the moment a filly understands the world around her
You, you...MONSTER !!!! I demand that you bring back the good ´ol times of quiet and peacefull body parts being torned out, of burnt scars and flesh, of blood and evisceration !!! No more this social and emotional violence !!!!
Hmmmm... In more gender balanced functions this was kind of the opposite of the male prospective. It was always a few more guys than girls whenever the school dances came around. But that wasn't enough, no even thought the girls had the pick of guys every dance there was three or four herds of girls. They would group up and hang out together. Do you know how intimidating it is to breach the wall of girls to ask one to dance.
Only a few time was there a girl nice enough I felt safe approaching their group. They even let me into their herd danceing. But the pressure is always the same, the key is to change your outlook.
Every time I went to a school dance expecting to find love I was disappointed. But that dance I got to dance with the girls I realized that if all your expecting is to have fun the it doesn't matter if you have that special person or not.
6069537 we do need some violence, where are the days of Buckys going to his crazy mode
6069557
He just killed somepony, what are you talking about?
That moment when a child's mental capacity far outstrips their physical age.
6069565
There, now it is correct.
6069587
Depends on the child, really.
I was in my single digit ages when I read Crime and Punishment for the first time. I read it and I took something profound away from it, an understanding about myself. It was about the same time that I also read the book Dominic, by William Steig, and The Phantom Tollbooth, by Norton Juster.
But it was from Crime and Punishment that I began to put down my roots as something of an anarchist, and I developed a lifelong interest in philosophy that stemmed specifically from that book.
Not all kids are clueless or stupid. Reading Crime and Punishment resounded in my mind, awoke certain things, and even if I could not put those thoughts into words right away, the knowledge was there, planted like a seed, and it became something later.
For children of exceptional IQs, it can feel very much like having an adult mind in a child's body, and adults do not take you seriously when you go and ask very difficult questions, some of those questions sometimes far outstripping what the adult themselves are capable of comprehending.
Also, before the age of ten, I read The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, and two books that profoundly changed me as a human being. Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty Four, both by George Orwell. I identified with Winston a little too much. Nineteen Eighty Four became very much like my bible when I was a little kid.
Internalising something is different than being able to express something. Sometimes, we have the thoughts, but we lack the vocabulary to be able to express the conclusions we reach.
This was fun. Described what it felt like at everyone of my dances.
A valiant effort to beat the game dinky. After all, some games can only be won by not playing at all. But there is one flaw in your logic dear. This game is life, everyone must play. But I know you have every bit of your father's unicorn cleverness in you. You will realize that if you can't win the game by the rules then you simply flip the table and make new rules.
Also, I think we can all agree that while sombra and star swirl where Great, the new kingit and librarian are their superior in every way. Dinky right now seems adamant to ignore the past and become the new star swirl. A lone shut-in, who spent all his days in a tower only to come out once a year to recklessly indulge in excess only to crawl back to his tower and repeat. That ain't healthy behavior, no matter what specie
I see that the genders are flipped in Equestria as to whom is blamed for their loneliness, current first world culture has a pretty strong attitude that if you are a male and do not have what you want it is your own fault for not being charming or successful or physically desirable enough.
We make a big deal about girls' insecurity over their bodies, but we also go out of our way to tell them it's an unreasonable, unhealthy feeling. And while it's clear some people would go to a boy and tell him that, it feels significantly rarer. Like, people know it's a "problem" but never really go out of their way for it.
Of course, it's a hotly debated issue as to whether it's instinctual for society to treat low ranking males as failures or whether that's part of the specific culture.

The alicorn wasn't a golem though. He was a living pony. He may have been more akin to a puppet; we don't know the full extent of control the Night Stallion and the Element of Obedience had over him.
6069765 I'd argue that modern culture places pretty heavy blame on everyone if they're lonely, regardless of gender. "If you aren't happy, clearly you're doing it wrong" is a very common message. The manner in which the message is delivered and reinforced is different between men and women (for those who fall into such narrow categorizations; the treatment of those who do not is a whole other discussion that I'm not having here), but the core message is the same. Society has a very firm "blame the victim" mentality.
This is a relatively new development in our (modern western first world) society, only really becoming prominent in the media sphere during last 5 years or so. And while it is gaining momentum, it has yet to approach even a majority penetration, let alone universal belief. And it is really only prominent in N. American and western European countries, and Australia. First world nations like Japan and South Korea have very different attitudes.
I personally believe that much of this is the continued legacy of the social repression that peaked in the 1950s. "Men don't express feelings" is still a very commonly held belief. And since they can't express feelings, they can't talk about them. It's an unhealthy as hell attitude and is also slowly changing, but it's already fucked up 3 full generations, is still fucking up the current one and will probably screw over at least one more before it finally goes away.
I'm super interested to see what you've come across on this debate. Most of the sociological research I've read falls pretty firmly on the cultural side, but I'm by no means well read on the topic. I'd love to read some more.

