Victory is right before your eyes!

Hoenn. Mossdeep City. Battle Carnival. The Pokemon Festival. Day.

After Hoopa Unbound's agitated actions, the battle between Ash and Bertha continued as normal. Ash was currently down four Pokemon while Bertha was down three. So far, Ash had the lead as his Pikachu was out facing Bertha's Whiscash.

A fainted Hoopa was currently being taken care of by Princess Twilight, resting in her hooves. Hoopa would be healed up fairly soon but he wished to see this battle through and through until Ash claimed victory.

"Quick Attack, Pikachu! Go!"

"Meet it with Zen Headbutt, Whiscash!"

"Pika!" Pikachu took off, approaching the Whiskers Pokemon becoming a yellow blur. Moving at lightning speeds created a white afterimage just from his velocity alone as Whiscash stood her ground instead of approaching her enemy. A force of mental energy had been formed around her head as a way to protect herself and fight back. "Pika-Pika!" Pikachu clashed heads with Whiscash, sending sparks flying. However, immediately after butting heads with her, Pikachu zipped away, leaving an afterimage behind.

"Cash?" Whiscash noticed this afterimage before turning around to see Pikachu approaching from the side. But she was too late to react in time. Pikachu had already tackled her sides. "Cash!"

"Nice hit!"

"But how will you respond to this?! Ice Beam!"

"Whis...Cash!" Whiscash opened her mouth to reveal a chilling aura, ready to be unleashed. It was Ash's call to respond to this attack before it lands and potentially freezes Pikachu.

"Move back with Quick Attack!" He already had something in mind.

"Pi!" The moment Ice Beam was unleashed, Pikachu zoomed to the side with Quick Attack. His afterimage had been hit by Ice Beam, however, the speed of the beam was so fast that Pikachu was almost grazed by it, narrowly evading the attack.

"Earthquake!"

"Whiscash!" Whiscash didn't stop there. She was going for an all-out attack. After nearly grazing Pikachu, she kept up a relentless assault, slamming her body on the ground. Earthquake had been unleashed yet again in this battle and it proved to be a huge threat for Pikachu and to an extension, Victini, who had yet to battle.

"Just what I was waiting for! Smash the ground with Iron Tail!"

"Chu...Pika!" The only way to evade Earthquake was by taking to the skies. And Pikachu, while not being a Flying-Type, had one trick that could solve that issue. By using Iron Tail, he smashed the ground, causing an immediate shockwave that sent his agile little body into the air. Right on time as the golden pillars of shockwaves came rushing his way.

"What the?!" Bertha gasped after witnessing this tactic. It was the best way for Pikachu to gain an aerial advantage.

"Let's use what Rayquaza left behind for us! Hit the rocks towards Whiscash!" Ash wasn't done yet. After what Rayquaza did when being summoned here by Hoopa, he capitalized on the collateral damage. The rubble had been shot into the air once Iron Tail and Earthquake struck the floor, giving Pikachu plenty of options.

"Pika! Pika!" With this ample airtime, he started swinging, smacking all the large rubble towards the Whiskers Pokemon. Pikachu found a way to combat against a Pokemon most of his strongest moves wouldn't even phase. He always does. The rocks came crashing in, rapidly smacking Whiscash in the face, pushing the Water-Ground-Type back with each consecutive hit.

"Now, come swinging down!"

"Chu...Pika!" From above, Pikachu would perform an overhead Iron Tail. With a few rolls in the air, he smacked Whiscash in the head with this overhead Iron Tail.

"C-Cash!" Whiscash was forced to the floor by the overhead Iron Tail. Accumulating the damage done by previous Pokemon such as Meloetta and Hoopa, that Iron Tail from that height had done the trick. Whiscash had fainted. "Whiscash..."

"Whiscash is unable to battle! Pikachu wins!"

"Yes! That's one down, two more to go!" Ash cheered as now Bertha was down just two Pokemon.

"He's so close to victory! Just two more Pokemon and that's it!" Pinkie Pie bellowed. "Everything's coming up sunny! Literally!" She then squinted as the sun rays gleamed at a high intensity.

"You've taken control of this battle from start to finish, Ash." Bertha returned Whiscash. "And...you've proven your point. A Pokemon Master is truly someone who can be versatile with any Pokemon even if they aren't the trainer of that Pokemon. That kind of skill is something most trainers strive to accomplish and you make it look easy."

