my belief that one day
...great, Stargarden is a bug pony. What she (I think? Slept since then) is describing sounds like a hive mind but without any restraints Chrysalis might have put in place... speaking of queen bug, I wonder what she's up to...
5969333
Some ponies dream dreams and cling to their idealism.
What sounds like a nightmare for one seems like utopia for another.
to be normal
you can't run forever... She will get you and then... You are doomed. Pony toy that will be brushed and hugged...
As for Bucky... He is clever in a extreme way
5969352
This doesn't really exist in Equestria. Yet.
The game of democracy is just being figured out.
Ok, show of hands/hooves: How many of us, if we could give others the feeling of having a brainfreeze, would abuse the shit out of it for shits and giggles?
Huh. And all for one soul. Now that's some clever negotiating. Still, I have to wonder how the rock of normalcy will feel when seeing all that his or her siblings will be capable off. On the other hand, that unremarkable pony will also see all that they will have to deal with. Hopefully his or her wisdom will be sufficiently above average to appreciate his or her own gift.
As for Bucky's body, that nausea worries me. It may be an indicator of the strength of War in the world. It could be waning... or, given the sense of repair and rejuvenation, it could be waxing. It remains to be seen.
5969397
And run the risk of Bucky and his clever punishments.
A herd hivemind... except without the destruction of individuality. Hmmm, that could be taken advantage of... couldn't it? But then again, there's all the positives to it. Like, if it does get taken advantage of it, everypony would know..... Herrrrrrm~
5969388
But the Budget still must be considered, it is the single limiting factor of any government. The only revenue for the government is taxes and I doubt raising taxes in such troubled times will go over well.
Or... Scorch could ensure that some of Bucky's children are below average. Or outright failures. That is technically not more than one above average foal.
5969343
Does this just count for the ones birthed from his own loins, or, if he adopts more, will it apply to them, too? Because Scorch did say "foal", and not "offspring", when the terms of the deal were struck.
warning, the comment below contains a disagreement with the story and morality. If you do not wish to then do not read.
also, this might simply be a case of "evil cannot comprehend good" (which leaves an interesting implication about me, those being that I can not imagine anyone being satisfied with their lot in life if those around them are more successful) and might therefor be invalid
Yeah, a good future for everyone but one... That is kind of cruel.
I really can't see ANY way this could turn out good for that one foal. DESTINED to live life only slightly above average. Surrounded by a herd of siblings all of exceptional attributes, abilities and destinies. Can that one truly be happy? Knowing that their dad chose that one to live an unremarkable life while all around it are ponies that change the world? Heroes of the world, right talon of a god, geniuses and archmages? To be a mere common among titans? It doesn't matter what Bucky or anyone will tell him/her, it doesn't matter if the others are crushed under the weight of their destinies, the weak, the normal will ALWAYS envy the exceptional. Those without will always envy those with.
No kudz. This... This will be the one choice of Bucky's I will not be able to agree with. I don't care about what Bucky told scorch, he condemned himself to the hate of one of his children and condemned his children to the envy and scorn of a sibling. And... Most of all in my eyes... An ear that will hear sickeningly sweet words of deception warped in promise
"Don't you want to be great?
Don't you want to be exceptional like them?
Don't you want to change your destiny?"
And then? The Power that be gets to put on a wide grin and whisper to cosmos:
"Again."
For isn't the destroyer of everything a great destiny indeed?
Isn't the alicorn of war exceptional?
that got a bit dramatic on me so TL;DR I dunno Kudz... I'm don't know if I like this.
The idea of a hive Equestria is being explored in Hive Alive by BlackWater. Its somewhat different, given that the Main 6 + Spike and Chrysalis and several guards are in a Changeling hive, which has its own unique properties beyond just sharing feelings and memories, but its interesting. Solving relationship problems before they exist and dealing with trauma seem to be the main benefits though in that story, and I wouldn't be surprised if it worked similarly in the chase verse.
5969534
Above average and free of a life of exceptional problems. Happiness.
