A Tale of Two Twilight's

Universe 6. Equestria. Canterlot. Twilight's Home. Afternoon.

The Twilight Sparkle of this universe was still choosing to shelter herself within her parents' home due to the reputation the Empress left behind. She could speak to very few of her friends, hiding from everyone else at not just Equestria, but this entire universe.

Speaking of which, some of her friends had shown up to be there for her. Mainly Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash and Rarity. Once locked up by the Empress and had their time stolen but ever since the invasion ended and with a touch of Discord's magic, they had been aged back to retrieve those missing years. But even if they had a second chance to catch up, Twilight felt as if she had no time at all. Despite being an alicorn, thanks to what the Empress had done, Twilight Sparkle was not confident in her future.

"Chin up, Twilight." Rainbow Dash said. "We're here now. Some of us, anyway. Feeling younger than ever too."

"We had a great Hearth's Warming last year when we were reunited. You seemed so happy then." Fluttershy added.

"I was still with all of you. That's all." Twilight lowered her head. "I'm afraid of what'll happen if I go out there. I'll be looked at in the worst way. Or worse! Somepony might have it out for me! Or not even a pony! Maybe a dragon or a changeling or-" She started thinking of the worst possible scenarios.

"If anypony dares try and get you...well, Rainbow Dash already knows what the answer to that is." Rarity turned to the multi-coloured-maned pegasus.

"Thanks, girls. Wish I could also see Spike but bringing him here since he's full-grown would just attract too much attention to my parents' home. But...glad to know he's doing well for himself right now at Ponyville. I didn't expect that growth spurt for him."

"You got a growth spurt too..." Rainbow Dash commented as now Twilight was the third tallest amongst her friend group. First being Spike and the second being Discord.

"Well, when you're ready to return to the outside world, here are these!" Rarity came with gifts. So did Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy as Rarity brought them all over. You can't be staying here without anything to keep you company. We will keep you company, along with what excites you."

"Thank you, girls!" A smile graced her face. Being with her friends allowed Twilight's gloomy aura to fade away. Even if it was briefly as she grabbed the gifts with her magic. "I think I may have needed this."

"No problem. By the way...How'd the Empress figure out how to come to you in the first place?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"Come to me?" Twilight turned to her. "Oh. About that...you see...I actually came to her."

"You did?" All three of them leaned in as there was some information about this mixup that could be important to take in.

"Mm. I did tell Princess Celestia and all of you about where I've been. But I never did say what went down." Twilight opened her gifts before thinking back to when this disaster first happened. "It happened years ago. It was when Spike and I just finished stopping Starlight from messing with time. Sunset Shimmer was also sending me letters that I missed out on for a while."

"It happened right after that?" Fluttershy questioned. "So you must've bumped into here, didn't you?"

"You could say that, Fluttershy. I'll tell you what happened. And how we got here. But it won't be long, that's for sure." Twilight was ready to spill everything she knew. It would be short, but critical nonetheless.

Universe 11. Equestria. The Solar Empire. Canterlot. Afternoon.

And speaking of Empress Twilight, she herself was thinking of what to do next. She had already been foiled twice now by the forces of Universe 1. However, even after all those failures, she remained persistent in her goals.

She thought about Universe 1 and all the trouble it had caused her. It was safe to say that every individual from that universe aggravated her with a burning hatred boiling within her. The Pokemon World was included. Empress Twilight's forces were also dwindling across multiple universes thanks to Reshiram and Zekrmon along with the Universal Alliance formed by the Princess Celestia of Universe 1.

"Everything I built is dying down." She spoke to herself, standing near the Canterlot Gardens. "But...I still have my ways of coming back. My ace in the holes won't run out. Especially with the world parallel to this." Empress Twilight Sparkle also thought about the parallel human world that mirrored this earth in many ways.

The earth that she had originated from. Much like the Twilight Sparkle from Equestria, she started thinking back to that world but in a different light.

30 Years Ago. The Human World. Canterlot High. Afternoon.

An event that was far too familiar.

This was during the Equestria Games. A contest between Canterlot High and Crystal Prep Academy. This scenario had already happened before. In Universe 1 and without a doubt other universes out there. Everything from this very day had been carried out as time would've intended it to, but this was where this universe deviated from the first.

