Eh... this is where I stop. Bucky's getting darker and darker, slowly becoming no better than his biological, disowned family, at least to my very clouded view. He's gone from being the guardian to seeking power for power's sake or rather thinking that it will benefit his herd, forcing others to change to suit his needs. It's hard for me to stomach.
No less is expected from a spawn of House Avarice.
I will not, however, withdraw my thumbs-up. The first arc was genuinely fun, but the darker this goes, the less I can sit through. I am sorry.
Derpy staying close in case something
Holy shit, he's very near Twilight Sparkle level unicorn powers. Looks like I won't have to burn Fillydelphia. I'm just going to sit back with my marshmallows and sunglasses as Bucky and Rising Star do it instead!
4520737
I'm sorry, what?
Did you even read the last chapter?
If you did, you missed something vital.
Or completely misunderstood what was being said.
4520749 I did. They dismantled and reassembled a tower together because Bucky channeled his magic through Rising Star, Dinky, and Sparkler... but prior to that, he thought of 'fixing' them, like because they were weaker than him, they were 'broken', inadequate. He's forcing his way in a sense that makes me think of how he, according to his past, was treated by his family.
So, again, this is where I stop. I genuinely wish you luck on this story, but I can go no further.
Also, I did admit to clouded vision.
4520762
If that is all you could see then I am sorry.
But that isn't how it is.
I do believe your own biases are intruding into the context of what is actually being said, and I am fairly certain that others will be able to see what is actually being hinted at here.
Do you think Twilight Sparkle was "broken" when Celestia "fixed" her? Because that is what you are saying when you place what you are saying in context to the story.
Unlocking somebody else's potential for their benefit isn't a dark act, it is for the betterment of society.
Does this not make sense to you?
4520776 It does... but my bias does not interpret what Bucky is doing that way. I believe my own bias is affecting my judgement and interpretation as well, but quite frankly, that's how I choose to interpret it because Bucky is constantly taking these risks and only getting positive consequences.
You know how you said that, in your initial draft, Sentinel would have been immolated and reduced to not even ashes because of Bucky's own machinations backfiring? I'm starting to think that would have been best, so I, as a reader, could legitimately see Bucky make a mistake, so he could learn that just because wants to reshape something or somepony doesn't mean it will always work, that if he doesn't stop and consider the limits of others, he'll end up destroying everything around him because of how powerful he's becoming. Sure, he acknowledges that certain Types have limits, but it's currently a case of 'tell' instead of 'show'.
I legitimately feel bad about not being able to continue, but... I just can't get as invested in this story anymore.
4520737 He's no darker than Nolan's Batman
4520744 It was stated earlier on that Twilight Sparkle, at the start of the show, was a Type 4 which is the same as Bucky is now. Now that she's an alicorn princess she's off the charts though.
4520797 That is true, but he is going darker and darker.
4520796
Sentinel did not immolate due to Bucky's machinations, so cut the crap. In the original draft Sentinel died because Bucky surged and had a type four light spell go off due to stress, and I stated as such. Accident. Not machinations. Accident. See the difference here?
So cut the bullshit.
4520762 he plans on asking their permission first. He's not simply going to experiment on them. He planned on being very persuasive, but if they said no, he would not have done it.
It also stated right in this chapter that Bucky is more than just a little cuckoo at the moment.
4520812 I didn't say his death was planned. I'm guessing that, in that draft, Bucky just tried something and it back-fired horribly.
So, with all due respect, cut your own bull-shit.
4520821
Are you second guessing me again? Are you just trying to start drama and get shit stirred up like you have done so many times in the past?
Are you trying to tell me what I intended?
Edit: my final words here were uncalled for.
4520824 Considering the lack of response it seems you may have hit the nail on the head in regards to drama-seeking
4520858
I've blocked him. I don't think he can comment anymore
This reminds me of my headcanon about Pegasus Magic and Earth Pony magic. Pegasai control air pressure and absorb heat through their wings: in large flocks, they absorb or generate heat to generate wind and change the air temperature, all in order to control humidity.
The Earth Ponies' magic is unconscious; their power is simply done through will, commanding plants to do different things (kinda explains why the apple family's apples only fall in the buckets they set under the trees and never need to weed the fields. They command the weeds to grow elsewhere, and command the trees to drop their apples only in their buckets). I would also like to imagine that the Earth ponies' hooves can sense vibrations in the ground, predicting earthquakes and sensing every insect that touches grass in a 6 mile radius. Just food for thought.