5969481 I though exactly the same thing ! And Sukari comes to my mind !
5969534
This is... in a way, very in character for Bucky. Bucky's aspect is War. A war that is constantly interpreted as nothing but destruction, death, pain. In fact, it is declared to be the opposite of growth period (which is, to me, philosophically, completely wrong. I cannot agree with the idea that conflict is essentially anathema to growth, because war is simply exaggerated large-scale conflict). An aspect he completely rejects, wanting to do nothing but not fight and even hating the idea that others have power over each other.
Why wouldn't he see someone that is free of the things he hates about his life as anything but good?
But, of course, it also means they won't really do anything significant with their life. They won't change the world, they won't be talented, they won't be better than everyone else, and they will be constantly comparing themselves unfavorably to those around them, and (something I'm sure Bucky didn't think of) they won't be able to accomplish their goals and will have to hope that others have their best interests in mind.
These are things Bucky never had to go through. He never had siblings that were better than he was. He never actually came up against a wall he could not break through. So... as a result, he sees what is awful about his life, and wishes that one of his children would live the life that he would rather live, free of the burdens of "greatness."
To someone who feels that their exceptional position is nothing but trouble, mediocrity must seem like a paradise. To someone who cannot control their own life, or accomplish as much as they'd want to accomplish (which, in a broad sense, describes most of the human race), it seems like a punishment.
Do note he did say "above average" though, not "average" or "poor" or something, so he imagines something reasonably affluent and successful... but in comparison to what? It's still very vague.
5969546 sorry but I do not accept that. Want, desire is a constant. All things want what they see that they do not have and this child will see exceptional beings while it itself is mediocre.
This might just be my own view as a human but If I must have a belief in a creator then I know two things. It is brilliant and it is immeasurably cruel for it made us with but half a soul, leaving us with a unbound desire, an insatiable hunger for more to try to fill the void in our souls. We look around and imagine that those who have more aren't as hungry as them and envy them, not realizing that they think the exact same thing.
Fundamentally I believe that all humans are, deep in their very cores unhappy, envious and hateful towards those who have more.
It might be wrong to put that thinking on ponies as I do not believe their deities are as cruel, nor as brilliant as our was.
Again, TL;DR I don't agree and I don't think you can convince me otherwise, sorry.

Speaking as the writer...
Barley Buckminster Bitters will be Bucky's most even heeled offspring. He will be charming, affable, charismatic, above average in every conceivable way, flamingly fabulously gay, and will be in many ways, Bucky's happiest foal. He will live a life free of dark shadow, will know success, will take over the family brewery, and he will be the smiling face that everyone else comes home to after having adventures in other parts of the world. He will never have to kill anything, will never know a crushing sense of obligation, he will never mentally or physically traumatised, and he will be the one to pick up his siblings when they fall down or get crushed by the things they have to deal with in life.
here is the question though. is scorch even capable of taking that unicorn's soul? there is something off about it in its entirety.
........ we know that powerful magic users are capable of great feats, but they take concentration. somehow this magic user generated seemingly four powerful feats of magic simultaneously, and had the power to wound an alicorn afterwards. there is something strange here.
5969663 The poor bastard.
5969682
Scorch is one of the ruling Lords of Tartarus.
Not evil mind you... but not good.
5969663
Are we talking the happy kind, or George Takei kind? 'Cause I approve of both.
5969694 meant if that unicorn might have some about him that would prevent scorch from taking his soul....... or even if he actually HAS one.
5969698
Oh hey Thanatos, hey, how ya doin', yeah, I have a tough nut to crack over here, he's being a selfish bastard with his soul... think you can help a fellow immortal out?
Exceptional is not always GOOD.
One can be exceptionally ugly, or greedy, or a thousand other bits of excess beyond the norm. Deviation is not always a positive, and twisting Fate has always been a wish made on a monkey's paw.
5969637
Berry Punch is not excepcional. Nor Derpy...or Belissama. Berry is VERY clever, but Piña is the exceptional one on that matter. Derpy is an amazing mother (that, still, make mistakes and almost left her foal) but, even yet, she is not excepcional. Just very dedicated. Belissama is very good at aiming and started to develop the misical magic that the gryphoons have but she is not exceptional at any of those things. Even her more "above the average skill", aiming, is scarcely used. She is just very dedicated.