Midnight Sparkle existed here as well. A Twilight Sparkle that had unleashed the magic from within her pendant, transforming her into this overflowing magical she-demon.

And just like the other universes, Daydream Shimmer, the alter-ego to Sunset Shimmer had been born She used her powers to seal the dimensional rifts, engaging Midnight in an explosive magical battle. Time seemed to always come back to this one moment. But, with every parallel universe out there, there is a parallel outcome and this was one of them. Their beams clashed ferociously for everyone else remaining here to see.

"I can't...hold it...!" In this universe, Daydream Shimmer was struggling to hold back Midnight Sparkle's magic. Midnight's beam had overpowered Daydream's with nothing to distract her and break her trance for a bit.

"I told you I understood the magic now. It didn't take long for me to master it. You can't beat me!" Midnight exclaimed as her beam had expanded, overpowering Daydream. Daydream gasped as her beam was consumed. And with Midnight proving to have the edge, she had been struck.

"G-Gaaaah!" Daydream Shimmer cried out as the dark purple beam had engulfed her once it made direct contact. Before she knew it, Daydream had been completely overwhelmed. Despite gaining the magic of Loyalty, Honesty, Kindness, Laughter and Generosity, the unleashed magic that Midnight possessed proved to be slightly greater.

"Sunset!" The five of her friends cried out as Daydream fell from the sky. Not only did she fall, but the magic she received had been blown away by Midnight's force, reverting her into Sunset Shimmer. Applejack and Pinkie Pie quickly caught her before she could potentially hit the ground hard.

Midnight Sparkle had won. A complete parallel to Universe one's outcome.

Sunset groaned, realizing that the Magic of Friendship had failed her. It was hard to believe it but the results did not lie. There was no other magic left to counteract Midnight Sparkle. All of it belonged to her. The She-Demon laughed with lightning sparking from the darkened clouds, brimming with her magical influence.

"T-Twilight..." Sunset could barely stand as her friends were keeping her up. "You don't have to do this..."

"Eh. Too late. I already have. Look at all of this." Midnight showed her the portals throughout the dimensions that she had effortlessly opened up. She even opened another one just because she felt like it. "You couldn't stop me. Now no one can...With all of this magic...I could do so much. I could do more than just travel wherever...Anything's possible. Especially since this is magic we're talking about."

"You can't!" Sunset exclaimed. "You're tampering with something you don't understand, Twilight!"

"And who's going to stop me? It's definitely not you!" She then aimed her hand at the Main 6, unleashing a blast of magic. The speed of it was far too fast for any of them to even avoid. The moment they attempted fleeing from it, the blast had already connected.

And with that blast, Midnight Sparkle ended up turning them all into stone. They had been petrified, stuck in different poses that were all based on running. They all had faces of fear on them while completely stone-frozen. Sunset Shimmer's eyes were closed as she knew when she had been defeated.

Midnight looked over, seeing their petrified poses and expressions. She then descended, touching the ground as her magical aura had burnt away the blades of grass. The She-Demon observed her surroundings for a bit, seeing that there was little left. Everyone else had fled while the Main 6 were left behind. That is until she saw the Shadowbolts.

They were still within this vicinity as they had witnessed the horrific petrification of the students they were competing against earlier who had also saved their lives later on. But they could not save them.

The Shadowbolts certainly weren't brave enough to confront this magical entity despite how cocky they appear. They as well knew their limits. And especially when to flee. Midnight Sparkle did not bother dealing with them or anyone else that could be nearby.

Midnight did shift her eyes, searching for one more individual. Her pet dog Spike. But he was nowhere to be found. All she could see was rubble from the explosive battle she and Sunset had.

Midnight Sparkle pondered on what to do next. She looked at the various portals, knowing that they were ripe for travelling through. Through the portals, the ponies from Equestria were also curious and somewhat worried about the sudden appearance of these rips through reality itself.

"I could start small..." Twilight looked at her arm before then looking at the portals to Equestria. "But this is more like starting big now that I look at it. That works better in my eyes. But first, maybe I can do something about this place before any of that."

