Embodiment of Fear

An alternate Equestria in a random universe.

Yet another universe that had been invaded by Empress Twilight Sparkle along with the assistance of Ghetsis and his seemingly unstoppable Hydreigon who was just getting stronger every passing minute.

And of course, another universe where Empress Twilight has absorbed all the alicorn magic here for herself, further increasing her capabilities.

Although, she decided to slow it down a bit since she wanted to master all the magic she had before the invasion in 2 months. So that would mean visiting fewer universes and absorbing less magic, much to her chagrin.

This universe in particular is actually one where King Sombra ended up succeeding in taking over the Crystal Empire once more. Not only that, but he had transcended to alicorn status. Unfortunately, one alicorn isn't strong enough to compete against one that has the power of a million alicorns.

This universe was a bit tougher to conquer considering Sombra's persistence and malice. But Empress Twilight had more malice behind her. And Ghetsis had all the malice to give.

"Well, that's that." Empress Twilight could call things to a close here as she opened a gateway to her universe, ready to leave while the rest of her empire occupy this universe for her.

As for Ghetsis, he wiped off some crystals that got on him via the Sombra struggle. In fact, despite Empress Twilight's amazing magic, it was really Ghetsis who did most of the work with his Hydreigon causing mass destruction.

Ghetsis was ready to return to his universe for further plans for other Legendary and Mythical Pokemon, until, he heard a whisper through his ears.

"Ghetsis..."

"Hm?" Ghetsis was all ears for the whisper as he was able to tell where the whisper was coming from. He looked over at a large pile of rubble, noticing how there was one oddity amongst the plethora of rocks in the Crystal Empire.

A horn.

More specifically, King Sombra's horn. It was lying there with the rubble as Ghetsis could hear the whisper coming from the horn. He even recognized it as Sombra's voice.

"Ghetsis..."

As Empress Twilight returned to her universe alongside her apprentice Luster Dawn, Ghetsis stayed behind, responding to the call of Sombra's horn. He approached the horn, kicking away the rest of the rubble.

"Still alive?" Ghetsis spoke.

"L-Listen to what I have to say..."

"Hoh? What do you have to stay?" Ghetsis stabbed his staff near Sombra's horn, intimidating him. He could crush the horn at any given time if he wanted to.

"I-I felt your acrimony within your spirit. All of that hatred emanating out of you. It's simply delicious."

"And?"

"I can help you. Help you unleash greater strength than you already have. That dark aura around you is what I'm referring to."

"And how can you possibly help me? You're just a horn now."

"I can give you access to dark magic." What Sombra said really caught Ghetsis's attention.

"Hm?" He raised his sole eyebrow. "Dark magic?"

"Yes. My magic specifically. You can wield it for yourself and all the alicorn magic that comes with it."

"Hmph. How can I take it? I'm just a human after all."

"It doesn't matter what species you are. Dark magic lives in everyone. All because of their darkest desires. And I can sense it from you. All that malicious aura you have is delicious. Possibly the greatest I've seen next to mine."

"Enough with the babble. Show me how I can achieve this." Ghetsis picked up Sombra's horn.

"Oh. I'll show you alright." Once Ghetsis picked up the horn, the process began as a dark orb of magic emerged from the horn, consuming Ghetsis as his Hydreigon witnessed it happen.

"Hydrei?"

A black void.

Endless, spacious and devoid of colour and nothing else residing in it. This is where Ghetsis stood on his own as he opened his eyes. He could still feel everything in his body. He could breathe and his feet certainly felt something. But there was nothing at the same time. Strangely, when Ghetsis arrived here, his dark aura acted as a light source.

"Where is this?" Ghetsis said.

"Look ahead." Sombra's voice echoed in the void. Hearing his voice, Ghetsis turned around, facing whichever direction would be front in this endless void. But then again, there was no up, down, left or right here.

But, aside from that, there was indeed something here. As Ghetsis turned around, he spotted a single spark of light. One that was red, green and dark purple. This spark was floating and emanating all those three lights while having black lightning in the middle of it.

It even made a sound in this hollow and empty void. A sound that echoed out screams and roars that were so terrifying that it was hard to describe what they sounded like. They could strike fear into anyone.

Anyone except for Ghetsis, who wasn't even phased by it. He approached the spark, looking down on it with his one healthy eye and the other eye that wasn't so healthy.

"Touch it. And you will see what it takes to truly achieve dark magic."

And so he did Without even hesitating, Ghetsis grabbed onto the small spark with his entire hand. And once he did, his vision of the area around him changed once more.

The spark flashed as something new was being materialized. The endless void was bringing something in. Ghetsis turned around to see what was being brought into the void. Two things actually. One was what seemed to be a destroyed town somewhere in Unova.

