Paul vs Olympia

Kalos. Anistar City. The Pokemon Festival. Day.

Anistar City. Paul had currently arrived at this city, beating the Dazzlings to it. But even after beating them here, he would wait for them, knowing that they would show up here soon.

Paul would take some time to wind down. While he wasn't one for festivities, he tossed them aside after the Lily of the Valley conference, he could at least indulge himself in the simpler things.

Paul sat on his lonesome while everyone else was rampant with energy, moving around rapidly. Paul would kill some time, waiting for the Dazzlings. And if they don't show up after some time, he would get on with his day and advance to the next location, expecting them to catch up later on.

Paul would have something to eat too. Realistically, he would've been here a while ago, but the journey of a Pokemon Trainer leads to many pathways that prolong the adventure but make it all the more exciting. Some small Pokemon Battles were happening nearby but Paul wouldn't involve himself in them.

But he would watch them, seeing how this new generation of Pokemon Trainers from another world were. After what he's already seen and what he's seeing now, they were impressive. In just three years, they had learned quickly. Granted, they were still behind many trainers from this world but they certainly had experience.

Paul taught a few of them that came to mind. Spike learned something from him and Aria certainly picked up something after their double encounters. He spent minutes sitting around, eating his food while waiting for the Dazzlings.

Paul then noticed how one of the trainers was currently slipping up, having a hard time against the opposing Pokemon and its trainer. His attention was drawn there as this young pony was struggling. And it was a reasonable struggle.

The trainer was using a Vikavot against a Rhydon. A naturally dangerous matchup as Vikavolt was on the back foot. The younger trainer's options were slim as this was seemingly his last Pokemon. Paul did a quick check on Vikavolt's data with his Pokedex, checking out his novelist.

He was surprisingly shocked that all of Vikavolt's offensive attacks were Electric and the only other move that wasn't an Electric-Type move was Sleep Talk.

"What do I do...?" Her options were slim as Vikavolt was in a rough spot. Having the sense to help younger and newer trainers, Paul walked over, appearing near the young filly.

"Have you tried aiming for the horn?" Paul spoke, grabbing the filly's attention.

"What?"

"Use your Electric-Attacks on Rhydon's horn. That'll give you something."

"Hey! We're in the middle of a battle! You can't just gi-" The opposing mare cried out, before receiving a menacing glare from Paul after shouting at him. She soon stayed quieted, scrunching her face. "G-Go on."

"The horn?" The mare whimpered.

"Rhydon's horn is the only thing that isn't immune to electricity. It's made out of iron and can be like a lightning rod. No matter what, Lightning and iron will always conduct. Try that instead of backing out."

"Oooh...okay! Aim for the horn, Vikavolt! Zap Cannon!"

"Vika...volt!" Vikavolt would attack, unleashing an orb made out of electricity. This was a final gambit as the filly put her hooves together, praying that this would work.

"Pssh. As if that's gonna-"

"Rhy!" "But it did work. That horn was both Rhydon's greatest weapon and weakness as well. The power of Zap Cannon reacted to the horn in a second, conducting and sending a shock through Rhydon's body. It was deemed impossible for something like this to happen to Rhydon, but that horn ended up changing things as a bright smile was brought back to the filly's face.

"It works!"

"It works?!" The opponent and other ponies gasped.

"You're never out of options to make new chances, even if you win or lose." Paul gave out that form of advice before walking off. This gave the young trainer some opportunities and left Rhydon open to some disadvantages. The battle between those two would continue instead of ending.

Paul went back to what he was doing, returning to his table full of food. He just felt like he needed to do just that before it would bug him forever. It was back to eating and waiting for the Dazzlings, otherwise, he'll have to battle the Anistar City Gym Leader later on.

Or rather, she'll come to him.a Olympia could sense a great wealth of power nearby. Her Psychic senses went off, causing her to freeze on the spot.

"Such an amazing sense of skill is nearby..." Olympia said, navigating her head to find this Trainer that housed great potential. Olympia could certainly tell when someone had potential that was brimming to the core. The last time she sensed someone of this much potential came from Ash and Greninja. That's when she saw him.

She saw Paul, sensing that great wealth of skill from him. This would gravitate Olympia towards Paul instead of Paul coming to him. Paul, while silently eating, sensed someone approaching. He then looked up to see that it was Anistar City's Gym Leader Olympia.

"Hm. Looks like you came to me." Paul commented.

"Why? Were you expecting me?" Olympia sat down at the same table as Paul. "Because I certainly wasn't expecting to encounter someone like you here."