4520884
I have a similar headcannon.
I wonder if that's what Sombra did, merge with the leyline and go insane? Anyways, silly unicorns, they always have to frou-frou everything up with statues and leaf sculptures and things.
I'm intrigued by Sparkler and Rising Star coming into their own. Good chapter, as usual! (That flower in Thistle's hair.. Is that some sort of magical lust inducing flower? Does this have anything to do with the flower that was placed beside Keg Smasher's plate a while back?)
4520917
Nothing to do with the flower for Keg.
And yes, the flower produces a scent that makes a kelpie desirable.
Good story... Sorry bout the troll but C'est la vie
4520737 4520749
I would just like to say that both of you have done wrong in this discussion.
Kudzu, Snow was saying something much along the same lines as Aotrs Commander a few chapters back. It did not require you to get huffy as if they were insulting your ability to write merely because they did not word it carefully.
When you said this it indicated you hadn't actually read the comment you were replying to, as it never so much as implied that his death was on purpose.
Snow . . .
That was an insult to the character of Bucky that was wholly unnecessary, not to mention false as of this chapter. Does he have the potential to fall down the slippery slope? Yes, but if we're going to judge people based on potential, perhaps Discord should still be in stone.
it might have been best to leave it at that and come back when you were sure your bias was going to be less of a problem, were you so aware of it affecting your judgment in the moment.
holy shit
4520776 more importantly, was he not going to ask them for permission first?
That chapter was simply awesome. Love the unicorn mind-link idea, now to see how they will utilize the sunstones.
Damn, Bucky's getting a bit dark here, isn't he?
Sins of the father, eh?
All I want to say is that I desperately want to see what this looks like
4520984
Read chapter. Again.
Your answer is there if you read it carefully.
4520960
He actually has a history of pulling this crap and I got tired of being patient with him.
Evidence can be found in the Twilight Sparkle and the Confusing X stories, where he continuously corrects me on what he believes my intentions should be and telling me that I am writing the story wrong, and second guessing everything I do.
I actually had to stop other people from telling him off because it got so annoying.
And today, I had no fks left to give.
Damn straight. Omnipotence has nothing on best filly.
Bucky's plan to augment unicorns is fascinating. Thinking about it, I want to liken it to nuclear power; it could do a lot of good, but one instability in the wrong place at the wrong time could be horrifically ruinous. Of course, it's probably a lot less dangerous than it seems unless someone cuts corners they really, really shouldn't.
I find it odd that Bucky's elemental talent lies in cold. I would've thought he was a biomancer. Cold and alcohol are both preservatives, I suppose, but I wasn't expecting this.
Also, the tower construction was very cool, both demonstrating how ponies have done as much as they have and why the Isles haven't. Remove an essential part of the equine equation, and the rest suffer for it.
Looking forward to more.
4521107
I'm gonna take a break and do a few other things so that when I write my rebuttal, I don't get my emotions mixed into it, like the two of you should have done yourselves.
4521093 i dont need to, my question was sorta rhetoric. I made the point to defend you. I actually believe releasing someones "true potential" in such a manner would be immoral, if without permission. But since you specified he would not be forcing them, it is perfectly fine
4521137
Pegasi are highly resistant to cold. I mean, highly resistant.
What did Bucky use to take out the pegasi fliers during the want it need it spell incident?
Think the average unicorn could freeze up a pegasus?
Food for thought!
4521141
Whoops, the way it was worded, it looked like something else.
Question: wouldnt cold spells essentially draining energy from the surrounding area? Or do they act differently by dissplacing the energy gained from making things cold.
4520960
: an act of machinating
: a scheming or crafty action or artful design intended to accomplish some usually evil end
I am sorry, but these are his own words.
So yes, he made it clear that Bucky planned to kill Sentinel, which is downright delusional. And this is not the first time this sort of thing has happened.
My apologies, but I had to point this out.
4521193
That is a very good question actually.
I don't know.
Some unicorns make things hot, others make things cold.
Look at the cold weather Sombra created
4521137
As the headmaster for a school for unicorns, he could watch over them from their early years to their young adult years, and know which ones to elevate, and which ones to leave alone.
You don't apply the fix to all of them, only to those with worthy talents who prove themselves enough to earn the next step up.
At least, that is the idea. This isn't spoiler stuff because the cat is out of the bag.
4521203 if you like i could come up with some magical reasoning for you
4521238
Maybe.
