Induction Day. Handling Types

Author's Note:

With the introduction of the Pokemon School and a ton of Gym Leaders returning, this is where I really put a ton of focus in the relationship of characters and their Pokemon.

"It's showtime."

Lucien had spoken up, standing atop a cloud, rubbing his hand together.

"Oh, we're finally going to do something else?" Sienna asked her fellow Rift creation.

"Oh, you know. I've got a few ideas boiling up. We'll start small with this." He created a spark of energy in his hand. "And then, we'll go from there."

"Ugh..." Sienna groaned. "Don't tell me we have to play the long game...?"

"Trust me on this Sienna. This is gonna be good." Lucien put the first part of his plan into motion. He zapped the grasslands of Equestria, leaving behind a cosmic spark that sank into the ground itself.

Despite Lucien saying that it was something small, this newly formed occurrence was not small in the slightest. The ground below was trembling all of a sudden, even causing the trees themselves to almost fall over due to the immense tremors underground.

The Pokemon around these grasslands made a run for it except for the ones that could fly. After all, they were in the sky. There was no possible way that the ground could affect them.

At least, that's what they thought until what Lucien had planted emerged from the ground. He had brought over the famous phenomenon that exists exclusively in the Galar Region.

The Dynamax Phenomenon. Along with those signature dens with the crimson and sometimes purple Dynamax energy flowing out of them.

"Woah!" Sienna's jaw dropped. "You brought Dynamax here?!"

"Yeah, but I went a step further. I didn't just bring it here. I connected with a certain Pokemon who's all about Dynamax."

"Certain...?" Sienna sat down on a cloud, thinking for a moment. That's when it hit her. "Oh, you mean..."

"That's right. It's not gonna show up for a while. But when it does, that's where the real fun can begin. The Rift is gonna love this!"

"Well, you've got something planned. I'm gonna go do my own thing." Sienna stood up with a proud look on her face.

"Hm? Like what?"

"All you need to do know is that it's gonna beat your long game plan by a mile. The Rift's gonna love my plan more than yours."

"Is that a challenge?"

"It sure is. Wanna put a bet on it?"

"Okay, sure!" Lucien held his hand out. "Whoever can give Equestria the better form of chaos wins uh...what do we win?"

"...Not sure. But I'll think of something. You're going down, Lucien!"

The den of Dynamax energy was already playing its part, slowly spreading its particles across the lands of Equestria. Wherever they may end up and which Pokemon they might affect is unknown. But what is known is that when it happens, it'll be impossible to ignore.

The Pokemon School, Canterlot.

The remaining teachers which were mostly Gym Leaders had shown up finally. The ones who were here early yesterday were Roxanne, Brawly, Roxie, Fantina and Volkner.

Today was an induction, where the students will come in and gain information on which rooms they'll study in during certain days, which teachers they'll have and their schedule.

Now, the remaining teachers had revealed themselves to the students who were currently present at the school today. Last time the students were here during Roxanne's tour, they were only able to see the first and second floor. Little did they know how many rooms there were in total on the other floors.

On each floor, there were 18 classes each. For the first and second it was 18. And for the third and fourth it was 36. And so and so forth. Some represented the 18 Pokemon Types whilst others were for different topics.

Roxanne, Brawly and Roxie were all on the first floor. They were perfect examples since, in their respective regions, they're the earliest Gym Leaders. The stronger the Gym Leader, the higher the floor.

And despite the classrooms being type-themed, the teachers of each classroom teach more than just typings. They're here to given the ponies lessons about everything they need to know about Pokemon and more.

However, there were only 14 gym leaders present and not all of them covered all 18 types. Some shared typings.

7 extra classrooms were focused on trainers who weren't Gym Leaders but different occupations. Such as Hollow, who teaches regularly. Along with Brock who specializes in Pokemon Breeding.

"Alright. I believe all 14 of you can meet your students now." Celestia said to the teachers.

"Well, you've already met five of us, so I believe you should meet the others." Roxanne passed it on to the others. And the list of teachers goes as followed.

From Johto, the Olivine City Gym Leader. The Steel Clad Defence Girl, Jasmine.

From Sinnoh, the Snowpoint City Gym Leader. The Diamond Dust Girl, Candice.

From Kalos, the Laverre City Gym Leader. The Maiden From A Land With History, Valerie.

From Unova, the Opelucid City Gym Leader and also Mayor of that entire city. The Spartan Mayor, Drayden.

Also from Unova, the Nimbasa City Gym Leader. The Shining Beauty, Elesa.

Also from Kalos, the Anistar City Gym Leader. The person who Makes paths with starlight, Olympia.

Also from Johto, the Blackthorn City Gym Leader. The blessed user of Dragon Pokemon, Clair.

