These words are lessons that Princess Celestia should know, bits of wisdom she practices in her rule of Equestria. How is it then, that when faced with a decision, she chooses the one that would inevitably bring the most pain? How is it that she couldn’t bear being recognized as the mother of her child? And why? Amber Lily is a mare currently doing nurse work around the country and caring for her best friends, Hot Head and Lucky Star. She was in an orphanage with them for the longest time, however one thing has always managed to barely slip under the radar; why she's there at all.
Isis Quartz, Amber's mother, was one of the Crystal Empire's many great wonders. An entertainer of hundreds, if not thousands, with her jousting matches, she was a high-tier citizen below only royalty itself.
Unfortunately, she is dead. She died of a disease not well known to the populace, leaving behind her husband and their daughter to figure out what to do next.

Silent Knight assumed his tale would be like that of his father's: join the Royal Guard and serve Equestria. He would be just another helmet and spear, part of the rank and file. And that was all he ever wanted.
However, when Captain Shining Armor asked for volunteers to form a House Guard for the recently returned Princess Luna, it was Silent's hooves that stepped forwards to set his new life in motion.

Ten years ago, I joined the gleaming order of the imperial guards under Guard Captain Shining Armour. I'm a unicorn who attended and graduated Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. My teachers call me lazy and said I never truly tried to do anything. It's not my fault I sometimes find Magic difficult. It just happens!
But something's happened, and I'm not sure I'll ever be the same after this.
(I don't mind if you guys don't like this fic, as is standard, but please, if you downthumb it, tell me what it is you dislike about it so maybe I won't stuff up in future fiction. It'd be greatly appreciated)