The magic had already affected her mind. Any piece of the old Twilight was gone as the raging magic from multiple sources not only transformed her appearance but even the way she thought. And Twilight loved it. Not a single complaint.

She had become power-hungry, realizing that with the power of magic, the possibilities were endless. And she would take full advantage of that. She took flight, ascending into the darkened skies, off to learn more about this newfound power that she now owns. The statues of the Main 6 were left there for hours straight.

One day later.

A day had passed in this universe. The Friendship Games ended abruptly as the portals to Equestria had suddenly vanished. All of this was done under the control of Twilight Sparkle or Midnight Sparkle as her alternate name.

Twilight stayed at Canterlot High for one reason. The portal to Equestria. She recalled how important the statue of the horse was to Sunset Shimmer and how it also had magic. Twilight needed to know exactly what was lying beyond the statue.

Her appearance was slightly different to what she was previously. Twilight retained her normal human form, however, her eyes were still emanating that light blue aura from Midnight Sparkle as well as a tint of darkness within her mane. She certainly wasn't exaggerating when she said that she had understood the magic so easily. Already, Twilight managed to maintain it. But it was not perfect yet.

Twilight placed her hand on the portal, allowing her magic to sense it. It made sense to her. This statue had the same properties as the portals she opened up. "So it's another portal, is it? And it probably leads to that other world."

Twilight smirked before turning around, acing the statues of the Main 6 which were still there. No one was brave enough to come back to the school as an endless dark cloud hovered over it with light blue and purple lightning crackling constantly. It was nothing but a danger zone. Not even Prinicipal Celestia or Vice-Principal Luna had returned here as the school was completely empty.

"That's why you were so cautious when the magic was taken from the statue." Twilight had suddenly revealed her wings that she also kept from Midnight Sparkle's birth. They burst out of the back of her top as she hovered over to Sunset's statue. "Most likely...you've been there before. Or maybe you come from there. You're the only one who could transform just like me after all."

The statue of Sunset Shimmer did not respond as to be expected. But even so, she could hear Twilight's words whilst Twilight cackled. "I could feel the magic coming from that world. It has more magic there, doesn't it? Oh yes...it has to. So I have more options for passing through that world...but my magic can suffice."

And as she was prepared to enter Equestria, someone had come through the portal. Twilight was made alert of this, slowly turning around as the one to pass through it was her.

Or rather, the Twilight Sparkle from Equestria. The Princess of Friendship. This was where it began. Where the two Twilight's met. Only in this universe, Midnight Sparkle remained.

"I'm so sorry I didn't get here sooner! I didn't get your messages until just now because I was caught in this time travel loop and, honestly, it was the strangest thing that's ever happened to me!" Twilight went on, only to stop abruptly before another sentence could come out of here.

Her reasoning for stopping was because of a few things. For starters, the rubble from yesterday was still present across the school along with the dark clouds flashing lightning of different colours. But the one thing that caught her off guard was her counterpart. She expected to see Sunset Shimmer when entering this world, only to meet herself.

"Who are you?" They both said in unison.

"You came from that statue...you're from that world, aren't you?" Midnight Sparkle questioned.

"You're my counterpart!" Twilight had put it together immediately. She had already seen the counterparts of her friends so this was not hard to understand. But it had certainly caught her off guard. "W-What happened here?! Where's Sunset?"

"Where? Right here, of course." Midnight Sparkle hovered to the side, revealing not only Sunset Shimmer but Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Applejack and Fluttershy. All six of them and their stone prisons.

"No!" Twilight shouted with a combination of shock and horror in her voice. Twilight was frozen as well after witnessing the fate of her friends. After showing up here, processing this entire scenario was starting to become clear. A lot happened here and Twilight could only look to her counterpart in this instance.

When looking at Midnight Sparkle, she could see the wings viciously flapping behind her and the magic radiating around her eyes. That was a red flag that didn't need to be looked at a second time.

"What did you do?!" Twilight growled, saddened and furious about this outcome.

"A lot happened here. But all you need to know is that this is nothing compared to what I could potentially do next. All of this magic is just waiting to be improved. And I'm just the one to do it."

