Project Mew

Equestria. Ponyville.Day.

"Yes! Finally!" Booming from the Pokemon House was the excited voice of Goh. He held his Rotomphone, gazing at it with a jolly expression.

"Finally what? What happened?" Starlight slid over.

"I got an Email from Project Mew!"

"Oh yeah! That thing you applied for!" Starlight recalled Project Mew and how Gary convinced Goh to enter it in a rather mocking and teasing way. "The team that's doing some serious research about Mew?"

"Mhm! I got a recommendation from Professor Oak! So the next step is to become a member! It says here that I've gotta go to their research facility at the foot of Mt Coronet in Sinnoh. Pretty specific but...okay."

"Should we tell Ash and the others about this?" Starlight asked.

"Ash and everyone are busy elsewhere. But are you saying you wanna come along, Starlight?"

"Of course! I'll cheer you on as your friend." Starlight proudly uttered and stood. "We go on adventures as a duo after all, don't we? Not many anyway. It's mostly just big groups a lot of the time."

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Goh cried out as he and Starlight were off to Sinnoh for Project Mew. A Mew-focused task that was right up his alley.

Sinnoh Region. Foothills of Mt Coronet. Afternoon.

At the request of Project Mew, Goh and Starlight had arrived at the foothills of Mt Coronet in the Sinnoh Region. They came across the Research Facility which sat there at the foot.

And up ahead, when they had shown up, two individuals could be spotted there. One was familiar and the other was new. They were talking to each other as Gary could be spotted.

"Oh! Gary?!" Starlight cried out as Gary had just finished his conversation with this girl, with both of them going their separate ways. Soon, Gary would be the one to notice Goh and Starlight.

"Well, well. I wondered who'd show up." Gary smirked. "It's Starlight and...uhh..." Gary took a moment to try and remember Goh's name was Starlight waved at him.

"It's Goh! How do you remember Starlight's name and not mine?" Goh uttered, already feeling annoyed.

"Right, right. Heh." Gary chuckled. "I hear you're gonna take the test."

"That's why I'm here."

"Hey, even a total loser could take the test. All you need is the Professor's recommendation, right?" The grandson of Professor Oak shrugged, playing it off as something so light. An agitated Goh growled as Starlight could already feel the powerful tension in the air. "But this is where the rubber meets the road."

"And what does that mean?" Goh questioned.

"This won't be a cakewalk. Project Mew is serious business. So just give it your best shot." Gary walked by, giving off his last piece of advice. He left Goh feeling in a bad mood as opposed to the jolly mood he felt earlier today.

"Hrrghh...! That guy gets on my nerves!" Goh roared as Starlight silently chuckled. But that was Gary. He always knew how to get under someone's nerves. No matter who they were. They then approached the facility, ready to face whatever trial would come their way soon.

"Hello!" Goh and Starlight yelled at the front of the facility. "Anyone there?!" Thankfully, the door did open right as they called for someone. And standing at the door was a Mime Jr that had greeted them.

"Mime? Mime-Mime!" After spotting Goh and Starlight, the Psychic-Fairy-Type pranced off instead of approaching the newcomers. It only took Mime Jr. 2 seconds to return, but it didn't come alone.

"Oh, who is it, Mime Jr?" A voice could be heard, straining a bit due to the boxes this man was carrying. The man could barely be seen with all the boxes blocking his upper body

"Excuse me! I got an email that told me I was supposed to come here?" Goh shouted out.

"Oh. Perfect." The man managed to slightly poke his head past the boxes. Goh and Starlight were welcomed inside now that they were made familiar to this man. Mainly Goh, being that he was the one accepted here.

Eventually, when entering the facility, they could see the man at his fullest. But not before helping him out with these heavy boxes. Starlight used her magic to carry the boxes with ease whilst Goh struggled.

"Thanks for your help. Now then...Allow to me introduce myself." The man placed the final box down before entering a room with the duo. "Name's Amaranth. Professor Amaranth."

"I'm the leader of Project Mew. And right now, everything you see before you is Mew-related." Amaranth showed off the entire room which was also a library as well with an abundance of books.

"All of this is research on Mew?" said Starlight.

