Lots of unsure news and lots of emotions in this. Bucky's deal with the Fates should prevent complications with the pregnancy... Right? As I remember it, none of his wives would ever have to bury her foals and every pregnancy would be successful... Or attempts at conceiving would always work. Something like that. I hope your joint pain gets better soon, have you put anything on it? Tiger Balm works wonders but it's something that most people have to order online these days.

The deal will be kept. The foals will be fine. But nothing in life is ever easy.
Need more DiamondSentinel Fluff. It is currently the best fluff.
use that pain to say screw you typos!!!

Drop the 'the'
Yes, Diamond, that is exactly what you're doing.

The foals. Notice Kudzhu says nothing of the mothers?
That's too bad kudzu

also, hooray for crushing comfort cuddles!
5293094
Actually Lucky, I think the deal was also not to lose any of his wives to childbirth.
5293113
They'll all be fine.
5293062
Wasn't it just Berry who made the 'you never have to bury your foals'-deal or did that count for all of Bucky's ladies?
The feelings, the love, all...too...much...to bear....
5293131
All of them.
Just a thought, have you looked into that program called Dragon? I have not used it, but it is supposed to be able to take the spoken word and turn it into text. This would, I think, leave you to read the text and just work out the errors that you find. Don't know if this is any help or not but had to pass on the idea.
Oh god, I can't even imagine how frustrating, painful, disheartening, did I mention frustrating, it is to not use your fingers with ease. They are a huge part of our bodily operation.
5293148 Dragon Natural Speaking, or something like that. I have had good success with it in the past, although I prefer typing personally. It can once in a while give you hilarious typos, but if you calibrate it, it can even understand people with accents.
5293131 I don't think it meant only one mare since Berry wasn't the one to make the deal, it was Bucky, and the deal was about his wives and foals. He just had to avoid ascending. Why does everyone forget big things like this? This little scene was one of the most important to come up, because we know how devoted Bucky is to protecting foals and innocent lives.

I write on a chromebook.
I love my chromebook,

Bucky made a deal and the Fates offered a little something extra to Berry Punch.

Doesn't Google have its own speech to text app? or something like that?

I'm not sure.