"You..." Twilight's anger had immediately come up. All she saw was another power-hungry individual with high magical power to do almost anything she wanted. It wouldn't be the first time she's come across this kind of foe.

"Hoh? Getting mad, are we?" Midnight Sparkle smirked, proving to be less shy than the Twilight she used to be. "I've never seen myself look so aggravated before. It's a good thing I won't have to worry about ever seeing that again with what I can do now."

Twilight tried unleashing her own magic that originated from Equestria and could be found here as well. Seeing her friends in this state tampered with her emotions. However, Twilight soon felt nothing. There was not a semblance of magic in the air. Not only that, but getting her magic out in this way was never a sure-fire way, nor has she ever done it before.

"My magic..." Twilight gasped.

"All of it's gone. Right here." Midnight Sparkle suddenly held a wisp of magic that had once belonged to her Equestrian Counterpart. "The magic that I had discovered is now one with me. What a wonderful feeling..."

"All of it?"

"All of it. At least in this area. But there's more I could have, isn't there? You came from that world...so that must mean magic is a common thing for you. A shame you didn't come here with any magic of your own."

"She's right." Twilight looked at her hands. "I can't even pony-up here...Just what happened here?"

"Your world is what I want to visit next. There's so much I want to do!" Midnight suddenly held her arm out, unleashing magic from within it. Twilight actually ended up being able to just barely notice it coming her way. A perk of having alicorn magic deep within her but it was a shame none of it was showing up.

Twilight yelped before moving to the side. The beam had passed her, hitting the statue instead. The state had already been destroyed yesterday with just the legs of the horse remaining. But now, the rest of it had been obliterated.

"Wait!" Twilight cried out, putting out her arm as Midnight stopped for a moment.

"Oh. You managed to make me stop for a moment. Won't happen again." Midnight's eyes flared.

"Are you going to turn me to stone too?" Twilight asked with a nervous and serious face at the same time.

"That depends. I can do anything I want. But since you're me...I could take a different route."

"We're both the same here." Twilight slowly stood up with her hands up. "Let's just stop for a bit. You met with my friends here so something must've happened. The letters I got from Sunset Shimmer mentioned the magic here. You've obviously found it for yourself."

"I have. It was unintentional though." Midnight shrugged as Twilight was slowly backing up to the portal. "The device I made was meant to track all of that energy but it also ended up being able to absorb the magic. Once it gathered enough, I could unleash the magic on myself and reach a new capability that I would've never thought existed."

"I see. So this was all one big accident." Twilight scrunched her face with visible sweat drops appearing. "If that's the case, then all of that magic inside of you is messing with your mind."

"Is it now?"

"Yes. This world isn't used to the magic here. It's not even known all that much if at all." Twilight started stalling for time while also trying to talk Midnight out of it. "That much power can corrupt anyone if they're not ready for it."

"I'm clearly ready!" Midnight declared with a booming sound that caused a mild wind pressure. Twilight's hair had been blown in the wind by it. "Look at me. Just yesterday, I took the time to start learning what I could do until tomorrow morning. I understand the magic very well."

"I can't argue with that. But it is something that you can't just take lightly. I don't know what you were like before this but there's no way this is you."

"You're right. It isn't me. But I much prefer this new me." She put on a sinister smile with the sound of thunder rumbling. The dark clouds were starting to spread, going beyond Canterlot High. "The old Twilight was so fragile and unsound. The only thing that matters was her intellect and nothing more. But I've cast aside that old Twilight. I feel far more confident than I've ever been as you can see. Confident in my abilities and confident in what I can do next. I broke out of my shell in the best way possible!"

"Is this how you want to break out of your shell?"

"Absolutely. Since you're my counterpart, you should know." Midnight pointed at Twilight with a tiny orb of magic on her nail, ready to be unleashed at any time.

"I do know..." Twilight closed her eyes. "It took me some time to break out too...But I also know what this magic does. Sunset ended up in a similar spot as you when I first met her. Even if you can handle that power, it won't give you everything you want."

"Funny. Sunset said the thing and look what happened to her. She had the nerve to say that I could be all alone. Ridiculous." Midnight balled her hand into a fist with a spark of magic emanating from it. "What was that magic she mentioned? The Magic of Friendship. It sounded so impressive but...well, you can probably guess the result."