"Yeah. But that's because I've got the greatest friends that ever could be found. Whether it's the other world or this world. And one day, every world out there. My journey to becoming a Pokemon Master's still gonna go strong once I see everything the world has to offer."

"Good. But...I believe it's time for me to take control of the battle! Go, Rhyperior!" Bertha sent out her next Pokemon, revealing it to e a Rhyperior.

"Rhyperior!"

"Rhyperior, huh? Okay then...That's definitely gotta be the most durable Pokemon in Bertha's team." said Ash as Pikachu readied himself for the worst.

"Rhyperior?" Upon witnessing Rhyperior's entrance, Sci-Twi needed to see what this wide-bodied Pokemon had to offer.

"Rhyperior. The Drill Pokemon. It can load up to three projectiles per arm into the holes in its hands. What launches out of those holes could be either rocks or Roggenrola. It relies on its carapace to deflect incoming attacks and throw its enemy off balance. As soon as that happens, it drives its drill into the foe. From holes in its palms, it fires out Geodude. Its carapace can withstand even volcanic eruptions."

"Stay strong, Pikachu. Rhyperior can take a lot and barely fall over!"

"Pika!"

"Hm-hm. Rock Wrecker!"

"Rhy!" Rhyperior wasted no time in attacking. Rhyperior puts his hands together as small chunks of grey stones emerged out of the holes situated right in Rhyperior's hands. They formed together into a large grey rock with a pulsating red aura around it as this was without a doubt Rhyperior's signature move.

"Go! Iron Tail!"

"Chu...Pika!" It would be a direct collision against Rock Wrecker. Pikachu would face the gigantic rock head-on with pure iron. To many, this would seem like a simple outcome as this was Iron going up against Rock. However, upon swinging at the rock, that was not the case.

The red aura from the rock is what gave it most of its power. And that power was made clear as it was pushing back Pikachu's Iron Tail, preventing him from shattering the rock.

"Pi...Pi!" Pikachu groaned, trying his best to break through, but it wasn't working. This rock was greater than any rock he had encountered thus far. The only benefit to this was that Rhyperior needed to recharge. However, thanks to the power of Roc Wrecker and how long it was keeping Pikachu occupied, the recharge process wouldn't be an issue.

"Rhyperior's had enough time to rest now. Add another, Rhyperior!"

"Perior!" Another Rock Wrecker had been used. A second large rock came flying in, meeting with the first one. That only caused problems for Pikachu as the addition of the second rock made it harder for him to keep up the struggle.

"Pika!" Thus, both rocks overpowered Pikachu's Iron Tail, sending him flying with two heavy hits.

"Pikachu! This is our only chance to affect Bertha's Pokemon. "Aim for the horn with Thunderbolt!"

"Pika...!" Pikachu flashed his eyes while still midair. The Mouse Pokemon would get his chance to damage Rhyperior by using an attack that would normally do nothing. But since Rhyperior's horn was made out of metal, that meant one thing. He was lightning rod.

However, the second the bolt of lightning hit Rhyperior's horn, nothing happened. It conducted, yes, but Rhyperior was unphased, shocking Ash and Pikachu.

"Sorry. But my Rhyperior seems to have Lightning Rod as his ability." Bertha smirked. "Thank you for the power boost! Dragon Rush!"

"Rhyperior!" Rhyperior then came charging in, flying through the air with the aura of a dragon around him. This attack made up for his lack of speed as he was coming in hot with Dragon Rush.

"Yikes! Dodge with Quick Attack! Go down!"

"Pika!" Pikachu had another close call. By using the speed of Quick Attack, he dashed downwards, leaving behind a white afterimage. Rhyperior only managed to get the afterimage as Pikachu had saved himself once more. "Pikachu!"

"Come back, for now, Pikachu!" Ash recalled Pikachu, changing up his game plan. Pikachu ran back as Rhyperior was already proving to be that one wall that Ash would have to try harder to topple. His horn strategy didn't work this time. Thanks to Rhyperior's Lightning Rod, the Drill Pokemon only got stronger thanks to that. "Rhyperior's a tough one. We need heavy hits that'll keep on coming. And I know just the guy for it! Let's go, Absol!"

