well fuck me... reading this chapter as WIP almost killed me, think i read this in parts... cliffhanger by cliffhanger
Dame you Luna, this isn't good for my heart. the feelz... so much feelz
also the hope of Bucky avenging Lyra, but not at the price of cadance
Good god I almost had a heart attack
I didn't realise that i was holding my breath til i got to the author's note
It saved my life
I needed the reminder, damn!
whew!
Y'see, this is why I love and simultaneously hate reading stories this powerful. When I read, I like to actually, in a sense, become the main character. I love these kinds of stories because I actually feel what the character feels, or, if no description is given, what I envision the character feels. I hate stories like this because of chapters like this: my connection to the character causes me to feel unfathomable rage and, towards the end, grief, with no outward connection in our dimension to vent on or to. You're going to cause me to go seek therapy, kudz...keep up the good work
Luna is being quite the coont.
I understand the whole do not go down the path of revenge thing, but she is giving Bucky nothing.
Bucky needs peace of mind...she knows this.
If she at least could let him know that she has got ponies looking for this group, or at least something to let him know justice is being done.
Instead she just keeps telling him to essentially not worry about it.
I would understand her side of it more if she did not use Bucky to make others disappear, but when it comes to ponies he really would like to make disappear she tells him no.
Then when the obvious result of all this starts getting under Bucky's skin she starts messing with his already messed up mind?!
If she would just sit down and assure Bucky that she will put priority one on finding and torturing these ponies he would be more willing to listen. Instead she gives him nothing, and expects him to just sit on his hoofs ...because that's what Bucky is known for (sarcasm).
Bottom line Bucky is being an idiot, but that is what he does! we all know this and so does Luna!
Luna however has no excuse for behaving like a manipulative coont to Bucky after everything he has done for her and her sister. She should know better.
When Bucky ascended, I knew it was a dream... Pretty scary stuff, though...
No Typo joke! It's that impostor again! Panic, everyone!
Remind me never to piss Luna off. She's very good with that nightmare thing.
That reminder at the end is sorely needed... holy shite...

This is only the beginning of the Lyra arc.
The opener. It is nowhere near finished and will play out in the background as the story progresses.
Luna's actions will make sense.
Standing in
fulfill
"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you."
Bucky, to be perfectly honest with you. you may already be far to gone.
good thing you have those how love you enough to be anchors and to smack you into shape
I breathe shallowly anyways so I was able to endure this pretty well.

Is this all legitimate information, though? Have we now seen the Eldritch Abomination that, for lack of a better term, raped Lyra nearly into oblivion?
5910234
That would be telling.
Damn, just... DAMN! That was gut wrenching to read.
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.
... Which things did Bucky do to stain his soul?
More specifically, which things did Bucky do that Luna did not that stained his soul? I'm not coming up with much that she didn't do things just about as bad, like wiping people's memories en-masse. Or killing entire cities filled with anyone that happens to be there for world peace?
Don't get me wrong, Bucky cannot be allowed to fall this far. He cannot allow himself to be twisted by revenge, however... the story seems to be portraying Luna, who does all these awful things "in the name of justice" as 100% okay for them. Even though mortals that are doing things they think are just are all sent to Tartarus...

People with gross personal flaws can be quite relateable... but the problem is that the flaws of hypocrisy and self-righteousness do not feel like they are supposed to be flaws in the greater context of the story. In this story normally horrible actions are justified because they have been deemed necessary. This works against me believing that someone who commits those things and sounds like a self righteous hypocrite is supposed to be flawed for that. If the actions are perfectly justified, then the characters that do them are supposed to be justified in doing them, rather than flawed for their attitudes. So, it seems like, instead of these people being flawed people, I think that they're supposed to just be "the good guys" and that the text disagrees with me that they're flawed.
sweet mother Teresa bent over on the hood of a Mercedes bens that chapter will give me nightmares

Luna didn't make Bucky summon an imp and murder it. Luna didn't make Bucky channel dark magic through Dinky and corrupt her. Luna didn't make Bucky liquify a crown and make a griffon drink it. Luna didn't make Bucky walk into a griffon nursery and begin killing cubs.
Luna didn't make Bucky create rape bombs.
And Luna most certainly didn't make Bucky send Sunset Shimmer to fetch a package from Zecora.
Bucky is capable of fucking himself over quite well.. At least Luna has steered his destructiveness into something useful.
Edit: It was also Luna that saved Bucky's life... giving him the information needed to keep himself alive at a time when he needed it. Luna, while far from perfect, has steered Bucky away from rampant destruction.

