Gym Leader in Training

Holon Region. Holon Research Tower. Day.

Visiting the Holon Region was Ash and all of his friends. Most had gone into small groups and split up while some stayed behind at the settlements. One of which were Twilight and Starlight. They went to the main town which was also named after the region itself. Holon.

With the help of Professor Pine, the two of them had entered the Holon Research Tower to know more about this region overall. From the Magnetic Storm to the Delta Pokemon.

"Right here. This is where most of the work is done. Even beyond my lab." Pine introduced. "It was also made to try and manipulate the unique magnetic properties of the area overall. To produce electromagnetic energy that hoped to aid scientists to track Mew."

Entering the upper floor of the tower allowed Twilight and Starlight to meet with the rest of the scientists working here. And of course, there were more Delta Pokemon with them. Twilight and Starlight had seen a Psyduck and a Xatu. Psyduck was revealed to be an Electric-Type whilst Xatu was a Dark-Type as noted by the Pokedex.

"So, why Mew? I mean, I know a lot of researchers are always searching for Mew since it has so many genes of many Pokemon," said Twilight.

"Well, we believed that Mew was the answer to everything. And we still do. But that slightly changed once we learned about Arceus." Pine then turned to them, revealing Arceus. The Pokemon with the greatest importance out of any other Pokemon out there.

"Did you see Arceus?!" Starlight asked.

"You could say that. We caught a glimpse. Some sort of light silhouette during our discoveries. We've heard about Arceus before in the Sinnoh Region and how it created the Pokemon Universe. Knowing that knowledge, it changed our perspective on Mew. But Mew's still important to us, even though our goals have changed."

"Oh, I get it now!" Twilight pieced it together. "You came here looking for Mew but found other things to keep your interest. Like those magnetic storms. But are you looking for Arceus too?"

"Looking for Arceus? Oh no." Pine chuckled. "If we're struggling to find Mew, the chances of us finding Arceus are much lower. Right now, we're trying to see how far these storms can go. What say we try and manipulate them together? Have you ever manipulated storms before?"

"I mean. I could, since I'm an alicorn, but I've never tried it before." Twilight shrugged as Starlight has definitely never manipulated the weather once in her life.

"It's not too complicated. From what we've seen so far, the storms are harmless and even children that come here don't cause any trouble. They only affect Pokemon and in positive ways." Pine showed them one of the machines that were tailored to manipulating the magnetic storms within the weather.

Twilight and Starlight were free to mess with it. Everything here was both streamlined and fun to look at, making it addicting to the eyes. No wonder a child would want to interact with them.

"Hmm..." Twilight already loved the idea of this. She hadn't really messed with many machines before. Her Pokemon Lab back at Ponyville only had a Fossil Machine and a PC. But that was it. Even in the Human World, she had limitations. Now, she could go crazy. "Let's see..."

However, Twilight made sure to be cautious. She didn't want to just start pushing and pulling whatever she saw. The machine had a screen that showed various locations in Holon. Some of which the rest of her friends were currently exploring in.

It showed her the Holon Grasslands and the Mirage Forest. Twilight locked her eyes onto the Mirage Forest mainly, getting a good glance at it. She saw how crackles of odd energy were forming there. This greatly caught Twilight's attention as the crackles looked like they were distorting space. "Those crackles...Are those the magnetic waves?"

"They certainly are. Mirage Forest is a popular spot in Holon since the magnetic storms are commonly seen there. If I were you, I'd go there first. Some of your friends are there too, aren't they?"

"Looks like the best place to be. But what if I did this?" Twilight finally interacted with the machine, pulling a lever with her magic. Thus, the machine's many utilities began showing themselves as the magnetic storms that were present in the Holon Region could be heard.

Everyone in Holon knew what they sounded like, but Twilight and Starlight would have the chance to find out, along with their friends who could have views from the distance and scenery. Twilight and Starlight witnessed how these magnetic storms had the appearance of an aurora plus rainbows coupled in there. Lightning also flared from them, albeit brief.

"All of this is free to control?" Twilight marvelled before turning off the magnetic storms. This level of control was on par with a pegasus controlling the weather. "I like what I'm seeing."

"You'll love more of what's to come. How about a request?" Pine offered Twilight and Starlight a quick request. "There are some Delta Pokemon we're personally having a hard time getting to."

"How hard?" Twilight and Starlight asked.