"Absol!" Back in the fray was Twilight's Absol.

"Do your worst, Rhyperior! We're ready for it!" Ash exclaimed, encouraging Rhyperior to hit Absol with everything he has. Absol thought the same as well. He wanted Rhyperior to use the best attack in his arsenal.

"Be careful what you wish for! Rock Wrecker!"

"Rhyperior!" Along came Rock Wrecker once more. That same massive rock with a pulsating red aura had emerged, bigger than the previous ones. Ash was biding his time, waiting for the right moment to strike. Rhyperior was free to do whatever he wanted thanks to this momentary absence of Ash's commands and Absol's actions. as the rock was finally thrown.

"Now's our chance! Counter!"

"Sol!" The plan was to hit Rhyperior with Counter. And once that rock smashed into Absol, his body staggered, feeling the weight of a building harm his body. Absol grimaced from this impact, doing his best to stay active. Rhyperior needed to recharge as always, giving Absol the opportunity needed to strike. "Absol!" And this time, it would be up-close and personal instead of afar.

Absol appeared in front of Rhyperior with a glowing horn, having all the power of Rock Wrecker just for him. Rhyperior gasped as Absol slashed right past him with the full force of his horn. "R-Rhy!" Super-effective! Rhyperior felt that one, no doubt. Even with his great defence, that blow was enough to show signs of pain.

"Now, Dark Pulse!"

"Absol!" After slashing past the Ground-Rock-Type, Absol got one more hit in from behind. Dark Pulse was the next move that had been unleashed, knocking Rhyperior forward once it connected.

"Right back at you. Reversal!"

"Perior!" But Rhyperior had something similar to Counter. Reversal. The moment he had been slashed and blasted, Rhyperior had enough time to recharge. And once his energy was back, he did a strong turnaround, channelling all that damage into his arms. With a mighty swing, Absol had been socked in the face.

"A-Absol!" Absol's pupils shrunk as he was sent rocketing away, flying right past Bertha and crashing into the walls. The impact shook the seats of the crowd, showing just how hard Rhyperior hit him. Absol dropped from the wall, lying flat on his face as some rubble dropped on his head. After fighting a hard battle, he finally lost some steam. Absol had fainted. "Absol..."

"Absol is unable to battle! Rhyperior wins!" Just like that Bertha turned the tides, bringing Ash's Pokemon Count to just three while she was stuck at two. Twilight lowered her head as she was hoping Absol would make it to the end. Possibly even be the last Pokemon standing and grant Ash his victory. Alas, that wasn't happening."

"Thanks, Absol. You were awesome. Now, get some rest." Ash returned Absol to this Poke Ball. "Twilight!" Now that Absol was out of the game, it was time for him to return to his original owner as he launched the Poke Ball in Twilight's direction.

"Thanks, Ash!" Twilight then used her magic to catch Absol's Poke Ball in midair. "That's another Pokemon for me to heal it looks like."

"Okay." Ash adjusted his hat before taking a deep breath. "It's probably gonna come down to the wire. But we're gonna make sure that doesn't happen. Meloetta. I'm counting on you next."

"Melo? Meloetta!" Meloetta nodded in understanding. If there was anyone else that could seriously damage a Pokemon as durable as Rhyperior, it was her.

"But here's what we're gonna do." Before she could get in there, Ash had devised a new plan. Meloetta flew up to his face as the Alola Champion whispered softly to her. With her full attention being grabbed, Meloetta had been given a new game plan just for Rhyperior, but no one would know what it was until executed.

"Melo!" After the plan was given to her, she knew exactly which form to take without Ash even asking. Upon running past Ash, she did a stylish and graceful pirouette, summoning a flash of light from her body. And from that flash and pirouette, Meloetta emerged in her Pirouette Forme. "Meloetta!"

"I see what you're going for," Bertha commented. "But will it work? Let's find out, shall we? Rhyperior, use Rock Wrecker!"

"Rhy...Perior!" Starting off strong, Rhyperior was going for his strongest attack. Rock Wrecker. This time, with two rocks instead of one. The Drill Pokemon materialized two of them before launching these red pulsating grey rocks.

"We'll make it work! Close Combat, Meloetta!"

