The Third Contest. With extra pandemonium

Las Pegasus. 9:30

The Pokemon Contest of the fifth day was about to begin. Sweetie Belle and Coco had already registered for today's contest since they ended up missing the first day. With their names registered, they were now able to participate in this one and have a chance to win the Las Pegasus Ribbon.

The performance stages were already underway. Many coordinators had already shown off their Pokemon's talents and skills, hoping to advance into the battle stage.

Sweetie Belle was preparing herself for her turn in the performance stage since after the next two coordinators finish up their performance it'll be her turn.

"It's your time to shine. Plusle. Minun." Sweetie Belle said to her Pokemon.

"Plus!"

"Min!"

"Are you going with just Plusle and Minun for this one?" Rarity walked up to her little sister.

"Just for the performance stage. After all, this contest lets you use two Pokemon instead of one. So if I get into the battle stage, I'll use Teddiursa and Espurr."

"Piplup?!" Piplup popped out of his Poke Ball, shocked to hear that Sweetie Belle wouldn't be choosing him. "Piplup! Lup!"

"Sorry, Piplup. But I have to give the others a shot too. I'll let you perform next time." Sweetie Belle picked the Penguin Pokemon up.

"Piplup..." Piplup sulked.

"Phero!" Pheromosa was about to dash out and involve herself with the Pokemon Contest but Rarity quickly stopped her by using her magic to do so.

"Oh, no Pheromosa! You can't go out there, dear!" Rarity said. "We're not in the Pokemon Contest or even registered. Only coordinators can join."

"Pheromosa..." Pheromosa sighed, sitting down.

"There are still many opportunities for you to look forward to here at Las Pegasus." Rarity patted the Lissome Pokemon on the back. "Has Coco prepared herself?"

"I'm ready!" Coco dashed over with her Glaceon and Mawile. "Everything's all set up for me. I only have two Pokemon so Glaceon and Mawile are my only selections here."

"Glace!"

"Maw."

"Well, it seems you'll be having your own go right after Sweetie Belle since you signed up after her." Rarity replied. "If by chance, you two will go against each other, I'm expecting a healthy battle between both of you."

"Totally!" Sweetie Belle nodded. "We're gonna have a blast competing against each other! If that happens...But we'll still have fun competing against everypony else."

"Mhm." Coco agreed.

"Wonderful. But before you do..." Rarity suddenly started to brush Sweetie Belle's mane, adjust her dress, wipe her face and even brushing Plusle and Minun's fur. "Smoothen your mane, make sure there are no crumples on your dress, wipe your face and of course, your Pokemon need to be in tip-top shape in front of the judges."

"Mrrgh..." Sweetie Belle grumbled as she rubbed her eye. "I got it. I got it."

"Hm. Hm." Coco giggled. Both she and Sweetie Belle would have to wait until their turn came along. But as they were in the waiting room with the other coordinators, they noticed a familiar face walk in. And it wasn't Spike.

Instead, it was Paul of all people.

"Paul? What are you doing here?" Rarity asked.

"I'm here to watch the Pokemon Contest of course." He replied.

"You're here to watch the contest? I didn't think a guy like you would be interested in that kind of stuff." A confused Sweetie Belle spoke.

"I'm not really interested in it. I'm only here to see what moves I can adopt."

"I beg your pardon?" Rarity squinted her eyes. "What do you mean by that? Adopt?"

"Some of my battle strategies come from watching coordinators in Pokemon Contests. Their complex choice of move combinations really sparks an idea up in my head, ya know."

"Oh. I get what you mean." Coco understood. "I'm not a Pokemon battler but I can see how that helps."

"You're in luck!" Sweetie Belle jumped up in Paul's face. "I've got a bunch of creative moves that I'm gonna use in this contest! Ash even taught me some tricks!"

"Did he now? Then, in that case, I'll pay extra attention to that." Paul responded. "Good luck out there, kid." He walked by her, heading straight for the seats.

