Ink-blotted Terror

Equestria. Ponyville. Nightfall.

The attack of the Dread League started with the Memory Demon. A demon that recently encountered Ash and Pikachu back in the Human World. Back with a vengeance and using half of Mayor Mare's body, it placed Ash and his friends in a tough position.

Sweetie Belle and Lyra Heartstrings were both trapped in spheres of ink. Both these spheres had the capability to combust and unfortunately, the demon only promised to set one of them free while the other would be swallowed up by the explosion. No one wanted either to happen but only one of them could be freed.

"Hurry it up!" The Memory Demon yelled. "No funny movements but funny movements would be the best way to set it off if you get physical with either one of them. So go ahead, actually."

"Sweetie Belle's Pokemon will be caught up in the explosion too..." Twilight realized that Sweetie Belle's Poke Balls were on her. It wasn't just two lives at stake here. The same went for Lyra as she had Pokemon of her own." So does Lyra."

"You're making it harder than it needs to be!" Applejack rustled her mane. "Maybe if we try having Gengar and Golett-"

"Phase through?" The Memory Demon finished Applejack's sentence, already knowing what she was going to suggest. "I know your Pokemon well thanks to the Mayor. As Mayor, it's always important to know your citizens and those close to you, after all. So what else is there to do next?"

"Don't listen to it! You guys can't hesitate!" Sweetie Belle cried out.

"Hesitate! Hesitate!" Lyra protested. "Don't get too rash here! But if you're gonna do something...please make it quick here!"

For something so simple, it was stressful. The Memory Demon knew too much about them and every play they could potentially make. The risks were staggeringly high because of this. Bayleef was still the ace in the hole but with the Memory Demon knowing about her special ability, the time to use it was just as pressurizing.

What's worse was that the demon created Mayor Mare clones out of ink that was blotted on the ground. Each of these clones surrounded Ash and his friends, eyeing them down. These clones would also laugh at them, knowing how the pressure was getting to them.

"I see you rustling in there, Hoopa..." The Memory Demon would eye down Ash's bag, seeing it shake. Hoopa, Meloetta and Victini were hitching a ride in it as always. Unfortunately for them, Mayor Mare had met these three Mythicals, knowing what they were capable of. "Even your ring won't work."

"Hoopa hates to admit it..." Hoopa opened Ash's bag up. "But Hoopa can't risk it. Hoopa can't do anything about this." Indeed. While Hoopa's ring was powerful, it did require his hand to grab what he needed. And even if he didn't grab what he needed, the ring would drop them off, only setting the spheres off in the process. Physical contact was just too much of a factor.

"Come on! Pick!" The clones simultaneously said along with the Memory Demon. "Otherwise, that's way more ponies and people being added into these spheres. And personally, I want to do that after I take their memories."

Manipulating small blots of ink, the clones would splatter Ash and the others with these leftovers. By landing on their bodies, Ash and his friends took mini explosions around their bodies from all their stalling. They all groaned or screamed in response to these miniature explosions around them. Some were more visibly harmed than others.

Ash kneeled before gazing up at the Memory Demon, who was lazily sitting on the claw that it created, knowing the advantage it made for itself.

"I don't have to do much! This is the best!" The demon laughed as most of them were down on the ground from these mini-explosions. The Pokemon resisted but some weren't as durable as their partners.

"I could try and have Ninetales absorb the explosions with Flash Fire...but I need a window of time to make that happen. If we even think of sending a Pokemon out, that demon will set the spheres off. Bayleef can't risk doing anything with her leaf too. It might not be fast enough." Twilight thought to herself, trying to figure out what options there were. "Pheromosa's the fastest one here, but she's not even out either. And she's even at a disadvantage because of how physical she gets. We need to find something that's fast and efficient. But what?"

"Get on with it." Chiming in on this debacle was none other than King Sombra. He would show up in his shadow form, overhearing everything involving this mess. "This is taking too long. Unless you want to feel some of this."

"Sombra?" said Ash upon seeing Sombra's arrival.

