The Staff of Sir Aaron

Author's Note:

Most of this chapter is one big homage to Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.

Kanto Region. The Rota Kingdom. Day.

A kingdom located in northern Kanto and considered a legendary place. A place where the most famous and powerful Aura Guardian was born in. Sir Aaron.

In ancient times and even now in the present day, Rota was and still is an independent kingdom. As a result, the town has a medieval theme still to this day. But it has gone through some improvements over the years. The people who live here even dress like they were still in medieval times. Truly staying true to their roots.

And in Rota, the famous Cameran Palace could be found as it laid north of the town, over a lake, and was connected to the town by a long bridge.

And on that bridge, many people and Pokemon were walking on it, heading for the castle for an annual festival that usually happens every year. The Hero of the Year event. And even that was happening today. Trainers from far and wide have come to partake in that event in hopes of winning and having the chance to be dubbed this year's Guardian of the Aura.

And visiting Rota was none other than, Ash, the Mane 6, Spike, The CMC, Starlight, Goh and Chloe. Some were here for fun while others were here for important matters. Matters that involved Delayed Aura Ataxia or the Universe's Malison as it's known as and a way to permanently eliminate it. A way that Sir Aaron himself found long ago in the past.

"Great of us to come here. We'll get to see the hometown of Sir Aaron. Even though we've just heard a bunch of stories about him." Pinkie Pie spoke.

"Made in time for this year's Hero of the Year event too," Ash replied.

"Pikachu."

"Wait. This kingdom's been here in Kanto and we've never noticed it?" Goh said.

"Well, I don't explore too much so I can't say." Chloe shrugged.

"We're gonna be at a grand ball and watch a tournament!" The CMC bellowed.

"Aren't we just here to know about how that Sir Aaron guy dealt with that Ataxia problem?" Starlight asked.

"Yeah, but having fun is awesome too. It's been a while anyway." Ash responded. "Let's win that contest again and become the Guardian of the Aura like before!"

"PIka-Pikachu!"

"Oh! There are costumes here, right? MIght have to sort them out for our own stature then." Rarity nodded.

"Ash will win that contest, get the knowledge of what Sir Aaron did and we'll take things from there," Twilight explained shortly. "This'll be done in no time."

Cameran Palace dressing room.

Here at the palace dressing room, a plethora of outfits could be found. Each for Humans and Pokemon alike. All sticking to that medieval theme.

"Oohoho!" Rarity, Sweetie Belle and Chloe looked at the dresses here, sliding over.

"I need to shift some of these immediately!" Rarity galloped over.

"I wonder if they still have that outfit here!" Ash dashed off.

"I need ribbons!" Pinkie Pie bounced off.

"I need a cape!" Scootaloo zoomed away to grab herself her own outfit. Everyone else scattered to grab something they would want to wear while Rarity would deal with stylizing some of them to fit ponies. And dragons, of course.

As for Pikachu, he stayed perfectly still. The last time he was here, he had been put in an outfit that we would much rather do without. Being here was bringing back so many memories. Togekiss, who was always along for the ride, stood by Pikachu, bobbing her head up and down as she was listening to a tune she heard the other day.

"Pikachu..."

"Toge..."

"Haha!" In just a few minutes, Ash had already found the Aura Guardian outfit after witnessing it at first glance. "Check it out! Now, this is me, right?!"

"Sure is!" Pinkie Pie slid over as she had also finished up, wearing a dress that suits her style. The rest of her friends were having their outfits stylized by Rarity who was an expert in multi-tasking. Plus, the Leavanny just made it quicker as well.

"Pika-Pika!" Pikachu clapped his hands.

"Togekiss!" While Togekiss clapped her wings. Afterwards, everyone had finished dressing up thanks to Rarity and the 12 Leavanny as they all had outfits that matched their sense of style and everything. From human, pony, dragon and Pokemon.

"Done!" Twilight exclaimed as she tugged on her dress. "This should do perfectly!"

"Pikachu!" Pikachu nodded before he and Togekiss noticed multiple shadows loom over them. "Pika?" When looking up, Pikachu saw that everyone had surrounded him and Togekiss with somewhat nerve-wracking smiles on their faces. Pikachu knew what was coming as he was already petrified. "Pi-Pika...?"