Luna is one of the leaders of the world, and old as dirt. If she's going to be 'manipulative' as you put it, it's for a good reason. A reason that at least some part of Bucky would agree with. Also, Bucky being dumb is not something that is to be accepted, only prepared for - him rushing off to ply that stupidity of his could very well end the world. You don't go, "Oh, it's just Bucky being Bucky." He has to learn to rein himself in. That or he will -be- reined in. Bottom line. It doesn't matter what he's done for anyone, it matters what terrible things he can do if he isn't controlled, either by himself or others. If you don't agree with that, look at Sombra - he was a hero of Equestria, and he slipped the loose leash and started fucking up all over the place. Look at House Avarice, I'm sure that in the beginning they did some very good things, they wouldn't be nobles if they hadn't actually been noble at the start. Then look what they did.
It is literally part of Luna's job to do this, and she has exercised it to our knowledge several times already, and likely does consistently 'off-screen', sending messages and reminders and fear through nightmares to scare a pony straight. If she did like you suggested, Bucky would still try and take matters into his own hooves, because that's how revenge works. He's MAD, he wants to make them pay first-hoof. He wants their blood and he wants their screams. If he saw even the slightest opportunity he'd have gone for it - which the dream proves. He needed to be reminded that there's more at stake than simple revenge, and there's no better way of getting it through his thick head than Luna did - by letting him see the consequences of his choices, without actually forcing him to take those consequences. This was a mercy. Do try to consider all avenues of approach before blaming a character for something.

Wiping memories en masse is bad? I think I covered this several times already, on how that was a very good thing - I don't think we need to revisit why mindwiping Ponyville of its memories of trying to rape Dinky to death is good thing. Also, a mortal thinking they're doing something for justice means about squat compared to someone with thousands of years of experience knowing just what justice means and what it takes to see it come to pass. Would you really trust Joe Blow's justice, even though he's a race-supremacist whose doctrine involves killing your family for the crime of being born with their skin color? Or would you trust the ancient being who's helped keep the world stable and their nation relatively peaceful for longer than recorded history? Because the difference is that Joe Blow's 'justice' is HIS justice, not actual justice - something most people can't differentiate since most people lack the ability to separate their logic from their bias. I cannot stress enough how much more an immortal will know, perceive, understand, and comprehend than any mortal could. If living fifty years of experience makes you an expert, and seventy makes you a grand master, then what about thousands? And yes, just like any other person, an immortal can have their faults and flaws and personality schisms and whatnot, but that doesn't apply in this particular case because the immortals on Bucky's side seem to be particularly careful about making sure they don't fuck themselves up as easily as a mortal could. That would take insane amounts of self-control and willpower, the kind that none of us could even summon up.
All actions are not equal, they are judged by intent and situation. I think there was an old ethical question about this as well. "Would you kill a baby if you knew it would grow up to be the next Hitler?"
Anyway, I need ( ) get there [ to] Here is a typo for your altar. While reading this chapter I became quite glad that rum is a fair anesthetic.
Wow... almost got me there... Almost.
Though knowing how "clever" Bucky is shouldn't he know when to bail? Like the train to ponyville?
Good job scaring him straight Luna.
Bucky should have seen it coming, considering he helped doing it to Applejack recently.
Well... at least he knows what to expect when he finally finds these cultists.
YOU my friend, Scared the living shite out of me.
Am I the only one who would like to see a very specific alternative ending to that scene? Because whenever I find a fanfic with potential for a fun little tentacle scene, surprise boner kill. Or maybe I'm as sane as bucky...well I'm off to the corner of shame...
HOLY FECK !!!!!!!!!!!!! STOP GIVING ME HEART ATTACKS !!!
Blue balled again! The fuck Kuds! Do you not know how to kill characters off?! Why the fuck would you half ass it?!!!!
What? What? Can someone tell me what happened?
5961397
Luna happened.
Damn it! I thought he finally ascended!
FECK!!! Either do it or don't! Shite!
Ive kinda figured out when things go really fast in the story and it seems bad ussally its not what it seems

If I also knew there was no way to avoid that future, feck yeh. Hitler was an abomination of a man, and deserved a much, much more agonizing death than he got. Perhaps being burned alive.
That's a tape I'd listen to on repeat. Ode de Hitler's Pyre.
wow that got me son.
6737163 Actually Heimlich, HItler's right hand man, was responsible for some of the worst atrocities. Hitler just signed off on things, he wanted the Jews gone and didn't care HOW it happened or WHAT would happen to them.
Thing is...there were people who helped Hitler go down in history. He didn't rise to power and commit genocide all on his own. You may not even need to kill Hitler, if you just changed what happened to those who brought him power.
Even then there's the problem of killing baby Hitler. So much of history would be changed and we do NOT know how it would affect the world in the long term. Maybe someone else would come along to fill the void. Maybe less people would die, but there would be a lot more hate and racism in the World. Just look at that movie The Butterfly Effect, and how even small changes over the course of under 2 decades can have dramatic unseen changes.
Dammit Kudz, I was literally bout to snap my phone in half, I'm shaking like a mad man
I'm extremely surprised you didn't do the God, The Devil, and Bob riff and have Scorch tell Bucky to go to hell.