"Oh yes. But it's not nearly enough. I've looked at each of these at least a dozen times, but I wind up with more questions than answers. But the closest I've gotten so far is learning about one of your friends. You're friends with someone named, Ash, aren't you? Along with another named Pinkie Pie. They know quite a bit about Mew."

"They do. Ash has seen Mew a few times while Pinkie lives with Mew. And I guess another Mew." Goh explained. "That's not enough either?"

"Not at all. Searching for Mew is like getting lost in a labyrinth. But there's also something about it that's bizarre and familiar at the same time. The Mew over at Ponyville is one that I've been trying to keep an eye on, but it doesn't do much."

"Yeah. He doesn't." Starlight nodded. "Mostly he just lounges around with Pinkie Pie and eats a lot. Guess it's not the most active Mew in the world."

"But then I heard that your friend Pinkie Pie had the goal of helping the second Mew find more of them. For a while, we thought the Mew population was done for and only one Mew out there in the world existed. But to find out that more of them are still out there was amazing. We were already dedicated to finding Mew, but now that dedication's sprung up ten-fold to try and find more Mew."

"Just like a Fossil Pokemon?" Goh questioned.

"Exactly. Just like how Fossil Pokemon have been revived so many times by different trainers to the point where you can find some of them out there, we're hoping to do the same for Mew, making it a not-so-common sight but also less rare than it is. Can you imagine it? A world with Mew flying about, seen by many."

"Hmmm..." Goh and Starlight started picturing it. Starlight had already seen what a world like that would be like. She thought back to when she and everyone were within the realm of Delayed Aura Ataxia.

There, within the Fairy Realm, the Gardevoir there reminisced of a time when she was once a Mew before becoming a Ralts and soon the Pokemon she evolved into. Being one of the many Mew, she naturally lived in a world populated by mainly Mew with a few Legendary and Mythical Pokemon roaming around. In the modern-day, a Mew resurgence could perfectly mirror that.

Not only would it be an amazing sight for all to see, but it would also fulfil Holon Mew's and to an extent Pinkie Pie's goal. To reunite Mew with more of her species. And this goal could perfect it.

"Huh. That would be a nice sight, wouldn't it?" Starlight agreed wholeheartedly.

"Glad you think so too. Oh, Danika. Can you take it from here?" Amaranth then looked over at a girl who had appeared without warning. The same girl that was with Gary minutes ago and also possessed the same voice heard on Gary's Rotomphone. Another member of Project Mew.

"Sir." She replied, leaning on the edge of the entrance. "I'm Danika. Nice to meet you two."

After the introductions, Goh and Starlight were faced with a monitor that had soon turned on via Danika's control. She would take things from here, guiding them both. On the screen, images of various locations with Mew being involved in them in the visage of a blur were popping up.

"As you may know by now, Project Mew's primary is to conduct intensive and thorough research on Mew. And the site for that research is on this island. At a place called Table Mountain." Danika showed them the image of a stellar island. "This is a massive rock that began forming 2 billion years ago. It encompasses almost 2,500 square miles. That's a world record. Nearly 11,500 feet above sea level."

"So, where's this island located?" Goh asked.

"Does Mew roam there?" So did Starlight.

"I'll take questions at the end." Danika slightly raised her voice with a strict tone involved.

"Oh." Starlight and Goh pulled back. "She's pretty strict."

"Let's just stay quiet..." Goh replied.

"The project takes place during the week the rainy season changes to the dry season. Then it's back to rain and a thick mist covers everything. Except at this point, searching becomes impossible. So, now do you have any questions?"

"Well...About Mew..." Goh got straight to the point about the Pokemon that mattered in all of this.

"All Mew information is classified. But I guess that doesn't mean much when you have a friend who owns a Mew. Unless you have something new to share as classified information?"

"Sorry. But Pinkie's Mew isn't exactly the best Mew to learn from..." Goh sighed. If only Pinkie Pie's Mew was as active as many Mew researchers were hoping for. He was by no means lazy. Just not exactly the best Mew to research.

"Now then. Regarding your membership application, there are trial missions to be performed. And each and every one must be performed successfully. The missions test your skills as a Pokemon Trainer. Your skill at catching Pokemon is one. They also include giving battle commands alone and in combinations and working with other trainers." As Danika continued, the facility received a sound that made the room shake.

"What was that?" Goh wondered.

"Please refrain from talking." But Danika continued either way, despite the sound and the bump.