Also from Hoenn, the Petalburg City Gym Leader. The man in Pursuit of Power, Norman.

And finally, straight from Kanto, the Vermillion City Gym Leader. The Lightning Lieutenant, Lt. Surge.

There was a pretty hefty amount of them present today. And to think that there are even more that have yet to show themselves. But they weren't here today.

And of course, the one who volunteered to run the entire school as Principal was none other than the Champion of Sinnoh, Cynthia. Originally, Leon was selected to run the school, but he turned it down. So Cynthia stepped up to the plate. Even if it meant leaving her vacation home in Undella, she was determined to teach this world about Pokemon.

Although at the moment, she wasn't present outside. Rather inside.

And with that, the Pokemon School was officially open. With high hopes and high energy, mostly from Twilight, the ponies made their way indoors to see how the first day would go.

And of course, Team Rocket being incognito with Jessie being a guidance counsellor, James and Meowth being janitors, the task of catching every single Pokemon here including the eggs in the breeding room will prove to be their greatest challenge yet.

But they do it all for the boss.

The students were all given schedule sheets on what lessons were first and how long they'll last. Surprisingly, they were fairly short.

Going from 9:30 to 12:30. At least, on a Monday. And speaking of which, some students were allowed to come in on specific days.

Some could come from Monday to Wednesday while others had no classes on Monday but instead Wednesday to Friday. Clearly, this was for certain ponies who are on different skill levels when it comes to their knowledge of Pokemon.

But just for today, all of them will be present for induction.

Along with Twilight, her friends had actually signed up to this school as well with their own Trainer Cards. Now that they know that they won't be here everyday, this allows them to get on with their usual business in Ponyville and learn more about Pokemon.

Best of both worlds.

"And here I thought it would be for 5 days straight. Thank goodness." Rarity let out a sigh of relief.

"So where are headed first?" Rainbow Dash looked at the schedule.

"Well, since the 6 of us are experienced in Pokemon knowledge to a decent degree and considering our ages, we're supposed to go over to Fantina's room first. The second floor" Twilight read the schedule.

"What about you three? Since you're younger you're on the first floor, right?" Fluttershy asked the CMC.

"The first floor is right. Who's Roxie again?" Sweetie Belle wondered.

"She was that Poison lady with the guitar and music club looking place." Apple Bloom remembered. "Are we gonna have to catch Poison-Type Pokemon?"

"Hope not. They kinda freak me out..." Scootaloo shuddered.

The Mane 6 and CMC went their separate ways with their classes being on separate floors. In both classrooms, Fantina and Roxie were waiting for the arrival of their students. They already had a lot to tell them and what they can prepare for.

First, was Fantina.

Her classroom was a perfect mixture of a contest hall and her gym over at Hearthome. There were torches illuminated by eerie grey-blue colours with stained glass windows and it even slightly resembled a cathedral. She even had a huge arena that matched a contest hall's arena.

"Hello, my little ponies! Glad you're here for the induction!" Fantina slid in with her Driflblim by her side.

"Drif!"

"Avez-vous tous été bien? I hope so. There is a lot to cover for today! Take a seat, please." Saying that made everypony apart of Fantina's class take their seats, which also resembled a contest hall's crowd stands. "Now. I assume most of you already know a lot about Pokemon, droite?"

"Mhm." They all nodded.

"Merveilleux! So your knowledge is well-versed. But you all still have a long way to go I'm afraid. There are still many mysteries about Pokemon that you have yet to uncover. But do not worry. The Gym Leaders and I will be here to help you through it."

"So what are we doing first?" Twilight got all giddy, standing up from her seat. "Are we going to learn about certain Pokemon and their culture?! Specific genes?! I can't wait!"

"What a nerd..." A mare from amidst the class mumbled.

"Quelqu'un s'excite. What we will actually be doing first is preparing you for certain types."

"Preparing?" They collectively said.

"Preparing. You see, some Pokemon Types can be délicat to handle. You can befriend them but coming across others will lead to difficult situations, tu vois. With me being your first teacher, I shall take you through the first course."

"Oh...I believe we've come across situations like that before." Rarity nodded, referring to the Dark-Type.

"So the first type, mon préféré, will be the Ghost-Type. Pokemon that are maîtres at illusions, souls, shadows and other effrayant ongoings. I can already see some of you are shuddering."

It was true. Some ponies were afraid of Ghost-Types for obvious reasons. Most of them due to the Spiritomb situation.

"Which is why you will all be carrying Ghost-Type Pokemon of your own. Drifblim. Si vous voulez?"

"Drif!" The Blimp Pokemon used Psychic to bring over a box filled with nothing but Poke Balls inside, placing them in front of its trainer. "Blim."

