Breaking past limits

Author's Note:

A neat little fact on how some ponies send out their Pokemon. Unicorns obviously use their magic, Pegasi sometimes use their wings to grab and throw the Poke Ball and Earth Ponies either tail whip or headbutt the Poke Ball. Or some times they use their teeth.

Mega Evolution Camp.

The trial for the Mega Stones continues as one of the trainers had already completed their battle. That was Rarity, of course. She had successfully defeated Steelix and obtained the Ampharosite and Lopunnite for her two Pokemon, making her the first to complete the trial as she returned to Ash and the others.

"Nice work on beating the trial, Rarity," Ash said as he gave Rarity a high-five/ high-hoof.

"Pikachu!" Pikachu also gave a high-five to Ampharos and Lopunny.

"A swimming victory, darling." Rarity flipped her mane. "That Steelix may have been durable but in terms of speed, we had a clear advantage. That was when victory was right within our eyes."

"Ampharos!"

"Lopunny!"

"So, are you gonna Mega Evolve now?!" Pinkie got up in Rarity's face. "Come on, I wanna see Mega Ampharos and Mega Lopunny!"

"In a minute." Rarity replied. "I still want to see how everypony else's battle unfolds. How are they doing, actually?"

"It's a bit split right now." Ash turned to face the tablet. "Lucario and Blaziken are really putting the pressure on Twilight and Applejack."

"Pikachu."

"Twilight's probably in the roughest spot now," said Fluttershy. "As for everypony else, they haven't reached their caves yet."

"Hm." Rarity walked over to spectate as well. "How could she possibly defeat a Lucario, I wonder?"

Twilight and Absol's battle with Lucario was far from over. But, the rest of her friends have yet to either finish their battle or either reach their caves. Applejack was still in the midst of battling against Blaziken right now with Sceptile.

And as for the others, some of them were finally reaching their caves. One of which was Rainbow Dash, who had just entered her cave. They were the fourth to reach their trial as they both saw the Altarianite on the wall of Mega Stones.

But other than the Altarianite, Rainbow Dash and Altaria were given the sight of Abomasnow, who simply stood there, emanating a chilling aura that sent chills down Rainbow Dash and Altaria's spines.

"Euuuuugh..." Rainbow shivered. "It's fine. We got this, Altaria. That Dragon Gem we got from Virbank City's gonna help a lot too. If we can beat this Abomasnow and get that Mega Stone, we'll be blazing through the rest of our Gym Battles. Then we'll even reach the top of the Equestria League together!"

"Altaria!"

"Aboma...Abomasnow!" Abomasnow was telling them both to bring it on as a mild explosion of cold wind emerged around it to show dominance. A cold mist filled the cave, already giving Abomasnow a sort of a field advantage over Altaria.

"Get ready, Altaria!"

"Taria!"

Applejack's battle.

"Now! Rush Blaziken!"

"Sceptile-Tile-Tile!" All of Sceptile's hundreds of Double Team clones moved in, planning on overwhelming Blaziken to obtain victory.

"Ken!" Blaziken's eye flared as it prepared itself for the worst. It had already been weakened by Sceptile via the waterfall in the caves, so it couldn't afford to let its guard down.

Blaziken started using Blaze Kick to destroy the approaching Sceptile clones that came close, swinging its blazing legs each time. Obviously, the Sceptile clones weren't there to defeat Blaziken. Instead, the plan was to overwhelm the Blaze Pokemon and find an opening so that Sceptile could strike at the right moment.

The real Sceptile was secretly staying back as his clones rushed in on Blaziken. Sceptile was preparing a nasty Dragon Pulse when the time was right as Applejack waited patiently.

"Ken! Blaziken!" Blaziken got on one hand, spinning its legs around with Blaze Kick as it had created a fire tornado because of that trick. The fire tornado ended up carrying some of the clones, destroying them with its violent whirlwind of fire.

One by one, the clones of Sceptile were being destroyed as Blaziken was gradually approaching the real one. But there were still more to go the Sceptile's kept rushing in. Blaziken's fire tornado was proving to be effective in clearing out the clones. At least the ones that were closer to it.

"Tile-Tile-Tile!" A few crafty Sceptile's managed to get the jump on Blaziken, throwing the Blaze Pokemon off guard. Once Blaziken cleared enough clones with its fire tornado, separating the gap, the craft Sceptile clones used their vines to grab onto the Blaze Pokemon, restraining its legs, arms and neck.