Before he could react in time, most of his friends had cornered him, attacking the Electric Mouse Pokemon and Togekiss at the same time with outfits that fitted their stature.

"Pika!"

"Toge?!"

"There! That looks good, doesn't it?" Fluttershy clapped her hooves together as Pikachu was dressed in a jester outfit while Togekiss was in a wizard outfit.

"Pikachu..." Pikachu sighed as he had yet again fallen for this trap. But, he did secretly like the outfit.

"Togekiss!" But Togekiss didn't seem to mind at all.

"Let's hurry! I'm gonna ace that tournament!" Ash ran ahead of everyone as they were all leaving the dressing room to partake in the festivities.

"Don't push yourself too much, Ash!" Twilight cried out after they all followed him. The main goal here remained the same. Learn about what Sir Aaron had done to overcome Delayed Aura Ataxia and spread it to other Aura users to save their lives.

Cameran Stadium.

Millions of people had gathered in this adjoining spot to watch the tournament take place as trumpets were being blown across the stadium mixed in with crowds cheering. An announcer was ready to do what he does best. Announce the arrival of the kingdom's ruler.

"Presenting her royal majesty! The illustrious ruler of Cameran Palace! Lady Ilene!"

And from the very top of the stadium's seats, the ruler herself had arrived. The Queen of this kingdom known as Lady Ilene. Ancestor to Queen Rin. While also having her trusty Mime Jr by her side at all times.

"Mime!"

Lady Irene placed Mime Jr down before waving to the crowd who cheered for her. And of course, her lady in waiting was always by her side as well. Mime Jr. was mimicking its trainer by following her movements and waving back at the crowd.

"Oh, look at her!" Rarity said whilst in the crowd, gazing at Irene's appearance.

"And now in honour of Sir Aaron, Lucario and their noble deeds, we will begin our annual Pokemon contest!" She declared as she raised her arms, causing the tournament to officially begin.

And begin it did.

With excitement filling the stadium, the first contestant to rush through was Ash alongside Pikachu in their contests. They jumped into the stadium with the sun shining on them as they were ready to have a second go at this contest they took part in many years ago.

Another trainer wearing an outfit rushed out, sending their own Pokemon out first which was a Hakamo-o that roared with courage.

Ash and Pikachu grinned as the Electric Mouse Pokemon jumped off his partner's shoulder before standing in front of him. Ash ordered Pikachu for a thunderbolt as the Electric-Type covered his body in electricity, blasting the Scaly Pokemon with a hyper-fast bolt of 100,000 volts from above. That blast also obliterated Pikachu's costume.

Ash then ordered Pikachu to go for a Quick Attack as Pikachu blitzed forward with lightning speed the moment he descended on the ground, tackling Hakamo-o directly.

Everyone cheered with their hands, paws, hooves, tentacles and whatever limbs everyone else had on them. Lady Irene immediately recognized Ash and Pikachu from the first glance. She stood up tall as she was clapping for them the most, happy to see some old friends again.

Hakamo-o then performed Close Combat by widely throwing its scaly claws at the Electric Mouse Pokemon. Pikachu was able to block it with Iron Tail before using Quick Attack to the move to the side. Pikachu then sweeped Hakamo-o's leg with Iron Tail, causing the Scaly Pokemon to trip before the Electric-Type delivered the finishing blow via an Iron Tail to the face. Right before Hakamo-o could even touch the ground.

Ash had won the first round as Hakamo-o had fainted. He jumped up with joy as Pikachu ran over to him, embracing his best friend with a huge hug.

Afterwards, many battles came next in the tournament. A trainer's Umbreon had gone up against a Lurantis. The Lurantis had used Solar Blade which was immediately charged up due to the summer sun being extremely bright and hot. A giant blade of solar energy came flying down, ready to slash the Dark-Type.

Umbreon had successfully dodged it by leaping into the air before unleashing a Shadow Ball from below, striking Lurantis down. More applauses came through as the battle continued with Umbreon emerging as the victor of it.

Battle after battle came through. A Simipour managed to defeat a Bewear with a highly concentrated Scald to the face, giving Bewear a face burn.

A Bronzong had used Meteor Beam against a Dodrio which had used Tri Attack to counter but Bronzong emerged victorious. A Clefable defeated a Cloyster with the attack Misty Explosion, a gigantc pink dome-shaped explosion of Fairy Magic that was similar to Explosion and Self-Destruct. Clefable took Cloyster out before it could faint, declaring it the winner.