"Y-Yes ma'am!" The duo replied swiftly.

"Once you've completed the trial mission, you'll receive a special token on your Rotomphone." Danika then showed the image of the token. Fittingly, it was a silver token that had the symbol of Mew that resembled the infamous cave painting from long ago of those who had seen Mew before. "The who receives the most tokens during the trial period will be admitted to the team. This time, three applications will be admitted. Combined with two previously selected, a total of five will be sent on the search. They're called Chasers."

"Two are already selected? Are you one of them?" Starlight asked.

"Yes. I'm one. There's another. His name is Quillon. And what about you, my little pony? Did you apply for Project Mew too?"

"Oh, uh, nope. I'm just here to cheer Goh on. Am I uh...allowed to come along with him? Ma'am?" Starlight raised her hoof with a squee.

"Teamwork is an important skill. It's also being tested in this trial. I will allow it." And thus, Starlight was free to help Goh in his trial mission.

"Yes!" An elated Starlight bellowed.

"It's time," Danika said as the doors to the facility were opening. It was revealed that this facility was also an entire ship. An air carrier to be exact. This entire time, while they were talking, the facility was moving. That now explained the bump they had felt earlier as the moment the doors below opened up, a chill could be felt.

"We're flying?!" The duo exclaimed.

"We're in a glacial region in the northern section of Mt Coronet. Goh. Your mission is to catch an Alolan Ninetales from this location." Danika gave Goh his first mission.

"An Alolan Ninetales? Don't they come from Mt Lanakila in Alola?" Starlight thought for a moment. "Doesn't that mean it doesn't belong here?" Thie ship had then landed, making another bump.

"Your mission has already begun." Danika walked over. "What happens from here on is yours to decide."

"I'll catch it! No doubt!" Goh excitedly announced, setting his sights on that Alolan Ninetales.

But first, they had to get dressed for such a chilly location. They were given special suits to help them through the cold. They were naturally human-sized, but one that was pony-sized was perfect for Starlight.

"You have a 6-hour time limit. Be sure you're back by that time." Danika ordered.

"Right." They were off, walking through the snow while also trying to get adjusted to these tundra-based suits. Goh and Starlight figured that they would need some more help for this and there was no better option than their Pokemon.

Goh threw the Poke Balls into the air, summoning his Scizor, Aerodactyl, Flygon and Misdreavus to survey the skies. Starlight only had Hatterene as always, but the Silent Pokemon proved to be of help levitating Goh to help him through the air. They moved through steep hills in this glacial region, searching high and low for Alolan Ninetales. They searched everywhere they could, but most of them eventually returned empty-handed and shivering from the cold.

Goh sat down, sighing whilst Hatterene wrapped herself around Starlight to keep her warm. "I never imagined it would be this hard..." said Goh as his Pokemon were freezing from all of this searching. "Return." Goh promptly returned them.

"I wonder where it is?" Starlight added.

"The only one left is Scizor..." Scizor was the last of Goh's Pokemon who hadn't returned. If anything, Scizor was the perfect candidate since it resisted the cold.

"Scizor!" Speaking of which, the cry of Scizor could be heard in the distance, echoing nearby. Scizor was calling for them as that was a good sign to them. Goh stood up as he, Starlight and Hatterene followed the direction of Scizor's cry. Scizor's voice came from below the mountains, leading to the three of them sliding waddling down, only for Starlight to levitate herself whilst carrying Goh. Hatterene soon did the same to herself.

Lo and behold, thanks to Scizor, they had found the Pokemon they needed. Alolan Ninetales. Scizor eyed down the Ice-Fairy-Type who wasn't even facing the Bug-Steel-Type at all. Snow fell gracefully around it as parts of the skies had also been darkened as well.

"There it is! Incredible, Scizor!" Goh congratulated Scizor for finding it.

"It's still a beautiful Pokemon..." Starlight gazed at the sight of Alolan Ninetales. She had already seen one before, but no matter how many times she sees it, Alolan Ninetales was just so captivating to the eye.

"Nine...!" However, this beauty was countered by something more beastly. Ninetales snarled, turning its head to spot Goh and the others. It did not have a pleasant look on its face. Upon seeing them, Ninetales immediately attacked them without a second thought. Ice Beam came flying out, threatening to freeze them all.

