in.
"Well, I have no memory of what happened. After all, once the Rift returns both worlds to normal, memories of what occurred vanish for everypony. The only thing left is a vague fuzzy memory of these colour-coded humans in costumes. And some ponies even have memories of the Rift still, as if it cannot leave their minds. Such as I."
"Well, how did you get here, darling? If magic can't access universal travel, then how did you manage to end up in our universe?" Rarity asked.
"I didn't use any magic, obviously. But when he opened up all those gateways, I saw this version of Equestria through it. All the other portals closed, but mine remained open even after a few days. In fact, it is still open in the Frozen North."
"Then it's settled. This whole problem is solved then?" Applejack said.
"Not yet. Because this isn't the only reason I'm here. Him, I can understand. But how is it that possible for you two?" Nyx looked over to Cocoa and Rosestar. "Unless you're Rift Ponies as well?"
"Us? Nah! We're just average ponies from our own world." Cocoa answered.
"So you don't have any cosmic energy flowing through you?"
"Nope. Because in our world, magic CAN travel through universes." Cocoa responded.
"Huh?!" Nyx was taken aback even more. "You mean to tell me there are universes where magic is capable of doing that?! I have to rethink this. I have to reorganise what I know!" Nyx sat down, taking all of this new information in.
"I don't think you need to. There's a perfectly good explanation for this." Twilight went up to Nyx as she looked up at her. "Every universe is different in what it does and how it works. Whether it be alternate versions of ours or even completely separate universes like Ash's world. And that means the way magic works can be different. Pokemon magic is vastly different compared to our way of magic. So it's safe to say that Cocoa and Rosestar's universe has a different approach to how they use magic as well. Hope that's easy to understand."
"Yes. I understand it. Pretty well even. This changes everything. I guess the term alternate universes isn't just for different appearances and outcomes huh?" Nyx laughed.
"Phew. Thought I was in trouble for a sec there." Cold Colt sighed.
"So, does this mean you'll be returning to your universe?" Twilight asked.
"Yes. I only came here to see what was going on. But it turns out, it wasn't too big of a deal. So my time here is spent."
"Hold on! You can't leave without experiencing the Pokemon Festival at least." Pinkie went up to her. "At least hang around and join in the fun."
"I... don't really know if I should stick around longer. The gateway to my world might end up closing at any moment without warning."
"If it does, we can have Cold Colt open it back up. Although that might mean we'll have to find Victini again." Twilight said.
"Come on. You know you want to?" Pinkie leaned her head over at the festival activities. Despite how few of them were left, there were still some fun options. Some that caught Nyx's eyes.
"Well. I guess I can stay for a bit. It is basically just the same as my own universe. But what in Equestria is a Pokemon?" Nyx asked.
"Boy...do we have a story to tell you." Twilight commented.
The remaining hours of the festival went by as Nyx had a go at some of the remaining activities. She got herself some face paintings along with everyone else. The paintings were Pokemon themed. Nyx got a painting of the Psychic-Type symbol. Twilight got herself a face painting of a Ninetales, Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy had patterns of an Electrike over them, making them look striking. Next, they tried an attraction where you have to try and figure out which Pokemon was real and which was a Ditto. There were 15 in total so there were tons of options. To make it more challenging, they placed masks over the Pokemon, so that way no one can figure out which one was Ditto due to its signatures eyes and mouth appearance. The only way they could tell was by how the Pokemon was acting.
The last remaining activities involved a small eating contest which Ash and Pinkie crushed, a small racing contest which Rainbow Dash's Whirlipede won and a small challenge of seeing who can impress a normally hard to appear Toucannon with the best attempts they have. Fluttershy ended up succeeding in this along with Pinkie Pie and Pikachu.
And just like that, everything was slowing down. BigTime Ben arrived at Ponyville to pack things up as the festival was ending early on the final day at 7:00. He had already sent some of his Pokemon from Canterlot and the Crystal Empire back into their Pokeballs, along with other locations. All that was left were the ones at Ponyville.
All of Ponyville watched as it was all coming to a close, with some returning home. "Aww. I wanted it to last a bit longer." Scootaloo sighed.
"It was fun while it lasted. Really fun." Ash said.
"Pika."
"I can tell you're all somewhat exhausted." BigTime Ben walked up to the group. "Did you enjoy the festival?"
"Oh yes." Fluttershy nodded. "It was better than we expected."
"We experienced a lot, that's for sure. There definitely wasn't a dull moment." Twilight said.
"Well, you can definitely look forward to next year's festival."
"Next year? Yes!" The CMC jumped up for joy.
"Mhm. This won't be the last one, that's for sure. Well, I'll be seeing you all later. Let's go Gothitelle."
"Gothitelle..."
Ben and his Pokemon had left, waving goodbye to the group. Nyx looked up, noticing that the sun was slowly setting. Now would be a good time to return. "I have to get going now. I didn't get to experience the whole thing, but for the time I was here...it was actually pretty fun."
"You'll be back right?" Pinkie asked.
"I might come and visit...but I won't really have a reason for coming over unless it's something serious."
"Well. There is one reason you could come back here." Twilight was about to bring up a serious situation that was lingering across Equestria. "You can help with the Ghetsis situation."
"Ghetsis?" Nyx wondered.
"He's someone who managed to gain the power of universal travel. He travelled between an alternate universe and conquered it, adding it to his Harmonia Kingdom." Twilight explained. "Maybe you can end up helping us against him if he ever travels to another universe to try and conquer it."
"Hm. That does sound serious. Alright. I'll come over and help you if you need me. But if you want to make it possible for me to travel here, you'll have to summon the gateway yourself."
"We will. We'll be waiting for you...uhh..." Twilight was wondering about her name.
"Nyx. My name is Nyx. And I'll be there for you Twilight." They both gave each other a smile. Nyx especially, since she was talking to her favourite pony ever, even if it was an alternate from another universe. "And I assume you two are headed home as well?" Nyx turned to Cocoa and Rosestar.
"We'll be going home yeah. But we might come back as well. Very often even." Cocoa responded.
"Uh, no-no-no. We're not going to come back. We don't have a reason to return to this universe a lot. We're only going to come back to help Queen Pyrestar take back her world. And after that, we're done." Rosestar said.
"We'll see." Cocoa laughed. The three ponies from different worlds took their leave and said their farewells.
"Well...I'm tuckered out." Spike yawned. "I think I'm gonna clock out now."
"Me too. I have to get back and feed the Pokemon." Fluttershy fluttered away.
"Then we'll see each other tomorrow morning." Twilight's eyes were about to close, showing that even she was getting tired after a long week.
Everyone went their separate ways to their own homes. Ash returned back to Pallet Town to get some rest along with every other human passing through the gateways to their worlds.
For the first Pokemon Festival, it was a success. There were definitely exciting moments, and everypony got to experience multiverses in the skies. Twilight and the group ended up going on an adventure in a board game world of all things and even met a fused alicorn. The stories that will follow along with these two worlds are endless. Many possibilities are yet to be discovered, mostly in the world of Pokemon as the journey continues.

Speaking of Luster Dawn...I don't wanna give too much away for the Tyrannical Empress Twilight universe story, but Luster Dawn is apart of that story since in that universe, it takes place after Season 9. Her role will be revealed once I get there.
