Back to their roots

Universe 11. The Solar Empire. Canterlot. Daybreaker's throne room. Day.

Daybreaker's throne room. Vastly different from every other throne room for multiple Equestria's. Personally catered to Daybreaker's design and how she likes it.

Narrow braziers enclosing each of the sixteen obsidian columns light up every part of the throne hall and engulf everything in a flickering golden radiance, complimented by the shine of the Sun. The countless gems on the domed ceiling dance in the flickering light while carved images and statuettes look down upon the grey marble floor of this glorious hall.

A carmine rug runs from the throne to the doors and is matched by smaller ones on either side of the hall while pennant banners with golden plumes cover parts of the walls. Between each banner hangs a torch, almost all of them have been lit and in turn illuminate the mosaics of Daybreaker below them.

High, stained glass windows with symmetric designs are shrouded by curtains coloured the same carmine as the banners. The curtains have been adorned with fine patterns and embellished borders with the symbol of the Sun.

And nothing but the Sun.

A lavish throne of gold sits amidst two large Daybreaker statues and was adjoined by five similar, but smaller seats for those aiding the blazing royal highness in all affairs.

Those waiting to be heard by their royal highness could do so on the many extravagant and comfortable marble benches, all of which are facing the throne in a half-circle. Those of higher standing can instead take seats in the ceremonial balustrades overlooking the throne.

And here within the throne room were two dangerous individuals were in the same room as another dangerous individual. Daybreaker obviously lived here, but joining her were Ghetsis and Empress Twilight. And both of them were not happy.

They were currently staying here at Daybreaker's world due to Daybreaker bringing them here herself. They were here due to major losses. Empress Twilight lost last month while Ghetsis lost nearly 2 weeks ago.

Empress Twilight was currently in a healing machine after being hit by some hard Pokemon attacks. First the eyepatch she gained during the invasion and now this. Daybreaker's world had other methods of healing than just magic. Ghetsis wasn't as harmed even though he had been hit by Pokemon attacks himself.

Twilight got the worst of it by far, especially being hit with 100,000 volts of electricity at full force among with other Pokemon moves. Daybreaker currently moved back and forth while Ghetsis and Empress Twilight sat there, sulking.

"Well, you all seem glum as always." Daybreaker teased. "Still so sour about your losses, aren't you?"

"Don't provoke me, Daybreaker..." Empress Twilight said while speaking through the machine. Her voice sounded a bit weak.

"Bah, you and I both know you're in no condition right now to threaten me." Daybreaker went up to the machine. "I could push this thing over and that would be the end of your story."

"Tch." The Empress scoffed as she knew it was true.

"But no, no. That would be too harsh." Daybreaker then turned around, using her magic to summon her throne. She then lazily sat on her throne before smirking. "Anyway, I brought you here to live up to my promises. Mostly to you, Ghetsis. I only brought you here Twilight since you're so harmed. But I can promise you something?"

"Like what?" Empress Twilight asked.

"First, tell me. What do you two want? Be honest with me, if you will." Daybreaker questioned. Ghetsis and Empress Twilight then looked at each other before thinking of the same thing.

And as soon as they were ready to speak, Daybreaker cut them off by saying what they were already going to say. She read them like a book. "You want more power." She said. "I've heard it all before. And maybe some revenge sprinkled in there.

"Of course we do!" Ghetsis and Empress Twilight exclaimed.

"But it's no use. Even after all I've learned and done, how could I have still lost?" Ghetsis growled feeling frustrated by his current losses. "Was my self-journey pointless?"

"And my plans have been sabotaged just like that." The Empress grunted. "I should have everything under the control of my hoof if it wasn't for those stupid Pokemon...!"

"That's your main problem." Daybreaker. "Not the Pokemon. But how you two are right now."

"What?" They both said.

"You two have lost it. Maybe not your minds but everything else." Daybreaker hopped off her throne. "If what you're doing keeps up, you'll end up becoming shadows of your former selves. No longer being the great figures you were once. Ghetsis. I heard some things about you from Colress. Years ago and even during the earlier parts of last year, you were an amazing ruler and a force to reckoned with. Had your own castle too, didn't you? Team Plasma looked up to you and followed your ideals and truths through and through for years.

"...." Ghetsis looked to the side.

"Not so much as of now. You've become the exact opposite of what Colress saw you as." Daybreaker circled around Ghetsis, making him think. "You still carry that vicious disposition, yes. But you've forgotten what made you so great in the first place. And you especially forgot that you can't do everything on your own. You're not indestructible."