"If you ask me...I say the answer is obvious. It should've been from the very beginning." The former ruler of the Crystal Empire closed his eyes as he already decided who should be chosen. "Get rid of the green one. Now."

"What!?" Lyra gasped as Sombra chose her to suffer in the explosion.

"Sombra! You can't just-" Twilight was ready to protest Sombra's decision, especially with how he disrespected Lyra.

"Why are you thinking hard about this?" But before Twilight could continue, Sombra cut her off, eyeing down a petrified Lyra. "This one is insignificant. She's not that important at all. While the little one is at least friends with Phione. The one who can construct that stairway of yours. The one who has value should always be the obvious choice. Anyone else is expendable. So get rid of the extra."

"E-Extra...?" Lyra winced as she took that to heart.

"How could you say something like that?!" Rarity clamoured as her mane even rose up from the sheer power behind her voice. "She may be my sister but Lyra is also a friend!"

"Funny. You don't seem to be around her much often. And though she is your friend, she's useless. Unless, of course, you can still work with Phione without needing the little girl at all, then be my guest. After all, there are no other Pokemon on their teams that can be of as use as the blue one." The things Sombra spouted were outlandish. Not only would he expend someone else in exchange for power, but if it came down to it, he would expend them both while still gaining power. But for Sombra, this wasn't outlandish at all. He's used to it by now.

"There has to be a way though! Right?" Fluttershy asked.

"Maybe there is. But if not...then you know what you need to do. Get rid of the undesirables and then proceed to claim victory. After all, by now, you should be used to these dirty tactics. Granted, I never got the chance to use them and I doubt I'll ever get that chance again, but this one demon, especially one that you've had a run-in with prior to this, shouldn't be that much of an issue. It's pathetic."

"Pathetic?" The Memory Demon repeated, taking offence to that. "Hey!"

"Clearly, you're far too fragile to do anything on your own. Hiding behind a cube, and clones, knowing that one attack from either of these Pokemon will be your end. From afar, of course. Using these two as a means to save your blotted skin is all you're good for, even if you have the power to gain memories or possess others."

"Fragile?! I may be ink but I'm not fragile! I had to endure centuries within that box. The kinds of demons in there would've crushed me long ago. Is that fragile to you?"

"Of course it is. Because you hid from them." Sombra smirked. "Every last one of them at the back of the underworld."

"How did you know...?" The Memory Demon pulled back.

"You're not the only one cursed with knowledge. I know my fair share of demons from that box. Alas, I could never use them. And I know you're the most cowardly of them all. In the past, you would hide behind the vessels of others no matter what, using everything you know. History repeats itself even now. But to be honest...I somewhat respect it. Somewhat. If you weren't so cowardly."

"Shut up! If I wanted to, once I find that right body and memory to take, I won't be so fragile! Argue against that, Sombra!" The Memory Demon roared back.

"Hmph. If that happens...then sure. I wouldn't be able to say much. But back on topic...don't you see the problem with taking one of these two out?"

"The problem? What could be the problem?"

"Clearly, you don't know everything. That mayor's knowledge only goes so far. I wouldn't mind if you destroy one of them but know this...one of these ponies is harbouring an intense level of anger. That anger can turn into magic and unleash a ferocious form that will certainly overpower you and anyone here, becoming a massive threat to all those who oppose the entity."

"You're talking about...Sorrowful Rage Magic!" The Demon and Ash's group would collectively say. They knew what Sombra was referring to. Hearing that name struck fear into the Memory Demon. It was strange to see a demon of all creatures being fearful of that one magic. That one magic seemed to have some recognition judging by the reaction. It wasn't just Mayor Mare's memory being used.

"Hah! That'd be the case if Princess Luna was here. But she's not, so hah." The demon laughed.

"Who said I was referring to Luna?" But Sombra referred to another pony. The only other pony that possessed this terrifying magic. Only he knew.

"Who?" Unfortunately for the Memory Demon, it wasn't aware of the second user. Mainly because the second Sorrowful Rage Magic was never publically revealed compared to what Luna unleashed.