As he walked over to the crowd, the current coordinator had just finished their performance. Now it was time for the next coordinator to head out and after that, it'll be Sweetie Belle's turn and then Coco Pommel.

10:00.

It was now time for Sweetie Belle to take the stage. The judges were anticipating her arrival since they've already seen her compete before in previous contests. Even if she's only been in 3 so far.

"Now please welcome, Sweetie Belle from Ponyville!" The announcer Marian called for Sweetie Bell as the little unicorn came out of the curtains.

This crowd was larger than most crowds since this is Las Pegasus after all. So, Sweetie Belle had a lot she wanted to do that'll impress them all. But the judges, Mr Contesta, Mr Sukizo and Nurse Joy are the ones she has to really impress.

"Let's go. Plusle! Minun!" She tossed her Poke Balls into the air, sending out the duo of Cheering Pokemon. Once they both came out of their Poke Balls, sparks of electricity flew around the arena.

"Plusle!"

"Minun!"

"Let me see what you can do..." Paul said to himself as he observed Sweetie Belle.

"Okay. Just like we planned. Plusle! Light up with Discharge! Minun! Spin while using Swift!"

"Plus...!" Plusle went first by lighting his body up with a sparking yellow aura. He became a walking ball of light as he illuminated the area.

"Minun!" Meanwhile, Minun ended up jumping on Plusle's head while Discharge was being used. Since both Plusle and Minun were Electric-Types, being around the electricity of another wasn't a huge problem.

Minun then spun around while sending out several stars that flew in multiple directions. These stars were given extra shine thanks to the large aura of Plusle's Discharge.

"We're not done yet. Bigger!" Sweetie Belle exclaimed.

"Plusle!" Plusle made his aura larger as bolts of electricity flew out of the aura, connecting with the stars of Swift. Now the stars all gained an electric aura around them.

"Oooh..." The crowd gawked at the electric-covered stars that were floating in the air.

"Now let's make it big! Plusle! Minun! Use Double Team!"

"Plus!"

"Min!" Both Plusle and Minun duplicated themselves to add some extra flair. Now that there were multiple Plusle's and Minun's things were different. Each of the cloned Plusle's changed their yellow electricity into blue electricity, shooting them up at the stars.

With yellow and blue mixing together, they created green electricity right in front of everypony's eyes as the contest hall was illuminated with dark green sparks.

"Let's finish it! Minun! Use Headbutt on all of the Swift's!

"Minun-Min!" All of the Minun clones leapt up with their heads surrounded by a golden aura as there were enough Minun's to hit all of the Swift stars.

With perfect synchronization and unity, the Minun's smashed their heads onto the electric-covered stars. The direct contact with the stars caused a yellow, blue and green explosion as the clones returned into Plusle and Minun. This triple coloured explosion sent out tiny multi-coloured sparks of electricity that fell on the floor.

"Have a look at that! A nice mix of yellow blue and dark green!" Marian gawked. "What do our judges think?"

"Mmm..." Mr Contesta closed his eyes. "Reminds me of an ice cream I used to enjoy as a kid...I wish they made them again. That brought me back!"

"Plusle and Minun always work well with each other as Duo Pokemon. So it's no surprise that they're able to perform in perfect sync with each other. Remarkable!"

"I was worried about Minun jumping on her teammate's head. But there's wasn't any need to worry since they pulled it off splendidly," said Nurse Joy.

"That sounds like a win in my book! Great job you two!" Sweetie Belle hugged her Pokemon.

"Plus! Plusle!"

"Minun!" Filled with joy, Plusle and Minun both shocked their trainer out of love.

"Gah!" Sweetie Belle screeched as she coughed out smoke. "T-Thanks you two..." She wheezed.

"Not bad." Paul smiled. "I'll be looking forward to the battle stage..."