"Now! Dragon Pulse, go!"

"Sceptile!" The real Sceptile found an opening. With its clones holding Blaziken down with their vines, he could capitalize and go in for a nice and effective attack. By opening his mouth, Sceptile sent a dragon-shaped blast from his mouth which tore through some of his clones.

"B-Blaziken?!" Blaziken gasped as it had been hit by Dragon Pulse head-on. The vines from the clones really benefited at this moment to help Sceptile get a hit in.

Upon collision, a devastating explosion emerged that was wide enough to wipe out all of the Sceptile clones, leaving only the real Sceptile behind as the vines also vanished away.

And with the vines vanishing and the explosion occurring, Blaziken had actually been launched because of it, taking fairly heavy damage from Dragon Pulse.

"Ken!"

"That's what I like to see!"

"Sceptile!"

"B-Blaziken!" Blaziken hit the wall hard and falling on the ground even harder. Finally, some significant damage was being done as Blaziken looked like it was close to losing at this point. That water from earlier really helped in Applejack and Sceptile's favour.

"We're reaching the home stretch now, Sceptile! Let's end this and get that stone!"

"Tile!"

"Ken!" Blaziken, not wanting to go down easily because of its fighting spirits, front flipped off the ground, recovering with ease as its wrists ignited with fire.

Blaziken, despite being ordered to be the guardian of the Mega Stone and to test trainers and their Pokemon, can get a bit fired up during battle. At the end of the day, it is a Fighting-Type Pokemon. And if it's having a great battle, it'll most of the time, lost focus of the main task and instead, battle as if there was nothing important on the line.

Because of that, Blaziken approached Sceptile with Aerial Ace, now with incredible speed thanks to Speed Boost constantly amplifying the swiftness of the Blaze Pokemon.

"Ziken!" Appearing in front of Sceptile with speeds almost invisible to the eye, Blaziken gave its fellow Hoenn Starter a swift uppercut, dealing super-effective damage.

"Tile!"

"Now, grab Blaziken!"

"Scep!" Sceptile quickly opened his eyes as he sent out vines from his wrists which wrapped around Blaziken. Yet again, Blaziken had been caught by Sceptile's vines, but this time, Sceptile also used his hands to grab Blaziken's shoulders.

"Ken?!"

"Dragon Pulse, go!"

"Scep...!" Sceptile pulled his head back, breathing in draconic energy as he was going to fire Dragon Pulse right in front of Blaziken's face.

"Blazi...!" Blaziken did the same as it also pulled its head back, going for its own mouth-based move. That move being Flamethrower as the Blaze Pokemon was building up blazing energy from within.

"Tile!"

"Ken!" At the same time, both Pokemon unleashed their ranged moves with a dragon-shaped blast and a red-orange stream of fire coming out.

Since they were very close to each other, both moves ended up colliding with a very short gap. Now, the two of them were in a struggle up close, trying to have their own range attack come out on top.

"S-Sceptile!" Sceptiple tried pushing his head forward to make Dragon Pulse breakthrough Flamethrower, but Blaziken moved its head forward as well. The two of them couldn't seem to 1UP each other in terms of this struggle.

Because of that, the two moves eventually cancelled each other out. The cancellation of both moves resulted in an explosion that launched both Sceptile and Blaziken back, even destroying the vines that held Blaziken in place.

"Scep!"

"Blazi!"

"Let's finish this! Leaf Blade, at critical strength!"

"Sceptile!" The final stretch was here. With his wrists forming sharp glowing blades, Sceptile rushed in with all of his remaining strength to put an end to this battle.

"Blaziken!" Blaziken was planning to put an end to this battle as well with Blaze Kick. By sparking its legs, the Blaze Pokemon dashed in with fire trailing out as it did a frontflip. Being airborne, Blaziken performed a dive kick from above.

The two Hoenn Staterts ended up colliding their moves against each other. But not in the normal way. Instead, they had dashed past each other with their own attacks. Sceptile's blade slashed Blaziken's waist while Blaziken kicked past Sceptile's stomach.

In a flash, both Pokemon were on opposite sides, facing away from each other. Their attacks had landed, but only one of them could emerge as the winner. Applejack held her breath, hoping that Sceptile would stand and Blaziken would fall.