The battles went by with each of them being equally as exciting with fun outcomes. Everyone was enjoying themselves. They did get destructive a lot of the time to the point just the smoke and shockaves were enough to blow the crowd off their seats, especially the CMC. They have fallen over quite a few times.

The final round had come and Ash had made it to the end. He was going up against the trainer that had Umbreon with them as Pikachu entered in front.

Pikachu and the Umbreon had both clashed midair with Iron Tail each, entering a power struggle before separating and landing back on the ground. The Umbreon had then used Double Team, creating hundreds of copies that surrounded the field and Pikachu from all sides.

Ash ordered Pikachu to perform Counter Shield with Thunderbolt. Pikachu got on his back, spinning round rapidly while shooting Thunedrbolt out of his body. The frantic movements of the 100,000 volts had swatted the afterimage clones away in seconds until it revealed the real Umbreon.

The real Umbreon moved in for an Iron Tail to try and get a sneak attack, but Pikachu found the real one, using Quick Attack to the evade. The Moonlight Pokemon then unleashed Dark Pulse from its mouth to engulf Pikachu in darkness. The Electric Mouse countered with Electroweb. He used Electroweb to contain Dark Pulse in the net, preventing it from fully hitting Pikachu.

The web and blast of dark thoughts blew up after cancelling each other out. Through the smoke, Umbreon fired Shadow Ball to throw Pikachu off guard. The Electric Mouse Pokemon had fast instincts however as he immediatly leapt into the air, avoiding Shadow Ball.

Umbreon followed him upwards, ready to attack as it had summoned millions of clones with Double Team that all approached Pikachu in the air. But before the Moonlight Pokemon could properly strike, Pikachu had unleashed Thunderbolt at the right call of Ash's command, blasting Umbreon while they were in the air.

The giant blast of lightning engulfed the Dark-Type and the many clones due to the width of it. Pikachu poured it on, increasing the power from 100,000 to 200,000 volts.

The electricity was so grand it flew out of the stadium and flailed around in the sky. Anyonr could see it from afar. Probably all the way from Pallet Town even.

Afterwards a giant explosion of smoke emerged with Pikachu ending his Thunderbolt attack. Umbreon couldn't take that much as it had fainted.

"Umbreon is unable to battle! Pikachu wins! We have a new Guardian for the year! Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town." The announcer declared.

"Oh yeah!" Ash let out a roar of joy as Pikachu jumped up.

"Pikachu!"

"Ah!" Ilene clapped as it felt nostalgic to see Ash and Pikachu battle again while congratulating them.

"Mime! Mime!"

Ash thanked the Trainer for giving him a good battle, wishing him luck in the future. Pikachu and Umbreon paid respects to each other as well.

"Woohoo! Way to go, Ash!" Pinkie Pie flailed large flags that had Ash's face on them. The Cutie Mark Crusaders, being apart of the Ash Ketchum Fanclub, also did the same but with smaller scale flags.

"That's one down! Twilight grinned. "All that's left is that ball and what we can gather. This is a piece of cake!"

"Espeon!"

"Oh...I could go for some cake right about now..." Pinkie Pie drooled. While everythign was clearing up, Ilene herself personally came down from the highest stand to go and meet with her old friends Ash and Pikachu.

Seeing them here reminded her of Sir Aaron and Lucario. And speaking of Lucario, little did Ilene know that after all these years, Ash has gotten himself a Lucario while also becoming more involved with Aura than he's ever been.

"Ash. Pikachu." Lady Ilene said while carrying her Mime Jr.

"Mime-Mime!"

"Ilene! Long time no see."

"Pikachu!"

"Returning here to take part in the festivities again?"

"Kinda. We're kinda here for something different." Ash adjusted his hat. "It's about Sir Aaron."

"Oh?"

"Mime."

"Can you tell us something about Delayed Aura Ataxia?" Ash asked as his stomach started growling. "And is there already food ready in the ballroom?"

"Delayed Aura Ataxia?" She silently gasped after hearing that before looking to the sky and back to Ash. "Alright. I understand. I can tell you what I know. In the meanwhile, enjoy yourself for as long as you want."

