In my headcanon, there are other griffon types. Ravens, crows, corvidae griffons, etc.
Including griffon vultures. Which are grody.
*reads the short description*
*reads the word count*
First thought:
Pony-loaf position has always been space efficient and adorable.
5096223 shrugs. headcanon is headcanon i suppose.....
mine with gryphons is that males and feamles live in different habitats. females are more like pumas and lived in forests and mountains during the older times. their beaks are more evolved for hunting smaller break though not incapable of larger. male gryphons live in the plans and hunt larger animals, sometimes as a pack sometimes alone. female gryphons are more successful because their food sources never became sapient......... kinda awkward, and tragic, when the Cow Famine occurred.
its like the potato famine, except it was about the food becoming sapient over a disease killing them.
Possibly missing a comma after hurt. Possibly.

Once you get a couple dozen chapters in it'll be more like

Construction work. Tower building. Glasswork. Fine craftsmanship.
Molecular assembly.
....... some reason i am finding this information contradicting. things are balanced by light and darkness and it is called harmony, but harmony is light magic rather than something inbetween.......... least that is what i am getting.
not sure what to think about an entity like scorch acutally being capable of destroying the world. he may be an entity like that, but even discord is far from invulnerable and he is a similar creature.

Well... since she's entirely willing to damn someone to Tartarus in return for doing her a favor... It's bound to seriously ruffle some jimmies that she gets off scott-free. It's rustling mine just a bit.
But, as you said, she's more important than Rising Star anyway, so it doesn't matter how bad he has it, her prosperity may be more important than him anyway. By her design or another's she is too important to fail, so any wrongdoing will just have to be tolerated, rather than corrected.
It also uncomfortably resembles the nobility, who made themselves prosperous and important to society's functioning at the expense of others, with the justification that society's better for it at the end. Only the nobility that existed before was unambiguously awful, but the "powerful immortals" nobility is ambiguously neutral, and they are important cosmically not just socially so they get a pass.
... Maybe it's shit like this that the cosmic alicorn wants to end the world over. Just start the same kind of war that Berry started, only with much more catastrophic and final ends.
5096379
Scorch poofed into existence when the first few stars began to burn.
He's eons old, literally almost as old as the cosmos, and Discord is nothing compared to Scorch. You cannot compare the two. Scorch survived the Chaos wars and helped to keep life going on the planet because life was fascinating to him and kept him from boredom.
That said, Scorch isn't good. Nor is he evil. He simply is. He'll die when the last star is extinguished from the cosmos.
Look up the word "primordial."
pri·mor·di·al
prīˈmôrdēəl