However, in an unexpected outcome. One of them didn't fall. Instead, both of them fell at the same time, fainting together.

"S-Sceptile..."

"B-Blaziken..."

"Oh!" Applejack's hat flew off as she didn't expect both of them to faint.

"A tie?!" Ash and the others exclaimed.

"Pika?!"

"Gol?!"

"Well...that doesn't happen very often." The lady awkwardly laughed.

"So, what does that mean if it's a tie?" Fluttershy asked.

"Well, if they were able to tie with the guardian, that clearly means they have a skill level equal to the guardian Pokemon itself. So, it counts as an achievement for the stone." She explained.

"Blaziken." And indeed, that tie counted for Applejack since she was able to match Blaziken in strength as both the Blaze Pokemon and Forest Pokemon were getting up.

"Good job, Sceptile." Applejack helped her partner up.

"Tile."

"Ken." Blaziken nodded, respecting Applejack's skill as a Pokemon Trainer. Being able to tie with a Pokemon that had many advantages in terms of speed, strength and moves is very rare and not something many trainers can achieve. With that, the Blaze Pokemon went over to the wall of Mega Stones, grabbing the amber that held the Sceptilite.

"Huh?"

"Scep?"

"Blaziken." Blaziken destroyed the amber with its fist as it held the two Mega Stones in its hands. The Blaze Pokemon then walked over to the duo, handing them their reward.

"Oh! So that counts, huh? "Woowee!" Applejack cheered. "Thanks a bunch!"

"Sceptile!" Sceptile grabbed the stones, placing them in Applejack's saddlebag.

"Blaziken."

"Look at us now." Applejack jumped on Sceptile's back, putting her hoof around his neck. "We're about to go far together, partner!"

"Tile!"

And with that, Applejack was now the second to complete the trial with Rarity as the first. She had successfully obtained the Sceptilite and the keystone. Blaziken sat down to recover after having such an intense battle. Possibly the most intense battle it has had yet in its life. If only Blaziken's trainer was here to see it and battle alongside the Blaze Pokemon.

Now only 3 trials remain and have yet to be completed.

Twilight's battle.

"Sol!" Absol was knocked back as he tumbled on the ground. He had just taken another Close Combat from Lucario but was still standing.

"Absol!" Twilight gasped.

"Cario." Lucario stood tall as it was succeeding in this battle so far. However, even with a great advantage, it's not like Absol hadn't made some progress. He did manage to damage the Aura Pokemon quite a bit. Even if it was minuscule. Lucario was starting to breathe in and out from this constant battling.

But if this keeps up, there's a very good chance that Twilight and Absol will not succeed in this battle and might end up losing. Using the environment was Twilight's go-to plan, but even Lucario can use the environment to its advantage as well.

"Absol...!" Absol growled as he stood back up with his usual stubborn nature. He was starting to tire out. But so was Lucario a bit. However, Lucario still had more energy left in it than Absol. It was using its Aura as an energy source to keep on going while Absol was relying on just his instincts.

"Lucario. What a Pokemon..." Twilight said to herself. "With Aura, it can just detect almost everything. Absol doesn't look like he can continue much longer."

"Sol...Sol..." Absol growled.

"But we can't afford to lose here. Not at all. Those stones are ours." Twilight narrowed her eyes as she began thinking. The young alicorn was trying to devise a plan that could overcome the whole Lucario situation.

"Ca." Lucario took its stance, getting ready to strike as Absol pivoted his foot. That's when an idea struck Twilight. She was going to use a little battle strategy that Ash sometimes uses with Pikachu when Iron Tail is in use.

"That's it!" Her eyes widened. "Absol! Get ready! We're going to give Lucario a taste of its own medicine."

"Absol!"

"Luca!" Lucario saw that Twilight was ready to continue. Thus, Lucario could go on the offensive now by using Aura Sphere next. By putting its hands together, the Aura Pokemon created a ball of aura as large as its head. "Rio!" With a mighty thrust, Lucario fired Aura Sphere straight towards Absol.

"Now, Absol! Hit it back with Quick Attack!"