"Curses..." All Ghetsis could say. He knew that Daybreaker was right. He's far beyond what he used to be now back then. Not for better but mostly for worse.

"And as for you, Twilight. You're still young." Daybreaker shrugged. "You have a lot to learn. We may be from separate universes, but I am still Princess Celestia and your teacher. And I never taught you to be so greedy, didn't I? Even the Celestia of your universe can vouch for that."

I-I'm not-" She stuttered after Daybreaker's words.

"You have a lot more to learn, even as a full-grown alicorn. Plus, I know you. You had once gotten over your constant fear of frustration and worry ever since you grew up. I would've thought that issue died out a long time. What happened?"

"It's not my fault..." The Empress closed her eyes, growling as she tried making excuses.

"But you don't have to worry about that, Twilight. I can still be your teacher even from a different world. And I can teach you and Ghetsis both what it truly means to gain power."

Daybreaker then spread her wings out as the sun shined through the windows, beaming down on her while also slightly touching Ghetsis and Empress Twilight. "You've lost and forgotten what made you two so great. But I can help you. Help you get back to your roots. And we can start by properly working as a team. No solo acts here. Team Plasma has already agreed to that as they'll be residing in this universe for the time being."

"And how are you so sure this'll work?" Ghetsis asked.

"I used to be just like you two. Mainly you, Ghetsis. I thought I didn't need anypony once I cast aside my visage of Celestia and became Daybreaker. But, after a...less than pleasant encounter, I realized that there is a multitude of things no one can do alone, no matter how powerful they may be. I regretted it at first but came to accept it. When working together, you can create phenomenons that are unmatched. Even surpassing that of the Magic of Friendship. Believe me, I know."

Ghetsis and Empress Twilight then paused as they heard all they needed to hear. Daybreaker raised too many good points to rebuttal or counteract. Ghetsis had already accepted himself and Team Plasma to work alongside her after his body swap failure, but now he had a larger reason to do so. And the Empress, while still so dependent on herself, had no choice but to accept this new form of teamwork that she's never had with Daybreaker even with her alliance.

"Fine. We'll do it." said the Empress.

"Excellent." Daybreaker nodded. "Now, let's get down to business. There's a lot we have to do. How about we have our first team outing together?"

"Such as...?" Ghetsis asked.

"If you weren't aware, Celestia has sent Reshiram and Zekrom as her lapdogs to help free many universes from your control, Twilight. And they're doing an excellent job at it too. But lest we forget, I own parts of that as well. And we can't have these two Dragons ruin this any further. Our main goal for this is to seal off the remaining universes."

"Seal off?" Empress Twilight repeated. "Is that possible?"

"I saw Ghetsis do something similar when he interfered with the gateways. However, we'll make this one on a grander scale. I've dealt with planewalking before and I know that whatever seals them can be broken by another great force. Ash knows a thing or two about, doesn't he, Ghetsis?"

"Tch." Ghetsis scoffed, knowing that Ash broke one of his magic seals on the gateways with his Aura. And most definitely he will do the same with every other missing gateway.

"Each universe dabbles in Planewalking with certain ponies who can use the power of the Rift to move from place to place. That way, Reshiram and Zekrom can head to whichever universe they wish to end up in if they find the right pony. Or in some cases dragon. And with...what's her name again? Right, Pyrestar by their side, she can keep up this liberating streak. I also need to feed Necrozoma some light while I'm at it. Can't forget that."

"So how do you suggest we do it?" Ghetsis asked.

"Your scientist Colress and I had a discussion about that. Seems he's going above and beyond just simple spheres for travel. He and I had a talk, deciding to put our heads together to build something that works in tangent with magic, Rift Energy and even Aura. I call it the Supernova. But, you two are needed for said creation. Here's how it'll work so listen closely..."

Universe 46. Manehattan. Day.

Another universe ruled by Empress Twilight. And another universe that was finding itself at odds with Reshiram and Zekrom. The combined power of these Twin Dragons was stellar. So much so that the Empress' forces have not managed to even make these gigantic dragons fall.

And this current scenario was another sign of that. After arriving here with Pyrestar's forces as well, the Empress' forces were trying to defeat or at least hold back the Twin Dragons.

As for Pyrestar, she was helping those who were currently in hiding. There were those who strayed away from the Empress' rule but were severely outnumbered and unable to fight back. But with Reshiram and Zekrom, that chance was possible now.

"Pass-through here." Queen Pyrestar said to the ponies, showing them a way out. That way out was via a gateway. Due to the current chaos happening outside with Reshiram and Zekrom vs the Empress' forces, it was not safe to be here at the moment.

