One step closer to revival

Johto. Violet City. Afternoon.

"Ash! Ash! Ash, my boy!" Crying out Ash's name was Discord. This entire time, he's been frantically searching for his friend. At the moment, the other world was being attacked by Cosmos. Discord's old lover who had returned with a chaotic vengeance. "Oh, Delia said he was in Johto, didn't' she?"

Johto was the region where Ash and Pikachu's adventures led to today. Discord's eyes had appeared inside of the clouds to get a better view of this part of Johto. And over at Violet City, that was where he and Pikachu could be found. Joining them as always was Goh and right now, they were speaking to Hollow at the moment. Discord had spotted him, immediately teleporting to his side.

"Ash! There you are!" Discord showed up, startling him, Pikachu, Goh and Hollow.

"Oh! Discord?!" Ash gasped.

"Pika?!"

"It took a while but I found you!" Discord grabbed him by the shoulders. "It's awful! The worst possible scenario is happening right now!"

"What's going on?" Goh asked.

"Remember what I mentioned back at PokeStar Studios? Cosmos is back..." Discord shuddered with his face being close to Ash. "And I don't think in high spirits! At least for the right reasons!"

"Wait, her?! Are you serious?!"

"I've never been more serious in my life, Ash, my boy." Discord shook his head as this was the most serious Ash had ever seen him. It was rare for Discord to be like this. Serious and terrified at the same time. "I ran from her again and I'm Equestria and everything else past that is in for a horrible time."

"Can you tell us what's happening there?" Hollow requested.

"There's no time! You're just going to have to come with me if you want all of us to live!" Discord extended his arms, grabbing Goh and Hollow as well, needing all the help he could get. He'd rather not waste any time trying to explain everything. All Discord thought about was having Cosmos leave before her absolute revival could come about. He left Violet City and the Pokemon World as well, bringing Ash and the others along.

Equestria. Ponyville. Afternoon.

Applejack had shown up to Ponyville, remembering that Roxie and Roxanne were with Cold Colt at the moment. With Cosmos possessing Pokemon and humans, it made Applejack fear for Cold Colt, who was with two of them right over at Twilight's Castle.

She had used Big Mac's Machamp to show up as fast as she could, locking onto Twilight's castle. However, Machamp suddenly stopped in his tracks, coming to a screeching halt. "Champ!"

"Machamp! What's up?!" Applejack asked. Machamp's abrupt halt was rooted in shock. The moment he arrived at Ponyville, there were already those waiting for Applejack's arrival. Applejack and Sceptile had witnessed what Machamp had seen.

The residents of Ponyville were all staring at the three of them, having the enigmatic pink glow in their eyes. Upon seeing this pink glow, Applejack realized that Cosmos had already struck most of Ponyville at this point.

"Welcome back, Applejack." It started with Mayor Mare speaking to Applejack with the voice of Cosmos coming through, stunning Applejack. "Didn't expect to see you so soon, though." The voice then transferred to everypony else in Ponyville with their voices echoing.

"H-How did ya..."

"I have eyes everywhere. Those Flying-Type Pokemon are very useful, aren't they?" It was revealed that Cosmos could get a better look at things thanks to the Pokemon that could fly. Applejack looked up to see that a flock of Pidgeotto were standing on the trees, viciously gazing at the earth pony.

Her movements did not go unmonitored. All of the residents here were waiting just for her as it seemed that all of them were under Cosmos' control.

"Where's Cold!? And my family?!" Applejack was more concerned for her family at the moment, looking at the crowd of ponies and Pokemon.

"Cold Colt's having the time of his life right now." Replying to Applejack was one of her family members. Apple Bloom. Applejack feared this as her little sister had been taken over. Looking at the crowd some more and she ended up spotting Granny Smith and Big Macintosh in the mix. Machamp was especially struck by this as his trainer Big Mac was taken over too.

"You don't have to worry about him right now." Carrot Top said, shrugging. "Roxie and Roxanne are making sure he's a contended and happy pony at the moment. One that is surely out of our way."

"I swear if you did anything to him...!"

"Or what? What can you do?" Cosmos chuckled in the body of Roseluck. "Look at the numbers, why don't you?" Indeed, Applejack was greatly outnumbered. Far more than anyone else dealing with Cosmos at the moment.

Her options were slim at the moment. Face to face with many ponies and Pokemon including her friends and family put the farm girl in a tough position. Another friend of hers came to mind. Fluttershy. Including the Pokemon House, home to various Pokemon that could match the massive number of ponies and Pokemon that had been taken over. Applejack feared for Fluttershy and the Pokemon living there, worried that they might have been taken over as well.