"Melo!" Meloetta would approach the rocks, just like how Pikachu did before. But things would be different. With pure power behind her legs, Meloetta ended up stepping on one of the rocks instead of just naturally kicking it. By stepping on the first rock, she created a platform for her to utilize. The Melody Pokemon then leapt off the first rock, using her momentum to kick the second one. With an increased momentum and velocity, this kick shattered the second rock while the first one was free to go wherever.

"Rhy?!" Rhyperior gasped after witnessing Meloetta's method past his strongest attack. She didn't even need to destroy both of them. After destroying them, she got up close to Rhyperior, delivering one kick to his stomach. "P-Perior!"

"Meloetta!" After diving her hoof into his stomach, Meloetta then followed up with a series of super-effective kicks, striking while Rhyperior was still recharging. Rhyperior's body was starting to stagger thanks to this as these various body blows were racking up damage. However, this also meant one thing. Reversal was being powered up.

"This is great and all but that Reversal could sting if Rhyperior manages to withstand all of this," Cloudchaser commented, already seeing how things could go wrong.

"All Meloetta has to do is knock him out. But look at how many he's taking!" Flitter added as Rhyperior was being pushed back by each hit, not falling down once. Each hit felt like a hammer being slugged against him.

"Come on, Ash...don't let Bertha get you with it..." Sci-Twi bit her nails.

"Melo...!" Meloetta then delivered an overhead kick to Rhyperior's head, trying to force him to the ground. But Rhyperior just wouldn't fall down. Rhyperior was certainly the bulkiest out of all Bertha's Pokemon. No arguments there.

"Now! Reversal!"

"Perior!" Rhyperior found an opportunity. All of that damage from before was channelled into his arms. Both of them. And all of that damage would be sent right back to Meloetta in full.

"Now! Transform!"

"Melo~!" And that's when Ash's plan had been revealed. The second the arms of Rhyperior had been swung, Meloetta switched formed. By letting the light engulf her, she switched from her Pirouette Forme to her Aria Forme. Once the hit came her way, she still received it. However, the risk was smaller. "M-Melo!" Meloetta was knocked back by the Reversal, suffering minimal damage in the process as it was a Fighting-Type attack. And with her Aria Forme, she resisted it greatly.

"Hm!?" Bertha's eyes widened.

"Yes! It worked!" Ash pumped his fist as his plan worked out in the end. "We did a quick switch. One minute she's in her Pirouette Forme and next, it's back to her Aria Forme!"

"Genius! That way, Rhyperior's Reversal won't be very effective! Way to go, Ash!" Sci-Twi applauded, seeing Ash's plan. So did everyone else as they cheered for it.

"Great! But wait. How come Rhyperior could swing so fast if it's so slow?" Pinkie Pie wondered. "That Reversal was faster than it looks."

"There's a difference between hitting fast and moving fast," Hilda added. "Rhyperior may be slow when it comes to movement but its reaction speed and physical speed say otherwise. It's too slow to dodge but it's fast enough to do something about threats."

"And it gets better. Meloetta's slower in this form but her ranged attacks hit harder than her close-up attacks! Like so! Psychic!"

"Melo!" Meloetta, from a far distance, had flashed eyes, immediately taking control of Rhyperior. Rhyperior, after receiving the hardest beatdown of his life, was only going to be further attacked from here on as even though it was difficult to knock him down, lifting him up was a different case. Meloetta had enough Psychic power in this form to raise the Drill Pokemon up from the ground, faring better in this form

"Rhyperior! Dragon Rush!"

"R-Rhyperior!" But even when held up, Rhyperior wouldn't let himself be beaten that easily. While in the air, he overtook Meloetta's Psychic hold by summoning a draconic aura around his body. By doing so, not only did he break free of Psychic, but he was rocketing down with a high-velocity rush.

"Here we go! Meet it with Close Combat Meloetta! Switch!"

"Melo!" But even then, Meloetta had a response for that. She flew towards Rhyperior before swiftly switching forms yet again. In the blink of an eye, a silhouette of her Pirouette Forme could be seen holding her leg out. After the light faded and revealed her Normal-Fighting-Type form, she smashed her foot into Rhyperior's draconic aura, resulting in an outburst of energy.

The crowd watched in awe from this collision as it was only for a second that they could see Meloetta's actions. They could only wait for the dust to settle. Out of the smoke, Meloetta and Rhyperior had simultaneously descended,d landing perfectly on the floor. It looked to be an equal exchange.