Are they mediocre. Are they unhappy ? In a sense, Applejack is the more mediocre mare in the whole equestria ! She is very strong, but nothing much above the average earth pony mare. Other then being the simbol of truth (and that came to her in, sort of, a luck way, being in the right place at the right time) she has no other special traits.
Not being exceptional, and being mediocre, or even a failure, are two different things.
Also, forgot to mention: lovely to see the glass statues of the family. Derpy´s glass estatue creation chapter was one of the best moments of this story !
5969663 well then
That sounds like one exceptionally happy stallion ;)
5969784 I must admit that I lost myself a little there since I forgot one exception to this faith of mine. Seems kudz also had exactly that in mind too.
You know the old Greek myth? Humanity was originally made with two heads and 4 sets of limbs. The gods feared our strength so they split each human in two. However, they noticed that this resulted in them being consumed with despair and greed. So they made one way for us to be content. Can you guess what it was?
love
I'm not sure if i like this whole spiritual "we are one mind for the greater good" thing. Its sounds something that can be used as a some sort of espionage equipment (getting info out of someone or sending the data for someone safely) . What kind of lesson Stargarden teach, psychology?
5969663
In the way you described it its sounds like Bucky Bitters junior get out as the luckiest from this whole deal. Others got leadership, adventure or great innovating ideas, he got peace, safety and the brewery.
5969940 And dicks...never forget the dicks...
5969940
Stargarden is teaching them how to be better empaths. Psychics. Mentalists.
5969958
Oh, how could i forget that. Every happy stallion needs at least one of those (and preferably their own).
5970194
This will be a location in The Catch. :D
5969663 I wish to hug said stallion and balance an egg on his snout! Do not deny a young lad's dreams!!!
5970229
I have a story note idea where Barley Bitters wants to attend the sisterhooves social...
5970233 They have an egg balancing event in that. Yes! Get him in and have him almost win! There are so many amazing possibilities with a wonderfully flamboyant guy having fun. The true question that I'm sure everyone is skeptical to hear, except me, is who gets the honor to be that lovely pony's coltfriend. The question is real, and my curiosity is agonizing! :D Spoils?
5970250
I actually not know just yet.
5970258 Then it's left in the air for a later date. That's.... slightly disappointing... But none the less. We shall see him grow into a brilliant stallion none the less! Who pops little bitters out? Berry or Derps?
Edit: I really like using the word nonetheless! Makes me feel edumicatined :P
Edit Edit: Educatated*
5970273
Berry of course. Barley Bitters and Brandywine.
Derpy is having Dizzy and Ditzy.
5969409
I am for this idea. It's not so much like a hivemind as it is an Instant Messenger-type-dealie you can't turn off, but presumably could ignore if you wanted.
5969940
Peace, safety, drunk as hell, seems to be somewhat of a lack of gay stallions so he's got like, no competition in getting all the ponuts or dicks he wants. No pressing horrible responsibilities. ... Yeah, he won life. Bucky traded a soul to have one foal who wins the game of life.
5970279 Oh yeah, this has been stated before. I forgot obviously. Hmmm, are spanner and lugnut going to give him the talk? Or is that still reserved for Bucky? Will bucky even be alive?
5970233
And this is exactly why we need just a Siblings Social. I get the idea behind the Sisterhooves Social. I know everyone can join with a honorary sister, but still. And slamming just a Brotherhooves Social next to it, that won't do either.
Will Barley borrow his dad's princess gown?
5970214
Can't wait for the next chapter for that story. I miss Rye Mash and the crew.
5970313 Ha, hehe, borrow his father's gown. You're silly. No foal in their right mind would do that... He'll get a gown made for himself! XD
5970291 The hell is a ponut? The booty hole?
5969559
5969481
Does Bandua and any other future hippogriffs/fubs count? They are not fully foal, so to speak...
5970328
The combination of donut and peanut!!! actually i have no idea either
Wait, how does that go back on the deal? Scorch guarantees one slightly above average, so yes, two in that way will be against the deal. But anything else - exceptional, just average, below average - goes.
Or am I misreading or misinterpreting something?
5970344 I mean, it sounds like just another way of saying booty hole, just... more breakfast oriented. I guess we'll never know.