"Well. Only one thing left to do...Machamp! Start, running!"

"Champ!" Machamp nodded as he immediately took off. Applejack was going to risk it for the sake of her friends. At least, that's what Cosmos thought. Instead, Machamp ran the other way instead of directly into the streets of Ponyville.

"Running?! What a shame! After her! It's been a while since I've tortured someone, so let's make it count!" Cosmos aimed her hoof as Mayor Mare, ordering everyone to pursue her. It started with the Pidgeotto flock and soon everypony else.

Twilight's Castle.

Meanwhile, Roxie and Roxanne were still there over at Twilight's castle. This whole time, Cosmos has been rubbing up to the little colt, stalling for as much time as she could until her revival was complete. She couldn't have somepony as powerful as Cold Colt intervene.

"Hey, uh...this is great and all..." Cold Colt spoke as he was currently being fed some ice cream from Roxie and Roxanne. "But, I'm getting kinda full here. It's been hours."

"Come on. Don't you wanna eat some more?" Roxie grinned, holding up a spoon of ice cream up to his mouth as it had chocolate chips in it.

"I've only seen you two all day..." The Rift Pony sighed. "I'm getting full here too...And don't you two have Gyms to be at? Or at least schools?"

"A day off is always nice." Roxanne smiled. "If you're tired of the ice cream, then you'll probably prefer something new."

"Yeah, like a break." Cold replied, lowering his head. "You could at least help me be a better Pokemon Trainer...I'm subpar at best. Plus, I haven't seen anyone else lately."

"They went on a little trip." Roxanne put the ice cream aside. "They might be back soon. But you aren't feeling lonely with us around, are you?"

"No." He pouted. But right after that, the sounds of stomping and the wind blowing could be heard from outside. Cold's ears perked up as he stood up, looking towards one of the windows. "What's all that sound?"

"Ignore that," Roxie replied in a heartbeat, only for Cold Colt's curiosity to be the overpowering force in this instance. He teleported to the window before Roxie or Roxanne could even grab his tail to stop him. The two of them growled as Cold Colt got to witness the rampant scene outside. He used his magic to increase his eyesight greatly, looking far past Twilight's Castle.

Citizens of Ponyville were all currently rushing in one direction, pursuing Applejack. Applejack was currently headed for Twilight's Castle at the moment with Machamp carrying her and Sceptile.

"Applejack!? What's going on?!"

"Hmph." Roxie and Roxanne looked at each other, knowing that they couldn't risk any interruptions to Cosmos' plan. Especially with somepony who had the power to do what Cosmos could do. Albeit on a small scale. With both of their hands out, a pink ray had been unleashed at the little Rift Pony.

Cold Colt's tail swished for a bit before seeing a pinkish glow coming his way. The young colt quickly jerked back, narrowly avoiding the ray as it had pierced through the window and parts of the wall.

"Uh..." Naturally, he was confused and dumbfounded by this. The two trainers who he was having with for the majority of the day had suddenly tried to blast him to bits. "What's uh...what's up?"

"No use in hiding it now." Roxanne closed her eyes along with Roxie. Both of them opened them to reveal the pink glow. They had masked it this entire time to hide the possibility of them being under Cosmos' control. "We've stalled for enough time."

"Those eyes...Those are Cosmos'!" Cold Colt's knowledge about the original timeline had shown itself.

"They were right. He is knowledgeable. But that's to be expected from a Rift Creation." said Roxanne. "Do you know what this is all about, my little pony?"

"I think I do but..." Before he could finish his sentence, something didn't seem right in Cold Colt's eyes. It wasn't the fact that Cosmos was back and she was taking control of everyone's bodies. It was rather when Cosmos had shown up. "This is early."

"What do you mean early?" Roxie questioned.

"Well uh...funnily enough. You're not supposed to show up until next year." He chuckled even in the face of danger. "But I guess that's just the cause of the timeline being messed up in this world, right?"

"Hmph. So my return was inevitable anyway." Cosmos smiled, feeling somewhat relieved about that. "But frankly, that doesn't matter right now. I have to say, I should thank you for taking the time to be with me this long. You truly helped me get back up to speed."

"Eh?"