"Sol-Sol!" The strategy was to hit Aura Sphere right back at Lucario with an attack. Much like how Pikachu uses Iron Tail to reflect moves. Lucario's Steel-Typing, unfortunately, gives it a weakness to its own primary type, Fighting. And that's what Twilight was going to utilize. With blinding speeds, Absol bolted forward, smashing his head onto Aura Sphere. "A-Absol!"

Absol was now trying to push Aura Sphere back at Lucario with Quick Attack, but it wasn't looking like it was about to be a successful attempt as Absol was being pushed back.

"Come on...breakthrough..." Twilight growled.

"A-Ab...!" Absol's Quick Attack couldn't do it. Aura Sphere easily beat it in terms of strength as the ball of Aura blew up in Absol's face, knocking the Disaster Pokemon back. "Sol!"

"Lucario!" It didn't stop there. Lucario was going for a second Aura Sphere, charging it up once more.

"Not yet! It has to work! Absol! This time, use Night Slash to send it back!"

"Absol!" Absol veered on the ground as he lit his horn up. This time, he used Night Slash to try and reflect Aura Sphere. Aura Sphere had been fired as Absol ran forward, smashing his horn onto Aura Sphere.

The struggle lasted a bit longer this time with Night Slash as Absol held his ground, trying his very best to push it back. Night Slash was actually strong enough to hold Aura Sphere back. But, to the dismay of Twilight and Absol, it still wasn't enough as Aura Sphere broke through Night Slash, blowing up once more and sending Absol even further back.

"Sol!"

"Absol! Don't give up! We can still push it back!"

"A-A-Absol...!" Absol agreed with Twilight on that notion. The Disaster Pokemon absolutely refuses to lose by any means necessary as she stood back up. Absol had tons of scratches on him at this point. He had been struggling against Lucario for so long. But, since Absol has been living in the harsh wilderness for so long, it didn't matter how many scratches he had on him. His wild instincts are what makes him continue.

"Lucario..." Lucario could see how determined Twilight and Absol were to win this battle and obtain those stones. Truly, they had admirable spirit and passion that any Fighting-Type Pokemon would be proud of. But, even with all that respect, Lucario refused to let them just win it so easily. There will be zero pity for its opponents.

"There has to be a way...I know we can push it back." Twilight closed her eyes, thinking of what to do next. She was still sticking with the whole reflection plan as that was really the only possible way for Lucario to take massive damage.

Twilight put all of her smarts together as she was thinking about Lucario's disadvantages. But really, there weren't any. Normally, Fighting-Type Pokemon struggle with opponents that can attack from very far distances, like Psychic and Fairy. Up close is where they normally excel.

However, Lucario can not only prevail in up-close encounters via its physical strength and expert martial arts but with Aura Sphere, it even negates the disadvantage Fighting-Types have against far away opponents. Lucario is both an expert Attacker and a Special Attacker.

And that's when it clicked for Twilight. Indeed, Lucario can easily deal with any type of opponent, up-close or far away. However, Lucario had one minor flaw but a beneficial flaw nonetheless. Twilight noticed that Lucario needs extra focus when using Aura Sphere. Especially if it's a fully charged one. Lucario can use Aura Sphere with one hand but those are the weaker versions. But those weaker versions allow Lucario to both fire Aura Sphere and defend with its other hand.

Dual hands are where Lucario can get the most damage with Aura Sphere. And with both hands busy charging Aura Sphere, Lucario has no way to defend against attacks aside from firing Aura Sphere at the right time.

"That's it...!" Twilight said to herself. "Get closer Absol! Combine Quick Attack with Night Slash! Wait for my call to strike!"

"Sol!" Absol moved forward with a white aura surrounding him. His horn also emanated a dark aura around it as Lucario was preparing another Aura Sphere.

"Luca...!" As Lucario was charging up, Twilight narrowed her eyes, waiting for the right moment to strike. She planned to hit the Aura Sphere before it flies out of Lucario's hands. She was going for the usual Blow-Up-In-Your-face tactic.

"Absol!" Absol appeared in front of Lucario at lightning speeds, waiting for Twilight to make the call. All the while, Lucario had already fully charged Aura Sphere as it was ready to fire.

"Now! Strike!"

"Absol!" With the call, Absol smashed his head forward, slamming his horn down. And at the same time, Lucario fired Aura Sphere from its hands. Absol grit his teeth as his horn connected with Lucario's Aura Sphere before it even left the Aura Pokemon's hands.