She could be killed. Someone who is loaded up on fire resistance and immune to burning could take an axe and chop down her tree. She'd die. She'd die screaming and in a lot of pain as the axe chopped through her tree.
And with her, she'd take down a vast section of the local magical ecosystem. The Everfree, which she helps to keep in check, would not have a cleansing presence of fire. Vines like poison joke and stranglesnatch would continue to grow with nothing to hold them back. The Everfree itself would begin to grow and expand, eventually swallowing up Ponyville and beyond. Migrating phoenixes would have no place to rest or roost that would allow them to drink deep of primordial fire magic and replenish their strength.
The deep roots of the tree and fire's cleansing presence would die off, and the water that it purifies, the Everfree aquifer, would become polluted. This is the water source that feeds Thistle's lake by the way. So killing the pyrodryad would be potentially hurting Thistle and harming Thistle's offspring who would potentially live in this lake.
The reverse is also true. The pyrodryad keeps the fires from burning too much. In the event of a dragon sneezing in the Everfree, she keeps the whole forest from burning down. She only allows just enough to burn to continue the cycle of life. But with no pyrodryad, the whole of the Everfree could burn. And the fire could easily jump to Ponyville and burn the entire city down to the ground. She keeps the balance.
So... still worth killing the pyrodryad? Getting revenge? Getting a moment of satisfaction is worth putting all of those other lives at risk, right?
What is the moral thing to do? What is ethical? What exactly is right or wrong and does it apply here?
The issue so much larger than what it first appears to be.
Just realized this story is now longer than Fallout: Equestria. This is officially the longest story I've ever read.
Curious, how far along are we on that massive outline you have for this story? I remember you saying something a while back about the outline being ~130 pages in length.
Ohhhh, Now a lot of things make sense.....I think I missed BonBon and Lyra's reaction to Rising's change...I may just not remember it...
5096423 i mostly meant in terms of supernatural beings. discord is an incarnate of chaos as scorch is of fire. a spirit. despite being a spirit he is not beyond maladies and harm, things one would normally think a being like discord would be immune to. unless tatzlwurms are somehow able to harm spirits.
5096603
Discord nearly died killing Tirek. Or did you miss that?
He can be hurt. Even killed by the right circumstances. Of course, a new chaos spirit would spring up to replace him if something happened.
Much better to keep Discord around because the chaos spirit you know...
5096423 ............ replace her? or are there no other creatures that could take her position?
5096627 meant less die in a fight against a supernatural beings and more be vulnerable to illness. maybe not to the point of dying but his body being incapable of just dashing the sickness aside with a snap of his fingers.
5096631
One of her offspring might replace her. But it would take hundreds of years of growth before she was strong enough to do much. She is only as strong as her tree is large.
How much harm might happen during that time? Is it worth it? How long does it take for a whole forest to burn down?
5096641
Scorch can be hurt by entropy, but not killed.
Bucky could make Scorch scream a bit, suffer a while, but Scorch would just allow it to happen and wait for Bucky to die of old age or something. Or get bored.
Or simply jump into another mass of flames somewhere else leaving behind a small part of his essence in a fire body for Bucky to torture to make Bucky feel better.
Don't worry, more about Scorch will come in time.
5096469 I get that she's important, but I love Rising Star and started to sweat when there was the possibility that he would spend eternity in hell away from his wives and family.
I remember BonBon and Berry getting angry when Bucky lied to the court about there family dynamic.
Shouldn't they be mad also that the fey lied to their son and sent him to hell?
5096662
Do you think the situation has resolved yet?
5095089
This world has trains, right? Run conduit under the train tracks, or alongside the train tracks, buried a few feet. Within that conduit, pull your insulated wire, as well as a big thread of Nylon (or other long-lasting fiber). For connections where there are no existing rail lines, run buried conduit still, but run them along the route where a rail line would be likely to go.
5096677
Actually, this is sort of what I had planned.
5096649 considering how actively malicious she is, i think it would argue it necessary. something that takes a bit more effort to execute than simply destroying her and a lot of preparation, but she is not something safe to keep. especially if there is a risk of her behavior escalating.
perhaps more people will die to the bandits if the dragon guarding the village is replaced by a younger, more benign dragon, but eventually the numbers of those not devoured as sacrifice to the dragon will exceed those who died by bandits.
5096675 Well, its cool he's a fey i guess, but I'd feel pretty bad for any other pony who made the deal and didn't have Bucky or the Princesses to bail them out.
.......if the fey got daughters from Rising does that make him a dad and Bucky a grandpa by extension?
5096355
Emergency rescue, quick response teams, interrogators ( mind magic pending oversight and moral issues), EMT healers, do you have healing magic in the Chase-verse? I don't remember.
5096659 that kinda proves my worry. nothing can harm him. always been hard for me to enjoy invincible characters. discord i only grew to adore when he proved that he was not invulnerable.
Don't forget that there are still things that need to be moved which can't go by morsalgraph. Besides packages, there are also sensitive communications, which would need enciphering if they were to be sent over the wires.
5096711
Where is all this vengeful fervor coming from? How is she being actively malicious? She was trying to have kids; I would guess she doesn't get many opportunities to get with a male, living deep in the Everfree and all.
5096469
5096406
Two things, first: She taught him a valuable lesson. Never trust a fey sprit. She had asked to be a wife and he declined. I bet she was a bit irate that he did so. She has magical charm yet he Scorned her polite advances. So she teased him a bit. If he was as loved as he claimed to be then his wives would have gone to Tarturs and bargained for his release, probably offering his first born foal or something. This is the way of the fey, and the price of an education.
Secondly: just as she is indispensable to the ecosystem of the Everfree she is not entirely irreplaceable, if Rising really cared about justice he could do her job, and then his offspring would then have to do the job. But how much of a pain in the ass would that be? For the rest of his life bound into the Everfree as part of its whole. Unable to leave when all that need be done is reconcile with her.
5096816 not vengeful vervor. she is simply a threat.
5096831
How is she a threat exactly? Let's hear it from your shortsighted mortal perspective. Let rip.
And no, this is not meant with sarcasm, but genuine curiousity.
5096817
Somebody understands what is going on and gets it.
The fey and the fae are fartknockers. And you can't trust them.
5096846 put simply any form of potentia interaction with her will likely end in death. she sorta sent a foal to hell for a petty reason afterall.
besides a entity that is more benign to mortals would be far more useful and important than this creature i would say. and would not be sending foals to hell for petty reasons.
besides i do not see any difference between her behavior and a mortal who has an evil personality. she abuses her power completely and that is just like a mortal. if she was a mortal, even one with importance, celestia would have her punished in some extent. so why would her being a fey make her immune to punishment if one prolonged and carefully planned? be like not executing a serial killer simply because he is a leader.
5096868
And Rising Star. I suppose he had no fault in this. He's innocent, right?
This is ALL Thelesignus' fault, correct? She just jumped out and kiss raped Rising Star from out of nowhere, right?
The fey can't take anything by force. They can only take what is given freely and willingly.
Maybe RS can be restored using the EoH?
5096888
EoH?
The ones currently locked into place on the tree?
5096831 so are Bucky, Luna, Celestia, Twilight, the fates, RainbowDash, Derpy, Dinky, Witching hour and her husband, Ripple, Lugus, Freezerburn, that creator god thing, Discord, Scorch, that main bad guy from the mirror universe all that guy's minions, *deep breath* Rising Star, Ursa Majors, Ursa Minors, Pina once she figures out that whole magic hooves of fire thing, pyrodryads, regular dryads, The refugees, Griffons, minotaurs, dragons, fey, fae, and everything else I haven't already mentioned.
Everyone can be a threat to someone somewhere sometime for some reason. The refugees are using up food and shelter and spreading a dangerous crippling disease with their presence.
Just because someone is a threat doesn't mean they or their race needs to be disposed of. A point I believe Kudzu was trying to make with his explanation of what happened to the Fey unicorns eight centuries prior. The major theme of the story is misunderstandings, don't be so quick to dole out judgement and punishments.
5096892
They're there already? Then how was Celestia planning on making Bucky ascend without them?
5096846 put simply any form of potential interaction with her will likely end in death. she sorta sent a foal to hell for a petty reason afterall.