"Truth is...I didn't just come here to stall for time. I came here to also draw from the Rift Energy you have." Cosmos held her hand out as Roxanne, generating some crackling magic. "I heard you had great potential and those two certainly didn't lie. I've spent these remaining hours drawing out some Rift Magic from you and it's been greatly helping my recovery process. Thank you for that."

"Knew it was all too good to be true..." Cold lowered his head. "The ice cream tasted nice though."

"But I wonder why I couldn't control your mind?"

"I've already had mind taken over before. So, I just learned to get past it with my magic. And even if you did take some from me, I can just get it back in no time."

"Good to see that you're an optimist. But are you also a realist?!" Cosmos had then used her magic to send out Roxie and Roxanne's Pokemon.

Probopass, Armaldo, Cradily, Aggron, Carracosta and Golem from Roxanne's team. Meanwhile, Roxie's team consisted of Scollipede, Toxicroak, Garbodor, Crobat, Drapion and Weezing respectfully. These Rock and Poison-Types showed up before Cold Colt, shaking the room with their entrances.

"Do you have some more of that magic to give me?" All of them spoke with the voice of Cosmos. Cold Colt shifted his eyes outside, seeing that Applejack was still being chased.

Speaking of Applejack, she was heading for the castle. Even with this stark number difference, she prioritized the safety of her friends more than anything. She only wished that she could do the same for her family, but alas, they were now serving Cosmos only.

"Sceptile! Use your vines!"

"Sceptile!" Sceptile, who had latched on Machamp's back, readied his vines. Machamp was already closing in on the castle thanks to the speed he was moving at. However, the agile Flying-Types were catching up, proving to have speeds capable of matching Machamp's and even surpassing it. Some of them had used Aerial Ace, swiftly moving through the air to catch up with Machamp.

Sceptile's vines stretched far enough to reach the castle, wrapping around one of the pillars. After grabbing it, Machamp braced himself, allowing for Sceptile to carry his body weight and Applejack's combined as he left the ground.

Just in the time to avoid the incoming Aerial Aces. However, the other Flying-Types had used Air Slash and Air Cutter, focusing on Sceptile's vines. The blades of wind had sliced Sceptile's vines in half, interrupting his swinging motion. "T-Tile!"

"You're mine!" Cosmos had extended the arm of a Lombre using her Chaos Magic, causing it to become exceedingly long as it went to grab Applejack. Applejack held on tightly to Machamp, unaware of the arm that was coming towards her.

"Champ!" That was where Machamp came in. While falling, he had used one of his four arms to grab the extended arm of Lombre. Upon grabbing it, Cosmos had felt the pure power of the Superpower Pokemon, causing her to wince.

"Gah!" Cosmos cried out as Machamp had then tossed her aside. However, this moment of retaliation would not last as Machamp could see that Cosmos was throwing everything at his group. Wanting Applejack and Sceptile to make it out, Machamp had suddenly thrown them towards the balcony of the castle.

"Machamp!"

"Huh?! Machamp?!" Applejack gasped after seeing the Superpower Pokemon throw himself off. "What are ya doing?!"

"Champ." Machamp saluted at the two of them before spreading his arms out for the incoming attacks. He took the hit for them, ensuring that his friends would continue on and potentially end this disaster. The explosion from all of those attacks hit him had caused a shockwave that ended up boosting Applejack and Sceptile a bit higher towards the balcony. They ended up arriving at the castle after all as they were unable to witness Machamp take all of those attacks.

Speaking of Machamp, he crashed into the ground, fainting right afterwards after sacrificing himself like that. Applejack was taken aback by that. Cosmos took great interest in Machamp's strength. She knew that she needed that kind of power on her side. So far, Machamp was the hardest hitting Pokemon she had seen thus far. Applejack wanted to save him, but it would be pointless in trying to do so in this current predicament. Seeing that self-sacrifice ended up giving her a greater drive to overcome this.

"Thanks, Machamp. I won't let ya down." Applejack and Sceptile couldn't waste any time. They had to use all of the time that Machamp gave them to save Cold Colt or else it would've been for nothing.

Fluttershy's Cottage. Afternoon.

"Fluttershy!" Rushing through the doors of Fluttershy's cottage was Ash alongside his partner Pikachu. Joining him were Goh, Hollow and Discord after coming here from Violet City. "You weren't at the Everfree Forest! Are you alright?!"

"Ash. I'm fine." Fluttershy replied, still feeling exhausted while also being healed by Audino. "I just tired myself out by using my Fairy Magic. Never used that much before."

"That's great. So Cosmos showed up, huh?" Ash said. "From which universe?"

