Stop him from being a public menace?
Freezerburn and Dinky need to trade tricks. I still remember Dinky's farting-hooves enchantment.
Oh wow... Bucky has just publicly declared his family as lower than earth ponies, who he sees as equals. Should have stated they were lower than diamond dogs.
They will not last long, and their deaths are going to be painful. Good.
so good... derpy is the mother of them all.
bucky went overdrive a bit, but that is a good punishment for his house
Well....That was unexpected.....
Unless i am mistaken, there will be a lot a asskickery in the future, when Bucky visits Tartarus to free Sombra and Platinum.
I feel..... almost bad, I has a sadistic grin across my face for the entirety of this chapter
Bucky is Luna's student. Luna is the opposite of her sister. They are Yin and Yang. Celestia is the teacher of Twilight. They are nearly complete. They must be if the healing can truly begin.
Darth Bucky. I'm just gonna leave that there.
Also, whatever typos Luna may have, I'm sure she'd say that they were correct at some point of her life, so shut up.
Goldflake. It's nice to finally know his name. I hope he can live out the rest of his years in relative peace.
I'm glad to see Keg Smasher whole again.
Weather or not they deserved it, Bucky did harm to a group of ponies in this chapter. It's like the presence of those ponies brings it out of him. And now Bucky definitely has something to answer for, since it looks like he just broke his own oath.
Also worth noting, that oath only mentions ponies, not other species.
Bucky mentioned him being Sombra's son in front of all those reporters. I wonder how many memories are going to be wiped in the next few hours? I certainly hope that doesn't happen, so that other ponies will be able to see how the son is trying to atone for the sins of the father. The line about earth ponies will earn him even more points with the populace. I wonder if they'll ever learn that he's going to be on trial shortly?
Finally, I did notice Luna publicly claiming Bucky as her "devoted student". So now both celestial Alicorns have their faithful/devoted students.
kudzuhaiku, I hope you'll be able to get some rest!
5000146
No physical pain or harm was done.
Fitting and deserving. I'm not sure how i'd have felt if there had been colts and fillies however...
I now regret the words I've stated against Celestia.
Holy horseapples!
I come back and theres 5 new chapters...
Teach me your writing ways sensei!
Eh. Bucky crossed a line here. His whole herd are kinda bullies to me now. All they do is threaten ponies now.
Thanks, Kudzy. I hope you get some sleep!!!!!!!!
5000213
Threaten the ponies who kidnapped foals, murdered their parents, raped and pillaged? For no reason but profit and sadistic fun? Whose side are you on? Pretty sure most of us are with Bucky and the Princesses against these horrible monsters.
5000149
With this, hopefully people will open their eyes some. Awaiting further chapters to see what will be done with Bucky's former connection to Avarice. It's quite clear it won't be anything too drastic, considering Celestia is pleased with his growth, filling in his destined position even if he does not yet wish to ascend.
Bucky, the robocop
Also its good to know who was the one who shouted with the paintings back then... i never thought it will be knew who was that, I actually thought it was forgotten ..... are we going to hear from him or this is his last apperance?
This chapter made me feel good... Somehow.
Look forward to seeing celestia with Bucky, they probably miss each other a lot, and hey, suddenly remember a certain book given by our princess!
To those thinking Bucky's a meany-mean pony, remember the isles, THEY are the reason that happened. I'd say Bucky did the best thing doable, with his oath.
No foals and magic, or indoor pluming!
As punishment for making thousands of lives miserable for a lot of years.
I'm gonna re-read this chapter...
5000197 Ok, now yor just putting words into my mouth and turning another anthill into a mountain
What I meant was, I dislike the apparent perfection characters like Celestia display. I'm not saying I hate Celestia herself!
She is a beacon of love, light, and hope for all the ponies of Equestria, and she is indeed a motherly figure. I just meant that all these ponies see is the good and they are blinded by it to Celestia's self, the pony she is when she doesn't have to be a princess, doesn't have to wear a crown, doesn't have to go over documents regarding the politics, welfares, and going-ons of her people
I'm saying there is more to Celestia than what these ponies see - She's not an all-powerful goddess who can do anything. In the end, she too is a pony with her own faults, her own problems, her own vulnerabilities, and she must wear a mask that isolates her from her subjects
This mask she wears is to hide what some would view as weaknesses in her, because her position as the Princess of the Sun does not allow for her to be displayed as weak or vulnerable. She must be unbending before any crisis and I would give my left ring-finger that she has stopped to think "is this the right choice" at some point or other in regards to a problem
And because this mask isolates her, she is not as close to her subjects as she wishes she could be.
Heavy is the head that wears the crown
Ahhh, Bucky is now Darth Bucky, dark lord of the ponies.
I mean, mechanical wheezing? Stump(s) for limbs? Uncontrollable rage? Heh. Totes pony Vader now. Just needs his sabre....