"I only came here to challenge you. But I would take my time before reaching you." Paul replied before putting his food away. "Guess there's no need to wait for those three to get here."

"Oh, now, no need to speed up. I'd be happy to give you a challenge. And besides...the potential you hold is absolutely astonishing. I only know two others who have come here with that much potential with them. Perhaps this battle we'll have will help bring out more of that potential."

"I only came here to test my skills as a future Gym Leader. To do that, I need to go through a lot. Way more than what I've already been through."

"You'll become a Gym Leader?"

"I was asked to be one. But before I can become a Gym Leader, I want to go up against other Gym Leaders and learn more about Pokemn and their nature. I've already been through a few gyms before coming to Kalos." Paul explained his true reason for being here. "As for this great potential, I don't know about that..."

"Oh, but you should be proud that you're harbouring something like that I can already tell that you're an amazing trainer already, but you could reach new heights. But that's your decision."

"I'll think about it, maybe. Right now..." Paul stood up. "I'm here to do what I aim to do."

"I'll grant your wish." Olympia stood up as well. "Battling with a future Gym Leader sound interesting. Let's see if you're overwhelmingly strong or just the right level for a Pokemon Trainer to try and reach."

"Hey, mister!" But before they could leave to the gym, the filly from before had rushed over with high spirits, grabbing Paul's attention. "I did it! I won!"

"Congratulations." Paul congratulaed the filly without even looking at her. But the filly was happy either way. Meanwhile her opponent was still stunned by what she had seen.

"Aim for the horn...come on..." She disappointingly rolled the Poke Ball on the ground while putting her hoof on her face. Needless to say, that defeat left a massive impact on her.

"But. Change your Pokemon's moves. That horn trick won't work on every Ground-Type you meet. It's best to have some versatility." Paul gave one final piece of advice to this filly.

"Got it! I will!" She saluted before galloping away. Paul then did a smile without showing it to her.

Already, Olympia could tell what kind of Trainer Paul was and what she was getting into. And thanks to giving that filly advice, twice in a row, and speaking with Olympia for a while, enough time had passed for them to arrive.

Just nearby, driving their van which was controlled by their mother, the sirens had finally arrived at Anistar City. Despite having access to a vehicle, Paul still beat them there. He was also led by some distractions and yet he got here first. Paul and Olympia had just now entered the Gym. Paul was the victor in this race.

"Hurry! The Gym's pretty big and hard to notice!" Sonata hopped out of the van first.

"There's no chance he beat us here." Aria shook her head. "We've got a van and everything."

"Just hurry up and get this over with. What are you going to do? Just wait for him?" Adagio questioned.

"Well...this place looks like it'll kill some time." Sonata shrugged. "You never know with the Pokemon Festival."

"I'm pretty confident we got here first. Van and everything." Aria patted on the van before they all then approached the biggest building here. The Anistar City Gym. "There's no way we he would-"

Anistar City Gym.

"Get here before us?!" But the second Aria opened those doors, she and her sisters saw that Paul was already here. They entered the gym to see that the victor of this race was Paul.

"You're late. Not by much, honestly." Paul replied with his hands in his pockets. Adagio could care less as she was more impressed by the appearance of the gym while Aria and Sonata were stunned. Looking at this Gym made her feel like she was in space all of a sudden.

Multiple Psychic students of Olympia were present here as always since Olympia was undoubtley the best Psychic teacher in all of Kalos.

"B-But how...?" Sonata stammered.

"F-Forget about it." Aria shook her head, admitting defeat. "He beat us here somehow. Congrats, I guess."

"Ah, these must be your three friends." Olympia said. "They're just in time to see a future Gym Leader in the making. How would like this format to be, now that we're about to begin? I tend to always go for Double Battles, personally."

"Double Battles are fine with me...with all 6 of my Pokemon." Paul revealed how he wanted to do this battle.

"A double battle with all 6 Pokemon...Hm." Olympia smiled. "It's been quite a long time since I've done that. Such an exciting choice. I will agree to that format."

"Forget everything else happening outside. We get to see Paul have a full 6-on-6 battle?!" Sonata eyes lit up as this felt more exciting than anything that could happen outside.

"Your Pokemon better watch this as well. Especially your Brionne, Aria." Paul suggested before taking his hands out of his pockets, revealing two Poke Balls. Aria knew what Paul was getting at. Brionne would get a full view of this battle and learn from it as Aria had sent her out.