"It wasn't another universe, Ash. Cosmos comes from this universe. Ours." Fluttershy sat up. "But it's all the more dangerous...she started off by taking over Cynthia's body. And some of our teachers back at the Pokemon School."

"Cynthia?!" Ash, Goh and Hollow each exclaimed with shock.

"Pika?!"

"A lot happened." Fluttershy continued. "Some of our friends have been sent off to places where Cosmos wanted them...To distract them while she looks for the Andalusian Stars to bring herself back."

"Is everyone else okay?" Ash asked.

"Twilight, Applejack and Pinkie are okay. But Starlight, Spike, Rainbow Dash and Rarity...I can't reach them. The Xtransceiver won't work with their Trainer numbers." Fluttershy picked up her Xtransceiver, using her wings to tap on Starlight's Trainer Number. The device rang for 10 seconds, only for nothing to happen. "Nothing. I'm worried...but it's probably getting worse since Cosmos is attacking Canterlot."

"She wants complete reign over Equestria." said Discord. "And if she does...that's the worst kind of reign."

"Wait, what are we dealing with here? What's Cosmos all about"? Goh questioned.

"She's exactly me." Discord pointed at himself. "A draconequus. The only difference right now is that if she gets all those 6 Andalusian Stars, the same magic I have will be back in full swing with her. Can you imagine what she'll do once she's gets it all back?!"

"Cosmos' at Canterlot, right?" Ash leaned in toward Fluttershy.

"Mhm. She's controlling the Pokemon from Frenzy Forest to try and overthrow it. Twilight and Pinkie have gone off to find everyone else before it's too late. Applejack should be back here by now to check up on Cold Colt and-"

Just before Fluttershy could finish giving a quick rundown on things, a booming sound had travelled far enough to reach here. Audino's ears picked it up first along with everyone else. They had all flinched as the trees rustled with Fluttershy's windows almost cracking.

"What was that?!" Hollow shouted.

"Audino!"

"That came from the town!" Fluttershy got off her bed as all of the Pokemon here at the Pokemon House either fell over, snarled in the direction of where the sound came from or just hid.

"She's coming! She's definitely coming!" A frightened Discord had hidden underneath Fluttershy's bed. "No doubt!"

"Boy. Since we're dealing with someone similar to that draconequus...I have a suggestion." Sombra's shadow appeared next to Ash, speaking to him. "Use that ring that you used to defeat me 3 years ago. I could feel the amazing power from it."

"I hear ya, Sombra. But right now, we need to get a move on!" Ash rushed out of the cottage with Goh and Hollow following along.

"Wait for me!" Fluttershy followed as well. She had been healed to the point where she could start galloping. Even fly as she spread her wings out. Audino, Bayleef and Raboot soon joined their friends. Meanwhile, Discord still hid, too frightened to face Cosmos. That was all he was doing and much to Discord's chagrin, Cosmos was right about him running away. He ran away in the past and he was running even now.

Twilight's Castle.

Back at Twilight's Castle, Cold Colt was currently on the run. His pursuers were Roxie and Roxanne along with their Pokemon. He teleported through a room, only for Aggron to break the doors down with its bare hands.

Toxicroak jumped through the massive hole that Aggron made before having Poison Jab ready. It jumped from wall to wall, closing in on Cold Colt with its flexibility and agility.

Cold Colt screeched as he quickly used his magic to create the first object he could think of. Toxicroak lunged at Cold Colt, thrusting its arms forward with Poison Jab. Cold Colt created two wardrobes that were stacked together, using that as a shield.

"Toxic!" Toxicroak's arm spikes ended up stabbing into the wardrobe, sticking there. The Poison-Fighting-Type had been blocked, only for it to tear the wardrobes in half with Poison Jab, melting the wood away as well.

"Bring this entire room down! Earthquake!" Roxanne ordered her Armaldo and Golem.

"Armaldo!" Both Armaldo and Golem had stomped on the ground, summoning golden shockwaves. These shockwaves crossed streams before spreading across the room. Before Cold Colt knew it, the power of two Earthquakes had absolutely shattered this room in mere seconds. The walls broke down along with the floor which gave out.

The little unicorn was running on air for a few seconds before falling. Rubble started falling with him as the lower and upper floors had also been affected thanks to the power of the Double Earthquake. Cold Colt screamed whilst falling from a high place. The rubble bumped him in the head along the way, causing immediate injury. Despite this, he still had the power and time to use his magic to levitate himself.

