Mom, I’m worried about Dark. She’s gotten herself deep in trouble this time and I’m not sure she could get herself out of it.
Whatever she did when chasing the Windigo changed her. Five times she blubbered out about Earth on the site. Good thing she’s not the first so everyone thought she was roleplaying or something, but the way this is going someone will pick it up.
And somehow I think that’s the least of our troubles.
LightSparkle
I know. Just because I’m calm and reserved doesn’t mean I don’t see the danger. And I’m perfectly aware of what Twilight has done. I definitely don’t approve, but at this point there’s nothing we could do.
Yes, I want to make this very clear. You are not to do anything on the matter. Things are complicated as they are and if I were to share what I know they would become far more complicated.
Celestia
Here we go again :/ And here I naively thought things had changed.
Things are dangerously scary and each time you randomly keep secrets that could change everything. Come to think of it is there any danger you’d actively helped out with? I keep reading about all the stuff you did centuries ago... were they even true?
LightSparkle
Sunshine, I know you’re upset, but this isn’t going to resolve anything. I could tell you everything and more and it would only make you shut yourself in a cave for a few years.
At least trust me on this. I have tried and the results are always the same. Even with everything the girls have been through, you are still not prepared. Please think logically, as I taught you. How many things have happened in the last ten years? Dangers that would destroy Equestria pop up once per year sometimes even more often. Why do you think it’s been different in the past?
Celestia
Oh, really? Well, I know of a few instances, but you can’t make me believe that you’ve been secretly protecting Equestria all this time! I remember the calm when you raised me, or failed to do so. Who protected everything then?
LightSparkle
Cadence did. Trust me. In a few decades you’ll be ready to start learning more about the balance of things. But that is for another time.
I have gone through my old diaries and can’t find anything significant. Sadly, I must admit that a few things were destroyed during our disagreement with Luna. She’s tried to learn more from the dreamscape, but so far it hasn’t helped.
Celestia
Yes, she told me about it. :/ Apparently there are a few years missing, whatever that means. And Simile’s father wasn’t of any help either. (I swear he’s worse than you!) I never thought that sirens would be more helpful with this problem.
LightSparkle
I can’t say I approve of you spending so much time with them. Even if they have changed they still have... certain character flaws. And furthermore, I doubt they’d be much help on the matter. I suspect you’ve also attempted to talk to Discord?
Celestia
You quite confident about everything. And they are fine! You’re right about Discord. He just keeps going on about the Windigo begin own of those, and that Sombra had something to do with things... I really don’t know.
So little things make sense! If the Windigo was so powerful why doesn’t he just conquer Equestria? Why hasn’t he done so in the past? The only thing I managed to pry out of Twilight was that he “woke up” when Flurry Heart was born. He also claims that you were responsible for the death of his family. Actually no, that you know who was responsible.
Twilight doesn’t make much sense, but neither did the Windigo. Are you sure he isn’t one of the ancient enemies that you locked away somehow and forgot all about it? :/
LightSparkle
Sunny, despite what you think I don’t have legions of enemies. Chrysalis, for example, wasn’t an issue until recently. Actually that was something that Cadence was dealing with for a few decades. I still think the wedding made her put down her guard. No matter, she deserved finding a nice stallion to be with.
On that note, don’t worry about not finding anyone suitable, dear. You have lots of time. Don’t rush things and you’ll be happy. :)
Celestia
I’ve gotten used to you changing the topic constantly. And don’t bother shocking me. I’ve lived with guilt for years so you can’t say anything I haven’t thought of.
LightSparkle
I know. And I’m honestly sorry about that. I won’t pretend that I have a good reason to banish you. It was more a problem of me than anything you ever did. But I’m so glad we can talk like this now. You’re the second child I had and are very dear to me.
Celestia
Is it possible that the Windigo is another child you’d forgotten you had banished?
LightSparkle
*chuckle* Wouldn’t that be the best cliche to attack Equestria? No, it’s not. And Luna never had children because of her tastes. No, this is something completely new. Or old and forgotten.
Celestia
Do you think Sombra had anything to do with it? He caused some serious issues back in the day. The crystal ponies still trembled at his mention.