"Well, I'm wearing one glove for a reason, aren't I?" Pine then showed the singular red glove that she had on. Judging by this glove, her hand had been through a less-than-pleasant experience. "Do you think you can help with that?"

"Hard to get to, huh? Well, there's a chance that Ash and the others might bump into it and have a good chance but...sure. I want to see for myself." Starlight liked the sound of that. "That one mountain place seemed interesting enough. I think I saw a pyramid there?"

"Only one way to find out." Twilight was all in for it as well. "We'll come back with whatever we can, Professor Pine."

Holon Grasslands.

Meanwhile, Ash, Fluttershy and Applejack were currently following a Delta Treecko that they had encountered. This Delta Treecko wished to battle Applejack's Sceptile, as is tradition with a majority of Fighting-Types. And when following Treecko, they had caught a glimpse of the magnetic storms.

"Looks like it's happening right now," said Fluttershy once witnessing the storm. She was still holding onto the Delta Skitty that jumped into her hooves minutes ago.

"Do you think it's gonna zap a POkemon with it?" Ash wondered if a random Pokemon would end up being affected by the storm today. They seemed erratic despite them being controlled. Then again, despite having a machine to control them, storms would always be frantic without any clear guidance unless a Pokemon was behind it.

"Tree. Treecko!" Delta Treecko eventually slowed down with its guiding. That was because it spotted someone ahead and so did the group. Treecko hopped over a tree, approaching a nearby mound of rocks that were so grouped together that they almost made an entire mountain. There, someone could be seen near it. Someone with an overwhelmingly large backpack who was soon alerted by Treecko's cry.

"Hm? Oh, Treecko!" The man spotted the Karate Gecko Pokemon. Treecko then landed on the man's shoulder right next to that massive backpack he was carrying. "There you are. Where did you go this time?"

"Treecko."

"So it's not a wild one? That your Treecko right there?" Applejack asked.

"Sure is. He bumped into you, didn't he?" The man with the massive backpack replied, facing the trio. Sceptile nodded in confirmation for the backpacker. "Treecko does that a lot."

"Tree."

"Name's Heike. Are you all visiting Holon? Haven't seen you around." Heike introduced himself to the group.

"Yeah, we're visiting. Came here to check out all of the Delta Pokemon and we've already seen a lot of awesome ones," said Ash. "Just like Treecko over there."

"With all of our friends."

"Nice. Well, I'm visiting here too. My fifth time being here." Heike further revealed more of himself. "But welcome. You're in for a treat in this region now that you're here and this is only just the beginning area."

"Treecko-Treecko." Treecko then nudged his trainers' shoulder, causing him to focus on mainly Applejack and Sceptile. He did guide them to find a place to battle. But of course, he couldn't battle without his trainer.

"Hm? You found someone new to battle?" He managed to translate Treecko's words via mannerisms. Treecko nodded before giving more mannerisms, nudging his head in Sceptile and Applejack's direction.

"He means us. Treecko came from those trees and wanted a battle with my Sceptile over here." Applejack chimed in. "Sceptile's all for it. Aren't you, partner?"

"Sceptile!"

"I figured so." Heike expected this. Judging from the words he spoke earlier, this wasn't the first time this has happened. And the Pokedex entry about Delta Treecko backed this up. "You see, I'm still getting used to Treecko doing this. I'm sorta new to Delta Pokemon myself. It's why I came here. It's a good thing Treecko always comes back to me..."

"Tree!"

"Don't sweat it. We're all newbies here in the Holon Region together." Ash proudly patted himself on the chest. "But, you've got more experience than us with 5 times. This place has gotta be so addicting to come back to every time, right?"

"It is. But truthfully, I'm only coming back here not just for Delta Pokemon, but because I was chosen to be a Gym Leader." Heike leaned in, giving them some fresh new information to consume. "You know how Holon doesn't have a Pokemon League? Well, once they sort everything out here, they'll start one."

"Ooh! So you're a Gym Leader in training?" Fluttershy asked.

"Sure are. I may not look like Gym Leader Material but I've been working hard. Ever since I got Treecko, I was assigned with being the Normal-Type Gym Leader. Only Delta Pokemon with Normal-Types for me." He then gave his Treecko a small fist bump. "And any help I can get to be on the level of a Gym Leader would be great. Such as a battle."

"Then this is perfect timing. Applejack knows a thing or two about helping Gym Leaders." Fluttershy jazzed her hooves in Applejack's direction. Indeed. Applejack did help Roseluck, Ponyville's first Gym Leader in being a better Gym Leader.