"Passez devant and pick your Poke Balls. One Poke Ball per student." Fantina ordered them. With that, everypony got off their seats, heading over to the box to take their pick.

It was unclear of which Ghost-Type Pokemon would be in each Poke Ball, so the best they could do was just select a random one and see what happens.

"Now. Send out the Pokemon that you have all chosen."

"I've got a good feeling about this one." Twilight held out her Poke Ball, sending out the first Ghost-Type of the class. An Aegislash.

"Aegis!" The Royal Sword Pokemon slashed the air with its bladed body.

"Oh, what is this?!" Twilight took out her Pokedex for this never before seen Pokemon to her.

"Aegislash. The Royal Sword Pokemon. Generations of kings were attended by these Pokémon, which used their spectral power to manipulate and control people and Pokémon. Once upon a time, a king with an Aegislash reigned over the land. His Pokémon eventually drained him of life, and his kingdom fell with him. Apparently, it can detect the innate qualities of leadership. According to legend, whoever it recognizes is destined to become king."

"Who's in here?" Fluttershy let out her Pokemon as did everypony else in the entire classroom. For Fluttershy, her Pokemon was a Mimikyu.

"Kyu." The Disguise Pokemon flopped its head to the side.

Applejack sent out her Ghost-Type which ended up being a Golett.

"Gol!"

For Pinkie and Rarity, they both managed to get Chandelure and a Froslass.

"Chande!"

"Fros..."

Rainbow Dash had managed to end up with a Drakloak. By taking out her dex, she read the information about this never before seen Pokemon to her.

"Drakloak. The Caretaker Pokemon. It’s capable of flying faster than 120 mph. It battles alongside Dreepy and dotes on them until they successfully evolve. Without a Dreepy to place on its head and care for, it gets so uneasy it’ll try to substitute any Pokémon it finds for the missing Dreepy."

"Lucky me. I got a Dragon-Type!" Rainbow Dash squeed, picking up the Caretaker Pokemon.

"Dra." In response, Drakloak breathed a Will-O-Wisp on her face.

"Gh!" Rainbow Dash winced. "Ugh..."

As for Starlight, she ended up with a Galarian Corsola which already made her uneasy due to the face it was making.

"Ugh... Does this have to be my Pokemon?" Starlight pulled back.

"Cors..."

"That looks like a Corsola but...all sad and weird." Rainbow turned her dex to it.

"Corsola. The Coral Pokemon. The Galarian Variant. Watch your step when wandering areas oceans once covered. What looks like a stone could be this Pokémon, and it will curse you if you kick it. Sudden climate change wiped out this ancient kind of Corsola. This Pokémon absorbs others’ life-force through its branches."

"Geeugh..." Starlight winced. "Can I swap with somepony's Ghost-Type?"

"Non, non." Fantina wagged her finger. "You will have to go with this one. It is why we're having you little ponies prepare for every other Ghost-Type in the future."

"Alright..." Starlight looked over at the Coral Pokemon.

"Alors, maintenant! With your Ghost-Type Pokemon, we will have you learning how to deal with their malicieux tricks. But first, we will have each of you get along with your new Pokemon, d'accord? And after that, we shall have a battle with them."

"That can't be too hard. Look at how cute they are!" Pinkie held up Chandelure.

"Chande...lure!" And just like Rainbow Dash's Drakloak, Chandelure fired an Inferno on Pinkie Pie's head, messing up her puffy and fun mane.

"See...?" Pinkie coughed out smoke. "Cute."

To bond with a Ghost-Type is to bond with the afterlife and spirits themselves. Although, due to their mischievous nature, Ghost-Types are tricky to befriend. But once a trainer can get past that nature and go along with it, a truly wonderful friendship is born.

For the ponies to get along with these cursed and creepy creatures, they would have to find their own way of befriending them.

"Here. You like snacks, Chandelure?" Pinkie held a cupcake in front of the Luring Pokemon. "But uh...where's your mouth?"

"Oh, désolé, Pinkie Pie." Fantina went up to her. "But not every Ghost-Type can eat real food. Some of them actually feed on souls and spirits as food."

"Lure!"

"Souls and Spirits you say? I can't bake that! Rainbow Dash. Can I borrow a bit of your soul?"

"No way!" Rainbow Dash denied Pinkie's' odd offer.

"Let's see. What moves do you have?" Twilight used her dex to see Aegislash's moveset.

"King's Shield. Sacred Sword. Shadow Claw. Iron Head."

"Pure strength, hm? You'll do great in our upcoming battle."

"Aegislash!" The Royal Sword Pokemon slashed a bit of Twilight's mane off in excitement.

"Eep!" The young alicorn squealed.

"Aw, it's okay Mimikyu. You don't have to pretend to be Pikachu to be loved." Fluttershy patted the Disguise Pokemon on the head.