Maybe some ponies are good at holding molecules very very still while others are good at making them wiggle.
Or a quasi pseudo science involving actual elemental energies.
4521107 Alright, I haven't read the comments on the Confusing X stories (or read the stories yet, for that matter) but I'm going to base this on what I've seen here today.
Let's look at Snow's first post. No mention of saying you are doing anything wrong, just that the way it's going Snow doesn't care for it. They still loved the story and what you've done so far, but wanted nothing to do with what was to come. The worst that was done was the spawn of House Avarice line, which according to a PM I received, was meant to be a joke (albeit one in poor taste). Basically a poorly worded version of Aotrs' comment.
Second post started with their interpretation of the events of this chapter. Not saying what your intentions should be, merely saying how it was interpreted. Also admitted to possibly being biased. This is where the discussion should have ended. Still not saying what they believed your intention should have been, merely how they interpreted it, and that it was totally possible they were wrong.
Third post reiterates bias and how it could affect interpretation, then goes to explain what they would have liked to see given that interpretation. This is the closest Snow gets to telling you what your intentions should be. But this is only after a couple of posts by you asking for clarification on interpretation, and I could certainly see that as an offer to tell you what they think you should have done
Lastly, the fourth posts just says what I'm about to tell you but worded poorly.
You're focusing on the wrong word.
Backfiring. To go awry. To fail to go according to plan. The inclusion of this word would indicate they did not believe Sentinel would have died had things actually gone according to plan. Which was the actual point of the paragraph, they wanted things to not go according to plan for once, and see things happen to the ponies Bucky loves. (kind of redundant with the amount of physical trauma he went through in that chapter but meh)
4521252
And there was the first incident with this story when I was informed that I was screwing everything up because Prince Blueblood was not in this story, and he told me that if Blueblood wasn't included, he was going to take his ball and go home.
And lots of people called him on his crap for that one.
I really am sorry, but I just wasn't in the mood for the stress or the drama anymore. My apologies if I seem so blunt about it, but I really did try to give him the benefit of the doubt about it for a long time, gave him a follow, tried to be nice, patiently tried to explain stuff, etc.
And today, it ran out.
4521292 Did you read the entirety of my comment? Or did you just read the first paragraph and decide I absolutely needed to know that before my opinion mattered?
4521298
I read it.
And I offered my reason. I was explaining my own position. I find no fault with what you wrote.
I simply stated that I stopped caring about his reasons or whatever it was he was trying to say, I nipped this little drama fit in the bud before it happened.
It is quite interesting though that he is contacting you through private message, let me guess, has he asked you to get me to unblock him?
I could drag up the hundreds of posts he's created drama in and post them if you would like so it would better clarify my position.
Proposed site ?
This also confuses me a bit. If it's an orb of magma, then it shouldn't be boiling, it should be melting (or melted).
4521319 No. In fact, I offered to settle this matter, and he wished to wash his hands of it. He is being very polite in the PMs, and wishes to apologize for what happened. Speaking of which . . .
4521246 well certain spell casters have different traits, IE bucky's horn will be able to get hotter then most unicorns while pyro's horn will have a better time resisting heat/ cooling down quicker.
Unicorns who are type 4+ should be able to absorb outside energies into magical energy in the form of either draining/absorbing spells or "cold" magic (which work by taking the molecules energy. this could also mean bucky can change some objects state of being quickly, like liquid to solid and gas to liquid by taking or displacing the objects energy) My understanding of magic using is (i believe) similar to yours, where the unicorn has a base magical storage but can also use the magic around them (which is a field similar to magnetic field of the earth).
The physical traits of each Unicorn/Alicorns horn can vary, eg luna's horn being more dense and hard then celestia's, whose horn would be quite hollow and lighter to allow better heat distribution when moving the sun (which is quite hot)
4521319 Also, I don't know if you remember, but I was right down there with you and trying to calm up all of the drama which you kept escalating.
4521330
Funny you mention that, because that is exactly what is happening and what my headcannon tells me happened to Sombra's horn
4521320
Magma boils.
It is literally boiling rock that is slowly evaporating.
4521347 hahaha, that is exactly mine as well the reason it is so cold around the empire is cause sombra stole all energy to feed his own magic and the crystal heart is pumping magic back into the land
4521363
That's weird. I'm reading this page, and I'm getting the impression that the rock is melted, but other compounds are turning into a gas and boiling away.