LightSparkle
Doubtful. Sombra was a cute stallion who slept his way to power then messed with something he couldn’t control. Not the first, I might add, but him being a unicorn made matters worse. I doubt he’s connected in any way.
Celestia
Next you’ll tell me you sent him to the Crystal Empire as an envoy or something. :/
LightSparkle
Lol. No :) He was born in the Crystal Empire. Well, rather in the outpost that became it. Because of the effects of the frozen north the original tribe lived underground. The caves everypony came to fear were initially the original city. It was called the Crystal Empire because they covered the cave walls.
Celestia
Wait! If he’s of the original tribe, where did the crystal ponies come from? They are entirely different from any of the other pony tribes.
LightSparkle
I’m so proud of you, sweetie. And also so sorry. :(
Celestia
?
LightSparkle
FORGET!
DELETE EVERYTHING UP TO THIS POINT!
Celestia
Hey, Sunny. I know you don’t like to be disturbed, but was wondering how you’re doing. Exams going fine?
Celestia
Yes, Mom... Exams are going fine, because that’s more important that a crazy indestructible Windigo!
I’m worried about Dark.
Were you able to find any information regarding it, by chance maybe?
LightSparkle
Sorry, sweetie. :( There’s not much I’ve found in my diaries, and Luna hasn’t managed to learn anything from the dreamscape.
Celestia
Yeah, Simile told me about that. :/ This makes so little sense! Argh!
LightSparkle
Don’t worry, I believe in you :) Just don’t do anything rash, okay? I care about you.
Celestia
I know. And I care about you, but this really has me worried. We’re working on something with True and Simile. I can’t say more, but I think it might be the key to our problem.
LightSparkle
So secretive :) You really are my daughter.
Celestia
Don’t remind me. As much s I hate myself for it, I think it’s better this way. And don’t try any spells on me! I’ve locked my mind.
LightSparkle
I won’t :) Take care, Sunny.
Celestia
Thanks for writing, Mom.
Later.
LightSparkle
Celestia shouldn't use spells to erase something from her daughter's memory I wouldn't be surprised is such spells have contributed to problems with the Windigo. There is a lot of mystery surrounding the Windigo but it seems that at least the loss of information is connected to something Sombra did.
Mom, you know you actually have to cast the spells, not just post their names in all-caps.
I'm not so sure the spell worked. Take a look at Light's message at the beginning of the "new conversation". It's exactly the same as the first. Even the strange typos. Now, it makes sense that after a brief mind wipe she'd compose a message essentially the same as she would have before (being of the same mindset) but it seems rather unlikely to me that she'd make the exact same typos again. What seems more probable to me, is that the spell failed and she purposefully rewrote the same message with letter-for-letter detail in order to convince Celestia that it succeeded.
Edit: Or possibly the author just wanted to save time and copy/pasted the earlier conversation, strange autocorrects and all.
That's kind of sad. All of Sunset's hangups and mistrust of her mother that she's just now getting over, and it turns out that Sunset was right and justified all along.
Before Celestia even messed with Sunset's memory, I was thinking that maybe Sunset should just break off all contact if Celestia's going to keep treating her like that.
Huh?
...sometimes she thinks?
O.o
...
Well, now that I know that spells can be cast through the aethernet...
👹
Who is this "Later." pony and how'd they take over Light's conversation?!
So they are the remnants of the original tribe that made up the Crystal Empire erased because Celestia did something. That's what I'm getting out of Celestia's spell to delete everything.
Yes, because memory spells have certainly served you well and are in no way part of the current problem you're facing.
I wonder how many horrors and dark corners Celestia has seen.
Now I'm suspicious that the crystal ponies are actually windigos, possibly sealed in that form by the Crystal Heart. The particularly nasty storm that kicked up when the Crystal Heart was shattered wasn't normal for the environment, it was due to their powers beginning to awaken. The Crystaling would then be a way of sealing a newborn windigo's power, binding them to the Crystal Heart and trapping them in pony form.
Damn Celestia that was fucked up, using Mind Control spell on your daughter like that!!
