Evolution

Celestia's Room, Night.

It's been a long day as usual for Princess Celestia and she's ready to sleep finally. Luna will handle everything else at night while she rests her worries away. Passion sleeps with her too, preferably inside of her mane. Celestia hasn't felt so much rest in her life before. Ever since the two worlds crossed over and the inclusion of humans and Pokemon, everything had seemed to become 10x more disruptive. But with the existence of Ash and Pikachu and other Pokemon, most of her troubles have vanished.

Come the day and she was up to raise the sun whilst Luna took a break until nightfall would arrive.

"Ah. Morning Passion."

"Ralts!"

"Today, we'll be seeing one of Hollow's classes. I'm quite excited. Learning more about Pokemon as a whole. It'll help me connect with you more, don't you think?"

"Ralts!"

"Come on, now."

Passion today had felt something odd about her. It wasn't anything bad, but it was something that she had never felt before. Although this mysterious feeling is pretty common to other Pokemon. She just hasn't experienced it yet.

At Hollow's Class.

"Alright! Today, it's about Evolution!" Hollow exclaimed.

"Evolution?!" The whole class said.

"That's right. The further step for a Pokemon." Hollow had pulled out a chart of Pokemon Evolutions. "Some Pokemon have one evolution while others have two and others can't evolve. There are hundreds of examples of evolution. We're gonna learn about all of them today."

Celestia walked in, seeing the chart.

"Evolution? I need to know about this."

"Princess Celestia!" The students all said.

"Oh, hello princess. I'm about to teach the young ones about Pokemon Evolution. We're gonna head out to see some Pokemon evolve."

"Outside? Why not indoors, Mr Hollow?" A student asked.

"Well, some Pokemon evolve faster in daylight. Specifically grass and bug types. You'll see. I can guarantee that the Pokemon House might have some Pokemon that will evolve very soon."

"Well come on! I wanna see some Pokemon evolve already!" Sunrise said.

"Alright, alright. Let's get a move on."

Pokemon House.

"There's only one way we settle this." Ash said as he and Applejack were staring each other down. Twilight and the others were watching with their eyes fixated on what was about to happen.

"Oh yeah. I know." AJ responded. Pinkie Pie gulped as the wind around them blew silently but with great ferocity with it.

"Wrassle!" Ash and Applejack sat down on chairs with their arm and hoof on a table. They locked hand and hoof, ready to wrestle.

"Go!" Brock shouted, letting the wrassle begin. The human and the earth pony were battling it out with every bone in their body. The Pokemon and the girls were cheering to see who'd come out on top. Ash was managing to match strength with Applejack all of ponies. All that lifting from his past journeys came in handy.

"Heh. You struggling, Ash?"

"Kh! You wish!" They were both having banter as the table was shaking. Both of their hats flew off, landing on a Kecleon and a Furret. It looked like Ash's hand was leaning back as AJ was starting to gain the upper hoof. They were both grunting as the school and Celestia had arrived to see this wrestle go on.

"Are they having a hoof wrassle now?" Celestia said.

"They seem to be pretty focused." Hollow replied.

"Sshh! Let them fight." Pinkie said quietly.

Ash started to push Applejack's hoof back as the table broke apart.

"Times up!" Brock exclaimed. The two of them let go as they moved away.

"Phew. Guess none of us are having that last Malasada."

"Yeah. You're pretty tough Ash. When'd you get that much strength for your a fella of your stature?"

"I've lifted some heavy things in my life." He was referring to him lifting Pokemon that weigh around 72kg or more.

"Well, I reckon you'd be able to do the same amount of work as Big Mac."

"Thanks. Oh, I almost forgot. I wanna show you all my new Pokemon I caught yesterday. Come on out!" Ash tossed his Pokeball up, sending out his second Pokemon, Gengar.

"Gen..Gar!"

"What in Equestria is that?!" They all said as the students were terrified of its look. Rainbow Dash pulled her dex out to see.

"Gengar. The Shadow Pokemon. The sudden onset of an unexplained chill might mean a Gengar is coming toward you. This Pokemon seems to have misunderstood the concept of 'making friends'. It tries to create a kindred spirit by attacking humans."

