Festive Future

Author's Note:

Two things.

First, a fun fact, which is also a really new fact. Apparently, Aura can interact with the Dead as shown by the Pokemon Distant Blue Sky Special. So that's neat and opens up a ton of ideas. I swear Applejack being tied to the dead and now this Aura fact is all a coincedence

And Merry Christmas.

Equestria. Canterlot. Nightfall.

It was a silent night. By this time, both Christmas and Hearth's Warming were approaching. It was past midnight and once that Sun rises, the festive days would reach their pinnacle. Once the Sun arrives, a barrage of cheers will undoubtedly come.

Still in the hospital, fast asleep, were those who helped the most in making the Golden Stairway. Very soon, once their bodies were fully healed up, they would be out of the hospital. But for now, even during Christmas and Hearth's Warming Eve, they would stay here. All of them were having their respective sweet dreams as seen by the smiles on their faces.

Twilight's dream was mainly focused on what mattered at the moment. The Golden Stairway and the passageway that was at the very end. In her dreams, Twilight set foot onto the stairway without a special suit. Why would she need a suit for this since it was a dream?

Looking up at the stairway, it was an astonishing climb. Considering it started from Canterlot and went all the way to outer space, it would take a while to reach it without a doubt. But in her dreams, she could easily change that by moving faster than usual.

Twilight would excitedly prance and gallop up the stairs as each movement on it made an orchestral sound that resembled that of Arceus' cry. She would pass by Canterlot Castle, already reaching the array of clouds. She would close her eyes as the clouds move past her face as in her dreams, the distance from the sky to space was short. Already, she laid her eyes on the starry skies of the cosmos.

Twilight then spread her wings, taking flight as her wings would even drop feathers that would fall back to Earth. She moved higher, passing every star, asteroid and planet nearby as the stairway was wide enough to reach these cosmic elements.

And right at the end, just near the Sun, the white passageway that opened up a hole in outer space was waiting for her. When getting close to the passageway, she could hear a cry coming out of it. Two cries. Multiple cries. No. Millions of cries. That could only be one Pokemon. Jirachi. Granted, she has never heard a Jirachi cry before so this was only a hypothetical understanding of what it sounded like.

The ultimate wish that would unite both worlds could finally happen. And it only took a constant back and forth against two different factions and the near-destruction of Equestria to get all the key players in place. But Twilight aimed for another wish. After all, there were more Jirachis in that strange dimension.

"What else should I wish for? There are so many possibilities..." The young alicorn thought of a plethora of wishes that could be made. But before she could continue thinking of the various options, that was when something interrupted her blissful moment.

A rumble in the cosmos went off, being strong enough to throw Twilight off balance even when she was flying. Outer space shook from this rumble, causing Twilight to land directly onto the stairway. "Ugh...What?"

The cause of this would reveal itself soon. When Twilight looked up, she saw how a hand suddenly burst through the white passageway with brute force, shattering parts of it that would soon fly out into space as debris. This hand looked human as a black glove protected it. Following that was a black cloak as there was only one terrifying individual that perfectly matched his description.

Ghetsis.

He tore open the passageway, revealing the rest of himself as he was larger than what he usually was. Strikingly large to the point where he was bigger than the stairway. Twilight gasped upon seeing the terrifying leader of Team Plasma appear as a titan.

Ghetsis made a terrifying grin with his eyes being lit up, gaining a crimson glow that matched his pupil colours. The Titanic Ghetsis would then reveal something else. A second arm. Twilight had never seen Ghetsis with his other arm, assuming that it doesn't exist. But in this dream, it certainly did as Ghetsis ended up pulling out the most important Pokemon in all of this.

Jirachi.

"Jirachi?!" Twilight exclaimed as millions of Jirachi were within Ghetsis' massive grasp, crying and screaming as they tried to escape from his grasp. Ghetsis laughed as his laughter was so loud that it could even be heard in space, shaking the planets and stars themselves. "Put them down!"