"Let's find out. Do it. Set off the explosion." Sombra encouraged. "I'll be the majority in this if you don't mind."

"Don't do it!" Applejack shook her head violently as everyone else aside from Ash, protested against this. Twilight was noticeably quiet as she knew that Sombra was referring to her. But was it in a good light?

"Do it." But Sombra insisted that the demon go through with this, no matter how hard the others would argue. "Take the right one out at once. You know you want to. But you will have to feel the wrath of whoever unleashes the magic. And for your sake, I hope your blotted body can flow away in time. I look forward to seeing your decision.

"Please! I don't wanna go!" Sweetie Belle cried.

"Uh..." Now, the Memory Demon had to choose as well. Taking out Sweetie Belle could unlock that Sorrowful Rage Magic and the demon immediately thought that Rarity was wielding it. But taking out Lyra could also spark something.

"Fine. If you won't...I'll choose." Just then, surprising everyone, Sombra went towards one of the spheres. He used his shadowy form to race straight towards Lyra's sphere. The Memory Demon stopped what it was doing as Sombra was about to do all the work for it instead.

Right then and there, Sombra would smash his head against the ink sphere, setting it off as intended. The decision had been made. Lyra would be taken. "Great choice!" The Memory Demon needed up agreeing with Sombra's decision, despite also being terrified of what was to come. The clones of the Memory Demon certainly wouldn't want to be caught up in the explosion as they instantly vanished, returning as ink blots on the ground.

"Superpower!"

"Braviary!" Arriving at the Speed of Sound was Braviary. Not just a Braviary, but Rainbow-Braviary. A high-speed talon came flying in with tons of Infinity Energy as it reached the ink-blotted side of the Memory Demon's face. Although physical attacks were ineffective, the sheer force of the velocity and the sonic boom that came from it blew away the other half of Mayor Mare's ink body and the claws that held the Memory Demon.

It found itself being pushed off the claws, falling off as at the same time, the spheres would dissipate. In reality, it was only Sombra's shadow that reached the bubble. His head was only one inch away. Thanks to the shadows being similar to the air itself, the spheres were not set off.

Thanks to Rainbow Dash's interference, the Memory Demon's control over the spheres was quickly shut down by Twilight Sparkle's magic. Using her magic, she managed to separate the spheres by splitting them. With no one interrupting her, this could be done freely. Lyra took a deep breath before slumping onto the ground.

"That was close...Thank Celestia..."

"Sweetie Belle! Lyra! Oh, you're both still in one piece!" Rarity ran over, hugging her little sister who was absolutely mortified by this.

"R-Rainbow Dash...She wasn't here before!" The Memory Demon said before quickly using a platform to catch itself once more by using leftover ink. But thanks to that Superpower, the other half was drooping violently, making a mess everywhere while trying to recover.

"Great work, Sombra. A bit too close for comfort though." Ash said.

"I like to make things dramatic. I could've gone to drama school had I not been robbed of my childhood." Sombra boasted before putting on a cunning smirk. Honestly. Even if the options are critical, with enough time, something will come crashing in. Such as that pony and her eagle."

"You didn't want me to blow up at all, did you?" Sweetie Belle looked over. "Thanks, Sombra..."

"That was your plan from the start. Your shadows wouldn't have done a thing to the ink." Twilight added.

"It was. As if I'd let a coward claim victory in any way, shape or form. Even still, there were other options aside from that grass dinosaurs of yours. It would've been up to you to find out who. But don't get the wrong idea. If a similar predicament comes up, you will sort it out on your own. I won't help you at all."

"Gee, thanks, I guess?" Twilight responded. "You had us worried there though. Especially with how quiet you were Ash. Nice save, by the way, Rainbow Dash!"

"I saw the explosions back up at Cloudsdale," said Rainbow Dash as she descended with Braviary. "But I didn't think it'd be ink that did all of this. Are you guys okay?"

"We're fine. It's not over yet though." Ash adjusted his hat, knowing that the Memory Demon had more to give. So as long as the ink remained, there was a massive resource that could go on forever.