At least, that seemed to be the case from a first glance. But once they were both out of the smoke, taking a few seconds to breathe in and out, the victor of that clash had been revealed.

"R-Rhyperior..." Rhyperior had been done in by that Close Combat strike, dropping to the floor. He had fainted, leaving Bertha with only one.

"Rhyperior is unable to battle, Meloetta wins!"

"Hm. Return, Rhyperior." Bertha recalled Rhyperior as Meloetta took a knee. She has been exhausting herself in this battle, more so than ever. She rarely ever battles and for her first one, she was doing a great job. "So, I'm down to just one. Though this is my last Pokemon...I've seen what you truly have to show, Ash."

"Had me worried there..." Hilbert sighed. "He's good at making close calls, isn't he?"

"You don't know the half of it." Twilight shook her head. "Ash was the master at close-calls when it comes to most battles he's been in. He knows how to put everyone on edge.

"My carnival's gonna rocket in popularity because of this..." The owner wiped tears from his eyes, proud of what has transpired here. From the Mythical Pokemon to the appearance of Rayquaza. It was all looking up for his carnival.

"Meloetta. Rest up. We're going for broke in this one."

"Meloetta." While she wasn't out of the game, she would rest and leave it up to the rest of her teammates. And Ash only had one Pokemon left to battle with it. Victini. And as for Bertha, it was just her Hippowdon left. After this, the battle would be over and everyone would leave here as satisfied customers.

"Let's wrap it up! Hippowdon!"

"Victini! I choose you!"

The last two Pokemon had arrived. Victini and Hippowdon. Fitting as Ash was banking on the Victory Pokemon to carry him to victory. But before that, Bertha needed to think to herself. Mainly about Ash and his progress.

"Ash. From the moment I met you, your observation skills were still fresh. You were a powerful trainer with room to grow and I was hoping that one day, your skills would take you to greater heights. And after seeing you battle at the Lily of the Valley Conference and everyone you've accomplished recently...I was right to meet you and train you. I'm starting to believe there are no coincidences. Everything happens for a reason, possibly."

"Let's go, Victini! V-Create!"

"Victini!" Starting off strong was Victini's signature move. V-Create. Victini's ears ignite into flames before then disappearing, leaving behind a V-shaped yellow flame around his head and a blazing red aura around Victini's body.

"Hippowdon, Crunch!"

"Pow!" Hippowdon would meet with the Fire-Psychic-Type, having just the right arsenal to face him, covering his fangs in a veil of darkness. He waited for Victini to approach, making sure he had the right position to bite down on him.

"I don't think so! Start moving, Victini!"

"Tini!" The second Victini got close to Hippowdon, instead of going for a direct attack, Victini flew above the Heavyweight Pokemon, causing him to miss Crunch. Afterwards, a downwards headbutt had been performed, crashing into Hippowdon's back with V-Create. A large explosion emerged from it. large enough to engulf them both and almost reach both Trainers.

"H-Hippow!" Hippowdon felt that one, sliding back as Victini was coming in for another.

"Dig!"

"Hippo!" Quicky burrowing underground, Hippowdon evaded the next incoming V-Create. Now it was a matter of knowing where he was going to pop up next.

"Victini! Use Psychic to grab the rubble!"

"Tini!" Victini then used Psychic, bringing the rubble toward him as the area was still being used to Ash's advantage.

"Hippowdon!" After bringing the rubble to him, Hippowdon emerged the floor, making his reappearance. From below, he headbutted Victini, sending the Victory Pokemon upwards.

"T-Tini!"

"Unleash the rubble, Victini! Now!"

"Victini!" But the plan kept going. After being knocked upwards, Victini, who appeared upside down, sent the rubble in the form of rain. A rain of rubble came crashing down, rapidly bombarding the Heavyweight Pokemon in midair.

"H-Hippowdon!" With this, Hippowdon received some collateral damage, but it wasn't enough.

"We're not done yet! I've been saving this! Power-up Punch!" Ash smashed his fists together to replicate the impact of Power-up Punch.

"Tini...Tini...Victini!" Victini then came crashing down with his fist out. That fist possessed the power to grow if it manages to land. It was weak now, but a few good hits will increase it for certain.