This is the fates and their promises are like the promises of the Faye. They will be kept, but in their interpretation, not your's. The fact that the Fates even offered to make the deal surprises me. They could simply weave things to their desire, take all free will out of it. They are immortal and the rules for the immortals are different. It's the big picture, the game, and the outcome of that game that matters. There must be a winner and a loser. Oh, there's cheats available for mortals to have an even playing field, but none of them are common knowledge I'd wager.
1st rule: Never make a deal or accept a gift from a Faye/Fae, Immortal, or Djinn.
2nd Rule: If you do be prepared to be screwed over.
5293118 I was just about to comment that you said that The Chase ends with a funeral... But then you spoiled the fun.
Great work man, I applaud you fr working through the pain. I'm glad that you're back, I was going a little crazy there for awhile.
5293394 think they are more limited than that. free will is what shapes the cloth of fate, choices and wills. remove free will, the aiblity to choose, and all that is left is a heap of disconnected thread. because the will of one will affect the will of another, even indirectly. fate is enormously complicated like that. for every one fate change, the fates of others will change as well. because it will either remove or encourage oppurtunities for them to take into account.
put simply fate is fucking complicated even for the fates to deal with. you cannot just change ONE fate. and it does seem that fate could opearte on its own with them now that i think about it.
fate is not a lack of free will. fate is regulating free will.
Every time Coco Pommel is mentioned I can't stop wondering: What the heck happened to Babs Seed after the fall of Manehattan?
5293711
Going with the Fates in their other incarnations sort of points against that notion. MacBeth:
MacBeth's end is clearly pointed out by the 'Weird Sisters' (aka the Fates). but even then they tell him, more or less, that there is nothing he can do to escape his ending. That the hand has already been played.
If he had freewill it didn't matter. The fates were determined that he would be killed, and for good reason. MacBeth would have ended up being a terrible King.
But it's not just him...
Their Presence in the modern mythology has been about the same. Comic books, recent novels, and the like have depicted the fates as being creatures that have a disdain for free will. They try to over come it and ensure that the tapestry is maintained in its completion.
The fates play a game that they have every intention of winning. It's a game that they've been playing for thousands, perhaps millions, of years, and one that they want to win. The entire time they've stacked the deck in their favor, and they've done their best to get rid of the wild cards that could stop them. In the end a gift, promise, or action by the fates is done for the single purpose of ensuring that they win their game. I think the only wild card left on the table is free will, and we've been shown (Back in the Isle arch) that they can overpower it.
I believe the only ones with Free will that are able to withstand them are the ones with minds sharp enough, and magic powerful enough, to resist their ability.
And even that's questionable.
But hey... That's just me.
5293853
There was exactly one pony that could have stopped the Fates. Just one.
5294012 ...... wouldn't the mirror walkers also be a threat to them? true their power is great yet these mirror walkers have unknown magics and, even worse, the fates are blind to them. far as they know the mirror walkers are stationed in the trade winds, right under their noses.
and it appears they are capable of killing alicorns to start with.
5293853 problem in that compraison is that is those versions fate was solid as stone, unchangeable, or the fates wanted to destroy free will.
in this story fate is not set in stone in by any means. there are far too many variations that can occur, and the future can change, and the fates can be blinded. and this is all because of free will.
5294056
To kill the fates, one must extinguish all mortal lives and immortal lives controlled by the fates. In short, all life must die.
5294075 ........ or push them through the portal into a world they have no sway in, maybe?
just a thought there. iof their lives are bound to the lives of all other things in their dimension, severing the connection would probably make them vulnerable. easiest method would be to put them in a place where they have no sway.
5294106
Fates can't be pushed through. They are tied to the world they are in. Otherwise, they would interfere with other Fates.
5294109 like i siad, a thought. and they wouldn't interfere if put into a place where the fates do not exist........ or a world where there are no fates to affect, like the world the mirror walkers fled. a world that is dead, a world where even a scorch equivalent would have perished, would have no fate to interfere with.
5294117
Fates always have control over their own fate and are immortal. If pushed through a portal, nothing could stop them. They have three fates tied to them, and are functionally immortal. The multiverse doesn't allow them to travel.
One thing I find interesting is how the Idea free will is intertwined with Humanity's downfall. All throughout human history gods have given free will and choice to humans and in most instances they have chosen their doom, Adam and Eve and Pandora's Box off the top of my head. The idea that when given free choice we will imperil ourselves yet why do we fear losing it? Because without Free will and choice we might as well be dolls in the playhouse of the gods. The right to choose our own doom is a right that mustn't be taken away. The fates would rather play with us in their doll house for their own ends and lured by the promise of safety the ponies are willing to bend to their will. The question is does Destiny and Fate work towards our interest or are they creating their own perfect doll house where we live in static harmony. I believe a world without change is a dead world and the closer this story goes towards that end the more I wonder if the Fates aren't just another pawn put in play to bring about the worlds end.
5294075 Wait, if my memory serves me, The Fates stated, I think somewhere during The Isles Arc, that they have been killed once. I always though that they meant their mortal bodies, maybe some temporary prision. What that means ? That Equestria is Matrix version 2.0 !? Life already was wiped out before !? Celestia and Luna were alive at that time !?
I know how he feels.
In any case, a great deal transpired, and I'm very glad I caught up on it. I'm also glad to see that Twilight's attacking the Pinkie problem head-on. I just hope it'll be quick...
Looking forward to more, which I'll try to read in a more prompt manner.