"Aw shucks..." Applejack felt embarrassed by that, hiding behind Sceptile. "It wasn't much..."

"How about it, Applejack? What say we start battling?" Heike held his hand out, ready for the Pokemon Battle between both their Pokemon and as a means of helping Heike improve as a Gym Leader. "You're a Gym Leader helper, right?"

"Might not be able to help you much, but sure!" Applejack held her hoof out as Heike grabbed it. It was official. The time for battling was now.

And thankfully, this area in the grasslands was wide enough for a battle to commence. Against two Pokemon of a similar species but with variations. Sceptile and Delta Treecko. Ash and Fluttershy stood by, keeping their distance as their Pokemon plus the Delta Skitty would observe.

"I would like more than one of our Pokemon going at it but...feels kinda fitting to just have it be Treecko vs Sceptile, don't you think?" Heike said, opting for a 1-on-1 instead of any more Pokemon. "Unless you've got more than Sceptile."

"I've only got Golett after Sceptile but it's back home at Sweet Apple Acres. But Sceptile's all I need."

"Works for me. Alright, Treecko! Let's go!"

"Treecko!" Treecko front flipped off of Heike's shoulder before sticking a superhero-style landing as his method of descent. He was ready for action as always.

"Get in there, Sceptile!"

"Sceptile!" Sceptile simply stepped forward but he made it a powerful step, causing some dust to fly around for a bit upon his initial step. He stood before his first-stage variant, crossing his arms afterwards. The magnetic storms from the Holon Research Tower crackled for a bit as the final spark prompted the battle to begin.

"Treecko! Start this with Quick Attack!"

"Treecko...!" Treecko pumped his arms for a bit before bolting off of the ground, outlining himself in light. As he ran at lightning speeds, he left afterimages of his movements.

"Sceptile! Block it with Leaf Blade!"

"Scep!" Sceptile took a stance before extending his bladed leaves on his arms. One of his arms had been raised as he had blocked Treecko's blistering tackle, much like their first encounter within the trees. "Tile!" They glared at each other before Treecko jumped back, evading Sceptile's other Leaf Blade that was swung at him.

Treecko then started moving with Quick Attack, using his speed to his advantage The Treecko species and the Sceptile line, in general, were speedy Pokemon and this was shown even more with Delta Treecko as he started zigzagging in different directions, circling Sceptile. Sceptile could keep up with this ludicrous speed as Treecko moved in for another attack, leaving more afterimages.

"Tree!" Treecko shouted, only for his next attack to be blocked once more. Treecko kept his distance by jumping away, but not before leaping off of Sceptile's blades.

"Check out that speed! You gotta love how fast the Sceptile line is!" Ash admired.

"Pikachu!"

"Treecko, Karate Chop!"

"Tree!" Treecko slid on the ground, quickly bringing himself back into the air with his arm being raised.

"Sceptile, Dragon Pulse!"

"Scep...!" Sceptile held his breath in, puffing his chest. After building up some draconic energy, he unleashed it from his mouth, firing it at Treecko once he got close. Treecko's eyes widened as his vision could only see the face of a dragon approaching him.

"Chop it, Treecko!"

"Treecko!" A risky attempt. But Pokemon Trainers and their partners were all about taking risks. Treecko narrowed his eyes, swinging his Karate Chop down onto the pulse. He made direct contact, however, he was unable to overpower it. Dragon Pulse combusted, blowing Treecko away. "Ko!"

"Treecko! Are you okay?!" Heike gasped as Treecko still managed to slide on the ground as recovery.

"Thunder Punch, now!"

"Sceptile!" Sceptile decided to get up close and personal. Sparking his hands with electricity, he approached his smaller variant with lightning trailing.

"You use Thunder Punch too!"

"Treecko!" Treecko pulled off the same move, throwing his sparking hands at his larger variant. Both Thunder Punches had collided with Treecko trying to push through as the victor. However, despite them staying there for a moment, causing lightning to fly around, Sceptile still had the superior physical strength as his Thunder Punch overpowered Treecko's striking his chest. "Ko!"

"Scep...Tile!" Sceptile put some extra oomph into this attack, making his fist stay on Treecko for a bit. After doing so, Sceptile released his muscle strength, causing the lightning to burst out with Treecko being rocketed like a slingshot.

"Treecko!" Treecko screamed before tumbling on the ground. There was no recovery this time with a slide or stylish landing. Once he fell, that Thunder Punch did the trick as Treecko had fainted. "Treecko..."

