Okay, reading yesterday’s post I got this weird thought. Humans eat salt without problems, right? That has been shown on numerous occasions (including Karl accidentally dropping a salt dispenser in Omni’s soup, after which Omni said it was bland :) ).
However, it’s also mentioned that the grand 8 aren’t allowed to drink alcohol (including cider). Some of them do it anyway, but it’s shown that they should be. I can conclude as a result that humans are very susceptible to alcohol.
Based on that, if a pony were to go to earth (in pony form) she’d be able to outdrink a platoon of guards, but will start acting funny after a simple meal. Likewise, a human in Equestria might well get drunk at a foal’s party.
Has anyone used that in any story?
MixaMax
@MixaMax: Good point! We must experiment! Not that I touch the stuff (I find salt disgusting), but I’m definitely for finding a human and inviting her over.
And before Tech bans me, I think such stories (when done in a classy way O:) ) could be quite funny. I know I could use something of the sort. Maybe I should become human and get drunk as well?
Starting a rant.
NIGHTLINGS! Please, for the sake of all the stars, be original! I’m not asking much. Please no more tragic human girls that appear out of nowhere, but are dashingly beautiful and have magic powers to put the gods to shame. You want to live the fantasy, I get it, but please do so in a somewhat innovative way!
Take SocksKnots, for example. Everytime he manages to surprise me with something new. (Yes, he’s a he!) Granted that every story by him as a weird comedy that often doesn’t make sense, but I always have something to look forward to.
Now, I’m not going to reject any story for not being unoriginal, but seriously! Enough with the little lost girls!
Rant over.
RRBB
My darlings, while I definitely wouldn’t encourage excessive salt licking, I also wouldn't want to get an unfortunate poor humie drunk, although I’d be delighted to invite one to a party.
I’m admit I’m rather curious how they will behave. Maybe they have other strange habits that S.Child never wrote about? (That is, of course, assuming humans exist, but I wouldn’t call myself a Nightling if I thought otherwise.)
As for balancing the situation, there should be an alcoholic drink that has salt in it. That way both parties could enjoy the effects without any being more drunk than the other.
Grace
… Salty cider? Really? -.-
I’m on to you, sis! You can pretend all you want, but I’ll find proof that it’s you! And the idea sounds revolting!SweetStuff
@SweetStuff: I don’t know. Sounds fine to me. Maybe I should try it next time. :) Applejack has always been telling me a mare should be able to hold her salt, and with a bit of alcohol in it it should be even better.
WaterBottle
@WaterBottle: careful now. Let’s not overdo things.
I don’t see the big deal of either. I’ve had my share of alcohol and salt (mostly it’s been alcohol that’s gotten me). Unless you go too far there’s nothing to it. That said, I agree with the point make in MC that foals shouldn’t be experimenting with either. Not until they are old enough to know what they are doing.
(Yes, yes, I sound like an old mare.) Also, please don’t all start writing salt fics. It will probably be interesting the first few times, but the way trends go, I’d want to get drunk in a bar within a day.
LightSparkle
Hmm. Just letting you know an interesting statistic.
According to site analytics, there has been an increase of colts and stallions joining the site. (We actually have a ratio of 3 to 1!) However, most of them are lurking. And to be honest I could see why. Just look at the topics discussed (not counting the drama): (sexy) clothes, salt, alcohol, shipping… not exactly aimed at the target audience. While I agree that stallions are the greatest shippers there are (my coltfriend isn’t at all interested in MC, but already knows which are the best pairings, the most dominant OTPs and which pair would be more suitable than the next), there’s very little in terms of action.
Any chance we could see more of those topics?
HopHop
I drank a glass of salt! And I liked it! :P
Well, if you think there’s a shortage of active stallions I could ask my boss to join in. He's a total nerd in the best way possible :) Also, he's really into MC and the fanfics (except the taur stuff :P) I'm sure he'll be perfect for the site. Also, he's married to a princess, so if anypony tries anything weird things might happen :D
MightyDragon
@HopHop: not my fault that I have to fly my ass off every morning! I wish I could be more active!
And don't get me started about drinking. Stallions can drink just as much as mares. That's a fact! Same about salt. The only exception I know is AwesomePony, who can drink the whole wing under that table. For somepony so small, I have no idea where she puts it all. It definitely is impressive, though.
Now back to humans. Even if we take Max’s theory to be true, that doesn't say much. When I was a colt I wasn't allowed to lick salt either. I did, of course. I was young stupid and expected the whole world to change. Instead, I just got a bit talkative (and ended up on my first date, but that's another story).
What if it's the same with humans? Maybe they need a class to bet tipsy, but a few buckets to get drunk? Also, why are we discussing this again? The target audience is colts.
CEOWitch
@CEOWitch: oh, dear, I have a bottle of salt mixed alcohol wi your name written on it when you get home ;)
Brush
@Brush: really subtle :P
RRBB
@RRBB: Buck you up a mountain! :)
Brush
The
saltthread has been licked!Edit: always wanted to say that.
MightyDragon
@Grace: you're a genius! :)
LittleFinger
Margarita
I suppose "dry towns" have a much different meaning in a world with sodium-based intoxicants.
that reminds me of one weird story on here where ponies licked a human to get drunk because in our sweat is salt
Margaritas are nasty. Putting salt on the glass is just plain wrong.
And I could drink any of you whorses under the table any day of the week.
If the Nightlings want to attract more colts to start commenting on the site with action, I wish them the best. Who would win in a fight between members of the Great 8? What about the Gods? What about the Gods versus Alicorns, versus Discord or other monsters locked in Tartarus, etc.
Someone should warn CEOWitch, I think that devilish Brush is planning to take advantage of him!

I've had two different brands, neither of which with added salt. One was Cayman Jack, and the other, I forget what it was. I liked the CJ one, but not the other. Incidentally, the CJ one had lower alc. by vol.. Still, I keep it to a bottle a meal, and the bottles, while not the tiny size one stereotypically takes on an airplane ride (as a passenger), aren't very big.
SweetStuff's fat sister strikes again!
As You Know, @MightyDragon has been revealed to be Sunburst, so those who can make the connection can find the irony behind who he's talking about (especially since his sister is a big name on the site)
Well, looks like Brush is back in full force.
Salty cider just sounds gross.
if you want salt... just rekt angry gamers... you'll get all the salt you need.

Actually putting extra salt in alcohol is a cheap trick to get people to drink more alcohol. I would say it depends on how much is used an how the two go together. Considering the fact that Alcohol isn't labeled, it's possible that your Cider (Alcoholic or Virgin) could have some salt in it already.
Though can anyone confirm what happens to ponies IRL that have salt? Is it really like them getting drunk IRL???