The gateway led to Pyrestar's universe, where they would be held safely until this universe was free. Many ponies that were in hiding or not had passed through the gateway made by Queen Pyrestar.

"Thank you so much um..." A pegasus looked at Pyrestar, trying to figure out who this was. Her face seemed vastly familiar to her. "Princess Celestia? Luna?"

"You're right about both of those. Quick." Pyrestar nodded as she was indeed the fusion of Celestia and Luna. So she was technically both. Saying either Celestia or Luna would not be wrong.

As everyone passed through, Pyrestar would have her part in dealing with all of the Empress' forces. And it involved the usage of gateways but with clever thinking. Her troops led the citizens through the portal as Pyrestar looked up, witnessing Reshiram and Zekrom take out another fleet of ships effortlessly.

"Good. Now, all we need to do is do the same for everywhere else." Pyrestar said before flying into the air. She went straight to Zekrom who had crushed many robots and other mechanical creations with either his tail or his bare claws until they were nothing but scraps of metal falling from above. "Zekrom! Now's a good time to do it."

"I was waiting for you to say that." said the Deep Black Pokemon before tossing aside a giant robot. He and Pyrestar had a plan that would give them another advantage.

"Reshiram. Protect the buildings from harm."

"Understood." The Vast White Pokemon nodded before ascending higher into the air It would be his duty to protect the buildings from whatever was coming next. And as he did so, he obliterated some of the Empress' creations by just the pressure of his flight.

The Fire-Dragon-Type then hovered above the buildings and all of Manehattan, using the largest Extrasensory so far and his body to cast a protective shield around all the buildings here. Once everything, apart from the Empress' forces had been shielded by Reshiram's protection, Pyrestar could go to work.

And that involved the usage of planewalking. Her eyes flashed blue with the colours of the Rift as she was tapping into the power of the Rift to open not one gateway, not two, but three. This would require a lot of focus as opening three gateways require a plethora of magic, even for a fused alicorn such as Pyrestar.

But that was where her troops came into play. Since they all had Alicorn Amulets due to her world currently being unicorn-populated, they transferred their magic over to Queen Pyrestar, giving her recommended strength to hang in there and utilize three gateways. Pyrestar took a deep breath before taking all of the magic in. Her body glowed a radiant and stunning cosmic light before her horn cast the spell.

From the front and both sides, she summoned three gateways, each leading to other universes where the Empress' control still remained. The gateways were surrounding her, Reshiram and Zekrom as Pyrestar grunted. "N-Now, you two!"

Reshiram extended the power of Extrasensory, causing it to move through all three gateways. He was certainly powerful enough to do so. The buildings from different universes on three sides were being protected by Reshiram's psychic hold. The Vast White Pokemon only protected the buildings on the other side with innocents within them.

Now it was time for Zekrom to act. He spread his arms out, placing both of them through each gateway and connecting to both worlds. And the cherry on top was him putting his gigantic tail at the third gateway behind him. After doing so, the Deep Black Pokemon used Fusion Bolt.

Zekrom's tail glowed light blue with electricity. Zekrom's body then became surrounded by a sphere of violet electricity, causing him to spread over 80,000,000 volts of electricity through each universe. And his main targets were the Empress' forces and their mechanical creations.

The bolts instantly connected with all electrical sources within each universe including the one Zekrom was currently in. Normally, an electric output of this magnitude that surpassed the might of a thunderstorm would cause catastrophic damage on a world-ending scale. But thanks to Reshiram's protection, this potential disaster had been negated. Innocents were protected, including even the Empress' troops surprisingly. It was all of their resources that were being touched by this. And since they all relied on technology with magic infuse in it, anything electrical was a big threat.

Zekrom's electric attack was so grand that it caused both an EMP and blackout for each universe, temporarily rendering every weapon that the Empress' forces had useless. Everything they had was overloaded with electrical combustion or shut down.

And once that was done, Pyrestar's troops had passed through the gateway to confront the Empress' troops on the other side. They had a major advantage, mainly with the Alicorn Amulets around them while the Empress' troops were lacking advantages now.

"Ugh...!" Pyrestar groaned as she almost fell to the ground, using so much magic to hold up three gateways. The gateways had closed with her troops passing through to the other worlds before they closed. Thankfully, Reshiram had caught her, saving her from going splat on the ground. "There. That should do the trick. But goodness...that is draining..."

"You did well, Queen Pyrestar. We've now dealt with most known universes that are under the Empress' control. I predict that we will need only 2 more weeks until all worlds are freed."