"Guess that's that..." Heike sighed, holding his head.

"Great job, partner." Applejack said, raising her hoof. Sceptile used one of his vines to touch Applejack's hoof as they essentially gave each other a high-five Treecko held his head, sitting up and feeling dazed.

"Looks like your speed isn't much against a Sceptile. At least not yet." Heike went over to his partner, kneeling to face him. He held his arm out, allowing Treecko to crawl up on it.

"Now I'm itching for a battle too" After witnessing the Pokemon Battle, Ash's boiling spirit for battling was already showing itself as always. "Did that help, Heike?"

"I can say it did a bit. But it wouldn't be the first time going up against a powerful trainer by accident." He chuckled. "Thanks for the battle, Applejack. I'm sure going up against Sceptile's inspired Treecko."

"Treecko." Treecko nodded as Sceptile was his new source of inspiration, being the further and final evolution in the Sceptile line after all.

"Sceptile."

"Ain't no problem. You didn't hold back when we battled, but ya gotta do it against trainers when ya get that role." Applejack tutored. "Gym Leaders always gotta hold back."

"They do?" This was new to Heike. He went all out in that battle even though it wasn't enough. The gap in power and skill with Sceptile and Treecko was too vast. "Hm...There aren't enough guidebooks in my backpack to let me know that."

"You'll be the first Gym Leader everyone comes to, so it's okay to go all out just a bit." But Fluttershy, who flew over to him, encouraged him to use his full strength since he was assigned as the first Gym Leader of Holon.

"Yeah. I'll be easy pickings." Heike gave a thumbs-up before realizing that he would be essentially the weakest Gym Leader compared to whoever would fill in the other roles. Knowing this, his smile was combined with flowing tears as in the blink of an eye, he was sitting near a tree, sulking. "Figures I'd be the weakest one..."

"Oh! I-I didn't mean it like that!" Fluttershy gasped with her and the others looking onwards at the sulking backpacker. Treecko patted his partner on the back to comfort him.

"Hahahaha!" Applejack simply laughed as this brought back memories of Roseluck and how she was in a similar position as Heike. "Just like Roseluck. Don't sweat it, partner. I could teach you some more tricks if ya want. Then you'd stack up to the rest."

"Really...? Thanks..." Heike felt at peace slightly with this revelation. He then stood up, opening his massive backup to gather some tissues. And once the backpack was opened, Ash and everyone were free to see the absolute behemoth that it was.

An assortment of objects would typically be found in it but not to this scale. There were seemingly hundreds of objects inside of this gargantuan backpack. Mainly for surviving the expansive world of Pokemon when adventuring and beyond. Knick knacks of all kinds and even some rare objects that wouldn't commonly be found in shops. But aside from that, Heike just wanted tissues, wiping his tears away.

"Wow...You must really get around..." Fluttershy's jaw dropped whilst gawking at the objects.

"Hm? Oh yeah. It looks impressive but I've only been travelling for a few months now. But it's still big even when it's sorta new, isn't it? I can't go anywhere without it." Heike chuckled, patting the backpack. "Anyway, do you guys know where you're heading to next?"

"We're just exploring Holon freely. We could anywhere right now," said Ash.

"Ah, same here." Heike had the same intention. "But I've got a mission on it as well. A mission to catch some Delta Pokemon for when I get to be a Gym Leader. How about we help each other out since we're moving freely? I know of a settlement that's close by."

"Sure thing." Ash agreed as Heike would be a brief travel partner. And Ash certainly has had his fair share of travel partners in the past and now the present. "Lead the way. But let's also check out everything we can!"

"Shouldn't we also watch out for those storms in the sky?" Fluttershy brought the conversation back to the skies. The weather was fine right now, but at any moment, the magnetic storms could show themselves.

"Oh, you don't have to worry about that. The storms are harmless. They don't even hurt Pokemon when they touch them." But Heike reassured her and the others that the magnetic storms were the last things to worry about if never at all. He then placed his massive backpack on before closing it. "So. Don't let this region's small size fool you. Cause up ahead's a desert and a marsh before we can get to the next settlement."

Indeed, despite how Holon was the smallest region they had been to, it was still a region, meaning that the size of it was nothing to ignore. This was still a long road ahead, albeit short. However, Ash and Pikachu lived for that.

"That just makes it all the more fun!" Knowing this, Ash couldn't help but grin as this exploration wouldn't be too short at all as he pumped his fist into the air. "Let's go!"