Rainbow Dash gulped as the young ones hid behind Celestia and Hollow.

"Ash? Why did you catch THAT?!" Twilight asked.

"Oh come on. Gengar's super friendly. It's just that Ghost-Types are the more mischievous types. But they're nice deep down."

"Gen-gar-gar." The Shadow Pokemon laughed.

"That thing's got some freaky eyes..." Sunrise quietly said.

"Don't freak out kids. Besides, there are much more creepy Pokemon out there." Hollow walked forward, casually standing next to Gengar. "But let's not get sidetracked. We're here to learn about Evolution."

"Evolution?" Twilight asked.

"Oh yeah. I can teach some of you if you want."

"I think I remember Brock explaining something about evolution. Wasn't it about the Hattrem and Ralts?" Fluttershy pondered.

"Yeah, I did." Brock nodded his head.

"Now. Most Pokemon evolve due to how much stronger they get. For example, my Delphox." Hollow sent out his Delphox to the class. "Delphox here started out as a small little Fennekin. But as she got stronger, she then evolved into a Braxien, and finally, she's the Pokemon you see today. Her final evolution, Delphox."

"Oooh." The students said.

"Heh. So just make em stronger and they'll evolve. Easy." Sunrise said.

"Not really. Most Pokemon yes, but some Pokemon are a bit more tricky to evolve."

"How so?" Celestia asked.

"Let me think of an explanation. Ash? Your Pikachu."

"Oh yeah. My buddy Pikachu has one final evolution. He evolves into a Raichu, but it can only be used with a Thunder Stone."

"Ooh. How come he isn't evolved yet then?" A young earth pony asked.

"Well, Pikachu likes being the way he is. And I like him as he is too. So we both agreed to never use the Thunder Stone."

"As you can see, you'll need specific methods and items for evolving Pokemon. The biggest example are Eevee's."

"Eevee's?"

"Mhm. The Evolution Pokemon. Its genetic structure is irregular. It can evolve into eight different Pokemon."

"Eight?!" Pinkie Pie shouted.

"Yes. Most of them require stones. Some require rocks and one requires affection to evolve. So basically, they're all unique in their own way."

"That's interesting. Its genetic structure is different from other Pokemon." Twilight was taking notes.

"Um, Mr Hollow. You said that some Pokemon don't evolve.

"Yeah, I did. Some Pokemon are kinda stuck the way they are. But sometimes, that's not the case."

"It's not?" The students all said.

"Nope. Regional variants of Pokemon who can't evolve gain that ability. Like Farfetch'd and Corsola."

"Wow. Pokemon really are amazing aren't they!" A student said.

"Yeah, they are! They're the best!" Ash exclaimed.

"So when are we gonna see some Pokemon evolve already? I wanna see what evolution looks like?" Sunrise was getting impatient, wanting to see an evolution.

"I can give you a small description of how it looks." Ash said.

"Really?"

"Yeah. Well first, the Pokemon starts to feel the flow of energy inside of them and all of a sudden they go FWAH! And then a FWOOSH! And finally a BAM! Right Pikachu?"

Pikachu had a weird face after listening to Ash's... unique description of how Pokemon evolution looks.

"Oh! I know! Princess Celestia."

"Yes, Ash?"

"Your Ralts. It can evolve further at any moment, ya know."

"Passion can evolve at any moment?" Celestia looked down at her Pokemon.

"What's it even gonna look like?" Rainbow Dash said.

"Well, its evolution resembles that of a dancer. More specifically a ballerina." Brock explained.

"So, when's it gonna evolve?" Sunrise Sprint asked.

"I wonder myself. Passion? Can you evolve now?"

Passion decided to try it. She dug deeper, tapping into her inner energy. She was thinking of evolving as everypony stared carefully, ready to see if it would happen. But nothing happened. Passion wasn't ready to stop as she dug deeper once more. And then, a blue flash engulfed her. That strange feeling she felt earlier today was kicking in. This sensation was nothing more than just a Pokemon feeling itself morph into its next stage.

"Oh my!" Rarity exclaimed.

This blue light surrounded her as she began to grow in size a small bit. Her height increased along with her body shape. Then, a bright flash occurred. This was the first case of evolution.