As Sweetie Belle and her Pokemon returned to the waiting room, Rarity dashed over, feeling proud of her little sister. "Oh! You looked simply gorgeous out there! Perhaps staying up late and refining your skills isn't such a bad idea as I thought."

"Told ya! But my eyes are kinda getting baggy a lot lately." Sweetie Belle pointed her hoof at her eyes.

"Congratulations, Sweetie Belle." Coco went past Sweetie Belle. "Guess it's my turn now. This'll be my chance to win my second ribbon. Wish me luck."

"Do your best out there, Coco!" Sweetie Belle flailed her hooves around as she, Rarity, Plusle and Minun were cheering for Coco.

"Our next coordinator is Coco Pommel from Manehattan!" Marian announced, pointing at Coco who came walking over instead of running like everypony else does.

"Okay." Coco looked at both of her Poke Balls. "I'm counting on you two to help me through this. Out you come." By tossing her Poke Balls into the air, out came Glaceon and Mawile.

"Glaceon!"

"Mawile."

When they exited their Poke Balls, a mix of cold wind and fairy dust spread across the arena, much like how every coordinator's Poke Ball shows something special when the Pokemon is sent out.

"Hm." Paul would end up observing Coco as well as he'll take any opportunity to improve his strategies and tactics as a trainer. Doesn't matter how he does it in the end.

"Okay. Glaceon. Use Barrier!"

"Glace!" Glaceon went first by summoning a purple orb of psychic energy around her. The Fresh Snow Pokemon was now encased in this orb as she was waiting for her teammate to make the next move.

"Now Mawile! Raise her into the air with Fairy Wind!"

"Wile. Mawile!" Mawile opened her large jaw up, sending a tornado full of Fairy magic. This pink tornado wrapped around the purple orb and Glaceon, carrying the Fresh Snow Pokemon into the air.

Everypony Oohed and Aahed at the sight of a pink tornado carrying a purple barrier with a blue creature inside of it while fairy dust scatters across the area.

"So far so good. Alright, Glaceon! Icy Wind inside of the Barrier!"

"Ceon!" While being surrounded by the barrier and the pink tornado, Glaceon opened her mouth as a gust of cold wind flew out.

But since the Barrier was around her, instead of continuing forward, the Icy Wind ended up filling the entire Barrier as now its purple colour shifted into an icy blue colour.

Now the sight had changed. It looked like a blue orb of ice was floating in the air with a pink tornado carrying it. That's when something new came along.

The power of Icy Wind ended up breaking the Barrier, shattering it in one go. Purple shards flew all over the place. But that wasn't the main attraction at all. The real attraction was how Icy Wind merged with Fairy Wind.

With two different wind attacks merging together, their colours mashed and created a purple tornado that was much wider than both Icy Wind and Fairy Wind combined. Glaceon, however, was still being carried even with the Barrier gone as the purple tornado stayed in place. The Fresh Snow Pokemon was floating in the air thanks to the merged wind.

Unfortunately, the raging purple tornado was a bit too much for Glaceon to handle. More than she and Coco actually expected. "G-Glaceon...?" Glaceon noticed that the tornado was getting more violent as it was no longer staying in one place.

Now, the tornado was moving all over the place, completely out of control. Not only that, but Glaceon was sent flying as the tornado launched her away. Everypony gasped as they saw Glaceon fall from a high place, but luckily, Mawile caught her using her large jaw.

"Maw!"

But the tornado was still moving at a violent pace without anyone there to control it. The crowd witnessed the tornado raging violently as they also saw how it was approaching them as well.

Its haphazard movements meant that it could go anywhere it wanted. Thus, panic ensued as most of the crowd stood up, ready to make a run for it before the tornado ends up carrying them.

From how powerful it was, it seemed that it was already affecting the arena itself. A highly destructive wind pressure was formed with manes and tails being blown. The curtains were being ripped off the walls as even the waiting room was being affected. If this kept up then the contest hall could be in shambles.

"I-I didn't plan for this to happen..." Coco whimpered as she moved back from the tornado.