"Oh!" Each of them gasped as Goh, Starlight, Scizor and Hatterene jumped out of the way, evading Ice Beam. "What gives?!" Goh cried out. "What's wrong with Ninetales?! Doesn't the dex say that it has a tranquil personality?"

"Ninetales...!" Ninetales growled, planning to attack them once more with no hesitation whatsoever.

"Togepi and Gardevoir taught us otherwise." Starlight gulped as Ninetals growled at them. "But it looks like Ninetales is just angry more than anything!"

"Tales!" Ninetales had used Ice Beam once more while Starlight spoke, interrupting her. Just a bit too late as Starlight pulled herself back with magic.

"Goh! Your Scizor's extra super-effective against an Ice and Fairy-Type like Ninetales! Go for it!"

"Right! Scizor! Use Metal Claw!" Goh decided to confront Ninetales. He was hoping to casually approach it since it was described as a peaceful Pokemon but the circumstances said otherwise.

"Zor! Scizor!" Scizor went on the offensive, covering its claws with a silver light. It delivered a strong swing of its claw, but not exactly fas enough. Ninetales proved to be the swifter Pokemon, easily leaping into the air and evading Metal Claw.

"Ninetales!" Ninetales retaliated by once again using Ice Beam but with immaculate precision. Just as Scizor's Metal Claw had missed, Ice Beam made contact. And immediately once it touched Scizor, the Bug-Steel-Type within seconds had its body frozen on the spot.

"Ah! Scizor!" Goh gasped.

"Ninetales!" After freezing Scizor with ease, Ninetales let out a mighty howl that echoed throughout the glacial region. Following this howl, Alolan Ninetales had summoned a massive blizzard while its cry was ongoing, cracking some ice in the progress.

"S-Scizor, return!" Goh grimaced, returning Scizor while also covering his ears with his shoulders. Hatterene closed her ears along with Starlight as the rage coming from Alolan Ninetales was enough to irritate Hatterene. However, the blizzard was a bit too strong for her to do anything right now.

Afterwards, the full force of the blizzard had been unleashed, covering everything in a horrifically thick white and grey sheet of snow and torrent of mist as the visage of Alolan Ninetales was starting to vanish, along with Goh and Starlight's sight of it and everything else. All they could see was the mist now.

"N-Ninetales is-" Goh tried speaking, only to be cut off by the violent blizzard. Ninetales disappeared into the howling wind as the duo quickly rushed off to find somewhere safe to take shelter.

"T-This is bad, Goh! If this keeps up, we'll be-" But Starlight was also cut off. The wind became strong enough to carry them off the ground. Goh held onto Starlight's hoof with Hatterene holding onto Goh's leg. With their combined might, they were able to stay on the ground, however, they could not stop the blizzard as everything went completely grey for them.

3 hours later. Inside of a cave.

3 hours had passed. Goh and Starlight ended up in a cave that was sheltered away from the snow. Despite all of that, they ended up at a safe place, but it wasn't them who found it. Goh groaned, slowly waking up. And the one who ended up meeting eyes with him first was Starlight.

"Goh. Goh!" Starlight cried out his name as Goh was now fully awake.

"Ugh...S-Starlight?" Goh sat up.

"Thank goodness...Thought we lost you there."

"What happened? W-Where's Ninetales?!" Goh recalled the mission in an instant. "We got caught up by that blizzard,d didn't we?"

"We did. Ninetales got away after whipping it up. But we were saved thankfully. By him." Starlight revealed the one who saved her, Hatterene and Goh, turning to face him. A young man wearing the exact same suits that Goh and Starlight were wearing.

This Trainer had a Weavile next to him as spotted as they were both looking outside of the cave and how the harsh blizzard was still raging on. He wasn't even facing them. Only his Weavile did.

"Why did you two even come here?" He spoke to them. "When the blizzard lets up, go home."

"Huh?" Goh jerked back.

"N-Not exactly the way I envisioned someone helping us responding with..." Starlight uttered.

"I've got an important mission here to catch Ninetales! I can't just go home!" Goh refused.

"You failed." But he replied in a heartbeat the moment Goh's last word kicked in. "You could've been toasted if I hadn't saved you. You would've died in that blizzard and you had no options to save yourself. Your weakness annoys me. Both of you. Your Pokemon too." Already, he showed off a harsh tone.