5000287
Thus Manehattan and Fillydelphia and Ponyville, etc. She has been trying to understand her ponies in a way she cannot normally, because she cannot truly be amongst them without them losing faith in her. But with the exception of Ponyville, each time the ponies give in to their baser, corrupt desires, and tear down the bright future she was guiding them towards. Watching them to know their minds and reactions, so that she could foster unity. Thus my annoyance at Twilight being upset with Celestia being more concerned about Ponyville than an evil old bag getting cunt-punted.
Which shows Twilight is not yet ready to rule or accept her final mantle. That she would be more concerned over the physical injury of one pony than the future of Equestria and the pony race in general showed her immaturity. That is the thinking of the common man, not a leader.
5000304 On that, we are agreed. Twilight might have earned her crown and is capable of organizing events and the like, but I don't think she's ready to rule her own kingdom just yet.
Partly because she too has this image of Celestia she just can't seem to let go
5000316
To think Celestia couldn't even count on someone who was practically her daughter to be able to see her without her mask on is an utter, depressive tragedy.
5000323
Bucky can be quite terrifying. Hope he doesn't slip off into the deep end and this turns too a Greek Tragedy.
His mercy on Goldflake made me sigh with relief.
I saw that Luna mentioned her devoted student. That makes Bucky a balance to Twilight, rather than Cadance, with a bit of a stretch. Proxy Celestia and Proxy Luna.

For some people, being unable to affect any change on their lives is a very real punishment. No, it's not as bad as having even less freedom eating gruel in a prison underneath Canterlot. No, it's not as bad as being ostracized and tormented, starving and living off of scraps, and yes, it is their decision to put themselves out there for punishment that lead to to this circumstance for them.
And also yes, it is possible for them to find whatever they are still allowed to do and do that. Make art, enjoy the village, socialize, enjoy each other's company. There is a lot of stuff they are not prevented from doing, and I'm sure they are trying to make the best of this situation either way.
But the reason we hate slavery isn't just because the slaves are usually treated like shit. Well, the reason I hate it, anyway. I'm sure there are people out there who look at that circumstance and say "NOW they're livin the dream! No responsibilities, no stress, taken care of by strangers. What a life!"
Besides, the princess specifically said that the trials were so that they were trying not to be hypocrites of justice. This was deliberately invoked for Bucky, even though it is not done so for the Sparkles, so... I guess there's that.
And I was only complaining that Celestia is off scott-free despite her own responsibility for the situation, not that this isn't the situation that needs to be done to break the power of the nobility. (Normally, although, in this type of situation the children would grow up bitter over their family's deposing, because they are raised by the probably-bitter nobles and probably in squalor in the majority of the cases. The different-from-reality lack of family values in Canterlotian nobles might change this. This is the reason Keg killed all of them: to prevent future generations bitterness.) Keg swooped in after taking power and having no chance to be at fault, then fixed it the only way he knew how. Celestia inadvertently allowed this to happen, then punished others who did the same thing but benefited from it in a more obvious physical way (Celestia did benefit from it, unintentionally: it took the responsibility for whatever power she allowed to the nobles after Luna's disappearance, allowing her focus on other things and her not having to worry about it), and the only punishment for her is "now I have to punish everyone else, my personal power, responsibility, and privilege is not affected."
What needs to be done to fix the situation and stabilize society? Sure. Punishment relating to the the amount of responsibility for a situation? No.
There is no u in generosity.
There's also no u in curiosity, either.
5000734 however there is a "u" in generous and curious, which I presume is the cause of the typos
5000682
No, it just means that Bucky needs to learn umbramancy and Luna is now his teacher so he doesn't accidentally do something terrible trying to learn dangerous stuff through self discovery.
5000675
Wow, a coinkidink. Guess who owned the nations largest pharmaceutical company before exile.
The number of people who apparently don't read the story before raging in the comments is growing. My patience wears thin. Kudzu, I'm taking break from explaining things people should have read for now. If you've any concern over setting them straight, that'll be up to you. Things get... messy, when my patience runs out. Keep up the good work.
The baseless accusations and tireless hate-machine of the small-minded grows ever more annoying.
5000795
People take what they want from a story. Stick around. Selectively answer comments.
I thought about a few well worded responses, but then I thought, you know, I could be putting that same energy into story writing. So, I am off writing the trial right now, and working out the draft.
Gonna be real tough to write this. I haven't slept much and I am in a ton of pain, but hey, it gives me something to work with.
5000802
Simple enough when it's one or two people on a single issue every other chapter. But when they all start shitting themselves and tripping over the same issue that's been reasoned out in the comments or answered in the story like inbred lemmings, it wears on my nerves.
I'll see about trying to slap some sense into them after I've slept. In my current state I'd drop ten thousand words of my aggravation on their collective heads and they still wouldn't achieve any sort of enlightenment because they're already selectively and poorly interpreting what they've seen and ignoring what they've read so they can have events play out to the dulcet tones of their short-slipped minds' blame and bias. Stoking fires where fire was never meant to be.