"Mimikyu..."

"Lett! Golett!" Golett suddenly stood up tall in front of Applejack.

"Uh..W-What's it's trying to do?" Applejack shifted her eyes from left to right, confused on Golett's sudden enthusiasm.

"You might want to read this for the reason." Fantina showed Applejack Golett's dex entry which would explain why it was acting like this.

"Golett. The Automaton Pokemon. The energy that burns inside it enables it to move, but no one has yet been able to identify this energy. This Pokémon was created from clay by the science of an ancient and mysterious civilization. It received orders from its master many thousands of years ago, and it still follows those orders to this day."

"It seems that Golett's old master must've been similar to you in a way. Whoever it may have been. And now Golett will be loyal to you no matter what. C'est merveilleux!

"Somepony on Earth was similar to me? What are the odds." Applejack's eyes widened.

"Gol!"

Starlight's Corsola hadn't made a single action so far. It has just been sitting there, unresponsive. And that was a bit uneasy for Starlight Glimmer.

"Come on...do something." She used her magic to pick up a pen, poking the Ghost-Type. And yet, Corsola did nothing. "Ugh...Is the other Corsola like this?"

"Not really. The other Corsola is always happy and smiling!" Pinkie squeed.

"Great...." Starlight sighed.

"Fros." To get along with Rarity, the Snow Land Pokemon used its ice to create a sculpture of the unicorn right in front of her.

"Oh! Brilliant!" Rarity clapped her hooves together, impressed by Froslass's sculpture.

"Has anypony seen my Sableye?" But it was quickly revealed that Froslass actually used a Sableye as a base for her sculpture.

"Fros-Froslass." The Snow Land Pokemon giggled whilst Rarity shook her head.

Getting along with the Ghost-Types was trickier than it looked. Somepony's shadow had been possessed by a Gengar.

A Yamask had accidentaly placed its mask on the face of somepony, leaving them with the memories of its past life. Although, this Yamask's previous life wasn't too bad.

Fantina could see how most of the ponies were struggling with the Ghost-Types with only a few exceptions here and there.

"Oh, mon dieu. This will be a long school year."

With the ponies learning to get along with the Ghost-Types and preparing for their upcoming battle, Twilight couldn't help but wonder what Ash was doing at a time like this.

In truth, while Ash wasn't apart of the school since he's an experienced trainer and not a pony, he decided to just hang about the school and watch how it all goes down alongside his buddy.

Celestia flew down, seeing how Ash was relaxing nonchalantly. "Ash. Aren't you going to go inside and see how their classes go?"

"Hm? Nah. I'm good. I'm waiting for the outside stuff to happen."

"Pikachu."

"I see. Hopefully, Luna performs well in this school."

"Luna? She signed up?!" Ash stood up.

"Pika?!"

"Oh, yes. You should have seen her when she decided to join the Pokemon School." Celestia chuckled, recalling Luna's enthusiasm for wanting to join the school. It went a little something like this.

"Sister! Can I join? Can I?!" Luna teleported around Celestia repeatedly, pleading her older sister.

"Aren't you a little too old to be joining a school as a student?" Celestia raised an eyebrow.

"Yes. Yes, I am. But this is different! It's Pokemon."

"Hm. I suppose you do need further knowledge of Pokemon as well. Much like everypony in Equestria."

"Will you join me?!" She squeed.

"Oh, no. I'm unable to. You have fewer royal duties than me after all. I still have a plethora that I must attend to."

"What a shame. Oh, well!" Luna teleported in and out of the spot she stood in. She wore a Pokemon cap along with a saddlebag with tons of Poke Balls inside. "I shall ace every lesson I am in! Guaranteed!"

"Since Luna's the third-ranked trainer in the Equestria League, she's apparently been sent to a special class where she will be the only student," Celestia explained.

"The only student? Wonder who her teacher is?" Ash wondered, looking up at the highest floor of the school.

"Pika..."

"Whoever it may be, I'm sure they'll help increase Luna's Pokemon skills even further. Now I'll have to get going. In a few days, I'll finally have a chance to spend some time with Cobalion." Celestia pranced on the spot, teleporting back inside of Canterlot Castle.

"Everyone's really getting psyched and into Pokemon more, especially in the New Year, huh buddy?"

"Pikachu." The Electric Mouse Pokemon nodded.

"I'm really psyched to learn what our next adventure will be this year!"

"Pika!"

With the ponies going through their induction for the day, the Canterlot Tournament's continuation is creeping around the corner along with the inevitable Pokemon Festival, the New Year brings new possibilities and events for the ponies to look forward to. However, the Dynamax energy formed by Lucien was one even that they could never anticipate as the journey continues.

Chapter 249 End.