"Hold on there!" Starlight stood up. "What are you talking about?!" Goh didn't fail yet!

"Hatterene!"

"Failed...You're with Project Mew, aren't you? Are you Quillon?" Goh asked.

"That's a name you don't need to know anymore." This was indeed Quillon. The one Danika brought up. And he wanted them gone immediately. They all stayed silent, waiting for the blizzard to subside. Quillon sat with his arms crossed, not paying any mind to Goh and Starlight.

"Hey...Could I ask one question?" Starlight spoke. "What's an Alolan Ninetales doing here of all places?"

"Pokemon Hunters," Quillon answered. "They captured it, hoping to make a profit. They were forced to make a landing during a returned trip. It escaped around here to get away.

"So that's why it acted up when it saw us," said Goh. "So if we catch it..."

"We'll return it to Mt. Lanakila. Where it belongs." Quillon revealed. Ninetales would be a free Pokemon by then, even if Goh were to catch it. Goh wondered about that for a moment. Goh's new objective is to catch Ninetales so that it can be returned to its home on Mount Lanakila.

Eventually, the blizzard had come to an end. Peace within the glacial region had returned. It was safe to come out now but this would also mean that Quillon expected them to depart from this location and return home.

"As you promised, go home."

"I refuse!" Goh protested. "We aren't going anywhere!"

"What's that?"

"My 6 hours aren't up yet. Besides, Quillon. You're looking for Ninetales, right?"

"Yeah? What about it?"

"I wanna help you get Ninetales back home to Mount Lanakila too!" Goh revealed his newest objective that went beyond just catching Ninetales.

"And how would you begin searching for it? Unless your pony friend has a spell for that."

"Sadly no." Starlight shrugged. "But that would be useful. What do you think Goh?"

"I thought about something. Since it use to live on Mount Lanakila, it'd probably go to someplace similar. And this glacial region has a mountain top, doesn't it? Over there." Goh pointed in the far distance, focusing on a mountain top. Quillon took out his Rotomphone to compare the mountain top to Mount Lanakila.

Surprisingly, the formation of this mountain slightly resembled Mount Lanakila, making it the perfect spot for Ninetales to head towards. "Right. We're heading out." Quillon accepted the help of Goh and Starlight after Goh figured out the best spot to try and find Ninetales. Albeit momentary acceptance.

Peak of the mountain.

They arrived at the peak of the mountain where Ninetales was theorized to be. But that theory was soon confirmed as a torrent of snow was starting to clear up, revealing the Fox Pokemon. Ninetales appeared once more, still keeping that furious face that was filled with scorn.

The snow was being manipulated by it with it swirling around the Ice-Fairy-Type. Ninetales made it disperse right afterwards before snarling at the trio.

"Ninetales...!"

"Looks like it's adapted to its environment here," Quillon observed.

"Ninetales!" Goh cried out. "I want you to help you get back to your home! So please...let me catch you!" Goh already had a Poke Ball out and ready, launching it at Alolan Ninetales.

"Tales!" However, just as Goh threw the Poké Ball at Ninetales to catch it, an Ice Beam from a leaping Ninetales had been unleashed, firing in the general direction of the trio. They moved away from the Ice Beam with parts of the snow being frozen over.

"Cinderace, let's go!" Goh quickly threw his Cinderace into the fray.

"Cinderace!"

"Use Quick Attack!"

"Cin! Cin-Cin!" Cinderace advanced, moving in a zig-zag pattern to strike the Fox Pokemon.

"Nine!" However, the swift Quick Attack had been countered by Ninetales' Dazzling Gleam. A sphere of rainbows covered the Alolan Variant, promptly stopping Cinderace in its tracks with its blinding light.

"C-Cinder?!" Cinderace put its eyes over its head, feeling the intensity of Dazzling Gleam's glow. But it wasn't just there to halt Cinderace. Ninetales expanded the sphere, causing it to hit the Striker Pokemon. "Cinderace!" Cinderace was knocked back, falling over afterwards.

"Use Blaze Kick!"

"Der! Cinderace!" Cinderace recovered right afterwards, lunging at Ninetales with flames sprouting around its feet.