"Bummer...that didn't free her." Rainbow Dash growled as the ink regenerated itself, returning half of Mayor Mare's original shape. It was as if nothing happened. Nothing at all.

"Yeesh! That was a close one." The Memory Demon said, seemingly unbothered by how it was tricked as it laughed maniacally. "But...I'm pretty annoyed by how you got me, Sombra!" But in reality, it was aggravated by Sombra's trick. "You ruined a great moment for me!"

"Hmph. You don't know everything about me, unfortunately. After all, I refuse to walk around Ponyville at all and sometimes Canterlot. Anywhere else will do. The mayor doesn't even consider me a citizen due to who I truly am."

"Fine...you got me there. But. If you think that was my best trick, think again! I can still do so much! How's this for cowardly, Sombra?!" Just then, the ink blots around Braviary's talons went off.

Since he kicked the Memory Demon, ink was lathered around his talons and even some of his wings. Unbeknownst to Braviary, these were bombs. And unfortunately for Rainbow Dash, since she was still using the Harmony Phenomenon to sync with Braviary, once the explosions set off, it wouldn't just be Braviary who felt them.

"B-Brav!"

"Gaaah!" Rainbow Dash felt the same pain as Braviary but to a less staggering degree. Both of them cried out before falling out of the sky. Ash quickly caught Rainbow Dash while Sceptile caught Braviary. Rainbow-Braviary's transformation would soon be dropped upon taking these outbursts.

"And this!" To prove a point, the Memory Demon went a step further, using more of its latent abilities that it never got the chance to use. By using more of the leftover ink, it then formed a sea of destructive ink that would gather together to form this violent mass of black liquids.

Soon, a tidal wave of ink came flying in. The buildings were caught up in this destructive wave as many innocents who tried to distance themselves from the potential explosion were unfortunately caught up in this. This turbulent ink wave would violently crash through everything that stood in its way. Various homes would suffer because of this

Twilight would put up a magical shield around her friends right as the wave came rapidly towards them all. However, the second her barrier met with the wave, cracks were already beginning to form. The destructive power of this ink wave was not to be ignored. Not at all.

The wave would continue growing, catching more and more innocents along the way as they all took a turbulent and unpleasant ride. Twilight's shield would even be ripped out of the ground, becoming part of this ride.

"If it keeps going, my home'll get caught up in this!" Applejack growled before bumping her head on the barrier from these chaotic movements. The tidal wave was aiming to go after all of Ponyville. Sweet Apple Acres and the Pokemon House were involved as well.

"My home...Pallet Town!" Ash soon noticed how the gateway to Pallet Town could be caught up in this ink wave too.

"Hmph. It can use whatever it wishes. It's still fragile." Sombra scoffed, still growing unimpressed of the Memory Demon's power. "Hurry up and break free already. You have the means to do so."

"Right! I know that!" Twilight would use her Rift Magic to solve this. She turned her barrier into something else other than a barrier. By inverting it, she managed to create a form of suction from the magical barrier. But only from the front. This suction of energy would suck up the waves that came this way, sending them to an unknown space within the open hole of this barrier. But the barrier's open hole wasn't where Twilight and her friends were currently situated at. It was somewhere else as seen by the black void in the front.

Twilight would then shoot the ink right back at the ink demon by unleashing all the ink she suctioned up. The Memory Demon would duck for cover, attempting to avoid its own ink. But that failed miserably. Twilight manipulated the ink by redirecting it. Thinking that it managed to evade its own ink, the Memory Demon would be struck from above. By being struck by its own ink, the tidal wave would come to an end due to the demon losing control over it thanks to Twilight's interference.

"Nice hit, Twilight!" Spike cheered.

"Not quite!" But not even a minute later, right after being struck down, the voice of the Memory Demon came back as it emerged behind Twilight Sparkle and her friends. They would all soon turn to find out that the Memory Demon slipped through the attack by simply becoming one with it. Attacking it with ink was just as pointless since that was it's main element. Once it emerged, it used the ink to create more doubles. "That was close though. Too many close calls to call for."