"The Battle will be a Full 6-on-6 Double Battle." One of the students would act as the referee. "The Battle will be over when all Pokemon on either side is unable to continue. Please, may you both send out your first two Pokemon."

"Here I go. Froslass! Drapion! Standby for Battle!" Paul sent out his first two Pokemon. Froslass and Drapion.

"Froslass!"

"Drapion!"

"Now...come out! Slowking! Sigilyph!" Olympia revealed her other two Pokemon. For once, she didn't lead with double Meowstic.

"Slowking."

"Sigilyph!"

"Alright then...Battle Start!"

"Let's get the weaknesses out of the way first. Slowking! Miracle Eye! Sigiliyph, Tailwind!" Olympia made the first command.

"Slow." Both of Slowking's eyes glow blue, strengthening its ability to resist attacks and allowing it to hit Dark-type Pokémon with Psychic-type moves. It managed to remove the immunity towards Drapion with just one move. Not only that, but since Drapion was also a Poison-Type, now super-effective hits were viable against it.

"Sigil!" Meanwhile, Sigilyph flapped its wings, manipulating the direction of the winds themselves, forcing them to favourite Olympia's Team and oppose Paul's Team.

"Here goes. Drapion, Pin Missile! Froslass, Shadow Ball!

"Dra!" Drapion's claws illuminated white as they were then raised above its head, where a thin, white line forms and connected them. At the same time, Froslass had formed a blob of shadows in her arms, raising it over her head. Drapion thrusted its claws forward, shooting out white streams of pins at the opponent while Froslass launched the blob.

"Meet them with Psychic and Heat Wave!"

"Sigilyph!" Reacting quickly, Sigilyph flapped its wings, sending a smouldering wave of heat while Slowking held its hand out, telekinetically holding the pins in midair. Heat Wave clashed with Shadow Ball with both attacks cancelling each other out. As for Pin Missile, Drapion fired some extra pins from its tail to try and blindside Slowking.

"King." Slowking ended up redirecting the other missiles, causing them to crash into the ones that Drapion had sent, resulting in a tie.

"Hm. Froslass! Ice Beam on the floor!"

"Froslass!" Suddenly Froslass had sent a chilling beam of ice downwards, causing a flash-freeze on the entire floor. Ice had appeared in the matter of seconds.

"Melt it away, Sigilyph! Heat Wave!"

"Intercept Sigilyph with Cross Poison!"

"Dra!" Just then, Drapion started sliding on the ice. Its pointy feet were viable for skating on the floor as Paul used that to his advantage. It was a way to fight back against Tailwind. It also made sense why he had Froslass freeze the floor as Drapion moved quicker at this pace. It quickly intercepted Sigilyph before it could make a wave of heat, smashing its X-Shaped poison-clad arms into the Avianoid Pokemon. "Drap!"

"S-Sigil!" Sigilyph cried out before being blown back by Drapion.

"Clever...using Drapion's tiny feet on the ice." Olympia saw Paul's plans. This made Drapion, who was already fast, far faster than before. "But...Psychic!"

"Slow." Slowking had then used Psychic on the ice floor, ripping out ice chunks. These chunks were then launched at both Drapion and Froslass.

"Drapion! Hit it away with Cross Poison! Froslass, Shadow Ball!"

"Pion!" After hitting Sigilyph away, Drapion would swivel, facing the ice chunks that were ripped out of the ground, hitting those as well while Froslass sent a blob of shadows to intercept the chunks. However, right as Drapion clashed with the chunks, a mental blast had suddenly hit him, blowing him back and dealing supre-effective damage. "D-Dra!"

"Hey, what gives?" Sonata leaned in. "Drapion's immune to Psychic-Type attacks! Is she cheating?!"

"No. Look here." Aria held out the Pokedex, showing off Olympia's Slowking and what Miracle Eye could do. "Miracle Eye makes it so that Dark-Types are no longer immune to Psychic-Type attacks. And since Drapion's part Poison, that Psychic is now a big threat against his Drapion."

"Oooh...That's pretty deep. She must've been waiting for something like this for Slowking to even have that attack." Sonata gawked.

"But...Types aren't everything." Paul smirked, persisting as he would leave an impact before switching things up. "Head towards Slowking, Drapion! Froslass, Hail!"

"Drapion!" Drapion would now approach Slowking as Froslass suddenly called on a hailstorm with a chilling cry.

"Hmph. Slowking! Jump!"

"Slow!" Thanks to Tailwind, Slowking was able to gain some momentum and acceleration. The Royal Pokemon performed an impressive leap, immediately jumping over Drapion and gaining some airtime.