"You got it!"

"Pika!"

Meanwhile. High above the skies in the Kanto Region.

They were approaching. A single ship that belonged to Empress Twilight's universe was making its way to Rota for one purporse. To retrieve Sir Aaron's staff.

And on that ship was Skyblue Shine who had been tasked by the Empress to retrieve it. This ship was on the planet meaning that it hadn't been caught by Pyrestar's spell, making one of the few functioning ships left.

Many soldiers were onboard of the ship, ready to assist Skyblue Shine. As for Skyblue Shine herself, after being given two magic chips, she had the strength of many unicorns at this point, equal to Princess Luna at best.

"We're close. Remember, we are there to retrieve the staff and nothing more." Skyblue Shine spoke to the soldiers around her. "We'll overwhelm the kingdom and castle with what we have. That way, they'll be lost in the confusion and any one of us shall retrieve the staff. Anyone fights back, eliminate them. Simple as that."

"Yes ma'am!"

The ship sped up as it was breaking through the clouds while advancing to the north where Rota was found. In a few hours, an unexpected event will befall upon Rota.

Cameran Palace ballroom. Nightfall.

There, Ash was standing proud with Pikachu on his shoulder as Lady Ilene was holding with her, at this very moment, one of the most important objects in the world.

The Staff of Sir Aaron.

"Look at that..." Twilight spoke silently as she and her friends gawked at the staff. "It looks like Lucario's dreads."

"That's what Sir Aaron used to hold?" Appleajck said. Her attention then turned to the giant painting that had Sir Aaron and Lucario on it. The ponies and the baby dragon all gazed at Sir Aaron and Lucario's painting, seeming him hold the staff triumphantly.

"Ooh...So that's what he looks like." Rarity commented after looking at the painting.

"This is the staff of the guardian that once belonged to the great Sir Aaron." Ilene spoke to Ash but she already knew that Ash knew this. But presentation was always important.

"Ash. You've won yet again after returning here for a second time. Thus, you are the Aura Guardian and the Guardian of the Year." She lent the staff to Ash.

"Thanks." Ash thanked the queen after being lent the staff. With a confident smile, he raised the staff up, showing off his Aura. It still felt the same way it did when he first held it as everyone applauded.

"Pikachu!"

"Now we'll begin the grand ball, honouring Sir Aaron and Lucario and our new guardian. Please enjoy yourselves everyone!" Ilene faced the crowd as the midnight ball could begin.

Ash sat down on the guardian chair while holding onto the staff. Everyone had already scattered to start the ball as music was being played. Lady Ilene herself sat on the throne that was next to Ash, watching the ball while the lady in waiting stood by watching Ash along with Mime Jr.

Ilene then turned to Ash, ready to fully speak to him about Delayed Aura Ataxia.

"If you've asked me about this, Ash...then does that mean you've experienced it too?" Ilene spoke.

"Yeah. A few times. I was even knocked out for a week." Ash nodded. "My friends and I went over to a shrine where the Priestess there told us about how Sir Aaron was the only one who ever overcame it. He even got rid of it, right?"

"He most certainly did." Ilene stood up. "Sir Aaron's discovery of this cure in the past was unfortunately at the wrong time."

"The wrong time?"

"Mime-Mime."

"Ash. Did you get anything?" Twilight teleported over here using her magic, startling the lady in waiting.

"Oh!"

"Sure did." Ash nodded in confirmation.

"Come with me, Ash. Bring your friends along with you too." Ilene had something to show them. Something regarding the time when Sir Aaron found the cure. But according to Queen Ilene, Sir Aaron discovered it at the wrong time from what she was told.

Ash ended up following Ilene with Twilight going along. And with this two on the move, Applejack and the others had to get moving as well since they were apart of the group.

That meant that Pinkie Pie and the Pokemon had to cease devouring the food for the time being, much to their chagrin.

Cameran Throne Room.

"Sir Aaron discovered the cure to the Universe's Malison at the wrong time because at that same time, the war had just broken out across Rota." Ilene instantly explained it to Ash and the others. "Because of this, he was unable to ever spread it to his fellow Aura Guardians across the world. Thus, this curse ended up living on with no one to ever know what was the perfect counter to it."

"Did he at least write it down after discovering how he did it?" Twilight asked.