"I wish we could just get rid of that ink already." Fluttershy shuddered. "What beats ink?!"

"I don't know! It's not a Pokemon Type or anything!" Rainbow Dash shook her head.

"The only thing we can do is keep attacking that part of Mayor Mare withuot hurting her." Ash answered. "But we don't how to get it away from her. One half of Mayor Mares still her but she's not saying anything. The rest of it is all the demon's doing. And since there are 14 more we gotta deal with, this night won't be easy. Or the next night."

"Same to you. I wouldn't expect anything less from your friend group. Though they may not be their counterparts, they're just as difficult to take down." The Memory Demon replied. Both of them were trouble for each other. Though, one was considerably tougher and harder to reach.

"Are Apple Bloom and Scootaloo anywhere near here?" Rarity asked. Since Sweetie Belle had been saved, she was hoping that her closest friends were just as safe.

"Apple Bloom's back home. Scootaloo went over to Pallet Town for a bit." Sweetie Belle answered. "It's gonna be weird when they come back here."

"Hopefully, they don't get caught up in what we experienced." Lyra sighed. "But can someone figure out how to stop this ink demon?"

"We already know how. We just have to hit it hard!" Ash had a simple-minded solution. "From afar though. But that's not gonna be an issue at all."

"The only way we can save Mayor Mare is by getting rid of that one half. So our attacks have to be extremely precise, or else we'll harm her too." Twilight explained.

"I don't like the sound of that..." The Memory Demon backed up as it could see the passion in their eyes. The more fired up they got, the better they could perform. The memories of Mayor Mare made that clear. "If I don't do something, they'll keep finding ways to best me. I need to outdo them before they outdo me...I suppose I can do this. I'll make a contract!"

"Contract?" They all repeated.

"I admit it! You're all difficult to get through! But that won't stop me from trying everything in the book! As one of the 100 Demons, I can make a contract with the head demon even when I'm out of the box. " The Memory Demon raised Mayor Mare's hoof as more of its power was revealed.

Or rather, something that any demon could do. Making a contract. By using its magical power, a single black wisp was shot into the sky. This wisp would then expand before summoning a giant contract. The demon wasn't joking when it mentioned one. It was truly a physical contract for everyone to see.

"I'm making a Dark Contract straight through the gates of the underworld and I can request some assistance!" The Memory Demon laughed as the strange words on the contract would flash violet colours. Then, red lightning crashed out of the contract before striking down the Memory Demon.

The skies would also receive this red lightning as a violent wind kicked up. The Memory Demon along with the true half of Mayor Mare would morph. The ink would sharpen up before creating a second head. A second head of Mayor Mare appeared from the side of the Memory Demon along with a second hoof. The dual bodies would end up twisting violently as another hoof was trying to emerge.

"W-What is this...?!" Rarity was disgusted by what she was witnessing. The force f this transforming also expanded the ink. The ink blots on the ground would grow immediately, also growing heads of Mayor Mare. But each of these blots would have multiple heads instead of just a consistent singular one. These heads would bash through buildings, leaving visible holes in them while also contaminating the grass with their darkness.

"I know about this." Sombra narrowed his eyes. "This only proves my point. When a demon feels that they're in too much trouble, at times, they'll make a contract. The easy way out."

"It's an ugly transformation but it helps to enhance our performances as demons. Until now, we haven't been able to make contracts, but thanks to Opal Vivacity, that can all change! Once it's done, your time is up!"

"As if we'd let you finish! Go, Pikachu! Electroweb!"

"Pika-Pika-Pika! Chu-Pi!" Pikachu would interrupt this transformation. He created an electric orb around his tail, flinging it. This orb would then turn into a web, instantly grabbing the Memory Demon's face. The web was adjusted to even grab the other parts of its body. Mayor Mare was exempt.

"No use!" All the clones equally said as the main demon would shrugg of the web by having the ink consume it all. It was still transforming as more body parts were starting to emerge.

"Bayleef. I'm gonna need you to get close with me." Twilight requested. "Your leaf can help us change things up. Victini. You'll be there for the extra boost. My Rift Magic's erratic enough to try something wild."