And the other was a sight that was all too familiar to him as it was in the shape of a human. More specifically, his own shape, but on a smaller scale. A young man had emerged from the materialized magic.

That young man was Ghetsis himself at a younger age. Around his teenage years alongside his Hydreigon who was a Zweilous back then at that time.

"What is this?" Ghetsis asked.

But, as he asked that, Sombra simply laughed in the void as a response. From how he was laughing, it seems that Sombra brought Ghetsis here for a different reason.

"Right where I want you! Like I'd give you dark magic at all!" Sombra cackled. "I just wanted to make you succumb to your fears!"

"My fears?"

Ghetsis looked over the destroyed city and his younger self with Zweilous. That's when Sombra's magic was kicking. Sombra is known for showing everyone their worst fears and making them succumb to him so that they can serve under him.

And he was planning to do the same to Ghetsis. However, usually, whenever Sombra wants to instil fear into someone, the illusion he usually makes something happens by now where the worst possible scenarios playout for the victim.

And yet, nothing was happening at all. Ghetsis and his younger self just stood there.

"W-What's going on?" Sombra stuttered. "Why aren't your fears being realized?!"

"Am I supposed to be afraid or something?" Ghetsis scoffed.

"Impossible...you're not even the slightest bit afraid?"

"Of course not. I am the man who will become a great emperor of many worlds soon. I can't be intimidated by a mere king and his illusions."

"W-What?!" That one response blew Sombra back. So much so that the younger version of Ghetsis had faded away. Ghetsis was not fearful of Sombra in any way. Not even a smidge.

And to make matters worse for Sombra, Ghetsis's dark aura was growing to a point where it was starting to overpower his black void.

Earlier, before this whole black void thing happened, when Ghetsis and Empress Twilight arrived here, Sombra had actually experienced his own fear from encountering Ghetsis alone.

After all, it was Ghetsis and his Hydreigon that did most of the work and Empress Twilight just stole a majority of Sombra's magic. All that was left was his ability to affect others with fear.

And the one who had given him fear for the first time was Ghetsis. Sombra hoped that he could turn it around and instil fear in Ghetsis instead, but in the end, he was no match for the sheer terror that Ghetsis emanates out of him.

"So. There is no dark magic for me to receive, is there? A facade, eh?" Ghetsis narrowed his one eye, further intimidating Sombra.

"T-There is!"

"Then show it to me. Or else I'll personally put you out of your misery once I exit this void."

"Not yet! There has to be something that terrifies you!" Sombra wouldn't give in. He wanted to overtake Ghetsis with fear. That way, he'll be able to return and be restored to his full form. Just like in every universe and timeline where he returns to conquer the empire once more.

But, try as he might, Sombra couldn't find anything that could break through Ghetsis's mind and exploit his fears. Sombra usually looks into someone's mind and memories to search for what truly makes them break and what could ruin them. It's an effective spell that works on anyone.

Almost anyone. Not Ghetsis apparently.

Sombra even discovered memories of Ghetsis's parents. Family is possibly the biggest catalyst for fears in the eye of Sombra. Everyone fears for their family. Whether good or bad depending on the scenario. Sombra believed that Ghetsi's family could be the key to overtaking him.

However, when Sombra materialized an illusion of Ghetsis's parents, Ghetsis did not even turn around. He knew what Sombra was trying to do and he was not falling for it one bit. Sombra even tried to persuade Ghetsis by having the illusions of his parents call out his name.

"Ghetsis..." The voice of his mother and father rang out. But even with his own parents, it was no use. When Sombra tried to give off the illusion of Ghetsis's parents perishing the same way they did years ago, he thought that would get to Ghetsis.

But it didn't.

"Get lost." Ghetsis faced his parents, causing their illusions to fade away.

"I-Impossible...he has no fear..." Sombra was absolutely perplexed. He has never come across anyone who had no fear within them. Not even a smidge of it.

Because of this, the Dark Magic that Sombra mentioned actually decided to reveal itself by its own will. The same Dark Magic that Sombra himself wields.

The Dark Magic had actually responded to Ghetsis. That is why it came out by itself without anyone needing to summon it. The Dark Magic could feel Ghetsis's level of fearmongering and pure malice, hatred baneful aura. It could tell that this amount of darkness was greater than Sombra.

Thus, the Dark magic chose Ghetsis as it slowly flew over to him.

"The Dark Magic...it chose you?" Sombra stammered.

"Hmph." Ghetsis smirked as he held his hand out, grabbing a hold of the tiny spark of dark magic. Once he grabbed it, it had become a part of him.