"Ninetales!" Only for Ninetales to use Aurora Veil, summoning a massive veil of energy that resembled the northern lights. it had blocked Blaze Kick from making any contact, forcing Cinderace to back up.

"Break right through using Pyro Ball!"

"Cinder! Cinderace!" Cinderace used some of the rubble on the ground, kicking it a few times before transforming the ruble into a ball of fire. With pure force, it had launched Pyro Ball straight at the Aurora Veil. Pyro Ball had the strength to break through successfully, despite being weakened by the defensive barrier, it still hit Ninetales.

"Now! Poke Ball, go!" Goh found the opportunity to catch Ninetales right after it staggered from Pyro Ball's direct contact. He launched it, making it curve as it looked like the ball would fully connect.

But that was not the case. Interrupting Goh's Poke Ball was an Ice Beam. The chilling beam of ice struck the ball, freezing it. However, it wasn't from Ninetales as it was still staggered. Instead, it came from another force.

"W-What was that?!" Starlight wondered as everyone looked in the direction of the unleashed Ice Beam.

"I didn't expect to meet it here." Quillon immediately recognized which Pokemon did this by staring at a wall of ice. This wall of ice was where the Ice Beam came from as something within it had performed the attack. Seven visible yellow lights could be seen within the ice wall as they belonged to only one Pokemon.

Regice.

"REGICE!" Regice broke through the ice wall, revealing itself to Goh and the others.

"Who is that?!" Starlight and Goh quickly took out their Pokedexes.

"Regice. The Iceberg Pokemon. Regice’s body was made during an ice age. Regice cloaks itself with frigid air of -328 degrees Fahrenheit. Things will freeze solid just by going near this Pokémon. Its icy body is so cold, it will not melt even if it is immersed in magma. It is said to sleep inside glaciers for 7000 years."

"7000 years?! So it's been here from the get-go!" Starlight exclaimed.

"Regice may hold clues to the origins of Pokemon. Mainly with its connection to Regigigas. This is an important Pokemon for Project Mew as well." Quillon revealed.

"Goh! I'll take care of Regice! You handle Ninetales!" Starlight offered to go against Regice while Goh dealt with the Ninetales situation.

"Right! Thanks, Starlight!"

"Regice!"

"Hatterene, use Psycho Cut!"

"Hatter!" Hatterene delivered the first attack, swinging her tentacle claw violently. Out of it came violent tearing blades of Psychic energy.

"Regi! Regice!" Regice promptly retaliated by using Ice Beam, meeting with Hatterene's Psycho Cut. Psycho Cut rapidly bombarded Ice Beam, only for Ice Beam to emerge as the superior power in this instance. Hatterene gasped, barely managing to evade the incoming Ice Beam as she swayed her head.

"Ninetales!" Goh cried out to the Fox Pokemon. "I want to help you! Please. Let me catch you."

"Nine...!" Ninetales refused, showing further hostility towards Goh as veins were starting to show. But Goh approached despite Ninetales' rising temper. "Nine...Tales!" Ninetales howled once more, putting Aurora Veil up as protection from Goh.

However, Goh would choose to try and go through Aurora Veil, placing his hand on it. "Hold on a minute! You need to trust me! Let's go back to Alola! Back to Mount Lanakila! Where your home is!" Goh continued to shout, trying to reach Ninetales.

Alolan Ninetales continued its growling, expecting Goh to do the worst he could. But he didn't. Except, the two of them stared at each other for a bit. Goh's face was full of trust as Ninetales took a moment to pause. It saw that Goh did not make any cruel advancements on it. If anything, Goh took the peaceful approach which was something an Alolan Ninetales was commonly known for. After these seconds of eye contact, Ninetals had calmed down. The Aurora Veil faded away. Goh fell over, getting on all fours before looking up at Ninetales.

"Nine."

"Huh? Y-You'll do it?" Goh looked at the now calm Ninetales.

"Nine!" It certainly would. It now trusted Goh and just wanted to go back home at this point.

"Here goes." Goh pulled out another Poke Ball, gently throwing it. The ball made contact, shrinking Ninetales and beginning the traditional shake.

1...2...3...Gotcha! Alolan Ninetales was caught. Goh could rest easy now. He had succeeded in his mission and would now live up to that promise he made to Alolan Ninetales. Meanwhile, Starlight and Hatterene were not faring well against Regice.