5000270 never dismiss a character as forgotten
Ooooh, I am intrigued.
Moderately surprised only one member of House Avarice even tried to go with the hug, but eh.
Really looking forward to the talk with Celestia. (For the record, I'm all for Celestia as a ruler, she's just in over her head and I can get that)
Also, still hoping that Bucky realizes that he doesn't have to be a monster if he ascends, I think the drama would be delightful in that situation.
5000774 I was hoping to see healing, (via ascension if needed), and a way to change fate. Oh well.
5000938
And they are trusting that he will hold back and prove stronger.
loyalty and and honesty should only have one and.
O...M...G...was what Bucky did within his rights as a prisoner? Not like it matters, I was mind blown and utterly stunned. Then I started laughing at house avarice till Berry made me stop DX. All in all an incredible chapter. Can't wait for Luna to give a reward to the stalwart Bucky.
5000213 did you even read what Derpy did?
I have been waiting for this chapter for sooo long now. And it didn't disappoint. Except that Bucky's mom didn't say anything.
I don't know why. But this sounds like something inner Krieg would say. Ya know, Mr. I'll kill us both if you harm the innocent.
Don't know why at all.... *cough cough cough*
It is VERY amusing to me that, after all the gore, the blood and the suffer, the trial is the part that is atracting the most heated comments in the sotry so far ! I don´t know how kudzu fells ´bout this, but i like this a lot. People maybe be wrong, or biased, but there are a lot of good comments. yes i ready almost all of then. Yes, i should have a hobyy...to distract me from my hobby...
Anyways...
I really though that Bucky would be Luna´s counterpart for Twilight, but it seems it will be a more short thing, more focused uppon control his new powers.
And it seems that Celestia has a great deal of confidence uppon Bucky, since Bucky pretty much directed the show from the start, without a word from Celestia. I imagine if Celestia knew, more or less, what Bucky would do, from the beginning, or if it was a leap of Faith from her, and if Bucky went too much over the edge, she would interfere and, unfortunally, have all the proof nedeed to condemm Bucky. Now she have proof that Bucky and his herd are to be trusted and, thus, can play the game in their favor. IMHO.
In a side note, Sparkler problem is bothering me A LOT. Is there any chance they´ll found that the medicine is tainted, and she´ll be able to booth have foals and control her problem ?
*Is a twitching mess while waiting for enough updates for the trial to pass*
5000103 If your going to kill someone, get a headsmans axe and get it over with. There is no need to draw this out and cause them to suffer. Kill them, bury them in unmarked graves, forget about them, and move on.
Surely there is at least ONE pony other then Goldflake who did not do bad, hell I wouldnt be surprised if the Guards broke down some poor fools door because he is related to house Avarice and didnt even know it. Its very easy to blame nobles for all the ills in the world, especially when you have nobles who are responsible for a great many.
5000291 Not to mention the pony version of dark force powers. Darth Bitters, presumably serving Luna.
5001635
I would let them suffer, for generations they basically strip mined the isles of there foals. so now they get to feel every generations pain and anguish by going somewhere to feel that pain and suffering ten fold.
And in some cultures to just kill someone for there crime is too easy, to make them suffer and feel the same pain as their victim(s) is better justice than just killing them.
So what would happen to any members of House Avarice that had the sense to go into hiding at the start instead of sticking with their family?
That'd be a pretty sucky life. They'd have to keep their identity carefully hidden for the rest of their life, lest they face severe punishment. Even if they were completely innocent, innocence certainly didn't save all of the exiled foals. Even if they managed to convince everyone that they seriously are innocent and in fact despise what House Avarice did, they're still stuck with slavery at best. At worst, they're going to be banished, as well as possibly cursed by their crazy relative (it's technically illegal, true, but he clearly has strong feelings about the matter). And that's if they don't just get murdered before being brought to trial.
Just staying hidden wouldn't be that bad normally, since there are already a ton of refugees and probable lost records. However, there's also the family curse, and the various forces that would seek to use them as a backup plan. Seeking help from others like Bucky did would be impossible, since the curse's symptoms would be an obvious clue to their identity. They'd have to suffer in silence while their body and mind are torn apart, while pretending to everyone else that everything is fine.
And all of that because their parents didn't hate them nearly enough to drive them to Ponyville instead of Bucky.
Same deal as before. Sooth means truth. You wanted 'soothe', to ease hurts.
So, uh...this story has rather rapidly climbed my list of favorites. It's awe inspiring, really. Keep it up!
How can you tell
hugging on the back and trying to sooth him
1. The extra spacing strikes back. I think I might have something akin to partial OCC for this...
2. Soothe.
Funny thing about number 2 though, was mentioned about 13 weeks ago by Night_Song it says. Got buried in the comments again?