5294012
Bingo.
The fates own eventual fate is to end. Everything that exists, Everything that lives, even something immortal, has an end. Perhaps that end is simply a transition to a new beginning, but it is an end. The fates, being living beings, want to put this end off as long as they can, but being that they are fate they're compelled to seek it out. Stopping Bucky prolonged their lives, but the civil war and unrest that has sprouted up is undoing quite a bit of it. The desire to destroy the gun is a removal of a wildcard. There is the eventual possibility of something being powerful enough created to destroy immortal lives. (And thus of course get them closer to extinction)
The fates 'being kind' is the fates protecting themselves.
This is directly from one of my personal favorite sources when dealing with the Fae or immortals because in most cases they fall into the same category.
While this is mainly talking about the fae/faye it's also commonly associated with the immortals such as the fates as well. Which very well might suggest why bucky and every other 'mortal' have been unable to say their name. They have no desire to be called upon. So far the Fates haven't lied, but to say that they've been the very model of truth and purity is horribly wrong as well. In truth, in all truth, the Fates have told the main characters only what they've needed to hear in order to win the game.
And do not kid yourselves, they are playing a game. A game that has a few loose ends that they intend to tie up and ensure that all things work toward the eventual end in a long, nearly eternal, way.
5294128 the mirror walkers killed an immortal themselves, overridden what should have been deathlessness and laid an alicorn low.
......... and be honest i do not see how this can't work. their power comes FROM fate. the mirror walkres seem to indicate that the fates cannot link into the fate of another world.
so basically push them through a portal and they would be cut off from what is fueling their magic.
simply taking into accounts factors of your story and cannot see how these could not be functional ideas....... difficult to pull off without question even if the fates couldn't see you if you were ten feet in front of them, but functional.
more so it would make the mirror walkers even more of a threat. this factor could not be done by anyone BUT someone from another dimension. the fates would see the plan coming from anyone of this world, but not one from another. the best way to defeat fate is to make it blind to you, and the fates are blind to the mirror walkers.
5294344 the mirror walkres already have that capacity, to kill an immortal. and it had nothing to do with guns.
5294454
Point taken. What I was thinking about was the long term of it. The gun would eventually give way to more powerful weapons. Weapons that could match Unicorn magic, and surpass it. The moment a scientist learned how to split an atom there would be an entirely new game of hoofball on their hands. That's why I figured they wanted rid of the gun completely. To keep that from ever happening. As for the mirror walkers, yeah, I agree they are a very real threat at the moment, and I think that the fates not dealing with them could be part of their nature wanting working against their desire to continue to exist. Or it could be that they are considering the fact that Celestia may not listen to them, and the mirror walkers might be able to do something that Bucky most likely would have to be forced into doing, and there's no guarantee that he even could.
I believe the fates are allowing them to continue to exist inside of Equestria as an insurance for if Celestia will not listen.
5294491 think the main problem is they have no idea WHAT the mirror walkers are doign. i think the honest truth of it all is that they are helpless when it comes to them. they cannot see them and they blur the fate of those they itneract with it seems.they cannot try to figure out the right event to unfold to defeat them.
ultimately they have a free will unlike anything in equestria, and it will probably take equally free will to defeat them.
5294454
There is a hint of how they killed the immortal. There was no stars or moon in the sky. Why do you think that is?
5294513 i have already guessed that. they managed to cut the alternate nightmare moon off from her power source. it left her without magic more than likely. more so without the moon and stars to fuel her immortality, she could not revive. though i doubt that destroyed the stars and such. it would take far more power to do that than it would have to simply overpower and magically restore the sun, or maybe turn the stars into a new one. so presuming a magical barrier of some sort.
which is what i was talking about with the fates. cut them off from what gives them power they would lose both their power and immortality as well. ultimately even if their own fates were connected to one another, they would not have the energy to sustain their powers anymore. though in their case they would have to be forced through a portal. alternative, shoved into a pocket dimension that isolates them from fate.
the method is perfect for immortals like the alicorns, yet the likes of scorch it would be useless. he was not bestowed fire, he IS fire.
5294454
the probey with guns is that it allows non warriors to fight, Bucky claims that only handed races can wield them effectively but that's only true until ponies deveope battle saddles and hoof cannons. But an armed populace can overthrow governments, putting all the fates plans in jeopardy. All it would take is for some group or cult to realize that fate controlling everything is bad.
5294536
No, the stars were gone, destroyed, the sun gone, the moon exploded.
The heavens were lost.
The world was dead at that point. Nothing but a dead planet floating in the void of empty space.
5294552 shrugs. guessing it was something that had occured outside of the power of the mirror walkers.......... and a perfect place for the mirror walkers to imprison the fates.
MUAHAHHAHA!!!.......
sorry. either way the theory about it was accurate to a point. without something to draw power from they lose their powers. however it seems plausible you could isolate an alicorn from their source of power without just eliminating the existence of said power source.
the fates would be invulnerable to the mechanization under normal circumstances because they would see it coming......... the mirror walkers however, could come up with a plan without them. and they already know the weaknesses of an immortal. more so, they've got the highlander alicorn, and thus access to magic well beyond anything normal ponies could tap into. it is possible.
and it would only increase their threat even more if the fates could be threatened as well. their greatest power is theri ability to warp possibility. they cannot do that to these mirror walkers........ hell far as i know they are outright immune to the magic of the fates........ eh probably be too much for them to be able to just walk through a alicorn laser from the fates or somethin.
