Listen to the Mountain

Sinnoh. Mount Coronet. Afternoon.

"W-Who are you...?" A stunned Apple Bloom had witnessed the arrival of two individuals. Galaxy Master and his partner Pikachu, who had ended up saving her from these dark thorns.

"Who am I? Allow me to introduce myself!" Galaxy Master was ready to make another entrance speech. At this point, it was necessary that he must do so when someone asks who he is. And of course, he affected the area around, darkening it and adding a spotlight.

"A flash in the cosmos! A light appears before the world to heed its sorrow and plea! From spacetime itself, I appear!" The spotlight and light let off explosions behind him as always. This time with new colours added into the mix. "The Superstar! Galaxy Master!" He finished his entrance by pulling off a pose. Pikachu posed alongside him just to look as cool.

"Pikachu!"

"Oooh..." The earth pony was instantly taken aback by this. But after hearing that name and getting a longer look at this fictional character, she was reminded of how Galaxy Master became instantly popular in Equestria for all the wrong reasons. Now, he was here in the same vicinity as her. "Ah! You're him!"

"I am him. Are you alright, my little pony?" He then held his hand out, offering to help Apple Bloom up. Apple Bloom stared at him for a bit, quickly dismissing his instant reputation in Equestria, taking his hand. He did save her life after all.

"Y-Yeah. Thanks." Once she was helped back up, Pikachu grabbed all of the Poke Balls that the thorns had dropped right after being blown away by an overwhelming force of light.

"Were you the one that called for help, young one?"

"I didn't. But I heard my friend Sweetie Belle cry out somewhere. I think we're all in danger because of these thorns that are everywhere." Apple Bloom lowered her head, thinking about the status of her friends considering how volatile these thorns were.

"Hm. Have no fear. That's why I'm here." Galaxy Master kneeled to face Apple Bloom. "These thorns won't be enough to stop me and I'll ensure that all of your friends and whoever else may be in here are safe."

"But aren't you the one helping the Rift?"

"I am. But I can't ignore another cry for help. Even if I may be in a different region."

"Thanks. Oh! I can call 'em!" Apple Bloom went over to her saddlebag, thinking about her Xtransceiver. Once Pikachu passed her saddlebag over, a shocking sight was discovered when opening the bag. Not only did the thorns take her Poke Balls away but they had also attacked her Xtransceiver.

The communication device received a massive hole that had been pierced through. It was already hinted at by the hole in her bag. The thorns already broke through the device, leaving a large hole and completely disabling it. Now, the Xtransceiver was at its worst state.

"M-My Xtransceiver!" She cried out, holding it up to see the utter destruction that befell it. It was no longer functional as the wires were poking out now.

"Don't worry. We'll still find them. Do you know your way around this mountain?"

"N-No..." The earth pony sat down, dropping her Xtransceiver. All of her contacts had been wiped out with no chance of recovery at this rate. The best she could do was get a new one. If she could escape from Mount Coronet, that is.

"Hm-hm. I see." Galaxy Master nodded in understanding. After what Apple Bloom shared with him, he was already thinking of the best way to handle this scenario. Especially with all of these thorns that were in the way. Inside and outside.

Speaking of the thorns, more of them had shown up. Bursting through the ground, they appeared, becoming more volatile than ever since Galaxy Master and Pikachu arrived, disintegrating parts of them with that mysterious light.

"Hold on!" Galaxy Master grabbed Apple Bloom, holding her close to him as protection while Pikachu would be the front guard, flaring his red sacs up with a fury of lightning.

"Pikachu!" Immediately once the thorns came flying in, Pikachu used Thunderbolt, exuding 100,000 volts that intercepted the thorns. The thorns were met with these volts, stopping in place as this was another element that had attacked them. And another element for them to adapt to. But not before they broke apart from the electricity, dropping to the ground and splitting into pieces with smoke coming out of them.

"Let's find your friends! Quickly!" Galaxy Master, carrying Apple Bloom, took with the acceleration of a jet with Pikachu following behind. The thorns had already grown fast enough thanks to its recent encounters, making it capable of chasing them down with incredible speeds.

But surprisingly, Galaxy Master was already managing to get ahead of these thorns. Apple Bloom gripped onto Galaxy Master, closing her eyes as all she could do now was just hope that her friends were safe.

Pikachu would use Iron Tail on the incoming thorns, attempting to slice them. However, thanks to the resistance against sharp attacks, the thorns resisted. Once his tail smashed into the thorns, his body vibrated from the impact, causing him to jitter. "Pi-i-i-i-k-k-a-a!"