"We'll make a clear path for you." Ah reassured. "Pikachu, Thunderbolt!"

"Castform! Weather Ball!"

"Pika...Chuuu!" Indeed they would. Pikachu and Castform would go after these horrific clones that would swarm towards them. The bolts electrocuted the clones while the Weather Ball would leave holes in them. Twilight, Victini and Bayleef were free to move onwards with their friends giving them a pathway.

"Come on...faster!" The demon yelled as it was waiting for the transformation to finish up. Alas, thanks to the interference of Ash and the others, the blots of ink which were connected to the transformation were being taken out, slowing things down.

"Frenzy Plant, Sceptile!"

"Energy ball, Leavanny!"

"Audi! Hyper Beam!"

"Audi...No!" The attacks would only grow in numbers. Hyper Beam, Frenzy Plant and Energy Ball came rushing in, blowing away the swarms of clones and delaying the transformation. Hyper Beam was the most effective, covering a wider range overall. Some of the clones would sway away from the attacks, going straight for the trainers instead.

"Espeon!" Even without Twilight, Espeon could do something. She used Dazzling Gleam to cover a wider range as well, purging the clones with rainbow rays. Frenzy Plant would get ahead of the other attacks, going straight for the Memory Demon.

But instead of attacking the ink, it would grab Mayor Mare's real body. "Hang on a minute!" The Memory Demon gasped. "You're going to try and hurt her?!"

"Not one bit! I'm just giving Twilight here a better chance to pull her out. Go, Twilight!" Applejack encouraged as Twilight would reach the Memory Demon thanks to the pathway her friends made.

"Gotcha!" Twilight would use her Rift Magic, overlaying the ink with an aura of cosmic energy. The Memory Demon along with its extra head, found itself being frozen in place. Not only that, but Frenzy Plant was keeping the real side of Mayor Mare still.

But the demon had too much tenacity. It made an extra head from the ground below. This head elongated, stretching all the way to try and reach Twilight. As for everyone else, they already had ink blots on them, resulting in those bombs being set off. Audino and the others would take more explosive punishment yet again but it was worth it to try and guarantee Twilight's success.

"Hoopa won't let you!" But seeing the head rush in, Hoopa would use his ring to intercept this attack. The Mischief Pokemon would throw the ring in the direction of the head, using it as a way to juke it out. The head would fly through the ring, going elsewhere instead of Twilight, Bayleef and Victini. The head only ended up crashing into another one of its fellow ink demons as a counterattack.

"Bay...!" Working with Twilight, Bayleef dropped a leaf onto the Memory Demon while Victini grabbed them both by their tails. Once they all united, Bayleef's fate-changing leaf kicked in, responding to whatever Twilight had in mind. Victini's only there to guarantee that they could have enough strength.

"Gh...! Gaaahaa!" The demon groaned as it was actually starting to feel some pain. Twilight's will to try and separate Mayor Mare was mainly helped by these two Pokemon. With sheer force, she ripped out the true half of Mayor Mare from the Memory Demon. It was revealed that the demon was nothing but a husk as Mayor Mare's entire body was revealed. The roots from Frenzy Plant would soon pull her away.

"It doesn't matter though!" The demon's voice rapidly changed into something else that was not like Mayor Mare's voice at all. "I still have my original body!"

Though they freed Mayor Mare, the demon wasn't defeated yet. They only got rid of its husk. And upon freeing Mayor Mare, at the same time, the demon could still fight back instantly. "You fools! If I can't transform...then I'll use the contract for this!"

"!" Twilight then noticed how the demon started flashing. This only meant one thing. An explosion was due And this time, it was rough. This was less like a transformation and more like a special move. Twilight, Bayleef and Victini were caught up in this combustion. This was the risk they took as the red lightning flared out right afterwards.

"Twilight! Bayleef! Victini!" Ash cried out their names after witnessing the explosion. Three great friends were caught up in what seemed to be the most vicious one from the Memory Demon thus far as their eyes all lit up with the view of darkness.

As the journey continues.
