I enjoyed this, it was simple and fun.
Sure! If you wanna do damage measured in d4's.
Discrepancy.

You wanted an excuse to shout "kill it with fire!" Didn't you.

Little known fact about slings. Strength damage modifiers are added to sling stone damage in second edition. It made rangers, who had high strength to begin with, fearsome. Especially those who had gauntlets of ogre power.
Are they playing Ogres & Oubliettes?

6153300 Sorry - Occasionally I skim and miss a few details
6153310
No worries.
I feel so nerdy right now it gives me the shivers !!!!
Also:
How do you "backstab" someone that is knocked over uppon his/her back ?
This rememebr me of the ocassion when my old D & D group stopped an epic fight against a Giant Dragon when the Rogue tried to backstab the thing.
"How do you backstab a giant monster ?"
"Giant Monster does have baks, you know ?"
"Yeah, sure...mountains does have backs too and you donĀ“t backstab then !"
"What kind of argument is that ?"
"And how do you reach its back !? YouĀ“ll jump in his tail and escalate Ā“till his wings ?"
"Pretty much that..."
"Do you know how many turns and dice rolls youĀ“ll need to do that !?"
"ItĀ“ll be epic !"
"And you dagger wonĀ“t even scratch his skin !!!!"
"Hey, itĀ“s a +20 enchanted poisoned dagger !!!"
"Oh, great, so you can poison a monster that is immune to poison and, then, you can get that neddle through 20% of his FIRST scale layer !!! I bet heĀ“ll ask for a full acunputure session after that attack....AFTER EATING YOU ALIVE !!!!"
"Wanna get a pizza while they discuss ?"
"Sure, lead on..."
Can we has a side story just about these characters playing Oubliettes and Ogres?

Hehe Kudz, you could probably do a whole side story of these guys' O & O adventures and I guarantee we'd read it. This is great

So are longbows, with d8 damage.
I haven't spent a lot of time at higher levels, though, and maybe the magic bonuses are much more significant than the average 2 extra damage per shot. Probably more important is the x3 crit multiplier.
6153315 It just so happens I poked a 4th wall joke at Ogres & Oubliettes in the 'Three's a Crowd' arc of my main story
Best chapter ever. :-)

There is also the archer bonus of +1 damage every four levels. Slings are a great alternative source of damage, as they do crushing and piercing damage, while arrows just do piercing damage. A long time ago, I had an archer character that had grand mastery in both crossbows (for shooting wooden stakes) and slings (For damage). He was a wacky half elf ranger that was a known menace to the undead and specialised in slaying those who were living impaired. His one true love became a quickghast and he had to put her down. He was chaotic good and always, always in trouble with the law.
"Look, I had good reason to be in the cemetery. I'm telling ya, you have a problem! Hey, is that a tarrasque?" **Runs away**
I can proudly say that my ranger archer never once killed a living sapient hominid. Sure, he broke a lot of kneecaps with crippling shot, but he never, ever, not even once killed the living. It went against his moral code. But the undead were another story. Starting out, his racial enemies were ghasts and ghouls, but a special encounter with Lathander allowed him to treat all undead as his racial enemy.
Oh my goddess I just realised how nerdy I sound...
6153413
I could not resist. Sorry
6153180
And people thought I was being angsty...
Babs is best DM.
Though now I want to see a game run by Bucky with Celestia, Luna, Cadence (before she died) and Twilight as the PCs.
Uh, Princess, why are you a barbarian unicorn?
When I was unifying the tribes I had to be firm but fair with my little ponies. This reminds me of the good old times.
I have a feeling you're going to disillusion me of your perfection again.
Oh I do not know about that. Before having my warhammer Solaris forged order was kept with Doomhilda.
What was Doomhilda.
A 100 foot fir tree with the branches and roots burned off. The sap burned for days. Kept the Leadership Hall smelling nice all the while.
6153413
I know the feeling.
My Priest has Weapon and Shield Training, with a Fine Longsword and Fine Shield, so it's not as squishy as my enemies think.
So with two Fighters on my side versus six enemies, they think they have the upper hand, until...
"Ha, we've nearly cut them down!"
*Cast HOLY AURA with additional burn damage*
"Holy crap, they're healed!?!"
"I'm on fire!"
*Whack* *Slash* *Ka-PWIIING*
Win.

I had similar situations with my ranger.
Big Dumb Ogre: Hey, look! A girly little half elf! Let's make him squeal!
Big Dumb Orc: RARGH!
-THWAP!-
**Fails to make save against paralysation with a -6 modifier after being hit in the groin with a crippling shot**
Big Dumb Ogre: (In squeaky falsetto) I can taste my own testicles...
My ranger carried a most unconventional weapon for close quarters combat against the living. These moments were rare, but they happened. He had a rubber sex toy that he would whip out and brandish. When he pulled out the big black rubber dong, enemies had to make a saving throw vs spells at a -4 penalty or be confused for three rounds. Even if they made a saving throw, they still had one round of confusion and that was usually all the time I needed to make good on my escape.
He once slapped a paladin of Helm right in the face with it. He was being arrested for disturbing the graveyard. (Again) Good times, good times.
6153704 You, my good sir, is the nerdiest punk ever !
Now back to writing...this story would not write itself alone!
So, were you using an actual game system there? And if so, which one? The kind of rolls they were making didn't sound like a normal d20 system.
6155024
I was using several gaming systems, to make it as confusing as possible for gaming veterans. GURPS, D&D, stuff like that. I wanted something that was unique to ponies.
Got in trouble in the last DnD game I ever played. Ordered to make a cleric. Hero's Feast became 'Spam'. Dunce highly effective and useful as 'Twit'. Smite became 'foot of Cupid'. Healing spell became 'Tis but a flesh wound'. Primary weapon a large dead parrot and at least it doubled as a bottle opener for the ambrosia of beer. I always had transportation with mount or two halves of a hollowed coconut clapped together. Surprise attack required me to shout 'Spanish Inquisition' loudly. Even carried a couple Holy Hand Grenades. Never make a follower of Monty Python as a cleric in a very serious game. I was just lucky the DM was such a fan of Monty Python or else my character would have been killed many times over. My character died only from riding off into the sunset after the end of the campaign to save the world from that great evil. Fun Times. Fun Times.
6155036 You know, the use of GURPS all by itself is confusing enough so you donĀ“t need to make things worse.
I still remember the advanced rules for digging holes and how to calculate damage uppon tobacco dependency.
*shivers*
One. dice is plural, die is singular.
Two. You can't sneak attack undead.
6155798 I get all those references! I should do that too...
I feel as though I've gained a few neurons.
I still think they should've got that 50k set thing, i liked that proposal!
Percentile based, with damage percentages in the system? ewwwwwwwwwwww.
6578488
You say that, but old-school games, like really old-school AD&D used that, I know Call of Cthulhu still does d%, and one of my mates (devil take his soul for this) used a home brew class that either boosted his AC by 20% at the cost of 10% of his damage or vice-versa, alongside all the other things like straight Stat buffs, AoE that did more damage than a Wizard, self-healing, infinite uses of Spell-like abilities, I hated that class I did, then again I played a dragon for hat campaign so it wasn't fully serious.
6622439 Elfquest used percentile rolls as well.
Somehow I get the feeling that having Lyra in the game is going to be FAR more trouble than Babs has ANY Idea....
The fuck kind of d&d ripoff are you playing? D100's for attack rolls? What?
I would love to see a spin-off story of their campaign