"What's wrong Pikachu?!" Galaxy Master exclaimed, slowing down for Pikachu. Pikachu lost his balance, bouncing on the ground from the vibrations. The thorns then grabbed a hold of his tail, immediately having the means to capture Pikachu. They adapted too quickly.

"Pika...Chuuu!" But Pikachu could recover and react just as fast as the thorns grow. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said about how Pikachu could get out of this. When he tried using Thunderbolt on himself, he soon discovered it was ineffective.

The volts went through and managed to fry and smoke some of the thorns but ultimately, a majority of them didn't budge. Pikachu tried again, letting out more bursts of electricity, only for them to end in failure.

"Incredible!" Galaxy Master gasped. "These thorns have adapted to Pikachu's Thunderbolt!" He immediately picked up on the actions of these dark thorns, seeing how quickly they evolved. "They won't budge. Hold on, Pikachu!"

But just as quickly as he figured out the thorns could adapt, he then thought back to when he first showed up here. The light that he and Pikachu could turn into. They greatly damaged the thorns earlier, however, there was a chance that the thorns adapted to that too. And potentially the rest of his Pokemon if he were to bring them out. But Galaxy Master would gladly try whatever he could.

"Galaxy Flash!" Galaxy Master held one hand out, deciding to test that theory out. He used the light from his body which was his most significant source of power. The light showed up, immediately hitting the thorns.

Lo and behold, the light was as effective as before. Once it hit the thorns, they disintegrated from the mystical power it possessed. It didn't grow resistance to the light at all. The dark thorns were still vulnerable to the light as Pikachu was freed. Galaxy Master even forced them to retreat for a bit once again.

"Haha! That did the trick! Come along, Pikachu!"

"Pi? Pika?" Pikachu blinked for a bit as his body felt some of the thorns that wrapped around him earlier. He continued following his trainer as Galaxy Master had already found a weakness toward these thorns within minutes of showing up here.

Hearthome City.

Meanwhile, at Hearthome City, Rosa Maledicta was still observing how things were going here under her presence. It all seemed to go well but there was still the exception of Fantina, who was immune to her presence.

"Maybe you should get home." Fantina decided to help those who were feeling uncomfortable without any explanation they could find.

"I tried." A pony replied with a dreary tone. "But...I can't leave for some reason."

"Same here. I don't know if I don't have the strength too." Someone else who wasn't from Hearthome commented as they were all being blocked from leaving thanks to Rosa Maledicta's presence. Not only was it strong enough to make them feel uncomfortable and afflict them with something that could be considered painful, but it had the strength to prevent them from leaving this place.

Just by fear alone. The fear that something would get them or the fear that danger would arrive the moment they left. Rosa had that much of an effect on this vicinity.

"I'll help. Come with me." Fantina would guide them, however. She guided three individuals while holding a little pony in her arms. This pony felt ill, rubbing his nose as if he was coming down with the cold. But when putting her hand on his head, she felt some heat as well on the little colt.

"Am I sick?" The colt asked as he squinted his eyes and scrunched his face, feeling a headache. That was a total of three different afflictions now and it was unnatural to have them mixed together.

"If you are, you can enjoy the festival from home." Fantina held him closer to comfort the little colt. "You can even watch videos on your Pokedex."

"Wait...you can do that?" He sniffled.

"Oui." Fantina nodded before getting closer to the end of Hearthome. Rosa Maledicta had to see how this would go. Would she be immune to it just like how her presence did nothing? The individuals that were being guided by Fantina could already feel that presence, forcing them to stay back. "Don't be scared. You have nothing to fear."

Fantina encouraged them to come along. And that's when she stepped out of Hearthome City's vicinity. And once she did, she was fine. Nothing was forcing her to step back. She couldn't sense something in the atmosphere that was overwhelmingly threatening. It was all casual to her.

"!" Rosa was stunned once more. Not only could Fantina ignore her presence but she could even leave it too. And thanks to her encouragement, she encouraged the others to leave the vicinity, erasing that fear from them. Once they felt comfortable enough to be out of Hearthome, Fantina placed the colt down, letting them all be free.

"There should be a Pokemon Center in the next town. You can go there or head home." Fantina said before petting the colt on the head, sending them on their way.

"I'm stunned again..." Rosa commented. "She can ignore my presence entirely. Does she not fear what I emit? I suppose someone who has an experience with Ghost-Type Pokemon would have that."