He watched as the floors all broke apart, crashing into other rooms. The rubble crashed onto his shield, but none managed to break it.

"Oh...Twilight's gonna be so mad..." Cold Colt grimaced as he lowered himself to the room below that was still intact.

But he knew that he might not get the chance to see Twilight mad considering his options. Outside was not safe either as the residents of Ponyville were currently surrounding the castle. They had even started entering instead of waiting for Roxie and Roxanne to get it done.

Another Earthquake had been used, sending even more of those golden shockwaves towards Cold Colt. The little unicorn braced himself, only to be saved afterwards. A vine had wrapped around his shield, pulling Cold Colt away from the shockwaves.

Sceptile was responsible for that. Applejack was drawn to the biggest noise that had been made inside the castle, leading to here. "Applejack! Sceptile!"

"How ya doing, little guy?" Applejack asked with a smile on her face. She was glad to see that Cold Colt was still in one piece despite this mass destruction that was ongoing.

"Could be better right now." He chuckled, feeling genuinely terrified of his current circumstances as Sceptile had placed him down. "I guess you already know what's happening."

"Ya don't have to tell me, Cold. We've got a good idea of what this is all about." Applejack's smile soon faded as she put on a serious face, looking up. As the remaining rubble from the upper floors dropped, Roxanne, Roxie and their Pokemon came into view, standing on what was left of the upstairs. They looked down at Applejack, Cold and Sceptile while the trio looked up at them.

"Not the smartest move coming here, farm girl," said Cosmos through the body of Roxanne. "You're still outnumbered. Plus, there are more that have just entered. And with all of this destruction, it'll be easy to find the point of interest, won't it?"

"She's right, Applejack. Everyone in Ponyville is controlled by Cosmos right now. She's everywhere! Eyes, ears, everything!"

"The kid gets it." Cosmos chuckled using Roxie's voice. "Still want to keep trying."

"So...you've got eyes and ears on everything, do ya?" Applejack was unphased by this. She knew that the odds were greatly stacked against her. However, these past 3 years have taught her that overwhelming odds do not signify the end.

"All across the world at this point. Soon anyway." Cosmos shrugged. "And I believe I'm close to the next Andalusian Star somewhere..."

"In that case...Cold. I'm gonna need you to do something for me real soon." Applejack had a plan. Something had attached to her mind as she was banking everything on this idea. Cold Colt nodded, waiting patiently for what Applejack's plan was. But of course, they had to get past the horde of controlled citizens as well. And that was just another challenge waiting to happen.

Out in the badlands.

Cosmos contained her search for the next Andalusian Star, using as many bodies as she could. She did indeed have eyes everywhere as she was currently a Swellow, hovering over the skies of the badlands. And by reaching this area, she could feel the next Andalusian Star.

"It's here," Cosmos spoke as the fourth star had been sensed. Her eyes focused on the massive ravine located here. By staring at it for a bit, Cosmos used her magic to enhance her sight.

Lo and behold, the next Andalusian Star was there.

This was the one star that she wouldn't have to worry about fighting for. Here at the badlands, there was no one to stop her as Cosmos was thrilled beyond belief about this. Not even the Pokemon living here would bother with the star, let alone even see it due to the massive ravine. But Cosmos certainly could.

"Good...Good!" A thrilled Cosmos had blurted out with her voice echoing throughout the skies. "Just a bit more, Discord my darling. I'll be back to my prime and I can finally finish what I started."

Cosmos flew into the ravine, heading straight for the fourth star. By flying down, the power of the Andalusian Star was already resonating with her, recognizing its original owner. Little by little, Cosmos' magic was returning to her as her body was masked by the darkness of the ravine. She seemingly disappeared when entering it.

However, seconds later, a light shined brightly in the darkness of the ravine. A dark pink light. That light then formed into a pillar, shooting out of the ravine before piercing the clouds. Once that light hit the clouds, it started spreading as if it was a bucket of paint being spread across a canvas. Much like the dangerous storm that Cosmos had summoned over Canterlot, the clouds and the skies were changing. However, this time, cosmic sparkles could be found within them as everything was being darkened in a matter of seconds.

Within the ravine and once again echoing through the skies was Cosmos' voice. But this time, in the form of laughter. Pure maniacal laughter that could send a chill down someone's spine. It was certainly chilling for the Pokemon here at the badlands to hear. With that horrifying laughter, Cosmos knew that she was one step closer to her revival. And potentially one step closer to a malefic reign as the journey continues.