"Oooooh.." All the students and Mane 6 said, gawking. The light faded as the second stage evolution of Ralts was here.

Kirlia.

"Amazing... Passion. You're completely different!" Celestia said.

"So THAT'S evolution? So cool!" A pony said.

"It was so dazzling!" Rarity followed.

"And so fast too!" Fluttershy finished.

"What does the dex have to say about this one." Rainbow pulled out her dex.

"Kirlia. The Emotion Pokemon. A Kirlia whose trainer has a positive attitude develops a shining beauty. When this Pokemon uses its psychic powers, it is able to distort the space around it and see into the future."

"See into the future?" A young unicorn said.

"Distort space?" Twilight followed.

"Looks like you and Ralts were super close, so it evolved due to how much your bond seemed to grow." Ash said to Celestia.

"It appears so. Congratulations Passion. It feels like I'm seeing my own child grow."

"Kirlia." Passion had a different personality now. No longer was she the shy scaredy-cat. Now she was a bit more confident and somewhat brave.

"Incredible. So what Pokemon can't evolve?" Twilight asked.

"Well... most Legendaries can't evolve, or most Mythicals. But some are much more common than you think? Like Salandit Male Salandit's can't evolve but females can and into Salazzle. And some Pokemon like Sneasel only evolve at night with a special item." Hollow explained.

"Urgh! All this is hurting my head..." Sunrise couldn't take all the information. Having to remember all of that sounded like torture.

"Alright, kids. Send out your Pokemon that you caught at our first lesson, and we'll see some of them evolve." The students sent out their Pokemon out. Each of them first stage evolutions.

"I wonder what my Sandshrew's gonna evolve into?"

"I bet my Hoppip's gonna be super cute when it evolves!"

"My Sunkern is just a seed." The students were all chatting away.

"We'll see if some of them evolve with a Pokemon Battle. Some of the kids got excited when they heard that. They wanted to try their hoof at Pokemon battling. "Each of you choose who you want to battle. We'll make this short and simple. Most of these Pokemon can evolve pretty fast."

"Okay, Mr Hollow!" The students all said.

"Hm?" Hollow had noticed that Dew Drops was hiding once more. Her timid shyness was very prominent. "Oh, Dew Drops. Are you still too shy to involve yourself in-class activities?"

"Mhm.." She nodded her head.

"Ah. How are we gonna do this...?"

"Don't worry, Hollow. I can handle this." Fluttershy fluttered over to Dew Drops. She knew how to handle a pony like this as she was like this before. "Hello, Dew Drops. Are you shy because of being around so many ponies?"

"Mmm.." She nodded.

"It's okay. I was just like you when I was young. Here, you can be with me in the meantime. I can be a fellow classmate." Fluttershy extended her hoof to the little filly. Dew Drops extended her hoof gently to meet with Fluttershy's.

"Okay.."

The students were already having their battle. Due to how small scale their Pokemon were the battles weren't as chaotic, fast-paced and destructive as the ones Ash goes through.

"I wonder if there is more to Pokemon that just battling?" Rarity said watching this go down.

"Oh, yes there is. When Princess Celestia and Luna went to visit the Pokemon World we went to see something known as a Pokemon Contest." Twilight replied.

"Pokemon Contest?" The other girls asked.

"Mhm. They're sort of a talent show in a way. Pokemon use their moves to perform beautiful tricks to dazzle the audience."

"Indeed they are. I enjoyed them ever so. That's when I met Passion." Celestia said.

"Kirlia."

"So there is more to battling? Oooh." Pinkie replied.

"By the way, Ash. I wanna ask you something." Rainbow Dash said to Ash.

"What's up?"

"Well, it's about what happened back at my second gym battle. When I was battling with Rufflet, I felt this weird thing go through me."

Ash knew what she was talking about since he saw a flash of it.

"I know what it is. The Bond Phenomenon."

"The Bond Phenomenon?" Celestia, Spike and the Mane 6 said in unison.

"Go on." Twilight was ready to note this all down.

"How do I describe it. It's when the connection between a trainer and their Pokemon is full of determination to win. My Greninja and I have perfected it and when we link, we become Ash-Greninja."

"Oh! That thing we saw back at the Royal Wedding?" Spike remembered Ash-Greninja being at Canterlot when the Changeling attack happened.