5096914
She's been giving Zecora acorns all this time, which allow Zecora to cure disease and keep sick ponies from dying from magical ailments.
What about all of the lives she's saved?
Do they count for nothing?
She isn't good nor is she evil. She simply is.
5096886 .... sorry for some reason i went to edit my comment a bit and it became an exacty copy of the original one...... wtf?
5096907
He could ascend on his own by simply channeling into the ley line and allowing it happen.
Or she could haul him off into the astral plane and give him a working over. You don't need the Elements of Harmony.
5096898 it is not their potential to harm but their willingness. the creature is a sociopath, lesat by mortal standards, and a threat to anyone who comes near. and she will intentionally draw them near too.
5096933
So an immortal creature is to be judged by your mortal standards.
Wow... I am going to need time to think about how to respond to that. Excuse me for a moment.
5096933
Zecora doesn't seem threatened.
5096933
Bucky is pretty willing to cause harm if it's not a pony. Luna doesn't strike me as someone to hold back when her ponies are threatened either, remember that whole Blackcloak organization? They we're some pretty harmful ponies. Lot of willful death and destruction from that group, and they made the world better place.
5096923 which makes no sense to me. she sends a foal to hell for petty reasons yet gives acorns to help zecora. the behavior is contradictory and purely so.
then again i always called bullshit of blue and orange reasoning. i always found it an excuse for writing inconsistent behavior rather than an actual trait.
5096914
The problem ponies need to realize is SHE IS FIRE. Any one should realize right away NEVER PLAY WITH FIRE or you will be burned. Its like life lesson number 5 when a toddler is finally able to reach the stove. If she were not a 'sapient' burning tree and it offered someone power, the first thing anyone should ask first and foremost is can I trust this? If the answer the come to is yes then according to the laws of natural selection they should die. This will repeat until people realize that ITS THE EVERFREE never trust anything in the EVERFREE.
5096945 and that eventually drew someone she could manipulate into kissing her acorn and, basically, get sent to hell, now didn't it? she used zecora.
that or she is scared of someone who moved into the everfree like it was nothing. one or the other.