All the malevolent and maleficent magic was pouring into Ghetsis, mixing with the Rift energy he currently had within him. His dark aura increased in size as cosmic stardust was starting to flow out. With all this energy being exerted, the void that Sombra had made was starting to break apart.

"No! No!" Sombra screamed.

Ghetsis's eyes flashed red as an explosion of darkness came out of his body, obliterating Sombra's dark void and freeing him. The orb of darkness that consumed Ghetsis had also been blown away as Hydreigon witnessed his trainer emerging from the smoke.

"Dreigon?"

Ghetsis was unharmed. In fact, he felt better than ever right now. Not only was he brimming with Rift energy. But now, he had magic within him. Something that only Fairy-Type trainers were capable of obtaining. But not only that, Ghetsis had become something greater. He had replaced Sombra.

Ghetsis had become the Embodiment of Fear itself.

"At least you were telling the truth." Ghetsis looked at his only arm, seeing how he was able to generate a ball of darkness now with just his will. He then looked down at Sombra's horn which was still there despite the Dark Magic leaving Sombra.

However, noticeably, the red colouring on the horn had faded away. Now it was just all black. Sombra no longer had his magic with him as he was weaker than ever.

"I'll put you out of your misery now." Ghetsis smirked.

"N-No. Please, Ghetsis." Sombra pleaded. "You and I are very alike! Both of us share a common goal! Together we can-"

But Ghetsis wasn't having any of it. Thus, he smashed his staff on the horn, shattering it into tiny little pieces. And thus, that was the end of this universes' King Sombra.

"Let's go, Hydreigon." Ghetsis returned his Hydreigon to his Poke Ball before opening up the gateway to Pyrestar's Universe.

His work here was done.

Pyrestar's Universe. The Harmonia Kingdom.

Ghetsis had returned. And with more to offer than ever. When passing through the gateway, Colress was already waiting there for him with important news.

But noticeably, when Ghetsis arrived, a flash of darkness came out of him. It was a way to signal that a new breed of magic had entered this universe. One that was very uncommon. But Ghetsis didn't know that. He was just here to continue his work.

"Colress. What have you discovered so far?"

"Something revolutionary, that's what." Colress adjusted his glasses. "But a quick question. What's that darkness surrounding you?"

"This?" Ghetsis looked at his arm, seeing how his body was overflowing with dark magic now. His aura wouldn't stop showing all of a sudden. "It's magic. And seems as if I have yet to fully control this newfound power of mine."

"Magic? You've obtained magic?!" Colress gasped.

"Certainly." Ghetsis raised a finger as he sent a tiny blast of darkness from his fingertips. The small blast ended up hitting the ceiling, leaving a fairly large hole through it.

"Oh my..." Colress's eyes widened as he backed away from Ghetsis.

"Hm." Ghetsis clenched his fist. "I might have to spend some spare time working on this. It's been a while since I've properly trained myself anyway. But enough of that. What did you find, Colress?"

"R-Right!" Colress quickly stood tall as he brought out his tablet. "While searching through many universes about our world, I found one particular universe that has a special type of Pokemon. The only one of its kind."

"Hoh?" Ghetsis approached the tablet, gazing right at it. He witnessed a humanoid Pokemon that had a shape that was familiar to him and Colress. It was an already existing Pokemon that is one half of a very rare Pokemon. And Ghetsis said its name clear as day. "Mewtwo?"

"This Mewtwo seems to be influenced by the power of a strange stone. But it doesn't seem to be a Mega Stone at all. This stone is also powered by what this universe calls the Synergy Burst Phenomenon."

"Synergy Burst Phenomenon?"

"It is both the name of the phenomenon and the verb for when it occurs, whereas the elevated state achieved by the Pokemon is known as their Burst Mode. And this Mewtwo is a result of it being possessed by a stone that holds that same energy. They call it a Shadow Synergy Stone. And the name of this Mewtwo is also named Shadow Mewtwo."

"Shadow Mewtwo, you say..." Ghetsis's interest had been skyrocketed.

"Years ago, we created our own Mewtwo as a result of an experiment of recombining Mew's genes. Much like what Team Rocket had done even longer in the past. Do you suppose we-"

"The answer's obvious." Ghetsis turned around. "We capture it. Much like other Legendaries that will soon be mine."

"Well, that's the expected reaction. When do we leave for Shadow Mewtwo?"

"I'll give it time. This is still Mewtwo after all. Caution is needed. In the meantime, I'll have enough time to work on this." Ghetsis held his harm out with dark magic flowing.

"Then I'll do the same. I still have some records and notes from the lab we created Mewtwo in." Colress bowed his head as he walked out of the throne room, off to his lab to read about potential major weaknesses about Mewtwo.