"Yep. So far, I only know of one Pokemon who can do it and that's Greninja. But now I know another Pokemon that can do it. You and your Rufflet, Rainbow."

"Really? Me and Rufflet can use it?! When?! Show me!"

"Uhh.. you gotta evolve Rufflet first. I did see it as a Braviary back there. Its second and final evolution."

"Then it's settled. Ash Ketchum! Battle me!" Dashie declared.

"Huh?! Rainbow! You'll get trampled!" Twilight cried.

"Don't worry, Twilight. Me and Pikachu are not ones to turn down a challenge."

"Pika!"

"Great! I wanna gain this Bond Phenomenon Asap! Go! Rufflet!" Rainbow sent out Rufflet who was up and ready.

"I'll be the referee if you don't mind." Brock said.

"Alright, Rufflet! We're gonna go further beyond and achieve new heights!"

"Ruff!"

"I'm not sure you're ready to handle this, Rainbow Dash. But who am I to say no? Pikachu. Let's go." Pikachu hopped off Ash's soldier ready to go.

"Battle start!"

"Rufflet! Wing Attack!" Rufflet charged in with its wings glowing.

"Pikachu, Iron Tail!" Pikachu countered with Iron Tail as it clashed with Wing Attack. Pikachu easily pushed back Rufflet with its overwhelming strength, no problem.

"Rufflet! Aerial Ace!"

"Quick Attack!" Two moves that had lightning-fast speeds behind them. Pikachu's head clashed with Rufflet's talons as he was knocked back once more by the Electric Mouse Pokemon.

"It's not too late to quit Rainbow!" Twilight yelled.

"I got this! Rufflet! Keep using Aerial Ace!"

"Pikachu. Keep your eyes focused." Rufflet dashed forward as Pikachu just stood there. The Eaglet Pokemon went to attack but Pikachu jumped over it. It flew back for another but the Electric Mouse kept on avoiding the Aerial Ace, a move that was almost impossible to dodge.

"How's he dodging every single one of them?!"

"Now! Thunderbolt!" And with a single Thunderbolt struck onto Rufflet, making it faint.

"Rufflet is unable to battle! Pikachu wins! And the winner is Ash!"

"I told you!"

"I didn't feel that same rush before. I thought the Bond Phenomenon was gonna kick in there..." Rainbow Dash sighed as she picked Rufflet up.

"It's hard to describe. You can only really feel that rush if you really wanna win against an opponent who's above you. That sensation can only happen if Rufflet's determination is at the max. A trainer and a Pokemon must always be in sync." Ash explained.

"Determination huh?" Rainbow Dash looked at Rufflet for a bit.

"Once again, you have managed to teach a valuable lesson to everypony else, Ash." Celestia walked to him. "Teaching Rainbow Dash the value of bonding with your Pokemon and how she has to learn how to reach this Bond Phenomenon with the love she shares with her Pokemon is truly great advice."

"Oh gee thanks, Celestia."

"Now I can't stay around for too long. I have places to be. But I enjoyed myself. And I got to see my Passion evolve today."

"Just you wait until it reaches its final evolution!"

"I will, Ash."

As for the students, some of their Pokemon had managed to evolve to their second stages. Fluttershy had helped Dew Drops by helping her Pokemon, Wooper. It didn't evolve but she got to bond with it a bit more.

Time had come to return back to Canterlot as the day was nearing its end.

"Well. Today was another long day." Ash stretched.

"Mhm." Pinkie nodded.

"Say, Hollow."

"Yes, Ash?"

"Someday, I wanna have a battle with you, if you don't mind."

"Pikachu!"

"I'd be up for it Ash. You can battle me anytime."

"Sweet! I can't wait!"

Back at Canterlot Castle, Celestia was ready to clock out for the night once more. But something was awry. Passion had looked out the door, sensing something was off. What she saw was some sort of black vine.

"Kirlia?" The black vine returned back into the ground. Kirlia knew something was not right. Vines don't just grow from the floor like that. The Emotion Pokemon closed the door as she went back to sleep with her trainer.

This mysterious black vine was growing. Ever so slowly. And it was coming from the Everfree Forest.