Perhaps. I am acutely aware of the people who would call me a loser if I feel lonely (and people who, indeed, have done so in the past) and assign an unflattering stereotype to me as a result, but I am less aware when someone is saying the same thing to a distaff counterpart, which has always seemed, to me, less widespread than the male lonely loser archetypes, and often see outpourings of sympathy for a woman who has found herself in an unfavorable lonely position, rather than contempt.
But, if you can't tell, there are no statistics for this so I only have my own feelings to judge upon, like many issues of this like on all parts of the gender spectrum. So I could just be a bit more sensitive to my own problems, and not to other's problems, even though when I see others having a genuine problem I identify it, I don't notice it every time (or at very least don't remember it) because it doesn't apply to me.
On the opposite side of cultural sociology is evolutionary psychology. The idea is that in the myriad millenia before history was a thing, the psychology of men and women were being selected for what made them most likely to survive under those situations, and that broadly effects our preferences and instincts even now.
... Since it's super pertinent, that's what Dinky's delving into in the latest chapter, basically.
There are a lot of critics of evo-psych, both ideologically (that it encourages sexism because some of the conclusions are very much less than flattering), and intellectually (that they are making too many assumptions of human society when there was no historical record), and... of course those people who are ideologically motivated to disagree, and as a result try to dredge up intellectual reasons why their bias is justified. Not that it doesn't seem like some people on the side of evo-psych have the same problem.
This song was playing through my head throughout the entirety of this chapter:
This chapter goes to great lengths in explaining why there is so much same-sex relationships in this book.
Just not enough males to go around.
Zero gay stallions in this story. Anyone else catch that?
Gay griffons: Check
Gay mares: Check
Gay stallions: Would probably be hounded by lonely mares until they are convinced to at least be Freddy Mercury in bed.
Dinky doesn't seem to realize there is a solution right in front of her. It doesn't have to be monogamy, and the winds of change are already blowing.
Sentinel is taking both Diamond Tiara and Boadicea.
Larch is taking both Babs Seed and Pina.
Rumble will be there with Apple Bloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle.
Complete reversal for how it is with humans.
Though frankly I can understand why the nobility was pushing for a male-dominated society. If the mares are instinctively fairly dominant with males, and males are so rare, then you're not only the minority, you're also basically just a resource for them. Only way to climb out of that when biology dictates that the biologically submissive minority must remain in its position is to proclaim dominance.
Whereas humans have more or less equal numbers, and yet the more serious pressures in courtship and sex fall on the shoulders of males. We're expected to spend our entire life up until that point tailoring ourselves to meet some unspoken level of perfection and success to even be considered worthy of a one-night stand to scratch some female's itch, nevermind those of us looking for a committed relationship. Anyone who wasn't blessed by the random genetic lottery doesn't have a calculable shot at biology's most basic principle: Your life only has meaning if you pass on your genes. If you're predisposed to being against the current trend physically, or what it takes to be successful mentally, then chances are high you're going to live an empty and sad life that you try to fill up with anything else and tell yourself it makes you happy, while the ones who could have made living worthwhile for you are out chasing perfection.
The number of times I've had to help people through this realization is fucking depressing, almost as much for me as it was for them to bring it to me. Yet here in Equestria, they're female-dominated, yet supposedly the females are also the ones who bear the burdens socially? It's hard to wrap a mind around. They're in control yet somehow they're also the ones worse off? The answer is herding, but if mares are supposed to be a bit more dominant, then that leaves all the stallions having to support and provide physically and emotionally for six or seven mares, and not all stallions are as submissive as Bucky likes to be, harming their individuality and sense of self.
It's like their biology never even started to evolve to adapt to long-standing changes in genetic history due to tradition. They're basically still primitive horses who've just learned to talk.
So much yes.
6071027 Just look at how they are easily herded towards whatever direction Celestia wants them to go. She's the Alpha of the overall herd.
This thought process has come over me many a time during moments like this, just sitting back and taking notes on everyone around you.
This has made me realise that I might not be ready to grow up, get a job, go to college, move out, etc, ALL of this has hit me hard over a period of time in quick succession, almost like getting rocky'd, you get shocked then knocked the %&^$ out..... I'm going to bed now to cry myself to sleep and drown my sorrows in "dosed" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, goodnight world. And supreme ruler Kudzuhaiku.
Well, fuck you too, Dinky. No, keep focusing on how everything is wrong. Yeah, don't talk to anyone about it. Just keep up this bullshit until someone has to see you like that and work up to ask you what's wrong. Children annoy me, even intelligent children.
deep as a gay mans ass
6146680 what dinky is expieriencing is programed neurosis hopefully she will have the love and support needed to control if not cure it.
Damn.... Dinky is the one that will find the meaning of life, or maybe already has.
6071027 In terms of just being primitives who just learned how to talk, humans aren't exactly all that much better. Our bodies have not adapted to our more modern times. Despite food generally being more plentiful our bodies still don't understand it. We still have heavier cravings for saltier and fatty foods, and less about healthier foods like salad greens.
Steam is rolling out of my ears, my brain is fried.