"Not good. Pheromosa! Triple Kick!" Rarity commanded.

"Mosa!" The Lissome Pokemon immediately came out of her Poke Ball, moving at lightning speeds as she created a greater wind pressure than the tornado itself from her speed alone.

The Ultra Beast then pulled her leg back before swinging it forward. With one single kick, Pheromosa had split the tornado in half. The violent tornado had come to an abrupt end thanks to Pheromosa's actions but not without going out in a bang.

The split tornado had suddenly combusted from the imbalance of energy. Thus, a purple explosion occurred in the arena with purple stardust flowing across the contest halls as everypony watched.

And that was the end of that.

"Oh boy..." Marian stood up as her hair was a mess. "That was something for sure. What do our judges think?"

"Well..." Mr Contesta adjusted his bowtie. "I have to say...it's certainly the first time raw power has been shown in a contest."

"Hm. I wouldn't say it was remarkable but..." Mr Sukizo grumbled.

"At least no one got hurt..." Nurse Joy placed her hat back on as the judges had finished their words.

It was a bit of a bewildering experience. Paul, who had seen the entire debacle go down from start to finish, walked off as he had seen enough. Whether it was for better or for worse.

Coco was rightfully hit by this. From the way the judges spoke and how everypony was in a state of shock, she believed that she messed up to a large degree. Glaceon whimpered while Mawile just turned around, making sure that no one would see her facial expression and only her large maw.

"T-Thank you. Glaceon. Mawile" Coco lowered her head, returning her partners to their Poke Balls. Upset and worried about her potential place in today's contest, Coco headed back into the waiting room.

"Coco, darling. Are you alright?" Rarity asked.

"Mmm..." Coco mumbled. "I will be but...I'm not sure I'm making it into the battle stage."

"It was just a slip-up," said Sweetie Belle. "It wasn't your fault that the tornado went crazy."

"Maybe but...It was worse than my first contest." Coco turned around. "That one was a bit rough."

"But you obtained the ribbon, didn't you?" Rarity replied.

"I did but...It almost went wrong and Glaceon nearly got hurt. I'm worried that one of these days, Glaceon and Mawile will be in danger because of me. I might be a bad trainer!"

"You're not a bad trainer." Rarity shook her head. "You said it yourself yesterday. You worked really hard for your first contest ribbon and it paid off, right?"

"Mhm." Coco nodded. "I was nervous in the beginning, but Glaceon and I pulled through at the end and got our first ribbon."

"Then that just makes it clear you're a good trainer. We all have difficult and strenuous moments. I'm certainly positive Pokemon Trainers are no exception to this at all. What's important is that you can improve. Winning that first ribbon was a clear sign that you have what it takes."

"Right..." Coco nodded. "Thanks, Rarity."

Her spirits had been lifted thanks to Rarity. However, for her to advance to the next stage is hard to say. As the other coordinators pull of their performances, time was ticking as Coco was getting anxious.

With all the Coordinators completing the performance stage, it was time for the results to show who would be advancing into the battle stage.

"And here are the results for the Coordinators advancing to the next round!" Marian pointed at a screen as the faces of each coordinator began to slowly reveal themselves one by one.

A total of 24 Coordinators were in this contest but only 8 of them will be able to qualify and make it into the battle stage. Right now, 6 faces had been shown. The 3rd face was revealed to be Sweetie Belle as she made it and was able to advance towards the battle stage.

But Coco's face hadn't shown up yet as the faces kept going. The results were reaching the end. Coco held her breath in as she was shuddering. She believed that there was no chance of her getting in because of what happened.

However, once the final face showed up, the 8th coordinator was revealed to be Coco. She had actually managed to make it through to the second stage, which took her by surprise. After her performance, it was hard to see her continuing in this contest.

"I...made it?" Coco's jaw dropped.

"You certainly did!" Rarity dashed over with the widest grin on her face. "Well done, Coco!"