"Wait for it..." Bertha waited for Victini to get close enough. And thanks to Victini's small and agile body, it didn't take long at all for that to happen. "Crunch!"

"Hippowdon!" But Hippowdon could potentially prevent that from happening. And indeed, he did. The second Victini came close, Hippowdon waiting for the right moment to strike. And that moment had been found. Victini's arm had been caught.

"T-Tini!" Power-up Punch had been stopped with haste. Victini cried out as Hippowdon delivered a super-effective hit to the Fire-Psychic-Type while also holding him in his clutches. "V-Victini!"

"Iron Head!"

"Pow!" And while Victini was restrained, unable to break free. A free hit for Hippowdon as he smashed his hardened head onto Victini's head.

"T-Tini!" But that wasn't the end of it. Another Iron Head was coming as Hippowdon pulled his head back.

"Right back at you! V-Create!"

"Victini!" Hippowdon wasn't the only one with a headbutting attack. Victini ignited his head, ready to meet Hippowdon head-on with his own head-smashing attack. Once V-Create and Iron Head clashed, yet again, the ferocious energy from Victini's V-Create went off, setting off an explosion around them both. Ash held onto his hat while Bertha grabbed her coat, keeping it on.

This was truly an explosive battle. Figuratively and literally. And through it all, the smile on their faces made it clear that it was fun. But all good things must come to an end but in this case, there were more good things to come after this.

"Finish it Hippowdon! Fissure!"

"Hippowdon!" Hippowdon revealed his strongest move. Stronger than even Dig. Fissure. By delivering a full-force stomp to the ground, the Heavyweight Pokemon opened up a fissure, sending a wave of bluish-white energy towards the Victory Pokemon as the energy burst out of the ground.

"Let's finish this! Burn! Burn brighter, Victini! V-Create!" ASh thrust his fist into the air, encouraging Victini to give out a final hurrah.

"Victini!" Victini would do just that. By using an astronomical amount of power from his body, he performed one final V-Create. And this was the biggest yet. Instead of charging in, Victini unleashed all of that power as an area-wide explosion of fire, bursting from his entire body.

The two bursts of energy had met, clashing ferociously as the windows of the Battle Carnival were coming off. Children and smaller Pokemon were being blown away from their seats just from this fierce clash. But only one of them had the power to break through.

"TINI!" And that was the infinite power of Victini. He wasn't even close to his limit. By simply adding more power to his attack, the flames consumed the white bursts of Fissure's energy. Hippowdon was next, losing his body to the flames.

And this time, the attack didn't combust. The flames simply died down. A fitting end as the chaos had calmed down, coming to an end. Once those flames vanished, Hippowdon was unable to withstand what had come his way. It was set in stone as the Heavyweight Pokemon dropped to the side.

"Hippowdon..." Hippowdon had fainted.

"Hippowdon is unable to battle! Victini wins! Thus, the victor of this battle and the new Champion of the Battle Carnival is Ash!"

"Victory! That's why you're the Victory Pokemon, Victini!" Overwhelmed with joy, Ash, Pikachu and Meloetta simultaneously jumped for joy as the crowd thundered with their highest applause yet.

"Tini!" Victini, proud of his own accomplishment raced back to his best friends. He held hands with Pikachu and Meloetta, joyfully dancing around. Ash had won with only three Pokemon left, claiming victory with a surprising number advantage.

"They did it! Never doubled them for a second!" Hilbert applauded.

"Guess that's that." Bertha walked over to Hippowdon. "Many thanks for this, Hippowdon. You battled well. But the next generation of Pokemon Trainers always finds a way to outpace the old."

"Hippo."

"Though, in this case, I suppose Ash is the old generation, ready to usher in the new."

The Battle Carnival had just finished its best battle yet as Ash was tackled by his teammates, laying on the ground, laughing with them. All of his friends rushed over to congratulate him as Bertha found perfect solace knowing that this generation and the future generation involving Equestria and the rest of the world was in good hands and hooves.

The Witch was still present here as well, watching Ash's stunning victory and lightly applauding it. That's all she could do. Nothing more. This time, she didn't bother to sneak away or leave. At least, not yet.

Their time at the Battle Carnival was about to come to an end. And their next destination would lead them to someplace less battle heavy. Winding down was the way to go now.

As the journey continues.