"Pikachu!"

Mirage Forest.

Mirage Forest. A location slightly near the Holon Grasslands. This dense forest encompassed the nearby main city of Holon and Settlement Foxtrot. Here, Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Pinkie Pie found themselves in this forest.

And during their venture in this forest, they were greeted with familiar Pokemon of alternate types. A Ledyba that was pure Steel. A Seel that was Normal and a flock of Swellow that were Fire-Types. Rainbow Dash got all of this information down in her Pokedex.

But in the meantime, it wasn't the Delta Pokemon that caught their attention. It was something else. As Rainbow Dash looked at her Pokedex, witnessing the new typings for these familiar Pokemon, she noticed how her friends had stopped trotting all of a sudden.

"Hm? What are we stopping for?"

"For that." Rarity revealed something that was equally as intriguing as the Delta Pokemon. Sparks of the electromagnetic storm could be found here instead of up in the skies. Their electricity crackled from the trees, rustling the leaves in the process. They even painted parts of the forest with their aurora-like appearance. "This doesn't look like the weather, does it?"

"I think we've hit the jackpot here." Pinkie uttered, flailing her hoof over at the storm. It also seemed to act as a sort of blockade, covering a majority of the forest.

Some Pokemon had passed through the blockade, having the electromagnetic energy pulse through their bodies. However, they were highly unaffected since the energy was harmless to them. Pinkie Pie gawked at this as she wanted a go at it. The excited pink pony hopped over to the waves, seeing how the Pokemon weren't harmed at all, tempting her to enter it.

"Ah! Pinkie Pie, wait!" Rainbow Dash thought otherwise along with Rarity. However, they soon found out that not only was it Pokemon and humans that couldn't be harmed by them, but also ponies. Pinkie Pie entered the waves as it gave her mane a nice shock, but didn't harm her at all. At best, it tickled her.

"Hehehe! That tickles!" She giggled, prancing around in the waves with all the electricity crackling. Rainbow Dash and Rarity watched as their friend was free to roll around and jump in this blockade.

"Huh...Guess it's safe." Rainbow Dash scratched her mane, approaching the waves.

"Perhaps. But I'd rather not risk messing my mane." Rarity preferred not to approach the storm as her mane would be frizzed and made extreme from the electricity. Rainbow Dash soon entered, causing her already spiky mane to gain some extra spike and frizz.

"Oh, I like this." She approved of it greatly. But as they messed around in it for a bit with Mew flying out of Pinkie Pie's mane, giggling excitedly, he felt something. And it certainly wasn't the crackle from the storm.

"Mew. Mew?" The New Species Pokemon had felt something peculiar. Far more peculiar than the storms in Holon. Mew stopped what he was doing to look over in the distance. He stayed focused on one area as the sounds of the electromagnetic storms were being blocked out by something else.

Pinkie Pie promptly stopped her frolicking to see how her partner had a dazed expression. Spinda, who was also inside of Pinkie Pies mane, popped out to roll on the floor, letting the storms tickle her. The same went for Rainbow Dash's Castform.

"Hey, Mew. Did you see something? Is it a new Delta Pokemon?" Pinkie Pie asked the New Species Pokemon.

"Mew..." Mew did not respond to Pinkie Pie. Whatever he was seeing had him fully entranced. And while Rarity and the others looked at the same direction, it was only Mew who had seen what was lying beyond.

Mew's eyes widened as his heart started racing. A smile graced his face. One of joy. He then floated forward for a bit at a gentle pace. This expression showed that he had seen something wonderful. And Pinkie Pie soon followed as she saw it as well.

Another Mew.

"Mew!" There was another Mew here. Just as Professor Pine said to them. The Holon Region certainly had a Mew that lurked around here in secrecy and it had been found. Upon finding this Mew, Pinkie Pie's Mew was overjoyed.

Another one of his kind was here. The closest he had ever gotten to meeting his kind again was with both Mewtwo that were roaming the world right now. The other Mew noticed Pinkie Pie's Mew as it couldn't resist staring at its fellow New Species Pokemon. This encounter had occurred with a rarity greater than Rarity's own name.

The encounter of another Mew. The tagalong travel partner of a Gym Leader in training Heike. And more ventures throughout the Holon Region. Each were only getting started as the afternoon would soon pass to meet with nightfall. Holon, despite being small, was already showing big revelations as the journey continues.