"Ah...Oh." Coco was malfunctioning as she was still trying to process this. She didn't think it would be possible. The previous action did not mesh well with the outcome. But it happened anyway. "I made it!" She screeched before toning her voice down.

"These are the coordinators going up against each other in the next round." Then the screen shuffled the faces along into brackets, showing who was going up against who.

Coco and Sweetie Belle weren't actually facing off against each other in the next stage. But their faces were close to each other. If they can defeat the coordinators next to them, they'll definitely face off in the next battle stage.

"Now we'll have our coordinators take a short 20-minute break and we'll be right back!" Marian announced. Before they would all advance into the battle stage, some down-time was needed first.

Outside of the Contest Hall. 10:40.

"Congratulations on advancing to the second round you two." Rarity spoke as she was walking alongside Coco and Sweetie Belle. "Especially you, Coco."

"Thanks, Rarity. My heart was pounding rapidly back there...I didn't think I'd make it." Coco giggled.

"But you did. Those judges have rather kind judgement most likely. " Rarity theorized.

"Mhm. But now I'm more worried about the battle stage." Coco suddenly stopped walking. "What if something goes wrong when I'm battling? It might be worse than the performance stage!" She shuddered as she bit her hoof.

"Aw, Coco..." Sweetie Belle's ears dropped.

"Hm. I suppose that is something to worry about. The performance stage did have an unruly outcome..." Rarity thought for a moment.

"But it's fine." Coco gulped. "I was able to make it to the battle stage after all. But what if it was by sheer luck I made the cut out of everypony else? Am I even qualified?"

"What do we do, Rarity?" Sweetie Belle looked up at her older sister. "At this rate, Coco's gonna lose the spirit to continue."

"I know." Rarity nodded. "But it's not hard to see why. Coco, darling." She went up to the earth pony. Are you sure you're going to be alright?"

"Um...I think so." Coco muttered. "All I have to do is make it through this entire contest and hopefully win the ribbon, right? Then it'll be over."

"Right on that." Rarity nodded. "It was definitely not sheer luck that granted you to the spot in the second stage. Even before the tornado went out of control, your performance was truly impressive. No doubt about that."

"R-Really?" Coco stammered.

"Honest. Besides. The judges themselves, while ambiguous with their opinion, certainly didn't dismiss your performance. You do have a shot as a Coordinator. After all, you only started 3 weeks ago, right?"

"Yes. I'm still new to all of this." Coco grumbled. "I might be able to make it through this one but...what about the other contests?"

"Hm...Oh! I know!" Sweetie Belle came up with a great idea as she dashed over to Coco. "You can have Dawn teach you!"

"Dawn?" Coco turned to the little unicorn.

"Mhm! Dawn's like my Coordinator teacher! She offered to help me with my contest skills! Even though we haven't actually started yet... but she can help you too!"

"Nice thinking, Sweetie Belle." Rarity patted her little sister on the head. "But there are even more options."

"Ye- There are?" Sweetie Belle tilted her head.

"One of the teachers over at the Pokemon School, Fantina seems to be adept in Pokemon Contests as well. Perhaps she can assist you as well. That way, you'll have two teachers who can help you."

"Wow! That's amazing!" Coco squeed. "Just what I need! Thanks for the recommendation you two!" Her spirits had been lifted once more thanks to Sweetie Belle and Rarity. "Oh! Before the break ends, let's stop by for something to eat. Mawile gets a bit greedy after a while."

Paul had watched Coco's descent into worry and rapid ascension into hope. Because of this new energy sparking in Coco Pommel, he'll be looking forward to seeing her and Sweetie Belle's skills in the battle stage so he can use those contest skills for himself.

The 20-minute break went on. It was hard to say if Sweetie Belle or Coco would be able to make it through to the end since the contest was on a break. Only 8 competitors will be going against each other and the winner of that ribbon is unknown at the moment, but they're all shooting to achieve it as the journey continues.