"Alone?" Twilight stood upright.

"And...maybe Sunset has a point. I was alone." For a moment, the old Twilight was starting to show herself from within Midnight Sparkle. But the old Twilight had vanished right after as only Midnight Sparkle was left. "But I can make sure that I never will be alone ever again."

"I understand what you mean...but either way. I won't let you go any further." Twilight felt for her counterpart but also vowed to stop her before its too late. "It's not too late to help you before you hurt others."

"Hmph. I would believe that the only one who can stop me is well...me. But I'm afraid that won't happen. You have no magic and most importantly...you can't return!" Midnight referred to the portal to Equestria as she ended up unleashing the orb of magic that she kept on her fingernail, sending it to her counterpart.

Twilight closed her eyes, unsure of how what to do without any magic. However, that was when the petrified statues of the Main 6 started to glow. Despite being immobile, action was still occurring without Midnight doing anything to them. Six different lights had flown out of them, moving at speeds much faster than Midnight's orb.

Midnight blinked for a second as the lights had finished passing her in a split second. They appeared as tendrils before then going straight for Twilight. Just as Sunset Shimmer thought in her final moments before being turned into stone, there would be someone to retaliate against Midnight.

That ended up being her counterpart as all 6 six lights had entered Twilight with Midnight's orb being blocked off, dissipated upon contact with them. She soon opened her eyes, noticing how she was unharmed. Midnight Sparkle squinted as the lights surrounded Twilight, gently gracing her.

Twilight could also feel it. This feeling was all too familiar as she embraced the magic. "What is this?!" Midnight gasped.

"This is what Sunset mentioned," Twilight spoke as her magic flared, granting her wings and a horn as she had finally gained access to magic. She hovered over the ground with the wind blowing. "This is the Magic of Friendship."

"The Magic of Friendship again?" Midnight groaned. "It's nothing special. I'll prove it by overpowering it again!" Without hesitation, Midnight had attacked, unleashing another magical beam. In response, Twilight put her hand out as well, retaliating immediately.

Similar to what happened yesterday, both beams clashed, but this time, instead of one of them overpowering the other, the two had ended immediately, proving to be equal. Twilight and Midnight had ascended immediately to the dark skies, promptly unleashing magic onto each other.

Far in the distance, the people of Canterlot Town looked over at Canterlot High, noticing purple and light blue lights flashing through the skies. They already decided not to approach Canterlot High and this certainly wasn't convincing them to head there. However, they soon noticed the dark skies ahead were starting to approach the town.

Twilight and Midnight created spheres of magic around themselves as shields that they had then crashed into each other. So far, they proved to be completely even. Fitting as they were the same individual. Their conflict continued far longer than yesterday with Canterlot High being affected once more by the sparks of magic.

"How come you're still standing?!" Midnight roared, attempting to grab Twilight, only for Twilight's arms to retaliate promptly, holding Midnight's back with their fingers interlocking.

"As long as I have the magic of my friends to help, I can't lose!" Twilight stated as Midnight furiously pushed her arms forward to try and overpower her Equestrian Counterpart. But Twilight ended up gaining the edge, pushing Midnight back.

Midnight closed her eyes, flaring out more of her magic to try and succeed, but the alicorn magic in Twilight that she had earned proved to give her the advantage, allowing her magic to shine brighter than Midnight's as the dark clouds in the skies were starting to diminish. Midnight could see that Twilight was the overpowering force. Not her. Soon, she could end up defeated like Sunset Shimmer.

Midnight could see that she could not win this battle. At least, not in the way she was doing so. She decided to go for one option that could potentially grant her the victory. Midnight pulled back before Twilight's magic could consume her, descending to the ground. She looked up at Twilight, who looked down at her.

"We can stop this right now, me," Twilight said before approaching Midnight. "I'd hate to see you continue down this path."

"Stop? As if I'd stop when I've already reached this point. I could go so far with what I've discovered." Midnight closed her eyes with her hand trembling. "I can't let anyone stop me. Not even myself!" She still showed hostility, unleashing another magical ray against her counterpart. However, her other arm was doing something entirely different.