All the while, Ghetsis sat on his throne with his new and improved body. He looked the same but now he was overflowing with magic. Magic that he has yet to control. But it chose him over Sombra. Abandoning its original user for a greater force of darkness.

But Ghetsis himself knows that even with a ton of power, he can't get carried away with it. All forms of power need to be controlled and mastered. And with this dark magic, not only did it choose him, but it also changed the way it worked.

Sombra received an odd relation to crystals when utilizing it. Whatever Ghetsis will obtain is unknown and unaware to him. But it will be a horrifying force either way.

Many hours have passed.

With no one left to control the sun and moon since Pyrestar left, this world has been living in constant darkness for hours. The only light source in this world is the magic from the unicorns and some of the new lights added by Colress.

At this time, many of the unicorns are asleep. And most of Team Plasma is still awake. In fact, this entire world is mostly asleep. After centuries with no earth pony and pegasi around, a great silence had filled it for centuries upon centuries with seemingly no end.

The remaining unicorns were holding out for massive hope, hoping that Pyrestar will return and find a way to break the seal and restore this world to the way it truly was. Thankfully, there was a way.

But besides that, Ghetsis was still awake. To pass the time during the night, he either sits at the throne room, pondering or either head out to the Canterlot Gardens, which have greatly lost their greenery over the years.

Ghetsis came here for one reason. To test his newfound magic. He had already gained a good enough grasp of his other abilities such as opening up gateways and using his dark aura. So it made sense to try this third one out.

As the wind howled in the endless night, Ghetsis dropped his staff as he outstretched his arm out. That same dark aura came out of his hand as it was starting to vibrate. Ghetsis was about to pull off his first spell as he closed his eyes, gaining complete focus.

Black particles started coming out of the ground from beneath Ghetsis's feet. Canterlot Gardens was starting to tremble with Ghetsis's dark aura starting to intensify.

It wasn't just Canterlot Gardens. This universes' Canterlot was trembling as well. All the unicorns living here could feel a sudden tremor rumbling their homes as they had woken up, wondering what all that rumbling was.

And the same goes for Team Plasma, who were all caught off guard. The castle was being ruptured as well as Colress's lab. The shaking interrupted his work for him.

"Hmm..." Ghetsis could tell that he was making Canterlot tremble by concentrating. So, he decided to see how far he could push this. He concentrated his mind even further as everything started to intensify.

Beyond Canterlot, other cities and towns in Equestria were starting to tremble as well. Manehattan, Trottingham, Appleloosa and even this world's Ponyville. All locations that once used to be vibrant and healthy. Now they were barely even put together at this point.

And the trembling wasn't making things better as the residents in those cities and towns were starting to panic. They believed an attack was coming. After all, living like this for years has greatly traumatized them. But it was something far worse than attack.

Soon, Ghetsis's rumbling affected all of Equestria as his dark aura grew so much it could be seen from over the horizon with more black particles rising out. It was even going past Equestria and to other locations. And soon the world could feel this dark aura brimming everywhere.

But it wasn't just this world.

Equestria, Night.

"Ah!" Celestia sat up from her bed, gasping as she felt Ghetsis's dark aura all the way from another universe.

"Gardevoir?" Passion responded to Celestia's gasp.

"W-What is this?" Celestia's heart was beating fast when responding to Ghetsis's dark aura. And not only that, his dark magic. "It feels so familiar yet..."

She wasn't sure why this feeling was so familiar. She recognized it as Sombra's magic but at the same time, it wasn't. It was something new and different.

But malevolent and dark nonetheless.

Back in Pyrestar's world, Ghetsis could see that if he goes any further, he might ruin his kingdom at this point. So, he decided to put an end to his little focus session as he lowered his hand.

The black aura faded away while the particles vanished.

"Hm-hm-hm." Ghetsis let out a small chuckle. "Magnificent. Truly magnificent. All these opportunities that I'm receiving are truly spiralling in my favour. Becoming the Supreme Ruler doesn't seem too far away now. It's already within my reach."

And with that small chuckle out of the way, Ghetsis started laughing maniacally. He was truly feeling like the luckiest individual out there right now.

Aside from his defeat in Saddle Arabia, luck and fate have been seemingly siding with him. So many opportunities have been smiling for Ghetsis.

Day by day, he only progresses even further. With Dark Aura and Dark Magic at his disposal as well as the Legendary Reshiram and his amplified Hydreigon, the once already fearsome Ghetsis was now slowly becoming unstoppable at this point.

It was no wonder why Sombra's magic chose him. It chose a being who could truly be worthy of such malice, fear and horrific nature.

Pure evil.

As the journey continues.