Aiming to free them from Ghetsis' clutch, Twilight would start a conflict within her dreams, even if it was not her original intention. She cocked her head back, flaring her horn with magic before releasing it as a blast. But Ghetsis wasn't the only nightmarish entity to appear.

Right as her beam approached Ghetsis' hand, something smacked it out of the way. A massive hoof suddenly materialized in outer space, hitting Twilight's beam. That hoof belonged to Rosa Maledicta, the Lich Queen. While she hasn't been seen yet, she was an ever-lurking threat that Twilight was aware of thanks to the Dread League.

More of Twilight's fears were starting to emerge. The face of Empress Twilight, her counterpart from another universe would pop out, gazing at the Princess of Friendship. Twilight was in shock as the most fearsome enemies of her past were popping up. Even ones she had yet to encounter.

And they all had one thing in common. Stopping Twilight from reaching her goal and instead, taking her goal for themselves. With all the Jirachis in their grasp, they had the power to access a multitude of wishes. And with what each of them desires, these wishes could be cataclysmic in so many unfortunate ways. Their voices would all echo out as they stated what they wanted. And all of the worst possibilities rang through Twilight's ears.

"Gah!" Waking up from this nightmare was Twilight. "Hah..." She would take a deep breath once she realized it was merely a nightmare. Thankfully, her scream didn't wake anyone up. It only alerted Absol, who was always keeping guard during the night.

"Absol?"

"Sorry if I gave you a fright there, Absol...Just a bad dream," Twilight said before sitting up. "It's the worst time to have a bad dream right now."

Of all the times she could have a bad dream, Twilight wished that it wasn't during the night of two festive holidays. But those were just her fears of what could happen. The terrifying truth that Equestria's worst enemies could take advantage of the Golden Stairway was prominent. Why wouldn't they? Considering the reason for its existence. Twilight needed to clear her mind of those possibilities, especially when an enjoyable morning was coming her way. She would get out of the hospital bed, deciding to get some fresh air for a bit. Absol would accompany her.

Over at the next room and near the hallway, she would open one of the windows as the snow would blow inside immediately. Sensing how cold it was, Twilight would rethink her decision, closing the window in a heartbeat. The chill of the snow already reached her, making the Princess of Friendship shudder.

"Trying to get some fresh air?" Someone spoke to her, also appearing awake. With a swivel of her head, Twilight would find that it was Ash along with Pikachu being awake. Pikachu would act as a lightbulb, emanating a constant electrical glow to light up this room.

"Pika?"

"Ash. Pikachu. It was just to get a bad dream out of my head." Twilight replied. "I'm afraid it might show up again now that I think about it."

"A bad dream? Of what?"

"It's the stairway." Twilight would then turn her attention to the stairway outside and how the snow would lather it. And yet, it would still appear gorgeous even with the snow on its steps. "Now that we have it...aren't you worried someone might use it to reach Jirachi and wish for something else? What's stopping them from taking this chance?"

"Yeah. I've thought about it." Ash walked towards her. "It's pretty easy for any of 'em to wanna take that chance. But the ones stopping them are us after all. We've all made it clear how far we'll go to protect our homes, right? I'm not worried at all when I know there's gonna be someone to stop them. It's not always gonna be me."

"You're right. But I'm just eager to reach Jirachi as soon as possible. That one wish will make me happier than I could possibly be. What do you think?"

"It'd be awesome, for sure. Then, we wouldn't have to worry about too much anymore, right? Not when everything's together. But you're about one thing you said yesterday. Pallet Town and Ponyville might not be that close to each other anymore. The same goes for Kanto."

"That's what I'm also worried about. We're usually so close to each other that we can just move from gateway to gateway in a few seconds, we see each other. That might not happen anymore. It's a bit odd to think about having to come over by hoof or chariot now..."

"But you've still got that super-sweet teleportation magic of yours, right?" Ash nudged her. "You can always pop in with ease thanks to that."

"That's true. I can just teleport there. But with everything else, reaching each other will just take a few extra steps, that's all. I've gotten used to the gateways now. Just seeing them, especially the one over at Ponyville gives me something nice to think about and look forward to. You've been distant from some of your friends a lot of the time, Ash. How do you handle it so well?"