"That's nice..." She sighed. "We'll send the captured forces to confinement in different dungeons around our allied world. Honestly, we're grateful to have you and Zekrom assist us in all of this, Reshiram."

"My world was in peril by a dangerous force as well. It's my way and duty to help those who seek the truth. I lost a good trainer by the name of Hilbert that I bonded with by Ghetsis. The same went for Zekrom and a trainer named Hilda. If this were to continue, Ghetsis would dismantle the balance of every world, throwing it into chaos. We will help you and the others to prevent any more of this from happening."

"I'm sorry for the loss of your trainers. Both of you." She apologized on their behalf as Zekrom descended. "Wish there was a way to fix that. My own world at least has some reprieve with the restoration of pegasi and earth ponies."

"It's all in the past now. Best to leave it and move on. We as the Dragons of Truth and Ideals have to." Zekrom said. "Now, let's prepare for the next world."

They were ready to leave and prepare to help another universe later. But, Pyrestar needed some recovery after summoning three gateways. Today's mission was a success. The Empress' forces have been toppled in another world once more. This time three of them at the same time. Impressive. But that was to be expected from a Legendary Pokemon.

Universe 3. Pyrestar's World. Canterlot. Day.

Another day had arrived in Pyrestar's world. Many of the ponies here were less glum than ever as they knew that the seal Grogar made would eventually break. Soon, earth ponies and pegasi would return and many ponies would reunite with their family and friends. The only reason why the unicorns have lived for this long was because of the Alicorn Amulets given to them by Queen Pyrestar.

Pyrestar was currently ready to speak with Celestia and the other members of the Universal Alliance. Essentially herself but in different variations. Yet they all looked uncanny minus Pyrestar who was a fusion of Celestia and Luna. She was the only one with an alternate appearance from her parallel selves.

"Just a bit more." Pyrestar looked outside the window of her castle to see the view of verdant grass. Something that has not been seen in her world for centuries. But now, that was returning after this long drought. "A bit more and everything will be back to normal. Isn't that right, Philomena?"

Philomena, Celestia's pet phoenix agreed. She was still around and that made sense. She was a phoenix after all. Time is practically pointless against this eternal bird that resurrects at times. She's stuck by Pyrestar, who was part Celestia, for these many years.

"Perhaps when they all return, I can throw them all a surprise party." She started talking to herself. "I mean, Pinkie Pie was sealed with them too so I can fill that role maybe. Hopefully. Do you think I can make a good one?" She then asked Philomena.

The phoenix simply shrugged, unsure of how to answer that. Pyrestar then sighed, sitting on her throne afterwards. "I'm thinking too much, aren't I? It's been so many years since I've seen them all. I know everypony else will be happy to see them all back. But it might be shocking for them to see me like this. I wonder when I'm going to defuse already..."

Pyrestar sat there, taking some time to catch her breath. But soon, she would have to head to other universes, teaming up with other-selves while also speaking to them But when she was about to do so, very soon, one of the guards came rushing into the throne room.

"Your majesty!" He cried out. "This is urgent!"

"Hm?!" Pyrestar sat up. "What happened?! What is it?!"

"It's the Sun and sky! Look!" The guard then instantly pointed out at the sky to show the queen exactly what was occurring. Pyrestar looked outside the window to see what was happening. It was a stellar sight that everypony could see.

The skies had been clouded by a blue and purple mist of cosmic aura. But more importantly, the sun was starting to tremble. A sight that is never seen. Many would think it was impossible for a star such as the Sun to start shaking. But it was happening right in front of their eyes. Of course, they looked away for a few moments as to not blind themselves.

The sun's trembling correlated to the cosmic aura in the sky. Pyrestar took a good look, realizing what this was. This was the sign of Rift energy at display from what she could see. The Sun was being clouded by these cosmic lights as Rift particles started flowing out.

Pyrestar quickly went outside to get a closer look, soaring into the skies. She readied herself for the worst to come. Pyrestar promised that no longer would she allow her world and subjects to suffer after the Grogar Incident. And with powerful new allies, she was confident even more.

Pyrestar was also prepared to manipulate the sun, just in case something went wrong. All residents remaining in Equestria looked to the skies, wondering why they were more cosmic than usual with various colours being shown. They also wondered why the Sun was trembling.

However, after a few seconds, the trembling stopped. Everything had simmered down with total silence drowning the air and atmosphere. But Pyrestar was still cautious. That rumbling and shift of skies were unlike anything she had seen before, meaning that something was amiss.