"Lu?!" Lucario's eyes widened as it had witnessed Absol collide with its attack at point-blank range. Unfortunately, Lucario's Aura Sphere hadn't yet been fully fired. Because of this, Aura Sphere was now being pressed onto Lucario's palms, which was a first for sure.

"Sol!"

"Yes! Push through, Absol! Go!"

"Absol!" Absol's eyes flared as he was giving it 100% while Lucario was trying to push Absol back and release Aura Sphere from its hands.

A clash of Aura and Dark Aura began emanating out of both Pokemon from their struggle alone. Absol had quickly closed the gap. However, he still hadn't broken through Lucario's Aura Sphere.

"Cario!" As for Lucario, it was struggling to push through itself. But not as much as Absol. Lucario did have more strength available after all. The Aura Pokemon dug deep, gathering some more Aura as Aura Sphere was starting to expand in size, slowly pushing Absol back.

"Sol?!"

"Don't give up, Absol! You have to break through!"

"Absol...!" Absol received Twilight's cry as he tried to find that inner strength of his to exceed and emerge as the victory of this battle. But that inner strength wasn't showing up at all.

"Lucario!" Meanwhile, Lucario's Aura Sphere was getting bigger by the second. At this rate, the attack will end up launching Absol like a rocket if something isn't done.

Seeing that Absol couldn't overcome Aura Sphere, Twilight scrapped the reflect tactic. It just wasn't working. However, the tactic of having Aura Sphere explode in front of Lucario was still on as Twilight decided to give one more command a try.

"...We already have Quick Attack and Night Slash active..." Twilight lowered her head before raising it. "Let's add one more in there! Dark Pulse, go!"

"Absol!" While Absol was using Quick Attack and Night Slash together, he added in one last move. His third and final move. Dark Pulse. By opening his mouth, Absol aimed directly for Aura Sphere as an orb of darkness was forming.

"Luca?!" Lucario's eyes shifted to face Absol's mouth as it noticed the incoming Dark Pulse.

"Sol!" Then, Absol unleashed Dark Pulse, shooting it directly at Aura Sphere while his horn was still on it. And thus, a chaotic result came from this.

Dark Pulse mixed with Aura Sphere along with the addition of Night Slash. All of this caused a chain reaction to occur. Dark Pulse and Aura Sphere ended up cancelling each other out. As such, whenever something like that happens, it results in one thing.

An explosion.

And sure enough, an explosion of Aura and Dark Aura had emerged, engulfing both Absol and Lucario. Twilight covered her eyes as a massive crater had been formed from the explosion, rumbling the cave as both Absol and Lucario were sent flying.

Absol crashed on the ground while Lucario hit the wall so hard that it had been stuck on it due to how much force came from that explosion.

"Sol!"

"Luca!"

"Are you okay, Absol?!"

"Absol...!" Absol had one eye open as he looked up at Lucario who was stuck to the wall. By trusting his instincts, Absol thought that attacking Lucario while it was stuck on the wall was the perfect way to gain the upper hand and achieve victory as he slowly got up.

"L-Lucario...!" Lucario was slowly starting to get off the wall. And once it frees itself, things might not look pleasant for Twilight and Absol.

"Sol!" Absol turned to face Twilight, shouting at her.

"Huh?"

"Absol!" Absol's face and voice were essentially telling Twilight to seize this moment while Lucario was pinned to the wall. A moment to attack while the Aura Pokemon was vulnerable. "Sol!"

"Attack while Lucario's pinned?"

"Absol!" He nodded.

"Alright then. Dark Pulse go!"

"Absol!" Turning to face the Aura Pokemon, the Disaster Pokemon opened his mouth, as a light purple orb surrounded in black and purple circles appeared. Absol then fired a beam of black and purple circles that spiralled around, breaking through the rubble and heading straight for Lucario.

"Cario?!" Lucario gasped as it knew that it was about to be struck by the incoming attack imbued with dark thoughts. The Aura Pokemon closed its eyes as Dark Pulse connected, engulfing the Fighting-Steel-Type.

"Absol!" But Absol didn't let the attack go afterwards. He kept it going as Dark Pulse surrounded Lucario, slowly pushing it through the wall with the amount of force being released.