As Twilight blocked out the ray with her magic, she prepared her own ray for Midnight, unleashing it. However, this was where Midnight decided to play dirty, using her magic to telekinetically bring over the statues of the Main 6.

Twilight gasped as her ray had almost touched them. She held the ray back immediately before it could end up harming her friends. But that was exactly the tactic that Midnight needed as she took this golden opportunity. "Gotcha!" She cried out, zapping Twilight with another beam while her guard was down.

"Aaah!" Twilight screamed with the beam of Midnight. Midnight took another shot, hitting Twilight with repeated beams while she was still feeling the first one that had surprised her. Twilight felt as if arrows were piercing her at the moment as each of Midnight's beams targeted her arms, legs and more. Eventually, one of the beams was meant to hold Twilight in place as if she had been hit by lightning.

"That was close!" Midnight said before dropping the statues of the Main 6. They hit the ground, almost cracking from the impact. "I could've lost there. But I can't lose to even myself."

"S-Same here!" Twilight closed her eyes as she was starting to fight back against Midnight's magic with a purple aura slowly overlaying the light blue aura Midnight had summoned. Midnight refused to let Twilight gain the advantage anymore as she poured more of her magic into this beam. Midnight then looked down at Sunset Shimmer and the others deciding to use them once more. But not as shields. After seeing Twilight gain magic from their stone bodies, she decided to take some for herself.

Much like how she stole the magic from this area and the Main 6 previously, she did it again. The Main 6 had become targets for Midnight's power consumption as she did it without even having to face them. Magic was drawn to her as if she was a black hole. Now she had extra power to pour out, especially against Twilight who had been injured from that sneak attack.

Eventually, this clash of awesome magic resulted in a volatile action. The thunder cracked from above as the ground started to shake. The result was a chaotic paroxysm of magic that had turned into a blinding white light. This light had consumed them with both Twilight and Midnight closing their eyes.

Once the light faded away, a massive hole in the clouds had been made, showing the azure blue skies while also keeping some of the dark clouds around. And afterwards, there was no trace of Twilight and Midnight anywhere.

Equestria. Badlands. Day.

Twilight and Midnight ended up in Equestria. Their magic clash was so powerful that it resulted in a portal to Equestria being opened up, bringing them here. Twilight was back home while Midnight was in a whole new world.

"Ugh..." Midnight groaned before noticing a drastic change. It was not her magic, but rather her appearance. Once she got up, she could no longer feel her hands. Now, she felt something else. Hooves. She held her hoof out, noticing how her hands had vanished.

Midnight then touched her face, noticing that it felt different. Her nose was different as her ears were located higher up on her head. Midnight Sparkle knew this biology very well. She had even seen it once opening the portals yesterday.

She had become a pony.

"What?!" Midnight gasped upon realizing the form that she had taken. She felt herself having natural wings now, flapping them. This was certainly surprising, far more than what happened back in her world. Midnight calmed down promptly before then noticing Twilight nearby.

Twilight was back in her natural form, however, the repeated attacks from Midnight proved to have an effect as she groaned on the ground, slowly getting up. Midnight struck before it could continue, using her magic to create magical whips. The whip had surrounded Twilight's hooves, wings and horn, restraining her.

"So this is your world." Midnight approached. "The magic I'm feeling here is amazing...I could do without the pony body though..."

"This isn't over!" Twilight's horn flared, attempting to break the whips.

"Oh, but it is! I should've done this from the start!" Midnight suddenly held Twilight's face before then going for one final magic consumption. This time from Twilight herself. Even in her pony form, she could still absorb magic. All she needed was a proper focus upon contact and this was just the moment for it.

Twilight's eyes flared along with Midnight's as the magic from her was being taken. Unable to fight back thanks to the whips, Twilight's magic was being pulled away with nothing to stop Midnight. The light that came from their eyes intensified, transforming into a white sphere that illuminated the badlands.

The light soon vanished from Twilight's eyes, but not Midnight. Midnight kept that glow for a bit longer, backing up as she could feel the tremendous magic flowing within her. First the magic from the Main 6 and now the mighty alicorn magic from her counterpart. It was all so stupendous.