"H-Hatter!" Hatterene had been struck by Ice Punch from Regice. She then received another Ice Punch that had knocked her back.

"Hatterene!" Starlight yelled before catching her partner with magic. Regice had then used Ice Beam, planning to freeze them both. Starlight managed to move back with Hatterene, avoiding the Ice Beam. "Talk about aggressive..."

"Stand back." Quillon suddenly intervened in this battle, putting an end to Starlight's attempt. He would now face Regice, already having a Poke Ball in his hand. "Game on." By launching the Poke Ball, out came his own Pokemon and one that Starlight and Goh would see for the first time.

An Urshifu.

"Urshifu!"

"What's that...?" Starlight whipped out the Pokedex as always.

"Urshifu. The Wushu Pokemon. Single Strike Style. This form of Urshifu is a strong believer in the one-hit KO. Its strategy is to leap in close to foes and land a devastating blow with a hardened fist. Inhabiting the mountains of a distant region, this Pokémon races across sheer cliffs, training its legs and refining its moves."

"Use Wicked Blow!" Quillon ordered as Regice was already charging up a Hyper Beam.

"Ur...Shifu!" Single Strike Style Urshifu flexed its arms, becoming surrounded by a dark purple aura for a moment. It then rushed at the Iceberg Pokemon, interrupting Hyper Beam and punching it with great force. The force was so strong that it ended up launching Regice back into the wall it came from.

"R-Regice!" Regice crashed into the wall as it was dazed by the impact.

"Urshifu. That's enough for now." Quillon halted Urshifu from making another attack. Regice sat there with rocks falling from the impact. "I'll come again, Regice...Wait for me until I do."

"Regice..." Regice was left alone, sitting as it was hard to tell if it fainted or not. Quillon returned Urshifu, immediately walking off.

"We're heading back." He ordered Starlight and Goh. They were done here. Goh completed the main trial after all, so there was n other reason to be here any longer. It was all done.

Project Mew. Research Facility. Late Afternoon.

The late afternoon sun had come. And with that, Starlight and Goh felt the much-needed heat via some coffee after the chilling experience they went through.

"Much better..." Starlight sighed, placing her head on the table. "Warms you right up."

"We've received your Alolan Ninetales." Danika entered the room with Quillon also being there. "It'll be sent right back to its home on Mount Lanakila."

"That's great to hear," said Goh.

"Goh. Starlight. Thanks so much for saving Ninetales." Danika winked, no longer showing her strict side. At least for now. "And there's one more thing I have to tell you. Honestly, the mission you cleared...wasn't even an official mission."

"It wasn't?!" The duo screeched as Starlight dropped her coffee.

"It was a test to see if you could take on the Project Mew missions or not. And since you succeeded, Goh, you're now fully applied to be an official member of Project Mew."

"Oh, this is great news, Goh!" Starlight congratulated him. "This is why Gary said that Project Mew wouldn't be a cakewalk. Good for you, Goh!"

"Thanks, Starlight. I thought it was an official mission...but I'm up for the real ones now!" Goh proudly stood up. "Feels like I've just gotten into the starting line though."

"That's okay!" Starlight chuckled. "Just don't let Gary beat you."

"Goh. I heard you caught Ninetales and succeeded. Good for you." Entering the room was Professor Amaranth."

"Many thanks, Professor!"

"And Quillon. I heard you found Regice, eh?"

"The data's being analyzed as we speak." Quillon turned away.

"Hm. Always thinking ahead. No wonder you're the chaser with the highest tokens." Amaranth revealed Quillons standing in all of Project Mew.

"So...Is Regice important to the origins of Pokemon?" Goh asked. "Quillon said so."

"It should be, Goh." Starlight replied. "We can head back to Twilight's lab and I can show you. There's some brief history about the Pokemon World that's connected to Regice."

"You two do that. And it does make me happy that many, especially in the other world are curious about where Pokemon came from. What they truly are and etc." Amaranth spoke. "Truly our world's greatest mystery. And the one said to hold the DNA and the title of the Ancestor of all Pokemon. Mew. That's why I want Mew thoroughly researched. How about you head home and ask that Mew from Pinkie Pie a few things. Share it with us, okay?"

"Okay! We'll do it!" Goh and Starlight promised, giving collective nods.