"L-Lucario?!" Lucario growled as it opened its eyes, emanating its Aura to counteract Dark Pulse as a blue pulse came out. Lucario was fighting back while still being pinned to the wall.

What a Pokemon.

"Even when stuck?! Go, Absol! More power!"

"S-Sol!" Absol's Dark Pulse was now locked in a struggle with Lucario's Aura which kept emanating out with pulses. The wall that Lucario was pinned onto was slowly being destroyed because of this clash.

In fact, the entire cave was slowly coming down as the Mega Stones on the wall were being trembled. At this rate, they might end up falling from this battle alone. Or worse.

Not wanting to give up, Absol pressed on as his feet were being scraped on the hard ground, causing injures to occur. Absol received a bruise on his foot because of this, but he didn't care. He wanted to win.

"You have to do it, Absol! We're going to become stronger than ever together, right?!"

"Absol!" Agreeing with Twilight's words, both Absol and Twilight's eyes flashed with the Mega Evolution symbol, causing the Absolite on the wall to glow. And with that, Absol broke past his limits as Dark Pulse expanded, reaching critical levels and an absurd side.

Lucario's Aura had been pushed back by this dark aura to the point where it had been erased. Lucario's pupils shrunk as Dark Pulse was the victor, blasting the Aura Pokemon through the wall so hard that it sent Lucario flying outside of the cave, leaving a massive hole behind.

Afterwards, an explosion of dark energy formed that let out a horrifying echo that could be heard from across the cave as the wall had been shattered. The Mega Stones had all dropped with the amber shattering because of the sheer force of the battle.

Absol...!" Absol's mouth was letting out smoke as he breathed, showing just how much power he put into it. As he and Twilight looked at the massive hole that showed the outside, they saw all the smoke clearing.

And within the smoke, Lucario's silhouette could be seen.

"Seriously?!" Twilight gasped, stunned that Lucario was still standing.

"Sol!" Absol growled as he was ready to strike Lucario, who could seemingly go for more.

At least, it seemed that way.

Because once all the smoke vanished, Lucario wobbled around with its eyes closing. It couldn't keep its balance properly all of a sudden. Which meant only one thing.

Lucario had fainted.

"L-Lucario..."

And with that, after a long and arduous battle that tested the skills, trust and limitations of both Twilight and Absol, the two of them had emerged victorious over the amazingly powerful Lucario.

"W-We won..." Twilight stood there stunned. She was taking a moment to process this as an enormous smile was slowly gracing her face. "We won...We won!"

"Absol." Absol sighed as he was relieved it was over. As he sat down, Twilight flew over, hugging the Disaster Pokemon, which Absol still isn't a fan of. "Sol?!"

"Absol, you're amazing! The best!" Twilight screamed and squeed while aggressively hugging her partner.

"A-Absol..." Absol, while glad that he won and made Twilight happy, could do without all this hugging.

"Phew...what a rush." Pinkie Pie fell on her back after witnessing that battle.

"I'll tell ya, Twilight and Absol sure are something, aren't they?" Ash grinned.

"Pikachu!"

"Lucario..." Lucario sat up as, feeling so perplexed after that battle. It has fought some powerful opponents before, but none were as tenacious and rough as Absol. The Aura Pokemon knew that Twilight and Absol truly deserved the Absolite as it walked over to the cave.

With all the Mega Stones scattered on the ground, Lucario ended up finding the Absolite which was located right in the middle. The Aura Pokemon picked it up with both its palms as it brought it over to the duo.

"Luca."

"Oh. Our Mega Stone?" Twilight looked up at Lucario.

"Cario." Lucario nodded. They've earned it. Besides, being a Fighting-Type, Lucario truly enjoyed that battle. A battle Lucario will never forget for years to come.

"Thank you so much, Lucario!" Twilight used her magic to grab the Absolite. "Alright. We got ourselves a Mega Stone! Wait till everypony sees this!"

"Absol."

Now, Twilight was the third trainer to finish the trial and possibly the longest one so far. It took a ton of thinking, strategy and a plethora of head-smashing, but she and Absol did it.

Twilight's clever brain and Absol's wild instincts were truly a unique combination that was one to be recognized and aware of. The two of them finally achieved the Absolite, believing that this might be the key and answer to why they keep having visions of the Mega Evolution Symbol as the journey continues.