Fantina continued to help everyone, seeing that most of them weren't comfortable being in Hearthome at the moment. She would do what she could to make them feel better, guiding others away from Hearthome to clear their heads. Whether it was heading to the Pokemon Center or a nice forest to calm down. She stood on the outskirts of Hearthome, acting as a safe passage out of this city.

"Interesting. That's all the more reason I could have her. In fact...why didn't I think about this before? My subjects back at Magehold need better tutoring with Pokemon if we're to have some advantages. Going to that Pokemon School is too risky. Having someone who is experienced with Pokemon, however... could work. I should use that."

That's when a fresh idea popped into Rosa's head. Fantina was about to become a useful asset to her. It's true. Everypony back at Magehold were absolutely inexperienced with Pokemon, slowly learning the ropes. But with someone like Fantina, that could change.

Rosa could see it now. Under her reign, Rosa could tutor them all. Especially the younger ponies. It would be just like those horrific teachings that they would do to the foals and unlock their hidden magic. But this time it would be less aggressive. However, cruel intentions were still behind it all.

And the only way to have Fantina comply was by having her under control. The Lich Queen Rosa Maledicta now had a bigger reason to take Fantina for herself.

Mount Coronet.

Back at Mount Coronet, Scootaloo and Quilava were trapped. The thorns had cradled them, cornering the duo at every corner while constructing them. It was a rough spot for them in every way.

Scootaloo had lost Rapidash's Poke Ball along with the saddlebag containing the rest of her Pokemon. Now with nothing to help herself out of this, she and Quilava were unable to do anything that would help them. Quilava kept exuding fire from his body but the thorns had grown to gain a resistance to the flames.

"Q-Quilava...!"

"It's no good, Quilava." Scootaloo sighed as she was already admitting defeat at this point. "These thorns won't burn anymore. This blows..."

"Lava..."

"I just wanted to see if I could get that magic from Mount Coronet. To see if you would become a new kind of Typhlosion later on. But I don't think I'll get to see it now." Scootaloo was regretting how this all turned out. Something that turned into a fun exploration soon became a hostile attack.

"Quilava." Quilava was especially saddened by this. Much like the rest of his teammates, making Scootaloo proud was the greatest goal he could achieve. But that wasn't the case now or potentially ever. He wished he was stronger. Strong enough to break these thorns once more. But alas, the adaptation skills of these thorns crushed those wishes.

Quilava wasn't one to give up, however. Much like the fire within his body, his determination burned brightly. There has to be a way out of this. But his flames wouldn't do a thing. He could emanate them sure, but the thorns still wouldn't burn.

Superior strength wasn't everything in all scenarios. And for this scenario, Quilava needed to do something with his flames. His greatest source of power. Right now, he thought about the mountain. He already learned about how the Cyndaquil from the past would live here and let the magical power from Mount Coronet flow into them, eventually giving them the power to become Hisuian Typhlosion. But there was one difference now.

Quilava had already gone past Cyndaquil. He was in the middle of his evolution line. But he was of the same species. And being that he was of the same species that would soon become Hisuian Typhlosion, Quilava wanted to try something that probably might've never been done before.

He would try and be the first Quilava to inherit this magic for the first time.

"Quilava..." Quilava closed his eyes, trying to see what he could find. There had to be something the Cyndaquil of the past could feel that let them become Hisuian Typhlosion. He stopped fighting back against the thorns since it was pointless at this rate. He only stayed silent, much like Scootaloo.

And that's when he heard something.

Familiar voices spoke out to him that made Quilava open his eyes. He knew these voices very well. Mainly because he used to emanate the same voice. The voice of Cyndaquil. Quilava heard voices coming from the mountain, but they didn't echo to the point where even Scootaloo could hear them. Only he could hear them.

Voices of Cyndaquil were speaking to him from the mountain, connecting with their second stage evolution. Quilava took these voices in as they had a sort of spectral feeling to them. Quilava then saw something once more that only he had the privilege of witnessing.

Small purple fire orbs were floating nearby, phasing through the thorns as Quilava was so focused that he could witness this for himself. These orbs also let out the Cyndaquil sound. As if they were Cyndaquil. He could hear what they were saying to him. One of them was to not give up. Not like this.

The voices of Cyndaquil spoke out to Quilava, encouraging him to continue. Quilava already knew this and it's what he was trying to do for a while. But now he had support from these orbs. And these orbs were proof that a mystical energy resided within the mountain.