"Gotcha. Spin with Cross Poison!"

"Dra!" But, Drapion wasn't just sliding towards Slowking. It was planning for a counter attack. Drapion immediately spun its body, using the Poison energy around its claws. By spinning on the ice, Drapion had generated a Poison Tornado that emerged from its body, rising upwards.

"S-Slow!" Slowking had been hit by this Toxic Tornado, carried and spun by it while also receiving some damage. Not only that, but the tornado of poison had also laced the Royal Pokemon with some poison.

"Incredible!" Olympia gawked as she didn't expect this. Paul had used the Counter Shield method in a new way and to his benefit. "Sigilyph! Ancient Power!"

"Gilyph!" Sigilyph would then summon rocks from the ground itself, full of fossilized power. It was all then sent towards Froslass instead of Drapion. That Toxic Tornado would be dealt with later.

"Now, Froslass! Ice Beam!"

"Froslass...!" Since Froslass had set up Hail, this allowed her ability Snow Cloak to take action. It increased her speed as once again, Paul had fought back against Tailwind, finding a way to maintain some speed. Froslass zoomed past the rocks with a graceful spin before then unleahsing a chilling beam of ice.

A direct hit towards Sigilyph, dealing super-effective damage. Not only did it deal some heavy damage, but Sigilyph's body had been frozen over. As if it wasn't already feeling the chill thanks to the snowstorm that Froslass had made, now its body was trapped within an icy prison, dropping to the floor.

"Awesome! Look at Paul go!" Sonata applauded.

"He's winning this so far. But I'm not too surprised." Adagio shrugged.

"You're certainly taking advantage of this battle and twisting it in your favour. Impressive. You truly do possess quick battle intuition. Just what I expected from someone with such great potential. But...Psycho Shift! Send it to Drapion!"

"S-Sigil...Sigilyph!" Just then, within the icy prison, Sigilyph managed to create a Psychic wave that travelled through the ice. At the speed of light, the Avianoid Pokemon ended up sending its status condition towards Drapion, who had ended the Toxic Tornado seconds ago.

"Dra-" And thanks to Psycho Shift, without Drapion even expecting it, its entire body had been frozen over as well. Psycho Shift had used Froslass' own effect against her teammate. Sigilyph had also been freed from its own prison.

"Drapion's done its part." Paul returned Drapion in the meanwhile. But it would be back. "Take a break, for now. All I needed was this hail...now, it's time for someone who doesn't mind it for a bit. Metagross! Standby for Battle!" Then, Paul revealed his next Pokemon, which was a surprising one.

"Metagross!"

"Metagross?" Aria took out her Pokedex to read about Metgross once it had appeared.

"Metagross. The Iron Leg Pokemon. Metagross has four brains in total. Combined, the four brains can breeze through difficult calculations faster than a supercomputer. This Pokémon can float in the air by tucking in its four legs. Metagross is the result of two Metang achieving fusion. When hunting, this Pokémon pins the prey to the ground under its massive body. It then eats the helpless victim using the large mouth on its stomach. Because the magnetic powers of these Pokémon get stronger in freezing temperatures, Metagross living on snowy mountains are full of energy."

Lo and behold, Metagross was unaffected by the hail. Being a Steel-Type brought a plethora of resistances and incredible durability to boot. This was all part of Paul's plan. Froslass benefitted from the Hail via an increase in her swiftness and now only her and Metagross were able to ignore the hail.

Meanwhile, Olympia's Pokemon could not resist the hail as one of them was even poisoned thanks to Drapion's Toxic Tornado. Paul's team were ready for Olympia, otherwise, he would've never decided to come here.

"Oh, this should be easy then." Sonata shrugged.

"Bri! Brionne!" Brionne was enjoying this throughout, mainly cheering for Paul.

"I don't know about that..." Aria thought otherwise.

"Oh. Pardon me. I'm so used to keeping my Pokemon in as a Gym Leader, I forgot that this isn't an official Gym Battle. I'm allowed to switch, am I?" Olympia asked.

"Go ahead." Paul didn't care at all. A battle was a battle, even if they were limitations.

"These Pokemon are impressive...but the ones I want see are her Meowstic." Paul said to himself. "That's why I'm going to force them to show up."

The Battle between Paul and Olympia was starting off strong with Paul taking the lead. However, the tied of a Pokemon Battle can change depending on how things go. Many variables were involved in this battle and even with the advantages, Paul knew that Olympia was not to be taken lightly since she was a Gym Leader.

As the journey continues.