"He just didn't have the time to do so. He was too focused on protecting the kingdom, moving across the land with Lucario to do his best." Ilene shook her head. "Not even Queen Rin, my ancestor knew what it was."

"Just bad timing, huh...?" Applejack sighed. "That's a real shame."

"But, even if he wasn't able to spread this message across to his fellow Aura Guardians, Queen Rin herself delivered a potential theory. She had already seen Sir Aaron go through various experiences of the Universe's Malison, witnessing him faint more than she could count. Noticeably, his faints seemed to also respond to the staff."

"The staff?" Ash looked at Sir Aaron's staff after hearing about it.

"Whenever Sir Aaron would faint after using a plethora of Aura, hours or even days later, his staff would respond to him. Mostly when he was on the verge of waking up. Sir Aaron had full control over it to the point where even in an unconcsious state, he could still reach it. And Lucario too."

"That's what you did a few days back, Ash." Pinkie looked at Ash. "You just focused really hard in your mind and stuff."

"Wait. What about Lucario?" Starlight questioned.

"While unconcsious, Sir Aaron could still communicate with Lucario with Aura. Both the staff and Lucario performed the same action either way. Because of this and the other times she had witnessed it, Queen Rin theorized that possibly, the staff or Lucario is what caused Sir Aaron to break the curse."

"So then...why haven't other trainers with a Lucario tried the same thing?" Rainbow Dash wondered after putting everything together.

"There was more to it. While the staff and Lucario assisted, Queen Rin also suspected that there was more to it than just that. With someone who had such great Aura such as Sir Aaron, it wasn't easy to overcome such a horrifying curse even with how powerful he was. However, when he did break the curse on the same day as the war, Queen Rin herself noticed a beautiful blue light that shined across the kingdom, covering it. Before she could witness where the light had come from, Sir Aaron had left the resting room to engage in the war."

"So it happened without her seeing it. But the light was super big, right?" Pinkie Pie spoke. "Ash's Aura got really big back at Johto when everyone was chasing him down. Was that the same thing?"

"Not sure since I still fainted." Ash scratched his hair.

"Whatever the case, Queen Rin's theory was something that remained unsolved. All that she had left to go off of was Lucario and the staff."

"Ash has a Lucario. And his Aura pattern is similar to Sir Aaron. Maybe we can try the same thing and confirm it?" Goh suggested.

"You have a Lucario, Ash?" Ilene sat up.

"Oh yeah." Ash took out one of his Poke Balls, before releasing the Aura Pokemon that was inside. "Come out, Lucario."

"Lucario. Lu?" Lucario came out, noticing the scenery around him. This wasn't a scene where he could prepare himself for battle. But noticeably, Lucario looked to the side, spotting the painting of Sir Aaron and his Lucario. "Luca?"

"Pretty great, right?" Ash pointed his thumb at the painting. "That's Sir Aaron and his Lucario. The ones that I mentioned before. And check this out." He also showed the Aura Pokemon the staff.

Lucario narrowed his eyes, going up to the staff as he noticed how the sides resembles his dreads. Curious about it, Lucario could feel the latent Aura coming out of it. It had practically enchanted him. The Aura Pokemon then gently raised his paw, placing it on the staff.

When he did so, Lucario received a slight jolt as a blue spark of Aura came out.

"Lu!" He pulled his arm back, growling at the staff.

"Didn't know it could that..." Ash looked at the staff.

"That staff was made to specifically react to the Lucario species." Ilene went up to Lucario, looking the Aura Pokemon in the eyes. Seeing Ash have a Lucario immediately reminded her of Sir Aaron and his Lucario. If anything, Ilene felt like her ancestor Rin at this point. As if history was somewhat repeating itself.

"Lu?"

"It's wonderful for you to be Ash's trainer, Lucario." Ilene spoke to Aura Pokemon as much like the staff, Lucario became entraced after seeing the Queen. Lady Ilene had put her arms out, granting Lucario a nice warm hug.

And Lucario enjoyed this greatly. It was a nice feeling for sure.

"Well at least we know something new." Goh scratched his hair. "But is that is?"

"Sounds like it." Starlight replied.

"I'm sorry that we don't have all the answers." Ilene shook her head. "I wish I did to be honest."