"I've had a lot of friends travel with me up until now. But for every new meeting, there's also a goodbye." He would look up at the night skies, envisioning all of his travelling companions through the years and regions. "Even the people who aren't with me now are doing their best somewhere."

Within his vision, he saw others he hadn't seen for so long, he could count on them giving it their all. From his rivals to different trainers he's encountered for a day or two.

"And somehow, we meet up once again. That's gonna happen with us one day, Twilight. Even if you don't see me in Equestria for a long time, we'll meet again. With every new goodbye, there's a familiar reunion afterwards."

"That's a promise. We'll meet again when that time comes in the far future." Twilight held her hoof out before using her magic to materialize a magical fist. "And by that time, I know you'll become a Pokemon Master."

"Oh yeah. Count on it, Princess of Friendship." Ash would give a fist-bump to this magical fist as the two of them would grin at each other. Wanting a fist bump, Pikachu would do the same with Absol, who would oblige with his paw. Each of them would then laugh with each other afterwards, only being heard by them.

"See you tomorrow morning. Unless you're up for a battle?" Ash asked.

"You're still on that? Ash, I'll never battle you. I'm too scared to." She would reply as her voice would fade away from this room and the hallway.

Day.

"Happy Holidays!" At last, once the Sun rose, many of their friends and family showed up to the hospital. The hospital was filled with more visitors than usual as they even went the mile to bring a tree for them. And of course, all the presents were waiting for these recovering patients.

"Here's to the eventual new year and your full recoveries, all of you," Delia said. "We doubled up on the presents this time. Or at least, I did."

"Feeling better? Here's some charge to help with that!" Premium Polish lunged at Celestia, hugging her with a jolt of electricity from her horn.

"I feel better when you're here!" Celestia laughed, patting the android filly. "I wish I could have given you a present but I was stuck in here, sadly. EIther way, I can trust that your mother brought something here just like last time.

"Okay! Le's see what we have here!" Ash cheered before rapidly unravelling his first present. What could he want when he seemingly had so much that there were was little to give him? But Ash is a fellow who enjoys life to the fullest and always finds value in something. And in this case, he got possibly the biggest surprise that he would've never expected.

A figure of Galaxy Master. The character he made and modelled after his father was his Christmas present. Perfectly crafted and polished with every detail being immaculate to the original character. "Eh?! T-This exists?!"

"How?!" Twilight leaned in along with many others who didn't expect this at all. "Did he get that popular during the Pokemon Festival?!"

"This is the closest I'll ever get to seeing him so up close," Celestia commented. "A very nice blend of colours, I must say."

"Why does he get one and I don't...?" Luna grumbled, feeling jealous of Galaxy Master's own action figure and its mere existence.

"Ah, no, no. That's not made by any company." Delia wagged her finger. "I realized that it was my fault that Galaxy Master came to life. But I suppose that's also a benefit. So, I had the idea of trying it again but with a less animated existence. I went back to the Sea Temple to make this possible."

"Oh, you used the crystal to make it real? That's awesome, mom!" Ash's eyes lit up as this was once again his mother's work. But it was fitting. Delia made Galaxy Master come to life and he was based around his father, so it only made sense that the husband of Delia Ketchum would make him once more.

"It was a last-minute idea, I'll be honest." Delia giggled. "The People of the Water had to fast travel here."

"Wait...so, they're here too?" Ash stood up. From Delia's nod, he was correct. At this moment, the People of the Water from the Sea Temple were present. Their temple wasn't around since there wasn't much of an ocean around Canterlot, thus, they would have to make an appearance on land.

Alo, Enola and all those Ash recognized from the Sea Temple gathered outside the hospital, looking up and holding various Samiya-based presents for all.

"That's not all. That Galaxy Master figure isn't the only thing made by the crystal." Delia winked. "I had a chat with your friends and parents about what you want the most. Or even what you wanted during your previous Hearth Warming's."

"All of them?" They all said in unison.

"Almost. I couldn't quite get to your parents, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. And I have yet to meet yours, Princess Cadence."