"Ugh..." Twilight felt weak, lowering her head as she tried falling down, only for the whips to keep her up.

"This is amazing! I knew I could go further." A devious cackle came to Midnight's mouth. Her cackle was elevated from the magic flaring from her body as the white glow in her eyes vanished at last. "For now, I'm satisfied."

"Please. Don't do this..." Twilight still tried reasoning with her. She used the last ounce of her magic that she had remaining to break the whips. But while she did end up breaking the whips, it was too late now as Midnight had taken her magic.

"I already have." Midnight looked down at Twilight who could not stand upright. "This world and the magic that flows through it is incredible. It far outclasses my world. Here...it feels like a natural occurrence. I think I could get used to this place, minus this appearance."

"I'm not alone in this world...I have more friends here." Twilight growled. "My friends aren't just limited to your world."

"Is that so...The Magic of Friendship exists here." Midnight pondered before then turning around. A stunning realization came to her. Something she could use. "Then in that case...how would you feel if I used it?"

"What?" Twilight's eye twitched.

"I won't just stick around here. I think I'll fill in for you."

"Fill in for..." Twilight realized what that meant. "No! You can't!"

"Yes, I can. Look at me." Midnight spread her wings before facing Twilight. "We could be twin sisters. This Magic of Friendship... was so weak on Sunset and yet you ended up having a superior version of it. Your magic is greater than hers, isn't it?"

"Kh...!" Twilight grit her teeth as her counterpart was smart enough to catch on.

"I will become this world's Twilight Sparkle." Midnight looked to the skies. "The Magic of Friendship isn't so bad either. Especially if everyone is my friend. Right?"

"I won't let you!" Twilight galloped over at Midnight. Midnight shook her head, seeing how pitiful Twilight looked in a weakened state. As if it were a casual thing, Midnight unleashed a barrier of magic that had expanded, blowing Twilight Sparkle back. Twilight was forced away from Midnight, unable to approach her corrupted counterpart from another world, tumbling on the rock-hard and jagged grounds of the badlands.

"But I can't leave you out here in case someone finds you..." Midnight rubbed her chin, approaching Twilight who was on the floor, injured even more. "I have a lot of work to do in this magic-filled world. For now, I need to do something about you."

And so it began. The day that Midnight won and the day that the Twilight Sparkle of Equestria had lost. Midnight Sparkle took advantage of this golden opportunity in every way she could. Especially posing as this world's Twilight. This was one of Twilight's fears come true. But she expected it with a changeling. Not from herself.

With Midnight Sparkle now becoming this world's one and only Twilight Sparkle, she lived Twilight's life. From being Celestia's student, the Princess of Friendship and a resident of Ponyville. And soon, the idea of becoming an empress after learning of royalty in this world came to mind.

With the magic she gathered from the parallel world and Twilight herself, she rose to power far greater than any alicorn had ever reached. It was that rise to power that Midnight adored and she certainly had no intention of stopping there for years to come.

Universe 6. Equestria. Twilight's home. Afternoon.

"After that, years later when I finally managed to break free, I rushed to Canterlot as soon as I could." Twilight continued speaking to her friends. "But when I got there...I found out that it was now an empire run by her. I couldn't do anything. It was just me only my lonesome against probably billions. And well...that's it." She ended her story as everything had been revealed. "She took everything from me. It's...It's not fair."

Thinking about the story made Twilight tear up. So much of her life had been robbed of her. More so than her friends. Rarity brought over a handkerchief to wipe Twilight's ears away. "Oh, darling..."

"But...I'm somewhat happy. After I learned she had been stopped, I gained some hope back in me." Twilight smiled. "I'm glad for that."

"We're glad you're back. But it's also our fault for not seeing through her," said Fluttershy. "She did feel different from you those past years."

"She was still me at the end of the day." Twilight closed her eyes. "And to be honest...I think the old her is still somewhere there."

"I beg your pardon?" Rarity raised an eyebrow.

"It's the magic that corrupted her. I tried helping her but it was too late. If there is any part of the Twilight Sparkle that existed before unleashing all of that magic on herself remaining, I believe it can be brought out."

"Are you crazy?!" Rainbow Dash exclaimed. "After all she did!?"