"Hmm..." That's when Ash got to thinking. He wasn't one to ever give up hope no matter what. And thinking about a new solution had immediately brought back even more nostalgic memories of this place.

Aside from the castle, Lady Ilene, Sir Aaron and his Lucario, the tournament and more, there was one thing Ash greatly remembered during his experience in this kingdom and beyond it.

"Oh!" Ash exclaimed, startling everyone. "The Time Flower!"

"Time Flower?" Twilight and everyone except for Ilene looked at him.

"Oh. Clever thinking, Ash." Ilene nodded in approval as Mime Jr mimicked her nodding.

"Mime, Mime."

"What's a Time Flower?" A curious Rainbow Dash, just as curious as all her friends here asked Ash and Ilene.

"The Time Flower is a crystallized flower that grows in and around the Tree of Beginning. It is unknown if they are actual flowers, or of the same type of living crystal that makes up the Tree of Beginning. It has the ability to record events and play them at a later date as a holographic image with sound, only doing so if it is stimulated by the right Aura." Ilene explained.

"We saw of a few of them during our journey here. We could see what Sir Aaron and Lucario did way back then." Ash turned to his friends. "They're sorta like time capsules. I got to activate one myself."

"Really now?" Rarity's pupils expanded. "That's rather useful actually...but they only sprout at this Tree of Beginning?"

"Yeah uh...where and what's that?" Pinkie Pie asked.

"Come with me and see." Yet again, Ilene was going to show them all something else in this expansive castle. There was certainly a lot to experience here in Rota.

They had all gone out to the balcony where a beautiful view of the stars could be seen. One that was soothing to look at. But aside from the stars, the main attraction was far off in the distance, next to the many mountains that could be seen.

When they all arrived at the balcony, that's where they saw the Tree of Beginning in the distance with parts of it being blocked off by the clouds themselves.

"See that? It may look like a giant tree, but it's actually a rock formation. The Tree of Beginning is actually a living organism made up of crystal that feeds on sunlight." Ilene once more explained everything to them aside from Ash and Pikachu who already knew due to their past experiences here. "Its prolonged and seemingly endless age is why it was given the name Tree of Beginning."

"Oooh..." They all gawked.

"There, the Time Flowers grow the most and can be seen nearby. Along with other rarities such as Mew." Ilene further explained.

"Oh, like my Mew?" Pinkie Pie replied as all of a sudden, out of her playful mane, aside from Spinda. Mew had appeared after hearing his name.

"Mew?"

"Oh!" Ilene, the lady in waiting and Mime Jr both gasped after witnessing the New Species Pokemon emerge from Pinkie's mane. "Mew?!"

"Mew-Mew?!"

"This all feels too familiar at the moment actually." Lady Ilene chuckled. "But yes. That's where you can find the Time Flowers. However, they only show the previous event of a certain location depending on where the flowers are. Time Flowers haven't managed to grow here in Cameran Palace."

"Can't we bring one over to see if it works?" Starlight asked.

"If we were to bring a Time Flower over here to the palace then theoritically, yes. They are fairly easy to pick up after-"

Just then, as Lady Ilene was speaking to Ash and everyone, a loud, hard and ground-shattering explosion had flown through the castle, causing everyone's balance to be thrown off guard.

Immediate sounds of people screaming could be heard as the dancing had been interrupted along with the peace. Smoke could even be seen emerging from the side of the palace. The screams also sounded like they were coming from the other buildings as well.

"What was that?!" Lady Ilene gasped before one of the guards rushed over here a fast as they could for an important revalation.

"Lady Ilene! We have a problem! We're being attacked!" The guard exclaimed as he wa breathing in rapidly.

It was indeed true. Skyblue Shine and her forces had just arrived. Right at nightfall. The soldiers were the ones who had caused that massive ruckus with their equipment, leaving a large hole in the walls of the castle, one that they could walk through.

They were here for one thing. The Staff of Sir Aaron and nothing more. And they were determined to achieve it as they started moving around the palace. They would even decide to as the people of the palace questions. By tying them all up and restraining them of course.

"Where is the staff?" Skyblue Shine asked one of the chained up people. The people of the palace 100% knew about where the staff was and who exactly had it. However, for their loyalty towards Queen Ilene, they refused to say anything. And Skyblue Shine could see it in their eyes. "Of course you won't say anything..." She sighed.