And she was right. Because moments after everything calmed down, she noticed that the Rift lights multiplied. Soon, the usual azure skies were coated and replaced with the colours of the rift. Blue and purple. They did look pretty but it was still too ominous and odd to trust. "What is happening?" Pyrestar wondered.

Unsure of what this all meant, she decided to try and contact the Universal Alliance to see what this was all about. Perhaps one of them knew what was the issue. However, the moment she went to use her magic to open a gateway, that's when the surprising happened.

Nothing happened actually.

Her Rift magic did not kick in. The semblance of Rift magic she had left had been blocked out. And she didn't need to try using the spell constantly to do so. Pyrestar was smart enough to know that it was being blocked. Se could still feel the Rift magic inside of her body, but something was preventing her from doing so.

And that something pointed to the skies themselves. "My Rift Magic...is it being blocked by these skies?!"

The cause of this phenomenon could only be trailed towards more than one individual. Pyrestar used the Rift magic to sense who else was using it. She closed her eyes, searching for possible candidates until she found more than.

Millions. No. Billions.

In a separate universe far beyond her reach, a massive machine of unknown proportions and magnitude. Daybreaker's ultimate weapon made by the collective minds of Colress and Daybreaker's best inventors.

The Supernova.

And right now, Ghetsis and Empress Twilight were assisting in making this happen. Over at Universe 11, to make the Supernova work, Rift Magic had to be transferred through. Only two. But these two had enough to make up for multiple of them.

They had their hand and hoof on the machine, giving it the necessary power. Colress was the one allowing the machine to focus on a specific area. In this case, the sky. Team Plasma grunts were filling the machine with Infinity Energy to boot. Many grunts had utilized as many Pokemon as they could.

"Are you sure this will work?" Empress Twilight asked Daybreaker. She wasn't fond of giving up her own magic for someone else, minus the Magical Unite since that worked in her favour. But this could as well.

"Oh, it is." Daybreaker winked before facing a direction where there was seemingly nobody there. "Isn't that right? Pyrestar?"

"!" Pyrestar gasped. Daybreaker had seen and felt her. Pyrestar did not expect Daybreaker to interact with her from this great distance. However, very soon, Pyrestar's focus on Universe 11 had blinked out of existence without her doing so.

These Rift Skies were blocking out her magic once more, forcing her to lose control. From what Pyrestar had experienced, this did not spell anything pleasant. But with the time she had to see what was ongoing in Universe 11, Queen Pyrestar knew that there was a machine responsible for this.

But, the main problem was trying to get in touch with Celestia and the other members of the Universal Alliance. But that would be difficult considering that her communication with her was being blocked. Pyrestar only had one choice fr this.

"If I can get rid of those Rift skies, I can eliminate the blockage." The only clear answer to this. Nothing else was sprouting into her mind. Pyrestar had a new goal. Eliminate the Rift Skies.

If she could.

Universe 11.

The Supernova powered down as Ghetsis and Empress Twilight moved their arm and hoof away, shuddering for a bit. This power share came at a painful cost.

Rift energy seeped from their bodies like a wound as sweat dripped down their forehead. They felt a dull pain, but it was surely numbed by the adrenaline pumping through their veins. They had never felt like this before even when gaining Rift Magic in them.

"I warned you two not to overdo it." Daybreaker shrugged. "The Supernova was made to be the perfect answer to the Rift after all."

"W-Whatever!" Ghetsis growled. "Let's take advantage of this situation and-"

"We're not going to do anything." Daybreaker cut him off as Ghetsis and Empress Twilight turned in shock.

"What?!" They both said.

"What do you we're not going to do anything?!" Empress Twilight approached Daybreaker. "What was the point of this giant weapon of yours then, eh?! Our share with it as well!"

"We're not going to do anything...yet." She finished her sentence. "I told you not to rush things, Twilight. What comes next takes time. Precious time. I made the Supernova just for that."

"Hmph." Empress Twilight scoffed, walking off.

"Just you wait. What we'll do next won't be too long. One thing's for sure, it'll be done before that intimidating Universe 1 can interfere and potentially stop us." Daybreaker smirked before having her eyes glow.

She had a master plan laid out. One that was only possible with time. Daybreaker certainly had the patience to make it happen. Not only that, but she vowed to assist Ghetsis and Empress Twilight in their difficult endeavours, bringing them back to their prime and absolute best.

The terrifying Daybreaker. A pony that Flurry Heart herself once said was far more dangerous than the Empress. And the weight behind that was prominent without a doubt as the journey continues.