"Good luck with meeting mine..." Cadence sighed. "You'd probably find a Mythical Pokemon before you meet them."

"Wait, us too?" Rainbow Dash, who was among the ponies that brought along these gifts, was unaware of what Delia did. That applied to Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Flurry Heart and so on.

"That's right. Go ahead and open them. Whatever you wished for as a child, you can get at last. And possibly even a better version of it!" Delia spread her arms out as Mr Mime would enter the room with more presents to share.

"Mime-Mime!" With these extra presents that were conjured up by the power of the crystals. Mr Mime would send them all to their respective and soon-to-be-owners. Already, many of them had an idea of what it could be. After all, when they were children, the number of wishes they had were at an all-time high.

When opening these presents, gifts from the far past would return. Everything they wanted but never got the chance to receive mainly due to certain limitations and poor luck of the draws were finally here. Delia knew the reaction that would come out of them. How would someone react to something they never received in the past and finally achieved it? Well, in the case of this group, joy.

All of them babbled and shouted as their eyes were stunned by what they received. And it wasn't just one gift. Most of them had multiple gifts that they once wished for as children, so there was more to go around.

"She did a better job than us...Oh well." Twilight Velvet shrugged. "It is was it is."

"Granted, I've expended a lot of the power from the crystal because of this and it will certainly be out of commission for a while." Delia chuckled, revealing that the crystal was now dry thanks to her. "But it was worth it."

"Sure was! Thanks, Mrs Ketchum!" Spike thanked. And they had yet to even touch the presents that weren't made by the Sea Temple Crystal. It was safe to say that they would be occupied in this room, taking in their gifts and using them as much as they could.

In the next room, another pleasant experience was waiting for them. The food. Once they had their time with the presents, the banquet of holiday food was spread out for them. All other patients and workers in this hospital were included since no one was exempt from this.

With a touch of Pinkie Pie's influence, they would be occupied in this room as much as they were in the patient room. But who was complaining? It was time to dig in. They brought in their presents while eating these delicacies, making a mess immediately. Ash kept the Galaxy Master figure near the window where the golden sun would shine beautifully on it.

Ash looked over at the figure while slurping some noodles. It felt like his dad was watching over him even if it wasn't actually him. But seeing Galaxy Master and how much Ash wanted to see his father again, this would do perfectly.

"Ah! My cake!" When snacking on this feast, Rarity would notice that her slice of cake had vanished the moment she looked away. "Rainbow Dash, did you take my cake!?"

"Mm-mm!" Rainbow Dash shook her head while having cake frosting on her face. She would then receive a stern but light chop to the head by Darkrai who witnessed it happen. "Oof!"

"Mmrpgh! Mmm-mmgh! Mmm!" Ash spoke with a lot of food in his mouth, trying to communicate with Princess Celestia, only to fail in doing so. Celestia would simply laugh at this in response, unable to follow a single word from him.

The Pokemon were equally as chaotic as their Trainers. They would move around frantically while eating, spreading this tasty mess everywhere. Even the Pokemon had gifts that came directly from the crystal that Delia had to find out. She had her work cut out for her even if it was mainly the crystal that did most of the work. She felt like her own Santa Claus in this instance.

Chatting with everyone else from afar via the Xtransceivers, Chrysalis would speak to her friends from the Changeling Hive, witnessing their violent consumptions first-hand. Chrysalis herself was recovering fine as at this point, Ribombee was fully healed, showing her face through the screen.

And really, everyone would mostly stay indoors instead of going outside. The hospital became one big Christmas Hot Spot because of them. And frankly, after the turbulent year that was this one, perhaps staying indoors was the best option overall. They were thankful for everyone and everything around them and certainly what could come next.

And whatever comes next is determined by a single Pokemon. But one thing is for sure, this colourful chaotic cast of characters aren't ones to let the future be wasted, even if they stay in a hospital for months. "Here's to the next year!" Ash raised his fist into the air while holding a drink. Everyone would cheer with him, raising their respective objects up.

"Pikachu!"

As the journey continues.