Quilava had a greater drive to succeed now. Hisuian Tyyphlosion was waiting to return to the modern day. Quilava got to thinking. He tried looking for the best way to break free. That's when he saw something. His flames could still expand, albeit, unable to affect the thorns. So improvisation was needed.

The top of this level might be the key and so was the rage that the Quilava species possesses. When their rage reaches a certain point, there's nothing they can't burn down. For that one scenario, the Quilava species receive the greatest flames in existence.

"Quilava...!" And right now, Quilava was feeling that rage. He expelled his flames with a grand destructive force, causing it t to expand as a pillar. At that moment, he forgot about Flamewheel and instead, learned a new move.

Eruption.

A gigantic pillar of fire shot into the air, blazing through the thorns and hitting the top of this level. Not only that, but the flames were potent enough to crack the ground. The thorns were shocked to find out that Quilava's flames reached a point where they could burn them once more. Their adaptability had been overwritten for this one instance as the ground below was breaking apart and so was the top of the level.

The thorns had been incinerated, releasing Quilava and Scootaloo. Scootaloo gasped after she was freed, surprised that Quilava's flames were that successful. The pillar of fire kept going after breaking through this level, continuously shooting upwards to the point where it almost reached the top of the mountain.

"Quilava! Awesome!" Scootaloo's eyes lit up after seeing this explosion of fire go off. It was powerful enough to do the trick. However, perhaps it was a bit too powerful as the ground below them had been destroyed thanks to Quilava's Eruption. Now, they were bound to fall as the rocks from above were also dropping. "Oh."

Scootaloo blinked before falling with Quilava. She screamed at the top of her lungs as the thorns would end up losing sight of these two due to the number of large rocks dropping from above. Quilava took a massive risk and it may cost them. But Quilava was glad that he made this breakthrough and this could be a sign that the magic was already entering him. However, he might not see his evolution again since they were both falling from a high height.

"Charizard!" That is until someone came swooping in. Charizard did. The Flame Pokemon arrived with Galaxy Master, Pikachu and Apple Bloom on his back. The Fire-Flying-Type made it in time catching Scootaloo and Quilava with his claws before they could hit the next ground or even be crushed by the rocks.

"Ah! Charizard?!" Scootaloo exclaimed.

"Onward, Charizard!" Galaxy Master pointed ahead with Charizard using his brute strength alone to charge through the rocks. Despite being a Fire-Flying-Type, he could barely feel the rocks dropping on him. And right now, the thorns were pursuing him but thanks to all the rocks dropping from above, the thorns had to slither in various directions to try and reach them.

"You doing okay you two?" Apple Bloom asked once as Charizard put them both on his back, fleeing from the thorns.

"Y-Yeah. We're fine." Scootaloo nodded in confirmation. "Thanks for the save Charizard. Pikachu. And...wait." Much like Apple Bloom, she soon recognized this familiar figure from his cape t his helmet. His entire outfit, really. "You're him!"

"I'm him! A fl-"

"You already did your intro, mister. Now's not the best time for it." Apple Bloom interrupted him before he could make another intro speech.

"Right. Let's save the rest of your friends, my little ponies. Go, Charizard!" Galaxy Master said before having Charizard accelerate. The thorns did what they could to try and reach them. And thanks to their adaptability, they managed to do so as some large thorns appeared in front of the group, planning to block Charizard's path.

But Galaxy Master had an answer for that. He emanated that golden light once more, touching Charizard's body. Charizard was enveloped in that same mystical light as well as it granted him protection. Not only did it do so, but he used it to burn through the thorns. His flames were also enveloped in this mystical light, affecting the thorns and going through their adaptability.

The thorns could see that their adaptability was receiving some strong counters. Mainly thanks to Galaxy Master and now the pure rage of Quilava's flames that were strong enough to keep up with them. They had to adapt again. They had to find a new way to come out on top.

The thorns regrouped. A large majority of them did, mainly from the outside. They came together, using their collective sentience to form something new. That light that Galaxy Master possessed most likely couldn't be adapted enough to resist. Something about it was too powerful. But what they would do is grow into something that was strong enough to hold its own.

And if not, retreating was the answer.

Whatever they were turning into, they wanted to make sure that Galaxy Master and Quilava especially would receive the brunt of it. Now the thorns were feeling vengeful instead of playful.

And all the while, the nearly unconscious Quilava had to wonder about those orbs that spoke to him with the voice of Cyndaquil. Was that a sign of things to come?

As the journey continues.
